Yet another IBCM question

Yet another IBCM question

OK, so I've read multiple threads and have not found the exact answer I need :)

My site; SP2 R3 single site server with all functions except DP (seperate server, mostly for imaging space) Database is on the site server. Appx. 10,000 clients, FEP is installed, Power Managment is enabled.

Converted to Native mode a week or so ago with help from MS. appx 8500 are reporting native mode currently, the other 1500 systems are the ones that need Internet Managment. most of these 1500 will transition from intranet to internet regularly.

I've looked at the different scenarios, but I can't define which gives the clients the ability to move between MPs. Am I correct in assuming that I have to have SQL replicated to the perimeter netowrk to acommplish this?

Reply:

With Native Mode, clients can be in one of three modes:

- Internet-only. In this mode, clients only report to the Internet MP which is assigned at client agent installation time.

- Intranet-only. In the this, clients can freely roam between internal MPs

- Internet or intranet. In this mode, clients try to connect to their assign internal MP. If this fails, they try to connect to their assigned Internet MP which they can query from AD at agent installation time.

Thanks for the quick reply Jason. My question is not such much as how to reinstall the client without the "CCMALWAYSINF=1 for Internet-only management" property (These are existing R3 clients that never had that parameter included) or even about how to configure AD for the new Interent based Update Server.

I need to understand and define the function of SQL replication to the perimeter network. What added functionality does SQL Replication give me? Is it just increased security due to not requiring inbound SQL traffic to the Intranet SQL database? That's the 5,000 dollar (literally) question :)

- Yes.  From "Determine Server Placement for Internet-Based Client Management" (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb632871.aspx):

The SQL replica means that all the connections from the perimeter network to the intranet are initiated from the intranet, which is more secure than being initiated from the perimeter network.

In security terms, the intranet is perceived to be a "trusted network", while the perimeter network is "untrusted" because it is vulnerable to attack from the Internet.  So for a more secure configuration, you always want connections to be initiated from a trusted source rather than from an untrusted source.

Windows 7 corrupts floppy disk data when writing

I have been trying to create an F6 driver disk for windows XP in windows 7 64-bit RC1, I have a relatively new floppy disk drive (< 6 months) and on windows vista 64 it worked with no problems. I have upgraded to Windows 7 RC. After many attempts to create a readable floppy I decided to look at the floppy in another OS, so I booted win98 in a virtual machine and ran chkdsk on the floppy. Chkdsk found numerous errors... see below
I finally rebooted to FreeDos, formatted the floppy and copied the driver files from the cd. This disk worked perfectly without any errors. The same disk that had the corrupted files in win 7. Also I found that Windows 7 format corrupted the disk geometry information.

I have basically given up on floppy disks. I don't believe that microsoft has the motivation to throw resources at such an outdated media. If you really need to make a floppy disk for another operating system, I recommend FreeDos. You can make a boot CD, it worked fine for me. I work on friends and families computers, most of them still use XP. If I need an F6 driver disk the only option I have is FreeDos. Wish I could have been more help, but until microsoft fixes it theres not much that can be done.
On a lighter note,  I really like Win 7. My motherboard treats a USB FLash memory stick like a floppy, so basically I have adapted.

Hi all,

nearly 4 hours later the floppy drive now works for me :)

Here's what I did to fix, It may not work for all..

after corrupting all the disks I had under win 7 x64 I loaded a cd based lite OS to format the disks ready for another try in windows 7 x64.

With 2 fresh floppys complete with a full format and system bootable I loaded up win 7 and tested the disk under My computer, All the startup files where there, so far so good.

Copied all the files from a: to c:\test using copy & paste, worked perfect.

Next I deleted all the startup files on the floppy disk, had a little trouble but It did complete the task.

Empty disk now so tried to copy the startup files in c:\test back to the floppy disk, and then the problems begin. While constantly clicking retry to copy I noticed that clicking My computer and exploring random folders on the C: drive seemed to help the copy process and then when I stopped clicking folders the I/O write error returned. I scratched my head and thought about hdd access helping bus on the mobo to stay open maybe. Then I thought maybe processor staying active from mouse moving around was possible helping, so the first thing I thought then was C3/C6/C7....

