Dear Team,
I am using sccm 2012 to update the windows patches & application.
Today our company brought Lync 2013 licence but I am not able to download lync 2013 .msi packge.
If I deploy lync setup.exe in the client machine lync is not getting installed.
Can somebody help me to resolve this issue.

Good New OS, with a few bugs.
I'm a huge proponent of scrolling desktop backgrounds, they're awesome for someone like me who can't pick a single background. While the feature exists, It seems to not work for me. I've tried several modes and storage methods for the folder, but nothing quite works. Also, there are some random error messages on shut down pertaining to the explorer.exe and some stuttering when changing windows.
Other than those few minor issues, I am already a fan of this new Windows, and look forward to installing it on my other machines.

Error code 1603 while trying to install Integration Services on an XP Pro SP2 "repaired" P2V VM
This is actually a solution. I'm posting in case someone else runs into this problem.
I was experimenting with a trying to revive a dead PC. It was an old Pentium III running a legacy app that had a hard disk fail. I had a very old Ghost image but recent "data-only" backups.
Since I didn't have a PC to spare, I decided to try to Ghost the old image onto a VHD. I was successful--VHD mount by AppAssure was very helpful.
But booting the VM resulted in a BSOD. No problem I thought. A repair install using the XP Pro CD should get it going. It did. Successfully boots but lacked Integration Services. Able to login as the old local admin account.
Tried to install Integration Services as usual but part way through, after "...framework install" or "ustor...something" and during "guest services", I got a 1603 error code.
After much fussing around I found that deep in the log files in C:\Windows (look for the most recent ones), there was an error trying to create the directory: C:\program files\Hyper-V Integration Services". I was local admin and the folder permissions for C:\Program Files" explicitly had full control for the local admin account so I couldn't understand why there was a problem. Just on a lark, I gave "Everyone" full control over "C:\program files" and afterwards, re-running the Integration Services carried on to finish.
I'm too much of a noob to know what happened but I'm just reporting what I found was the solution.

Hi,
First of all, thanks for your sharing!
By the way, I would like to let you know what we don’t support to use ghost to perform a P2V. If you want to transfer the physical computer to a VM on Hyper-V, you should use some dedicate transfer tools such as Microsoft System Center Virtual Machine Manager or Disk2VHD.

The "WIndows 8.1 explorer slows down gradually" thread.
The (now locked) previous thread was:
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/f9ab40a8-6681-4c66-bdbd-9de7b2fb021f/action?threadDisplayName=windows-81-gradually-slows-down-after-hours-speed-returns-normal-if-restart
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't know why it is locked anyway, as EMKOEMKO was one of the "founders" of that thread months ago.
So... to summarize:
Explorer.exe has some sort of problem in windows 8.1, the system UI gradually becomes more and more unresponsive/jerky. Most notably DWM related funtions. As soon as you relaunch explorer.exe the problem dissappears and gradually comes back after a few hours.
- Edited by SaccoSVD Tuesday, September 30, 2014 11:44 AM
Reply:
Actually the problem also goes away if I unload dwm.dll
The screen goes black, then Win8 restarts it automatically and the UI works smoothly as expected again. So the problem is caused either by explorer.exe or dwm.exe
At least i know I can kill dwm instead of explorer and keep my tray icons.

Have you checked this issue in anoter user account? What is the result?
To better know what happene with explorer, we can aso use process moniotr to view the detailed process, filter the explore.exe in process monitor.

Hi.
I'm gonna try.
I already have process monitor, what should I check there specifically? CPU usage and RAM in this case are not a problem. Maybe the amount of threads, calls?
I pinpointed this problem to these two, either explorer or wdm.exe
I'll try and report.
In the meantime, did you read the info in the other thread (top)?

