How to get prompt on exit re: emptying deleted items, in Outlook 2016?
Prior to my recent upgrade to Office 2016, using Outlook 2013, I could delete Outlook items all day and have them stay in the Deleted Items folder -- being ASKED, when I exited the program, if I now wanted to DELETE them "permanently." (We're on Office365.)
Now that I'm on Outlook 2016, I cannot find how to enable that warning/prompt. It looks like they either get deleted when I exit (Empty Deleted Items on exit option), or never.
How can I be prompted on exit, in Outlook 2016?
Em
Reply:
That setting is under Outlook Options > Advanced > Other, Prompt for confirmation before permanently deleting items.

flat file assembler issue after migration
hi All
we are migrating Biztalk 2009 to 2013 R2. Everything has worked properly except pipeline with flat file assembler. Haven't made any change to schema or pipeline we just migrated and after migration we are getting different result in 2009 and 2013. not sure what is wrong i tried removing flat file assembler and reinserted to pipeline and deployed the application but still same result.
here is result from2009

Set the default location in Windows 10's Weather App for all users
I want to set the default location for all users in the Weather App on Windows 10 Ent v1607.
Here what I've done:
Using Procmon, I discovered the settings are stored in an App Hive. Searching for RegLoadAppKey, I discovered the hive is saved here:
- C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.BingWeather_8wekyb3d8bbwe\Settings\Setting.dat
To configure the default location for all new accounts:
- Logon to a new profile, then log off
- Copy folder tree from: C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.BingWeather_8wekyb3d8bbwe to a temporary folder (it will be a collection of mostly empty folders with a couple files)
- Logon, run Weather app, configure settings, close app, and log off
- Copy the contents of the Settings folder to the Settings temporary folder from step 2, overwriting the two files already there.
- Copy the temporary folder to: C:\Users\Default\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.BingWeather_8wekyb3d8bbwe
If the entire tree is not copied, Windows will provision the app with the defaults.
When a new user logs on and runs the app, they are not prompted for a default location and it displays the weather for the configured location. Good!
Problem:
The live tile will not use the configured location until the app is run once. So, "Washington DC" is displayed until the user clicks the tile. The user can immediately close the Weather App, and the tile will display the correct location. Weird.
I want the live tile to use a specified location before the user runs the app. Any ideas?
Reply:
Dear Tony,
The method you have done is correct, by the way, we can configure location for all users, that's good.
But, one thing we should know, Weather app belongs to Store app, which is based on user account, only when we click it, it means that we register this app by current account, if we have not start it, it just stays in the original state.
As you see, until we open it once then this app will be activated and show the configured weather information, it's a normal phenomenon, we can't change this point.
Thanks for your discovery and sharing, I really appreciate.
Best regards

Adding network printers
I am stumped here. I have a .bat file that I run in my company that helps some of our employees add network printers. I am continuing to get the error code 87 each time I run it. Thus, it is not working. I am running this ona windows 10 machine. However, if I run this on a windows 7 machine it runs just fine. Can someone help me figure this one out?

Network Drive mapping script
Basically I am trying to disconnect shares from old DC1 server and map shares on a new DC2 server (having the same permissions and same share names)
BAT script runs a PS script (to disconnect drives) and then executes map commands.
BAT script
@echo off
#runs a PS script
PowerShell.exe -ExecutionPolicy Bypass -Command "& '%~dpn0.ps1'"
#maps drives
net use * \\dc2\production /P:Yes
net use * \\dc2\finance /P:Yes
PS script
#Delete drives
Import-Module activedirectory
$mapped = Get-WmiObject Win32_MappedLogicalDisk | Select DeviceId, ProviderName
foreach ($item in $mapped) {
if ($item.ProviderName -eq '\\DC1\production') {net use $item.DeviceId /del}
}
$mapped = Get-WmiObject Win32_MappedLogicalDisk | Select DeviceId, ProviderName
foreach ($item in $mapped) {
if ($item.ProviderName -eq '\\DC1\finance') {net use $item.DeviceId /del}
}
Everything works well. But I am facing an issue that all of the shared drives are still mapped on everyone's PC regardless if they have access to the share or not(they remain mapped but you are unable to access the share obviously). So I was wondering is there a way that PS or BAT script could check if the share exists on laptop and if it does it would map a share and if it does not it would just skip mapping that particular share?

