Page Layout: Recreate on several (SharePoint Online) tenants?
Hi everybody,
I'm currently looking for a handy way to recreate page layouts on several tenants. Due to the activated Publishing Feature it's not feasible to save the site as template and import it as solution elsewhere.
The background: In a page library are several content types (like LL, KB, etc) and every content type has an own page layout (because of different columns, contents, and so on). So one Page Layout ends in one Content Type, each with several columns. What do I have to be aware of? Is it enough to create CTs and columns by PowerShell, upload the page layout to the gallery and that's it or is there some manual work (which I want to avoid)?
Or (and here come's the discussion part): What would speak against a solution with several lists? Every Content Type from above would get its own list. AFAIK the only trouble I'll get is the form. Since the New Experience Design it's hard (for me) to change it.
The selected GPT formatted disk contains a partition which is not of type 'PARTITION_BASIC_DATA_GUID', and is both preceeded and followed by a partition of type 'PARTITION_BASIC_DATA_GUID'
I see this when I try to convert a basic disk to dynamic.
System shows that it is a MBR disk, instead of a GPT disk as the error message suggest.
I fixed this by deleting the 450M recovery volume created by windows 10.

SCCM 1602 - Asset Intelligence report License 14 A is providing zero inventory count eventhough Softwares are inventoried in Environment
Hi All,
We are trying to use SCCM asset intelligence for Microsft license report in SCCM 1602 environment .Below are the steps which are already configured
Enabled hardware, software inventory in clients
Enabled Asset Inteliigence , Synchronization point rile is enabled and sync is also completed succcessfully from system center online
Enabled the AI inventory classses
Checked if the inventory run in clients and I verified it in inventoried software
Imported the MVLS license CSV file into SCCM and the license data is imported successfully and could verify it in License 14 A report
Problem:
But then we tried to generate the License 14 A report , the inventory count column is zero for many softwares eventhough there are count in Inventoried software list
for example windows 8 professional software count is 4 as per inventoried software , but in 14 A report it is showing as zero count ..
I cross verified the MVLS sheet and it is in supported format
Checked other reports like license 01D,software reports and its working fine by providing the data
Checked the blogs , but couldnt find any answer . so appreciate your inputs on this and is there any known issue
Any suggestions how to procced in troubleshooting also will be really helpful
Regards,
Kalaivani

Hi all,
Been troubleshooting on this for long time , by analysing the Backend SQL tables and views.Below is my findings
The SQL function Used for this License 14 A report involves comparison of data from variuos other sql views and tables
It compares the inventoried software family name and the Version with the MVLS imprted data , only it if matches , it provides the license information in the report.
Additinaly this SQL function refers another SQL funtion which validates the license product id , software id , softwarehash of each and every inventoried software with the product list in the table LU_LicensedProduct.
This LU_LicensedProduct table contains the entire product list which includes windows 10 , but the license productid of windows 10 is -1 and other third party products like mozilla, adobe etc is also -1 . but for windows 7 and other old products the value is present and the LIcense 14 A report also provides some license count .
So i confirm that the licenseproductid value for windows 10 and late products are not updated in database or is there any other reason..
any Idea why the productid value is -1 and what does it indicates ??
or anyone with SCCM CB able to get proper the License 14 A report with windows 10 license count ??

Kalai

There is not even close to being enough information in your question to even attempt an answer. (What .exe file? Can it even run silently? That depends entirely on the .exe file. We didn't write it.)
In addition to that, this isn't a software deployment support forum.