Into the Bios I go and disable C3/C6/C7 (C1E already disabled due static in audio, another bug with cpu pm features), save and exit and back into win 7, repeat the disk test above and everything works great...

Not sure if amd has C3/C6/C7 support, if it does then it may work for you too.

Good luck

New to the forum and know this is an age old problem. However today  I found that disabling HPET in bios of my giga-byte ga-ma790xt-ud4p motherboard enabled me to format a floppy and write to it. A full format had to be done to remove the previous corruption windows 7 put onto the disk.

Not too sure what dis-abling HPET will do to the system probably not much. I got this idea from a known issue with older versions of Linux on AMD chipset boards http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AMD_700_chipset_series (issues at bottom of page).

Hope this helps

Confusing Page Numbering in Word 2010

I have read quie a few posts lately on page numbering and printing custom ranges in Word 2010 lately and I believe it's worth opening a discussion on the subject. In my case, we had a number of users recently reporting problems printing a custom page range in a long Word document. I was able to find a work around and help them out but after several ocurrences I decided to look for more information.

I ran across several posts indicating the solution was to specify sections and/or pages to print explicitly using the format p#s# for the ranges. Given the mixed way that Word currently handles identifying pages this is completely counterintuitive. The problem I see is that all our users -- and just about everyone else I've even seen -- works with Word documents in the Print Layout and in that layout there's no way to tell whether the document is composed of sections or pages. Many users simply open the default template and occasionally tweak the margins and go merrily on their way typing, inserting into, pasting into and merging their documents assuming that pages are pages. They have no clue that their documents are breaking with section breaks instead of page breaks in many cases.

For the average user who just composes basic documents in the default print layout, there's no indication of whether the document contains sections or not. Even the Page Number section in the lower left of the window always says Page n of m. In fact, if I click on the page number to bring up the Find and Replace dialog and use Go To; when I enter the page number to juimp to, it takes me to the 25th page in sequence regardless of whether I have sections or not.

If I can jump to the place I want to start printing by typing 25 for the Page in the Go To dialog, I should be able enter a range starting with 25 and have it print the range starting at that same page. My suggestion is to only print specific page and/or sections when the user specified the p1s1 type of entry. There's no reason not to assume that a user entering a numeric range to print, such as 25-29, doesn't want that range to print as displayed in their current layout regardless of whether there are sections, pages or both.

At the very least, Be consistent. Adjust the location indicator on the lower left of the window so that it indicates the proper page and, when appropriate, section number so users will be aware that they are dealing with a sectioned document and will need to specify sections when printing and do the same in the Go To dialog as you would in the custom range field when Printing. If we IT Professionals and Power Users find it counterintuitive and frustrating, imagine how aggrivating it is to your average user.

Thanks...Ray

Word can be configured to display both the formatted page number and the section number on the status bar. Simply right-click on the status bar and make sure those options are checked.

Thank you for the response. I have verified this and it could be helpful however, for the majority of my users who aren't even sophisticated enough to purposely create multi-section documents, this is only of minor usage. My primary concern is that there is consistency across the user interface when dealing with page and section numbering. Here's a specific example of what I mean based on real experiences of our users.

Let's say I have a simple single page merge document -- no page headers, no page numbering -- and I'm merging with a list of 100 records. What I end up with is a 100 sections of a single page but in my copy of Word with the default settings, when I look at the Status Bar, I see page 1 of 100.

Now let's say I'm printing this document and at page 30 there is a problem that causes the print job to cancel. Now I want to continue printing from page 31. I go to Print and enter 31-100 in the custom range. I click Print and the job appears to print, spools and dissappears. Nothing comes out of the printer and I get no indication of an error.

I open the Go To dialog and type the number 31 with the Page selected under Go to what" and I am put to the 31st document and the status bar displays page 31 of 100.

As an unsophisticated user, I don't think "Maybe these page numbers aren't page numbers" I think "Word is not working properly" and I contact my helpdesk.

