How can I change "+ New Item" in a custom list
I have several custom lists and in some cases being able to change the text above the list " + new item" to a different text to make it more logical for users is needed. Currently I need to change it to "Create New Access Request". I have read a lot of blogs and posts here, but they all have one problem, they assume the person asking the question has years of programming in SharePoint. I have tried using Content Editors and SharePoint Designer but in each case it seems I am missing something that I know has to be experience knowledge. Does anyone have a process that they can share, that is step by step?
Thanks. Newbie Joel

One way you can achieve is by injecting the script on the page.
Follow the article below for Step by Step instructions. Since you are using SharePoint 2013, scroll all the way down on the page and you will see snippet for SharePoint 2013.
http://www.sharepointdiary.com/2013/02/change-add-new-item-link-text.html
Also use Script Editor web Part instead of Content Editor web part. Steps to add Script Editor web part remains the same as adding Content Editor. i.e. Edit Page --> Click Add a Web Part link on the page --> This will open add web part section in the Ribbon. --> Scroll down on the categories until you see Media and Content --> Click on it --> Select Script Editor Web Part --> Click ADD button at the bottom right corner.

Amit,
Thanks. I figured out the Script Editor vs Content Editor, but the code was still giving me issues. One things was, I could see "+new item" appear and then be replaced with "Create New Access Request". I found another piece of code that seems to work cleaner, though being a novice, not sure if it is as efficient. Also, for anyone trying this after me, you do have to add the Script Editor snippet to each view you want to change.
SharePoint 2013 Script Editor Snippet:
<script type="text/javascript">
$(document).ready(function() {
$("#idHomePageNewItem").text('Create New Access Request');
});
</script>

VB.net does not add all the fields from ServiceNow webservice
I am able to add webservice from ServiceNow (ticketing tool).
But it wont add all the fields that are provided by ServiceNow, as other SOAP tools (SOAPUI).
VB.net wont allow me to pass the 'displayvalue=all' to the SOAP endpoint so that all the fields are accessible/displayed.
I want VB.net to pass https://cibitsm.service-now.com/incident_sla.do?SOAP&displayvalue=all to the webservice,
but it only passes: https://cibitsm.service-now.com/incident_sla.do?SOAP
I do not know where to change these in Webrefernce code generated by

Hi RafiQ_MD,
Welcome to the MSDN forum.
Since your issue is about the development of the ServiceNow tool, and our forum is to discuss Visual Studio WPF/SL Designer, Visual Studio Guidance Automation Toolkit, Developer Documentation and Help System, and Visual Studio Editor, it is better to redirect to the ServiceNow Community forum for dedicated information, you will get a more professional support from there, thank you for your understanding.
I found a ServiceNow product documentation: Direct Web Services and may be you can have a look at, see if it is helpful or not.

Windows 10 - Wallpaper keeps disapearing and moving desktop icons, after enabling folder redirection
We just started testing the folder redirection group policy on windows 10 computers currently joined to windows domain. At first, everything was nice and happy valley.
But, just a day after, we started to receive complaints from the users using the testing computers that their wallpapers were disappearing, and the desktop icons were moving from their prefer location to another location on the desktop.
Nothing on the network has changed, and the windows 10 have not received any new updates of any kind, drivers or security updates, etc.
Can anyone share if there is a fix or is this something that Microsoft has not fixed? Looking at older forums, it seems folder redirection and user loosing personalize settings has been an issue for a very long time.
Any help or suggestion is always gladly appreciated.
Thanks

Unless you have auditing enabled, you can only check the lastLogon attribute of the user. This attribute is not replicated. A different value for the user is saved on every DC. You must query all DCs in the domain and keep track of the largest (latest) value. But this will also reveal which DC last authenticated the user, which will indicate the site. The bigger problem is that the value will be overwritten the next time the DC authenticates the user. Really the best hope is that the intruder authenticated on a different DC than the one normally used by the user, so the value is not overwritten. Or you need to query soon after the intrusion.
Perhaps auditing is the best option, but this won't help for past intrusions that happened before you configured to audit logons.
Edit: I would link scripts for this, but all the ones I know of output the last logon for all users. You need the last logon for a specific user on each DC, to see if any look suspect.

cpu and duration for very long query commands
Entity Framework (EF) sometimes issues very long SQL commands, we currently have two that are over 300k bytes long.
It's amazing that these can execute as quickly as they do, but I'm curious whether the cpu and duration times reported on profiler include the time to receive and parse the command.
Even if they are parameterized, 300k+ commands can take a while to check, these are taking about 100 milliseconds to 300 milliseconds on my (fairly fast) workstation. They are only doing a few hundred logical reads and probably no physical reads - unless from tempdb, I have not actually extracted and rerun the commands to see. They return very little actual data.
Thanks,
Josh

Hello Josh,
I'm about to go to bed and I do not know a documentation about this by heart. I just wanted to add what I know about this and EF.
From my experience, I can say that the compilation time is included into the calculation, but mind you, it's done only once if a query / SP is cached.
Once I was on a client site, recently and they were using EF. Some queries were really really long and it was taking about an hour to complete for a "route planning" work. We worked on the query with the developers and I realized that most of the query was rubbish, there were lots of unnecessary UNIONs. We took them out, with a lot of unnecessary columns and then we turn the query into an SP. Then it was taking much much less. Especially for complicated queries, I think, EF sucks. Those queries must be written manually, basic ones are generally alright.