Dear All,
i am facing issue while running Gpupdate /force in client machine as well as in DC "The processing of Group Policy failed. Windows could not apply the registry-based policy settings for the Group Policy object" also i am trying to create a policy to the specific OU (Which contains computers alone) for refresh policy interval. You can check the policy with the GUID {6D53A98C-0115-4FF3-8E7F-AA0D65B1391D} by running the powershell command get-gpo -guid 6D53A98C-0115-4FF3-8E7F-AA0D65B1391D

Hi Sokneang,
Have you tested connectivity? Two tools available to you: remote connectivity analyser and connectivity analyser tool
The remote connectivity analyser is an online tool that you run from the Office 365 portal. The connectivity analyser tool is downloaded and run on your infrastructure. The former is a complete analysis of ports that are needed across the whole of Office 365, licenses, credentials and even updates. The latter will allow you to test connectivity to services required for Mobility client to function on mobile devices.
Here's some links that may help:

Groups in Skype for Business using Powershell
We have just implemented Skype for Business and i'm looking for a way i can add a groups into users contact lists through Powershell.
I cant see much online to do with SFB and im not too keen on using 3rd party tools, powershell would be my first choice.
For example, if i had "User 1" and they were part of an AD group called "Support" i would like it so when they login for the first time, they see the "Support" group with all the users in it.
Is that possible?
Reply:
I don't see how Skype can do this. You need to add the group to the users contact list. If you want to list the users in the group then make a global contact list from the group.
First spend some time learning how Exchange online works with Skype and how to provision users for mail. You will find that mail contacts are part of Skype if set up correctly.
Here is what is available for PowerShell/Skype: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn362831(v=ocs.15).aspx

Windows 7/XP users need to install the printer driver frequently from Windows Server 2003 32 bit operating system
Hi,
I have many Windows 7 and Windows XP users that needs to install the printer driver when they want to print from a network printer from Windows Server 2003 SP2 server. This happens frequently althought the print queue is established before. The error is as follows.
Error Message: "Do you trust this printer? Windows needs to download and install a software driver from the \\servername computer to print to PRINTERNAME. Proceed only if you trust the \\servername computer and the network, and then restart the print job."
Please let me know how to fix this issue.
Thank you,
Nikki.

If the server is 2003 cluster, I'd expect this. I've seen this issue with some older Xerox drivers that update a config file on the server that the client spooler downloads from the server.
You can change the Point and Print restrictions policies so the client will just copy the driver without the prompt or you can use package aware drivers from the print vendor so you will not be prompted on Windows 7.

We do not have a cluster. This happens on HP, RICOH, CANON printers. Do you think changing the Point and Print restrictions policies will work for us?

Reply:
Yes. If you have more than 50 clients be sure to set this up in a common GPO that all machines read.
If you do not have a Server 2008 R2 machine to edit the GPO, you will need the AD tools for Windows 7 so you can see the computer policy to edit.
Computer / Administrative Templates / Printers / Point and Print Restrictions for Vista and Windows 7
User / Administrative Templates / Control Panel / Printers / Point and Print Restrictions for XP
Default configuration is not configured so I would expect the XP machines not to display a prompt unless the print server is in a different forest than the client machines.
This policy setting controls the client Point and Print behavior, including the security prompts for Windows Vista computers. The policy setting applies only to non-Print Administrator clients, and only to computers that are members of a domain.
When the policy setting is enabled:
-Windows XP and later clients will only download print driver components from a list of explicitly named servers. If a compatible print driver is available on the client, a printer connection will be made. If a compatible print driver is not available on the client, no connection will be made.
-You can configure Windows Vista clients so that security warnings and elevated command prompts do not appear when users Point and Print, or when printer connection drivers need to be updated.
When the policy setting is not configured:
-Windows Vista client computers can point and print to any server.
-Windows Vista computers will show a warning and an elevated command prompt when users create a printer connection to any server using Point and Print.
-Windows Vista computers will show a warning and an elevated command prompt when an existing printer connection driver needs to be updated.
-Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP client computers can create a printer connection to any server in their forest using Point and Print.
When the policy setting is disabled:
-Windows Vista client computers can create a printer connection to any server using Point and Print.
-Windows Vista computers will not show a warning or an elevated command prompt when users create a printer connection to any server using Point and Print.
-Windows Vista computers will not show a warning or an elevated command prompt when an existing printer connection driver needs to be updated.
-Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP client computers can create a printer connection to any server using Point and Print.
-The "Users can only point and print to computers in their forest" setting applies only to Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP SP1 (and later service packs).