Hi,
Process Monitor is always useful to trace the process\thread activity. I paste it again here in order to catch the attention, meanwhile, have you tried the WPT tool mentioned by Zigzag, any result?
This is weird that the explorer is gradually slowing down, not crash, so what we can look for in process monitor is finding the exception according to time, both explorer.exe and dwm.exe needs to be filtered in Process monitor, I admit that it's a hard job to find any exception in this way.
Not sure if you have used any malware remove tools, but worth a try to fix this issue.
By the way, what is the result if we test the performance of explorer in cleanboot mode, please follow the link below to enter into cleanboot mode

1) Here are two logs from Process Monitor showing explorer.exe
https://www.sendspace.com/file/b7vl6u
With the problem.PML: This is when the issue is present and noticeable
Without the problem.PML: This is after restarting dwm.exe and explorer.exe
I cannot say if there's a problem, both look quite the same to me.
Also "dwm.exe" or "RocketDock.exe" don't return too much data, just sporadic thread creations or rare access to registry.
Explorer on both cases is constantly accessing the registry but it seems normal.
2) I also tried with a new blank user account and the problem doesn't seem to come up which suggests something else might be at work here but the system traces don't show anything abnormal and the fact the issue is temporarily fixed only when restarting explorer or dwm.

Hi,
Compare the two process monitor logs, the log with the problem shows that the explorer.exe access the shellex more frequently and last a longer time than the log without problem, explorer issue can usually caused by imcompatible shell extensions, we can use ShellExView to check if it is the culprit, run ShellExView, in the pane sort the entries with manufacturers. Disable all non-Microsoft *.dll files, and check the result. If the issue does not occur, one of the files can be the culprit. We could narrow down it one by one.
You can find more information about ShellExView in the link below

ShellEx doesn't seem to effectively disable shell extension entries.
I tried:
1) Disabling the non window extensions, opening explorer and right clicking on a folder to bring the context menu.
2) Restarting explorer, and right click on a folder to bring the context menu. (shellex even has CTRL+E to restart explorer)
Either way the extensions are still there, for example the avast antivirus, 7zip or the picture resizer. In other words, they just won't go. Maybe shellex is not yet compatible with W8?
I also tried opening shellex with admin privileges and it doesn't seem to work.

Is that or Firefox, cause I've switched back to Chrome cause Firefox was hogging the system if I leaved facebook open for too long, since I switched to Chrome the issue has also disappeared, at least around that time. I still need to confirm.- Edited by SaccoSVD Friday, June 19, 2015 6:04 PM

Issues after upgrading to Exchange 2010 SP3
I just upgraded our Exchange 2010 server from "no service pack" to SP3 and it was not without issues...!!
The first and biggest issue was that something broke our CRM 2011 E-Mail Router that was not able to import e-mails anymore. After hours of troubleshooting the error "no results were found" we found that the SP3 has made changes to the Exchange.asmx web service. It was very difficult to figure out what was changed after the SP3 install, but when we created an mailbox for the account checking inbound mails and made it visible in the GAL it worked again. That account has never had an mailbox, but after SP3 it was necessary to make it work.
The other issue I have not yet resolved is a Search related issue only to OWA. When searching in OWA I get the error: "This action couldn't be completed". I also get error 9842 in the Windows Event Log.
Function CISearch::EcGetRowsetAndAccessor detected that content indexing was disabled for database 'Mailbox Database 1508902470' because of error '0x80041820' from MSSearch.
It seems like there is an issue with the Search service and my database. I will try running the following 2 commands to see if it can fix my issue in my next service window:
Repair-ExchangeSearchSymlinks.ps1ResetSearchIndex.ps1 -force -all
I will let you know if it resolves my search issue.

Exchange 2013 is using internal interface for resolving external DNS names in case of multi NIC Windows 2012 R2 server
Hi
I have deployed a single MBX Exchange 2013 server (MBX & CAS) with two NICs.
Internal NIC facing ADDC /intranet and DMZ NIC facing Firewall/SNAT and Internet.
There is a static routing configuration in place making sure 0.0.0.0/0 goes via DMZ NIC GW.
I have an access to I-net using IE and I can successfully resolve gmail.com i.e. ping gmail.com works.
I did manual configuration for Servers>DNS lookups, pointing External DNS lookups to my DMZ NIC and Internal DNS Lookups to my Internal NIC.
In addition I have manually set Transport Service DNSs settings using Set-TransportService cmd-let
At the end I restarted both MSExchangeTransport & MSExchangeFrontEndTransport.
Nevertheless problem remains - Exchange keep sending DNS queries for gmail.com to my Internal DNS (used only for AD) and because of that DNS lookup fails.
Am I missing something here?