Scripting C++ Redistributables
Good morning all!
I know I am overlooking the simple solution, so I figured I would ask here.
In preparation for an SAP rollout, I need to install specific versions of the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables to all machines in my organization. I have collected them all into a share, and written a batch file to do quiet (unattended) installations of them all. It runs fine when run locally from the share via a UNC path.
I am trying to determine the most effective way to run the batch on every machine.
The repository and batch file are at:
\\appserver01\apps\OpenText\Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable Package
The batch:
"2005 SP1\vcredist_x86.exe" /q
"2005 SP1\vcredist_x64.exe" /q:a /c:"VCREDI~2.EXE /q:a /c:""msiexec /i vcredist.msi /qn"" "
"2008 SP1\vcredist_x86.exe" /qn

We do use WSUS, but I can't seem to find the KB#s corresponding to the redistributables. What I do see is the Security updates applicable to the redist packages, but not the packages themselves.
I am pushing out .net 4.6.1 through WSUS Feature Packs.

FortiClient SSL VPN Client Not Functioning Correctly
Hello,
I use the FortiClient SSL application to connect to work. In Windows 7 x64 it works without issue. In Windows 8 Build 9200 it exhibits and odd behaviour.
I can connect using FortiClient version 4.4.3.445. Once connected my sent bytes continues to increase which is correct. However received bytes stays at 0.
If I try to Remote Desktop it fails. This is obviously due to no inbound packets coming back from the Fortigate appliance being allowed back to Windows 8.
Disabling the Firewall doesn't have any affect on the condition. Received bytes stays at 0.
This is a clean install with no 3rd party applications, other than the Forticlient software. This is only the SSL VPN portion of the the FortiClient software and does not included AV or Firewall options.
Doing some Googling, I've seen some other people with the same problem but no resolution. Another FortiClient user and Sophos & Juniper SSL VPN clients having the same problem.
Does anybody have any idea what would be causing the SSL VPN to only send bytes but not receive.
Thanks!
UPDATE 2:
In the built in MSTSC.exe "Remote Desktop" I went into Options/Advanced/Server Authentication. I switched the setting to "Connect and don't warn me" and that fixed the problem. The default was "Warn Me' However the warning screen was not coming up. Just for the heck of it I switched it back to the default settings and saved. Strangely I now get the "Warning" screen that you would normally see. So now both the built-in and App Store Remote Desktop applications are working. FortiClient still shows Bytes received as 0.....which is odd.
UPDATE: Solved Workaround
I was using the built-in Remote Desktop Application without success. I went into the APP Store and saw their was an APP called "Remote Desktop" I installed that and connected my FortiClient SSL to work. Still no received bytes like I would get in Win7. I then launched the "APP" Remote Desktop, punched in my PC name at work and creds and boom I can login to my work PC. FortiClient SSL still showing no received bytes, but the "Remote Desktop" from the APP store does work. Not sure why MSTSC.exe will not work, and why FortiClient shows no received bytes is still unsolved. At least the APP Store Remote Desktop works with the SSL Client.

My two cents... Using the 4.0.2073.0 SSL VPN client here.
In my Windows 8 Pro install, the counters are totally bonkers (sent in the billions plus, nothing for received) but I can connect just fine via RDP and VNC. Seems like Internet browsing is slowed a bit when the VPN connection is up though, sites take extra time to connect. Had no problems at all in Win 7.

executing SQL scripts (Encoding Issue)
Hey guys,
i am trying to execute several SQL scripts using this PowerShell script
$file = "C:\test\de_messages.sql" try { $res = Invoke-Sqlcmd -InputFile $File -Database "perukb" -ServerInstance "sis2w250" -QueryTimeout 65535 -ErrorAction 'Stop' -verbose Write-Output $res | Format-Table Write-Host "`n" } catch { Write-Host "error when running sql $File" -ForegroundColor Red Write-Host $_.Exception.Message -ForegroundColor Red } if the SQL script is insert or update and it contains unicode or utf-8 characters , those characters get inserted in ANSI as i came up after some research.
is there a way to make a universal script that can execute the scripts given as the MSSQL Management studio does
thanks

Your table columns must be defined as nchar, nvarchar or ntext to accept unicode. Also the file must be in Unicode.