Hi Alan,
I have a Windows Server 2003 SP2 server with 32 bit operating system (No cluster) and when Windows 7/XP 32 bit users print to this server, the users get the following error.
Error Message: "Do you trust this printer? Windows needs to download and install a software driver from the \\servername computer to print to PRINTERNAME. Proceed only if you trust the \\servername computer and the network, and then restart the print job."
This happens even if the print queue is established already and it happens only to 32 bit operating systems clients only(Windows 7/XP).

I noticed that there are two drivers on the server for the same printer, this is a RICOH printer, and one printer driver is from RICOH and the other driver is a universal driver. Could this be an issue as it asks to install the driver although it is already installed?

Hi Nikki03,
I am having a similar issue. I have a Win 2008 x64 print server. I installed mostly HP printers on it but do have a few Ricoh printers. All my HP devices print fine from WinXP and Win 7 x64 computers. However I run into a similar problem with the Ricoh devices. I am able to add the Ricoh driver to the print server no problem, but when I try to add the printer to a computer as a NON admin, I get the prompt to install driver. However, the driver install fails as my users are not admin. We can get around this easy by logging into the computer as an admin, installing the printer, and then having the user log back in and install the printer. I am curious as to why the Ricoh's prompt for the driver install and all our HP printers do not.
I am wondering if the Ricoh driver is trying to install more than DLLs? That is the only thing I can think of. On a side note, I had tried almost all print drivers Ricoh offers, and all of them have this behavior.

All machines are fully patched, and the File and print is 2003 server - fully patched.
First print job of the day we get
'Error Message: "Do you trust this printer? Windows needs to download and install a software driver from the\\servername computer to print to PRINTERNAME. Proceed only if you trust the\\servername computer and the network, and then restart the print job."
Even with the tick 'dont show this again', it does.
Ideas?

Hi,
We're just going through a print driver migration program and came across this issue with our Windows 7 users. We're running Server 3003 SP2 and when a 'clean' build, i.e. with the print driver having not already been installed previously, the "Do you trust this printer" dialogue box appeared, and the install failed due to insufficient privialiges.
The reason we were so confused is because we have a couple of Server 2008 print servers set up as we're also going to be doing a Print Server upgrade early next year. It seems that teh issue doesn't exist when pulling drivers from a Server 2008 box, and once the client machine has done that it will then also happily pull drivers, without receiving the "Do you trust this printer" prompt, from a Server 2003 box because the drivers are already on the machine.
We resolved the issue by updating the GPO as per the update by Alan Morris. We updated the default domain computer policy to have the "Point and Print Restrictions" set to "Enabled" with the option "Users can only Point and Print to machines in their forest" checked. We also changed both the Security promt options to "Do not show warning or elevation prompt" but to be honest, we tested with these options left blank, as well as changing them to prompt the warnings but the behaviour was exactly the same for all = the standard user saw no prompts, and the driver installed fine as it had previously in XP (which is exactly what we wanted).
One 'interesting' point was that the user based policy setting has no effect what-so-ever even though it appears to be identical to the comuter policy. The subtle difference is that the computer policy states "Supported on: At least Windows Vista" and the user policy states "Supported on: Supported Windows XP SP1 through Windows Server 2008 RTM".
I would advise that Alan's reply above is marked as the correct answer.
HTH,
Tim.