Print On Hold Via GPO

Hi,
the "On Hold" feature is not windows build-in function, and it is provided some third-party printers. Also, there is no GPO related to "On Hold" printers. So based on the current situation, it is recommended to involve the printer vendor to help with the issue.

Measures don't work when database change
Hello,
I hope I can get some help about one issue I encountered.
I built a model on data from a sales table (and a query of customer information based on the sales) in SQL Server and all the measures work fine.
But when I try to rebuild the same model upon the data in Access (one sales table and one query in Access), some measures showed error (invalid formula) or blank (which should contain values). There is no error message when I check the formula.
For example, one measure comparing current month sales with last 12 month avg. It worked fine when I simply used a DIVIDE:
DIVIDE('Customer Information'[CmSales]-'Customer Information'[Last12mSalesAvg],'Customer Information'[Last12mSalesAvg])
But when I added an IF in front to calculate it under certain conditions, the measure shows blank for all rows. Please refer to the attached snapshot.
Can someone help me with this? I scratched my head for a few days and can't find the answers by google.
Thanks in advance
Alex

Hi Lin,
I find it interesting that you're not getting an error message as it looks like 'Customer Information'[FrequencyPoint] is a column reference. If that's the case, then Power Pivot would be unable to determine this column's value in the context of a Measure. We would need to apply an aggregated function to it such as a MIN or MAX.
If I make the assumption that 'Customer Information'[FrequencyPoint] is a column and 'Customer Information[CmSales] and 'Customer Information'[Last12mSalesAvg] are both Measures then something like this could work:
= IF( MAX('Customer Information'[FrequencyPoint]) = 4, DIVIDE('Customer Information'[CmSales] - 'Customer Information'[Last12mSalesAvg], 'Customer Information'[Last12mSalesAvg]) ,0 ) If this isn't the case then please could you share a workbook with some dummy data that presents the same problem? If not, can you describe the portion of your model that's directly related to this problem:
- Tables
- Table relationships
- Columns and Calculated Columns
- Measures with their DAX formulas

Hi Michael,
Thanks for reply. Sorry I did not make it clear. The 'Customer Information'[FrequencyPoint] is also a measure. So the solution does not work in such case.
Sorry that I can't share the workbook.
There are 3 tables: Sales, Customer Information and Calendar. Sales is related to Customer Information by Customer ID, and Calendar is related to Sales via Date.
There are tons of measures for this:
FrequencyPoint=
IF('Customer Information'[Frequency]>=0.8,4, IF('Customer Information'[Frequency]>=0.5,3, IF('Customer Information'[Frequency]>=0.3,2, 1))) Frequency= 'Customer Information'[BuyCount(Month)]/'Customer Information'[FirstBuytoDate]BuyCount(Month)=
CALCULATE(DISTINCTCOUNT(Sales[Year Month]),FILTER(ALL(Calendar),Calendar[Date]<=MAX(Calendar[Date])))FirstBuytoDate=
MaxDate=(YEAR(Calendar[MaxDate])-YEAR('Customer Information'[FirstBuyDate]))*12+
MONTH(Calendar[MaxDate])-MONTH('Customer Information'[FirstBuyDate])+1
ENDOFMONTH(Calendar[Date])FirstBuyDate=
CALCULATE(MIN(Sales[Sales Date]),ALL(Calendar[Year]),ALL(Calendar[Month]))Last12mSalesAvg=
CALCULATE(SUM(Sales[Sales Amount]), DATESBETWEEN(Calendar[Date], DATEADD(NEXTDAY(ENDOFMONTH(Calendar[Date])),-13,MONTH), DATEADD(LASTDATE(STARTOFMONTH(Calendar[Date])),0,MONTH)))/12CmSales=
SUM(Sales[Sales Amount])
------------------------------------
Reply:
Hi Lin,
Thanks for clarifying. What happens when you place [FrequencyPoint] in the Pivot Table shown in your screenshot above. Does it return a value? Also what happens when you swap out the measures in your DIVIDE() for constants?
= IF( 'Customer Information'[FrequencyPoint] = 4, DIVIDE(4, 2) ,0 )
I'm trying to get an idea of what is/isn't being hit in the formula.