Hi Ekrem,
I've seen and "mitigated" some long EF queries before, but only ones that were taking many seconds, this is the first time I've looked at huge queries that "only" were wasting a few tenths of a second.
Actually I had another one here the other day, taking 12 seconds of cpu (4 seconds duration with parallel plan), and a rewrite to an SP took it down to 12 *milliseconds*. Wouldn't surprise me if I could reduce these new huge ones too - heck, could probably put in a pretest that would eliminate them entirely most of the time.
Our developers "like" their EF but we also have a mission to scale, so we're looking for these and cleaning them up as we find them.
Lots of unnecessary unions, and of course tons of unnecessary aliasing as well, if they cleaned up just the aliasing they could probably reduce the average lengths by 2/3 - not to mention making them much more human-readable.
Thanks,
Josh

Ekrem is correct - the duration is the parse, compile and execute time that is reported in profiler.
Can we see an example of the mangled EF query?

I suppose so, we haven't even put the replacement in yet, we're still generating them. I'll try to post one someplace I can link to on Tuesday, need a little time to sanitize the table and field names.
I think you can find similar examples on virtually any medium to large scale C#/EF application, it's a matter of understanding what the actual semantics are and what the real work being done is, then typically it's easy to write a clean equivalent. EF statements are mostly amazingly efficient, especially given their verbosity, but, well, some just aren't. Keeps database architects and tuners busy.

Yes, that's how you typically "re-write" them. And note that net/net EF is still a big win, as it allows developers to write the application without knowing TSQL, even if a SQL expert has to re-write some of the queries later.
And EF does a really good job of creating SQL tables to match your entity model. Very few devs or DBAs are actually good at SQL data modeling. So replacing SQL Server data modeling with C# entity modeling makes a lot of sense for many teams.
Dapper is good too, but it's different. It's just a modern data access helper library, rather than an ORM. You still have to write your own SQL queries.

I've never yet seen it used that way except to allow it to create little state tables and such, but I mostly work large projects with multiple "full stack" developers.
First I've heard of "Dapper".
I have seen EF tuned up, I located some obnoxious thing EF was doing (I can't even recall the specifics), and one of the EF experts went in and diddled it and made it all good. I think the boss in my current situation wants to try some of that before using my SP. They're just not fond of SPs here. I have had to replace some EF because we needed some locking hints to avoid deadlocks, but instead of (trivial) SPs we're using explicit SQL sent from the app.

I agree on bad aliasing - did you try proposing a shorter alias in EF? If you do, can you post a link, so I can vote?
We're also using EF here - and for updating multiple tables I prefer to use stored procedures rather than EF. For some queries involving joins I also prefer direct queries or views instead of LINQ to EF.

Question
I have a server 2008 R2 which is also a 2010 exchange server and a dns, ad. I have created a new dc 2012 R2 and transferred all roles, have not raised the forest level, but the new dc is the DHCP server as well and the primary DNS.
Exchange will be migrated to a 2016 exchange server sitting in its own VM. The client wants to keep the same IP address of the 2008R2 DC which will be decommissioned. I see underling issues with keeping the IP around, even though the AD meta data is cleaned out, there is still risk of that IP laying around somewhere in AD.
Any thoughts?

Searching by DisplayName filed with ContainsSubstring filter does not work
Hi,
I am using Office365 and EWS for searching contacts in the WellKnownFolderName.Contacts folder (Microsoft.Exchange.WebServices.Data.Folder.FindItems(SearchFilter searchFilter, ItemView view)).
I am trying to find and to filter contacts with SearchFilter.ContainsSubstring filter by display name (ContactSchema.DisplayName) field,
but somehow it use ContainmentMode.PrefixOnWords filter for DisplayName.
I have no this problem with ContactSchema.GivenName, ContactSchema.MiddleName, ContactSchema.Surname fileds.
The "ContainsSubstring" filters works fine for these fields, but not for DisplayName.
If I try to search by all fields together ContactSchema.GivenName, ContactSchema.MiddleName, ContactSchema.Surname and ContactSchema.DisplayName with SearchFilter.ContainsSubstring filter,
then SearchFilter.ContainsSubstring are replaced with ContainmentMode.PrefixOnWords for all fields!
so, there are questions I have
1. Why the ContainsSubstring filter (with ContainmentMode.Substring) does not work for DisplayName?
2. Why ContainsSubstring does not work for any field when ContainsSubstring filter are presented for DisplayName?
Thanks
Since upgrade to Windows 8, cannot save .rdp files under the Remote Desktop Connection application on the Desktop
Since I upgraded to Windows 8, I am no longer able to save individual Remote Desktop Connection files as .rdp files. I am talking about the traditional Remote Desktop Connection application on the Desktop that was in previous Windows versions, not the Remote Desktop App from the Windows 8 store.
When I try to click on the Save button I get "An error occurred while saving to file"
When I try to click on the Save As button I get "Unable to open connection file" with the file address being where I tried to save it with the file name at the end.
Also when I upgraded to Windows 8, my .rdp files disappeared from my Documents folder.
I need to create different .rdp files for different programs that my employees get into on my server. Now I have to hand type all the info each time into the Programs tap on the Remote Desktop Connection window, because I can't save to an .rdp file.
I like the Remote Desktop App from the Windows store but it won't let me designate specific programs to use using standard dos notation (ie c:\program files\ etc..). It just goes to my server desktop.
I want to promote Windows 8 to my employees but I need either .rdp files for the traditional Remote Desktop Connection or the ability to open specific programs using dos notation in the Windows Store Remote Desktop App.