You get this error during Logon or when adding the printer connections?
The driver will not be installed on the Windows 7 clients without user interaction if you have not configured the Computer Point and Print restrictions policy.
If you get this error when searching in the domain for printers, make sure the clients can actually reach the print server. Start / Run / \\printservername
This will open an explorer window displaying the list of shares on the machine.
If the clients cannot open the remote printserver, check client DNS settings.

Hi,
I would like to refresh problem.
I have WinXP installed with shared printers (for some reasons I cannot setup 2003/2008 server) and I would like to add preinstalled drivers for Win7 x64. I understand all issues with adding drivers for different OSes, but I stuck with adding Win7 (does not matter x86 or x64) driver for automatic installation of drivers for Win7. There is no Intel envronment Windows 7 version on "Additional drivers" dialog :(
Is it possible somehow to add it?
Right now users have to use "connect..." option for installing printers on Win7 and then when they are informed that there is not preinstalled drivers on server they have to use "Use disk" option for pointing drivers and I would like to avoid this. It would be perfect if drivers would be installed automatically as they are installed on WinXP OSes.

I am also experiencing similar issue's, the Printer is installed on the machines, they have Local Admin rights. The Print Server is 2008R2, the machines are Windows 7, the initial install goes through fine.
The strange thing is, every couple of days the printer will pop up asking you to update the driver, yet nothing has changed. The drivers can then be OK for a couple of days before seeing this again.
You get an "Do you trust this printer" message, you click install and it installs fine. The question is, how do i stop the prompt appearing every couple of days? This is effecting around 200 users. Thanks,

Hi Bruce and everybody.
I faced a similar problem with Canon printers on a Windows Server 2012 R2 x64 Print Server. I found a tip on this link and it solved my problem: https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/030ee94a-047d-460a-bc39-52351a199364/kb3163912-breaks-point-and-print-restrictions-gpo-settings?forum=winserverGP
Basically, I followed this: "Edit the register on your print server(s). If you change the value of the key PrinterDriverAttributes under HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Enviroments\Windowsx64\Drivers\...\Driver name\ and restart the print server, you are able to make Windows treat the driver as packaged, and it will install unattended with gpo. The hex number has to be odd. To keep the original settings for the printer driver and only make it Pakage aware you shold add 1 to the original value of PrinterDriverAttributes. In my print enviroment the original attribute had the value 4, so I changed it to 5 and that made it Pakage aware. Different versions of the driver (and different vendors) might need other values.
Restart server ."
I hope you find a solution (sorry for my english).

Agree with Alan, most probably hotfix KB3170455 installed on W7 client machines prevents installing unsigned print drivers, or print drivers that are not package aware.
To check this, run wmic qfe get hotfixid | find "KB3170455"
Best solution: update your drivers to signed and package aware versions
Workaround : do registry trick described by Mauro Destazio above.

Hi rebmaamberrebmaamber,
Is it related to the WCF or Web app?
Could you find this assembly in your solution explorer window->Reference folder?
Maybe you could remove and re-add it again, and then set the copy local=true, debug it.
Not very sure that which VS version you use, but please also make sure that it was not related to the .NET Framework version.
Since you get this issue during you run this app, it would be not the VS debugger issue, if above suggestions still have no help, just tell me the real project type, I will help you find a more appropriate developing forum.

You will probably have to change the Fn feature in the BIOS.
To do this, when you switch on look for a Setup message indicating which key to start tapping - F2 and Del are commonly used.

To disable, or enable, the function key (fn) in the BIOS, do the following steps.
- Shutdown your computer
- Press the power button to turn on the computer.
- Press the f10 key to open the BIOS setup window.
- Press the right-arrow or left-arrow keys to navigate to the System Configuration option.
- Press the up-arrow or down-arrow keys to navigate to the Action Keys Mode option, and then press the enter key to display the Enable / Disable menu. (Disable to reverse the fn key function).
- Select the desired mode:
- Disabled: Requires pressing and holding the function key (fn) while pressing one of the f1 through f12 keys to use the action indicated on the action key.
For example, on some computer models, if the Action Keys Mode is Disabled, pressing the f11 key will minimize and maximize a web browser if open. Alternatively, pressing and holding the fn + f11 keys will mute the sound.
The action keys may vary depending on the model of notebook.
- Enabled: Requires pressing only one of the f1 through f12 keys to use the action as indicated on the action key.
For example, on some computer models, if the Action Keys Mode is Enabled, pressing f11 will mute the sound as indicated on the action key. Alternatively, pressing and holding fn + f11 will minimize and maximize a web browser if open.
The action keys may vary depending on the model of notebook.
- Press the f10 key to save the selection and restart the computer.
The function key (fn) option can be reset at any time.