Win10 : Concern over the general volume of Updates - will they be over the top?
Dear Folks
I am not referring to the initial bout of updates that are expected when you upgrade to a new OS - - I am talking about the ongoing minimum volume of updates - once win10 is in place and 'settled'.
I am quite happy to visit an internet cafe, pay the 20 bucks and sit there for hours while I upgrade my system to win 10. But my concern is - in the ongoing experience - will win 10 really punish me with hefty data requirements??? I use my phone data (wifi hotspot) which is 1.5 gig per month for all my 'usual' data requirements (at present win 8.1) because I avoid skype, utube, and all that social media stuff and server based apps.
As we all know, the the steady increase of base level data needed for updates and server based applications - is here to stay. But I was hoping that the rabid acceleration could at least be moderated somewhat.
Can anybody give me words of encouragement or warning ? ?
Much appreciated.

When Windows 10 releases , there would be many upgrades (probably) but for future updates, it actually depend on the situation and requests. For example, if there aren't many issue to be fixed, then there won't be many upgrades while when there are issues, there would be many upgrades.
This is usually happens, after the initial release and when most issues have been solved, there would be fewer upgrades.

[Forum FAQ] Receive Side Scaling and Virtual Machine Queues Quick Start
Quick Review
- RSS is Receive Side Scaling and is a commonly used technology to disperse network traffic among multiple CPU cores on a physical host to load balance processing. Reliant on vendor implementation. RSS was first implemented with the scalable networking pack in 2003 SP2 and is still widely used today.
- VMQ is Virtual Machine Queuing and is a commonly used technology to evenly disperse network traffic among multiple CPU cores on virtual machines on a Hyper-V host. Reliant on vendor implementation.
- VRSS is VIRTUAL Receive Side Scaling and can be used to augment VMQ on VMs to increase throughput. VRSS is introduced in 2012 R2 and you must use 2012 R2 level OS for both the HOST and the VM.
- VMQ Queues are maximum numbers of lanes (processor allocations) at a hardware level.
- RSS Queues are maximum numbers of lanes (processor allocations) at a hardware level.
- SR-IOV is another technology that can be paired with VMQ.

Understanding RSS
RSS is a solution to distribute network traffic to all cores configured on a host machine. It depends on Hardware, Driver and Firmware. If you have a heavy host load, it is recommended to enable it.
RSS makes use of hardware queues on a NIC to indicate interrupts directly to multiple CPUs. As packets arrive at the NIC they are filtered and placed in the appropriate queue. After a small period of time, the queue will then indicate all the packets to the CPU it is affinitized to. (Figure 1)

Hands on RSS
Get-NetAdapterRss output provides detailed information about RSS. It helps us to determine if and how RSS will work, how many processors are available, and if the Indirection Table is heavily biased towards any processors in particular (Figure 2)

Figure 2: Get-NetAdapterRss
- MaxProcessors: Sets the maximum number of RSS processors to be used. This ensures that application traffic is bound to a maximum number of processors on a given interface.
- BaseProcessorGroup: Sets the base processor group of a NUMA node. This impacts the processor array that is used by RSS.
- MaxProcessorGroup: Sets the Max processor group of a NUMA node. This impacts the processor array that is used by RSS. Setting this would restrict a maximum processor group so that load balancing is aligned within a k-group.
- BaseProcessorNumber: Sets the base processor number of a NUMA node. This impacts the processor array that is used by RSS. This allows partitioning processors across network adapters. This is the first logical processor in the range of RSS processors that is assigned to each adapter.
- NumaNode: The NUMA node that each network adapter can allocate memory from. This can be within a k-group or from different k-groups
- NumberofReceiveQueues: If your logical processors seem to be underutilized for receive traffic (for example, as viewed in Task Manager), you can try increasing the number of RSS queues from the default of 2 to the maximum that is supported by your network adapter. Your network adapter may have options to change the number of RSS queues as part of the driver.
- IndirectionTables: Displays the hash table buckets that are used to distribute incoming traffic.
Important:
1. When reviewing the Indirection Table, if the second number is all the same, it is a problem and would mean that one processor is more heavily favored over the others and might be indicative of a driver issue.
2. RSS provides hashing and scalability to host interface only. RSS does not provide any interaction with virtual machines, instead users can configure VMQ in those scenarios.
3. RSS can be enabled for guest virtual machines in the case of SR-IOV because the virtual function driver supports RSS capability. In this case, the guest and the host will have the benefit of RSS. Note that the host does not get RSS capability because the virtual switch is enabled with SR-IOV.
4. RSS can be enabled on a network adapter that is teamed with another network interface card using NIC Teaming. In this scenario, only the underlying physical network adapter can be configured to use RSS. A user cannot set RSS cmdlets on the teamed network adapter.
If you would like to tune RSS, you can use Set-NetAdapterRss.