As an IT Professional and supporter of these users I expect to see a certain amount of consistency across the User Interface. If I can enter a number alone for the page in Go To and get to that page, I should be able to enter a number in the Print Custom Range and print that page. Alternately, if I must specify section or page in a multi-section document to print a custom range, then if I enter a page number that isn't valid in Go To, I should get some indication that I can't go to that page because it doesn't exist in the document as formatted. It is even more frustrating to all of us becuase our previous version (Word 2003) would just print the specified range when we entered the numbers. If the Go To section is smart enough to know that when I put in a page number that doesn't exist in any of my multiple sections, that I mean the page number as displayed in the user interface, I expect the Print Custom Range to be that smart as well. Since you can specify page and section explicitly as p# and s# for printing ranges from multi-section documents, it's quite reasonable to infer a numeric entry specified page number as displayed in the user interface, regardless of section and/or page numbering.

Does this make sense to you?

Thanks...Ray

Hi Ray,

I understand fully. However, Word has behaved this way since the early 1990s. That people are still being bitten by it demonstrates two things:
• it isn't intuitive
• there's been a lack of fairly basic training in how to use Word. I suspect the document created by the same users make very little use of Styles - some probably even have carriage returns at the end of every line and a mix of spaces & tabs on every 'indented' line ...

Disappointed with Lync 2010 mobile on Windows Phone 7

We have waited a while for Lync 2010 to be available on the Windows Phone, and while it has the potential to become a killer app it falls far short with only basic standalone messaging (albeit push) and presence.

Let alone not having any voice or video calling support, the provided basic messaging is less useful than existing capabilities of Outlook/Exchange (which shows in people hub history and lock screen) or Facebook (which shows in people hub 'history' and even messaging 'online' status).

I think the Lync team should work with the Windows Phone team to at least offer the following capabilities, which would together make Lync server + Windows Phone 7 a decent messaging combo.

1. Lync messaging should integrate with People hub profile. When I check the 'profile' of someone I have options to send text+chat via SMS or Facebook, write on their Facebook wall, or mention them on Twitter, as well as either call or send email. Lync messaging should be included in the people hub and it is silly to have a separate application for it.

2. Lync messaging should also integrate with the people hub 'history' tab, to show past Lync conversations.

3. It would be cool if, in addition to the above, the people hub showed the Lync online status of contacts.

4. The best place to show Lync messages is probably in the messaging hub, which includes both SMS/Facebook conversations (threaded), as well as an 'online' tab, listing currently online contacts. This shows me people online (from Facebook), but not Lync.

5. Lock screen should show messages waiting from Lync.

Of course voice and/or video (but needs WP7 to support front facing cameras first) would be nice, but can we at least get messaging right first?

Thanks for listening,

Sly Gryphon

Reply:

I would second your request for deeper Lync integration. It would be nice to see Microsoft integrate more of their products with their prouducts. Like Lync and Skype. So far it looks like we still have to wait till at least Apollo.

In regards to front facing cameras, that is already there with the HTC Titan, HTC Radar and I believe the Samsung Focus S. The Tango app supports video conferencing with these devices. The Nokia 900 should also have a front facing camera on it.

I agree that it would be nice for there to be a "tighter" integration, but you have to remember what that means, at least here in the US.  For them to be "tighter" it would mean writing it into the code of the phone which means that any updates would have to go through the carriers for approval and that would probably be 1 a year if not longer with all of the testing that would need to take place.  Because it's an App, they can update it whenever they want and get more functionality or release features as they come out, or bug fixes etc.  I think they've done a really good job with what they have so far..  I look forward to seeing more from the mobile team..

I think Microsoft needs to figure out an extensible integration. I agree that so far all integration has brought is convenience offsett by lack of updates. My hope had always been that there would be hooks for other developers to plug their apps into the integrated experience without truly being integrated.

Hi Guys,

Totally agree with all your comments.

Remember that this is only the first version of Lync for Mobile.

Of course Microsoft will come up with new feature in future updates. :-)

The technical challenge for Microsoft was to release a single client supporting multiple device, OS and vendors.

now they can focus on adding new features...

I guess the word will be patience :-)

Problems with accessing technet or answers if logged into windows live

Dear Microsoft.

Every time I try to access social.technet or answers on your domain (e.g. from a google or bing search result) and I am logged into windows live, instead of going to the forum page, I am being redirected to the login.live.com service and always end up on a error page with this text on login.live.com:

- This site may be experiencing a problem
- The site may not be a member of the Windows Live Network

This is really annoying. (Using Windows 7 and Opera, don't know if it happens with IE etc. too)

And forgive me this comment but every time I get to one of your web pages / web applications, it just lets me down. You really are in need of much better web UX developers in general. Oh, except MSDN. MSDN is great.