If the data type is integer, you can use IN:
WHERE IntColumn IN(999,9999,99999,999999,9999999,99999999,999999999)
For varchar:
WHERE VarcharColumn NOT LIKE '%[^9]%'
You could also use the NOT LIKE method with an int type along with CAST:
WHERE CAST(IntColumn AS varchar(9)) NOT LIKE '%[^9]%'

Writing a domain specific programming lanuage for project management, looking for inspiration
Hello everyone.
I'm finishing my bachelor studies in Computer Science and as a part of my thesis I will be writing a domain-specific programming language, designed specifically for project management in Microsoft Project. In the final version you would have a command line (or an editor in which you would write and run the code, not sure about that one yet) inside Project in which, after writing some code or loading a script file with more code than one line, you could add or manipulate tasks in your current project or do some other stuff. The problem is that I didn't have too much experience with Project, so I don't really know what should be the "other stuff".
I think majority of the community here is much more experienced with Project than I am, so I'm looking for inspiration. What are some things in Project that could be automated or easier to do by writing some code instead of using dialog windows? I know there is a Macro Editor in which you use Visual Basic, but I want my language to be way simpler and cleaner than VB (though obviously the whole Project plugin won't be as powerful as Macro Editor, at least not right away ;)).
I would really appreciate your input.

If you can come up with a better mouse trap with leveling and managing resource loads, that could be an addin to project would be great

Hi Pawel,
My 2 cents: Conditional formatting for MS Project.
Currently, you can add custom fields to indicate certain conditions, but this IMO leads to clutering. Conditional formating on the task column, or start/finish colums would be a great addition.
Another useful functionality, which now requires a lot of scrolling is checking whether a tasks predecessors are completed. If this "status" could be easily obtained with a command line, that would be a great time saver.
I've coded something like this in vba; it sets a flag if all predecessors are finished and if not, it returns the rownumber of the unfinished predecessor:
Sub PredecessorCheck() Dim ReadyToGo As Boolean Dim tsk As Task Dim TskPred As Task Dim Predecessor As String For Each tsk In ActiveProject.Tasks If Not tsk Is Nothing Then If tsk.PercentComplete <> 100 And tsk.PredecessorTasks.Count > 0 And tsk.Summary = False Then 'Only if incomplete task with links ReadyToGo = True Predecessor = vbNullString For Each TskPred In tsk.PredecessorTasks If TskPred.PercentComplete < 100 Then ReadyToGo = False If Not Len(Predecessor) = 0 Then Predecessor = Predecessor & ", " End If Predecessor = Predecessor & TskPred.ID End If Next TskPred tsk.Text6 = Predecessor If ReadyToGo Then tsk.Flag6 = True tsk.Text6 = "None" Else tsk.Flag6 = False End If End If End If Next tsk End Sub

Andre

Windows 2016 servers with name resolution issues
Hello,
We have several Windows Servers 2016 with Directory Services and DNS roles installed only, fully patched, IPV6 disabled, Firewall profiles off. If servers are rebooted, ping requests stop working with the following error, no matter what is pinged. We have tried with ping -4 <name_to_resolve> to discard IPV6 issues:
Error: Ping request could not find host <name_to_resolve>. Please check the name and try again
However, nslookup resolves the name properly.
We have run ipconfig /flushdns and keep having the same problem.
The only fix we have found so far is: restart DNS client on the client machines with the problem and run ipconfig /flushdns afterwards.
Is there a permanent fix for this issue?
Thank you.

Not sure why access Denied. Both the web applications are in the same farm and in the same domain. Please assist. Thank you