Understanding VMQ
VMQ is a solution to fairly distribute network processing to multiple guests on one host. It depends on Hardware, Driver and Firmware. If you have a heavy VM load, it is recommended to enable it.
VMQ is very similar to RSS, but network processing ability is optimized for VM workload instead of at the host layer like in RSS. VMQ includes vSwitch pulls VM's into the process. (Figure 3)

Virtual Machine Queue (VMQ)
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/hardware/ff571034(v=vs.85).aspx
Hands on VMQ
Following are the pre-requirements to implement VMQ::
- Windows 7/Windows Server 2008 R2 and later Guest VMs are VMQ compatible by default. Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 Guests can use VMQ only with the Integration Services Installed
- Windows Server 2008 R2 and later Hyper-V Hosts
- NIC Speed (>10GB)
- Appropriate drivers, firmware and hardware
Note: By default, we do not enable VMQ on 1GB NICs because a single processor is usually more than sufficient to handle the networking traffic generated. If your workload requires that you use VMQ on a 1GB card you will need to enable it by setting a registry key. You can run: reg add HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\VMSMP\Parameters /v BelowTenGigVmqEnabled /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f

Get-NetAdapterVmq and Get-NetAdapterVmqQueue output provide us the processor assignment information. (Figure 4)

Figure 4: Get-NetadapterVmq
Parameters of Get-NetAdapterVmq:
- Enabled: If your NIC is VMQ capable then this parameter can be either True or False
- BaseVmqProcessor: This is the lowest CPU that VMQ will use to assign queues to from the NIC
- MaxProcessors: The maximum number of processors this NIC will use to assign queues to
- NumberOfReceiveQueues: The number of queues that the NIC has available to use and assign to VMs, the host and a default queue
Parameters of NetAdapterVmqQueue:
- QueueID: This refers to the queue on the NIC that is assigned to the corresponding MAC Address. If this is left blank, then it is a default queue and will interrupt CPU 0 or the base processor on the system
- MACAddress: The MAC Address that the queue is assigned to
- VlanID: The ID of the VLAN the queue is assigned to. If VLANs are assigned, this is used in conjunction with the MAC Address to identify the correct destination
- Processor: The processor that the queue is currently affinitized to (This is currently set to 0 for all queues because of Dynamic VMQ. I will go over why this is in more detail in a future post)
- VMFriendlyName: The machine name of the destination. If this is set to the hosts machine name, then it can refer to a vNIC or a default queue
You can use Set-NetAdapterVmq to tune VMQ.

Using RSS or VMQ
1. It is recommended to separate RSS and VMQ on physical adapters. (Figure 5)

Figure 5: Separate RSS and VMQ on physical adapters
- You can have ONLY RSS or ONLY VMQ enabled on one host level adapter at a time.
- If you have two 10Gbps NICs and ample processors, both VM workload and Host Workload will have bandwidth without a bottleneck.
- If you have Teamed NIC adapters, and in the teamed adapter scenario can have separate ports connected to separate switches for maximum redundancy.
2. RSS with vSwitch is not possible. (Figure 6)

Figure 6: RSS with vSwitch is not possible
As soon as you create a vSwitch, RSS on that adapter connected with the vSwitch is disabled. If you check the advanced properties of the adapter the NIC may still show RSS enabled, but you will notice that the Indirection Table is not present when running Get-NetAdapterRss. (Figure 7)

Figure 7: The Indirection Table is not present
3. All adapters with VMQ enabled. (Not recommended) (Figure 8)

Figure 8: All adapters with VMQ enabled
In this configuration, the HOST might not get full bandwidth to transfer network traffic through. The VMs will have multiple cores to transfer network traffic (1 each, unless using VRSS), but Host will have only one processing core. This is a common problem with LIVE MIGRATION scenarios.