Process MSEXCHANGEADTOPOLOGYSERVICE.EXE (PID=2900). Topology discovery failed, error 0x80040a02 (DSC_E_NO_SUITABLE_CDC). Look up the Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) error code specified in the event description. To do this, use Microsoft Knowledge Base article 218185, "Microsoft LDAP Error Codes." Use the information in that article to learn more about the cause and resolution to this error. Use the Ping or PathPing command-line tools to test network connectivity to local domain controllers.

Looks like my exchange server rights to Manage auditing and security log may have gotten removed by SP2 upgrade and not returned because server was fine for about 1 week.

They (articles) edited GPO at domain level...I went right to the DC(s) local GPO's and a group already had permission (see below) so I added my server to this group and issue resolved

Make sure your server has permissions to "Manage Auditing and security Log" on your Domain Controllers

Default Domain Policy  GPO Object is:

Computer Configuration>Windows Settings>Security Settings>Local Policy>User Rights Assignment>Manage auditing and security log.

We have multiple users on Windows 7 machines, using IE8 to work with MS Dynamics CRM.  Some users are reporting that, when they click save and close on popup IE windows, the previous instance of IE refreshes and moves to the top of the page.  This is a problem because they are working off a list in CRM and every time that page refreshes to the top they have to scroll down and find where they left off.  This doesn't happen on all workstations.  I have found that if I change the Browsing History settings the problem will go away for a while but returns.  I have read all forums related to this problem and have tried every solution offered.  This is a serious problem since MS CRM won't work with any other browser.  Any help is appreciated.

Windows 8 CP (Hyper-V) "Feedback"

What's improved and what I like (after 1st quick look)

Has a much better GUI management look and feel.

More intuitive interface that's easier to use - NICE START.

What's missing:

Right click > mount iso > boot computer from CD once option (all one option)

Switch visualization - put Cisco vSwitch inside please or something with a CLI and 802.1x support

Linux support issues:

My experiences (hours of tooling) gave me errors galore. I cannot even get 10.04 server or higher to run on my system. WTH over, Linux should just work without tweaking the OS or silly mods... It works in VMware guys!!! Tell that to Balmer :)

Centos - getting ready to try, will edit later when I test it.

Machine creation wizardry:

Where is it?

Reply:

Personally, I have installed Ubuntu, Fedora, and CentOS without problems.  In fact I was pleasantly surprised that my mouse and keyboard worked without effort.

In regards to the Linux ICs, they are not fully up to date for Win8 and there is more happening there.  I admit, I didn't try those.

Machine Creation wizardry??  I am not sure what you mean, can you elaborate?

Who likes or even LOVES Windows 8 like I do?

There have been many topics on what people don't like about W8 and I want to know what people like or even love about it.

I'll start by saying I'm loving all the changes I've seen so far. I will say that at first the changes to the start menu to the start screen were at best jarring. Yes I still look to the bottom left for my good old start button. I'm actually glad it's gone because in the DP I clicked it by habit a freakin million times.

The most controversial change is one I really like. I love the new Metro start screen. I really dig the faster boot times. It's a great demo able feature when people want to see my tablet.

I really like being able to log into my desktop, laptop and tablet all using my Live ID. This is one really awesome feature. Just log in and BOOM my email is setup. I hit "Live.com" and boom I'm logged in. Which is interesting but I'm thinking I'll just stick with Chrome. Still not convinced that IE 10 is going to be worth anything. I've never been an IE fan.

That's it for now but I'm interesting in seeing what people are liking.

Thanks,

In short I like Windows 8, and have many suggestions for slight tweaks, and improvements across the board. I think the fundamental approach MS are taking is the right one. They just need to refine it as much as possible before release. Metro often seems to be lacking handy options, in a variety of places.

Switcher also feels underdeveloped, especially for mouse users. It needs app icons, tooltips, and peeking (like aero peek on taskbar thumbnails)

I think the hot corners shouldn't deactivate as easily. The corners seems slightly tricky on multi-monitor mode (I'm getting use to it personally), but I still think they could be tweaked, for easier activation.