Sorry - there is no way to do what you are asking. If scripts are written or saved incorrectly or table is not designed correctly there is no way I know of to compensate for that in a script.
Perhaps you are asking the wrong question.
If the table is not nchar then the input will always be translated to ANSI. If the table is ANSI then SQLCMD will always translate to ANSI even if you send it Unicode characters.
If you hand code the SQL commands usin g net then you can force the column type to nvarchar ot ntext but the table will still no work correctly in all situations.
If the table field is a blob or binary field then the file type will determine the content of the text inserted.
To analyze this you will need to answer all of these questions. There is no magic switch that will fix this.

thanks for the insight i will pass this to our DB developers and try to find if there is a way to create a SQL query execution script for universal encoding
i was able to execute queries by re-saving the files in the correct format
Case : UTF-8
$contentScript = Get-Content $File $contentScript | Out-File -Encoding utf8 $File
Case : Unicode
$contentScript = Get-Content $File $contentScript | Out-File -Encoding unicode $File
Case : most of the cases were solved by
$contentScript = Get-Content $File $contentScript | Out-File -Encoding default $File
but in the case that i change the file encoding to ANSI (default) other issues have appeared which is TAB spaces were causing errors like invalid syntax near ....
i was able to solve that too but by opening the file and reformatting the script using SQL Prompt plugin, but still looking for an full automated solution.

A full solution requires that the DB developers provide you with the correct file type for the required encoding.

You are only posting a single function out of a larger script. That's not helpful because we cannot reproduce the condition whereby the error is triggered.
Instead, you need to write a very short script that contains only the absolute minimum amount of code needed to reproduce the error condition. Also provide forum readers with a sample test case that makes it possible for us to reproduce. This principle is described here: The Short, Self Contained, Correct, Example.

This is often caused by using unicode to save the file or by bad unprintable characters in the file.
I also suggest using split to disassemble the path
uncpath = "\\server\share\folder" path = Replace(uncpath,"\\","") parts = Split(path,"\") For i = 0 To Ubound(parts) WScript.Echo parts(i) NextThis prevents bad arithmetic errors

Use other printer port monitor
Hi Com.
I´ve a big problem writing a script to install printer on two different printserver. I´m using the Add-PrinterPort and Add-Printer Cmdlet´s remote. The script runs well and installs the port and the printer on the servers. Only problem is that Add-PrinterPort only differs between the local port or the standard TCPIP Port.
We use a unique Ricoh port named SNX SPM Direct Port. Is there a way to use this printer port monitor via Powershell?
Hope somebody could help.

Hmm, does nobody has a clue?
Custom ports cannot be created in script. You must install the vendors software using the installer to get the custom port to be created.
If you use a print server then none of this is needed and printers can just be attached by the user or through Group Policy.

How have you designed training registration forms in the past?

GPO to change all Windows 10 sleep options to hibernate?
Since, S3 sleep is insecure on Bitlocker encrypted laptops, we need to remove that option and only leave the option to hibernate or shut down.
How can I configure all power settings to replace sleep with hibernate?
I found how to change power and sleep buttons to hibernate via GPO, but I can't find any way to use group policy settings to make Windows 10 systems hibernate instead of sleep. This includes the shut down menu and Settings, System, Power & Sleep.
Even the power plan only seems to have options to sleep after X minutes, but I need to change those to hibernate after x minutes and just bypass S3 sleep alt together.
If I set sleep to "never," then the system just stays active constantly, but we need it to hibernate.
Reply:
I was looking for this information too. I think I've sorted it as follows...
- Disable the use of Sleep mode with these group policies:
- System > Power Management > Sleep Settings > 'Allow Standby States (S1 – S3) when sleeping (on battery)' – DISABLED
- System > Power Management > Sleep Settings > 'Allow Standby States (S1 – S3) when sleeping (plugged in)' - DISABLED
- Change the power button and lid close actions as follows:
- System > Power Management > Button Settings > 'Select the lid switch action (on battery)' – HIBERNATE
- System > Power Management > Button Settings > 'Select the lid switch action (plugged in)' - HIBERNATE
- System > Power Management > Button Settings > 'Select the Power button action (on battery)' - HIBERNATE
- System > Power Management > Button Settings > 'Select the Power button action (plugged in)' - HIBERNATE
Once this is done, the only options available from the Power button on the start menu are Shut Down, Restart and Hibernate. Pressing the power button or closing the lid will cause the system to hibernate. However, this will leave them in a state where they will never hibernate or sleep when they're plugged into AC power, and will only hibernate after 2 hours if they're on battery. You could use the 'Specify the system hibernate timeout' settings in System > Power Management > Sleep Settings to force systems to hibernate after a set time, but users would not be able to change that timeout value. Instead, we're planning to use SCCM to run the following commands during OS deployment:
Powercfg –change hibernate-timeout-ac 10
Powercfg –change hibernate-timeout-dc 5
Since all of our laptops have SSDs these days, the resume time is only around 10 seconds, which should be acceptable.