Features on installed programs
I don't know about everyone, but I downloaded windows 10 Pro Insider Preview Build 10074. I'm using Virtual Box as my VM, had no problem getting installed or running, but for some reason when I click on some programs like "settings, Sparta, etx..." The program starts then closes on it's own. Then I go back to the program and click it again, and it starts again and this time it actually works, this is a continues situation on every program I click. Also "Please get rid of the icon startup on programs like settings and other functions to fix the system this is slowing people down and it cost more memory usage and processing power" this is a wast of time and energy plus it just aggravates people. Another issue, making two machines talk to each other is extremely more complex, if I try to ping another system on my account I get Destination host unreachable. Which is fine if I turned off pinging, but I did not find " Networking-Echo Request (ICMPv4-In) in the "inbound FireWallRules", so how do I check ping request within my own network using the ping command? I know I don't need the ping command to find it but it's still useful to me. Also nice setup on the new powershell making it look more like cmd, and fussing them together is a great idea. With the combined power of both you can really get a lot of work done fast. Another questionable issue I have why, why, why have icons on the start menu? This is a wast of space and memory sort of, I mean it looks big and bulky instead why don't you add another task bar, that the user can move around and don't add another start menu on it, or other icons like the first one "LEAVE IT BLANK" allow the user to add whatever icons they want on the new task bar, or give the options to have "multiple task bars" around the frame if they want it that way, most people not IT professionals keeps adding folders and other icons on the desktop just to click on it. But if you had "multiple task bars" that easy to add to the windows Desktop, I'm sure they would add them and place the icons on the task bars and yes "hiding all task bars would be great" this will allow whatever background the user want on the computer to show up without files every where on the background. Also add hibernate to power options. Great idea with "task view" nice feature. Other than that windows 10 looks great to me, but I'm just getting started with working with it.
Please, Everyone who Likes what I have said or don't I don't care which, please leave note's for Microsoft, I think adding and taking away these features would make windows 10 more user friendly and less memory consuming for most people. Just give feed back it's the last windows after all lets make it count for everyone!!!

Data Management Gateway ERROR: [DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen (SECDoClientHandshake()).]SSL Security error.
I get this error while configuring Data Management Gateway with encryption enabled:
Failed to test connection. [DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen (SECDoClientHandshake()).]SSL Security error.
I'm using self signed certificate imported into Trusted Root Certification Authority. Any ideas how to resolve this?
(i'm connecting to sql server 2012 that has encryption enabled and both DMG and SQL Server are on same box)
Thanks..

Windows 10 and Office 365 troubles
I have a downloaded win10 (build 10130) and have reinstalled the Office 365. According to the Microsoft proposal, I have instlled the X84. Still the Windows 10 is a 64 bits application. Yesterday it worked quite well. Today, I was trying to open it - no success. Each time it says to debug it. I tried all the methods, no other issue than unknown program. What to do?
Tip: I am working in Angola, the internet connection is very weak ( satellite) shared with other 10-12 co-workers. It took 2 days to d/l it. What to do? As I need at least a word processor for my job.

Mi red no me permite acceder a a mi servidor! Gracias

Good day ,
Please help us to help you.
Take your time and Invest a little on your question !
This is not fair and not polite to ask our free contribute help while you do not try your best to do your part :-(
Patrick already asked you to add DDL+DML, so you added the create table query for one table?!? what about the rest of them, what about queries to insert some sample data (DML part).
Without this information we don't have the tools to reproduce you case fast and check your query execution.
For example we are missing the DDL+DML for the DetailsTable table.
I did not continue to check if other tables are missing as well.
I will ask you again :-)
Please help us to help you. Take your time and Invest a little on your question :-)
post queries to create the relevant tables, and queries to insert some sample data.
Thanks,
*** p.s.
in the same issue of "Invest a little on your question" please make sure that the code is readable as much as you can. The query code at the moment is not organized and is not readable like it is (line breaks, Tabs... make it look like hierarchy code if you can).