Internet Explorer Metro could benefit from peeking, when hovering over page thumbnails.

It would also be awesome if they could implement, metro apps on second monitor. As it is I'm not going to snap metro apps, to my primary monitor, even though it's a cool system - very dissapointing.

LOL, I think you missed the point of this thread. I want to know what you LIKE about W8. They're plenty of threads out there about what people don't like.

So, you are saying the one single compelling thing that makes you LOVE it is that you can stay logged into MS-Live 100% of the time?

Hmmmph.

I'm glad I can still turn my cellphone off, for that very reason.

No, I like and love many other features. This is one of the new features that I really like. I could write a book on all the things I like but I don't think that's necessary. Do you?

What's not to like? :)

  • I like that it's proving to be quite stable, even in a beta version!  One measure of its efficacy is that it can do at least what its predecessor could do, and so far (outside of UI/usability issues) I find that to be the case.

  • I also like that while it's clear a lot of work is going into making Metro versions of things (e.g., control panel functions), the desktop versions are being retained as well.  I hope Microsoft stays that course.

  • I like that even though they've removed the ability to set desktop metrics, importing the Aero settings portion of the registry as saved from a Windows 7 system still works to minimize chrome.

Hm....  It occurred to me that my likes seem to be taking the form "it's not worse than Windows 7 in this area".  Hmmm...

Wait, I did think of a few more:

  • I like that they've fixed some bugs in Explorer (which I've learned to avoid anyway).

  • And I like that it seems incrementally more efficient than Windows 7 at doing the same things (e.g., there are fewer processes running, basic memory footprint is smaller).

  • The speed graph during file copies is a fun novelty.

I don't find being logged into MS-Live 100% of the time is exactly compelling.

Hey plonk, did you know that if you follow the right links you can set up a "local" account during installation?

Looking for Opinion - SCCM2007 OSD Domain join - always performed offline or not?

Hey Guys,

I've been going through logs of successful and unsuccessful domain joins in a client environment during OSD,

I've observed the process for a while after i had an un-successful domain join,

and i noticed a rather pecular behaviour, allow me to explain what i think is the process of domain join during OSD,

ENV details: windows 7, SCCM 2007 R3, No MDT

Main Milestones (IMO):

1) Capture Settings - settings to be used during milestone 2

2) Apply Network Settings - this step is running under PE (like everything until the step "setup windows and configmgr") and running this after "s.w.a.cfgmgr" is useless

4) "c:\Windows\Panther\" - status message sent during milestone 2 - stating no adapters found, remember we are still in PE and that an unattend.xml will be created, IMO this will happen everytime, because when it runs the computer is realy just in minint (winPE) mode it's the computer that we installed up till now, no matter how many driver packages you apply, the xml is saved there.

Applying a driver package merely copies the .inf related files to the driver store to be used in the OOBE and Sysprepping processes that follow milestone 5

5)"setup windows and configmgr" - the most important step, without this there is no operating system being finalized, this step's commits configurations that will be used after it finishes and then run Sysprep and OOBE process unattended.

6) making unattend.xml is used for what happens next - the restart of the computer to the installed OS that occurs after "setup windows and configmgr" when that installed OS is finally breathing for the first time.

7) the logs that are found in "c:\Windows\Panther\UnattendGC\setupact.log" clearly show that domain join is occurring there and at that time, if domain join will not succeed in that step, you will not see anything logged to "C:\Windows\Debug\NetSetup.log"

none the less if the correct network drivers will not be in driver store when OOBE and SysPrep runs it will not have network card to join domain with.

What do you guys think about my theory?

Reply:

Sort of close.

Capture settings grab settings from a current system and stores them in task sequence variables.

Apply Network Settings uses the statically configured data or task sequence variables to update unattend.xml

Setup Windows and ConfigMgr runs Windows setup (mini-setup for deployment TSes) and then immediatey runs the ConfigMgr client agent setup. Windows setup (or mini-setup) uses the unattend.xml file to join the domain (among other things).

You are correct on the logs.

Note that sysprep is the process that runs to prepare the system for imaging, it is not part of Windows setup in any way. What you are probably refering to is mini-setup which is the abbreviated setup run on systems that have been syspreped.