Print Dialog Box too slow to appear
Hi,
Recently users started to complaint about the "Print" dialog window is taking too long to appear. I did some tests with different programs and the experience is the same. I've done a couple of research online and i could not find anything helpful.
We do have a Server 2008 R2 Print server and a Server 2003 Standard edition, both servers are acting like PRINT servers with just the "print server" roles installed. I've done the same tests with both servers and here are the results;
- Only 1 printer is installed on the workstation (Windows 7 Professional X86)
- From Excel, Paint and PDF-XChange Viewer PRO (pdf viewer), I do "File" - "Print" and waiting for about 20 seconds for the "print" dialog box to appear.
- I deleted all the printers that were added on the workstation from the print server, and did the same tests
- From Excel, Paint and PDF-XChange Viewer PRO, I do "File" - "Print" and the dialog box appears almost instantly without any delay.
(I have done the same tests with 3 different workstations, 2 physical & 1 virtual machine and they are all Windows 7 Professional X86)
How can i troubleshoot this kind of problem. I looked at the "Event Viewer" but no luck. This problem started a couple of days ago and nothing has been changed in our systems with regards to the printer.
Thanks in advance.

It may be caused by printer driver.

In windows 7, enable the Operational log in Envent Viwer under Applications and Services logs\Microsoft\Windows\Pinrtservice. then you will get more information.

I really don't think that it's the printer drivers as the probleme wasn't there a couple of days ago and we did not update any printer drivers or so. But I will give that a try maybe the latest drivers will help. I will also enable the logs to see if that gives me more info.
Thank you

Guess this dropped of the Microsoft Abyss. Still an ongoing problem for me with no errors in the event log.

Office Updates, GPO: Update Channel not obeyed
We are using a hosted file share for Office Deployment (no CDN). \\server\deployment
We are using a hosted file share for Office Updates (no CDN): \\server\updates
On the updates share, we have two builds available and all client machines look there for their updates (single path).
- Office Business Channel 16.0.6741.204
- Office First Release for Business Channel 16.0.7369.2055
We are using Group Policy to control the Update Channel and we have the following problem.
Although our client machines are set on Business Channel via GP, they updated to the First Release for Business Channel version!
We have no setting on the TargetVersion policy setting since theoretically, the client would select the respective Channel's build (16.0.6741.2048) and not the highest available found on the Updates share (16.0.7369.2055) since that belongs to another Channel.
So, the question is, why set the 'Update Channel' GP setting if it is not obeyed? Is this the intended way for updates to function?
Thank you

Well, Microsoft support verified that this is somehow broken. I should -for the sake of safety- not depend on this and ideally setup different physical paths to binaries for the different Channels.

Visual Studio Team Test
Hi ,
I am using VSTS for web performance testing. In my webtest scripts I have added loop. It is working for 1st iteration where as on 2nd iteration it is getting failed. I am using unique data for each iteration and also applied extraction rules for session id and other dynamic values. Could you help to get it resolved.
Thanks