Also, from your title, not sure what you mean by offline or online domain join? An offline domain join is a formal concept in Windows that requires prestaging on the network. I've never seen anyone do this during OSD.

Well, if you look in the netsetup.log under C:\Windows\Debug following a succesful domain join you can see that it is being considered as offline domain join,

That's just a reflection of the API names being used because an online domain join uses some of the same underlying APIs as an offline join. An offline domain join however is a formal concept that is not used during OSD: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/offline-domain-join-djoin-step-by-step(v=WS.10).aspx.

As for your theory that you need network connectivity during OSD to successfully join the domain, yes, this is fact. And of course, connectivity implies having the correct network drivers.

As a follow up to the question regarding the domain join step used by OSD, i know this information is written to the unattend xml file and this is processed but can you describe the exact procedure around the join itself.

We have a task sequence that specifies what OU the object should join to but if the object already exists as in has the same name as the OSDComputerName that we have set, then the object does not move to the OU specified in the Task sequence but remains in its existing OU. The log reports

Additionally I can also import a new object in SCCM with complete different hardware and set the OSDComputername to an existing name that exists in the AD domain(I know this creates its own problems in SCCM) however the computer joins the domain and am able to log onto both computers without any issues even after several reboots. If I look on the Computer object with ADSI edit I can see the Sid has not been modified but the Usn attributes for created and when changed  are visible at the time of the domain join/modification of the second object.

Windows setup is responsible for doing the domain join. None of this has anything to do with ConfigMgr.

The first behavior you describe is essentially working as designed -- Windows setup does not move objects. If you desire this behavior, you'll need to move the object separetely from the domain join.

The second behavior is acceptable also if the account you've supplied has permissions to do this which in your case it must.

Installation Bug in 2 disk scenario

On my laptop (Fujitsu Lifebook T900 with Kingston SSD V200 as boot disk and a Samsung 1 TB disk as secondary drive in the DVD slot) I found following situation:

Resized the volume on the Windows SSD to make room for another volume to test W8.
Booted from thumbdrive into Win8 setup and selected the free space as target.
Setup went through, but still the old Windows 7 boot loader was shown and booted.

Reason:

The new boot loader has been stored on the secondary disk.

If I selected this from Bios boot menu as target disk I got the boot menu, but the system did stuck during boot process of W8 on an empty background screen. (maybe result of first attempted repair?)

Finally I had to remove the secondary disk, install Windows 8 again and add the secondary drive later.

Best greetings from Germany
Olaf

Interesting, let me see if I can reproduce this bug. Could you give a bit more detail as to how your disks were partitioned and which partition you selected. I would like my test scenario to be as close to yours as possible. Also which version of Win8 were you using, consumer preview or one of the server versions?

Edit: I am asking because I installed Windows 8 Server Beta on a 3 disk system without any issues, it updated the correct bootloader and installed on the correct disk.

Olaf;

I'd be interested in knowing some steps as well so we can see if this reproduces internally.  I've done a couple of three/four disk installs and haven't seen this behavior yet so if it is happening in a deterministic way, I'd like to see why.

Thanks!

Here the information from diskpart and msinfo32 (both run within the Windows 8 customer preview, which is now installed on the laptop (German version):

Datentraeger 0 (disk 0) is the SSD, containing the system partition, the Windows 7 partition (E), which had been resized for Windows 8 CP and C (which is the volume created during the first installation attempt).

Disk 1 is the harddisk containing only one volume for data only. In earlier times it was used for OS in the disk slot of the laptop, but now is put into a mount kit in the DVD slot. I did clone the OS volume from this disk to the SSD in the past using Acronis software delivered with the SSD just in case this plays a role.

error 0x000000f PXE using SCCM with WDS

This week we got a problem related to PXE boot on SCCM 2007. The error code was 0x000000f related to BCDBoot.

Our scenario is: Vmware servers, Cisco devices and also our DHCP, and SIP telephony.

Due to the SIP we had to use different DHCP options. Instead of "066" and "067" options we had to use the option "150" (next server) and "bootfile" to configure the dhcp in a way that the clients could locate de WDS-SCCM Servers.

For the virtual servers with VMWare we had to unblock UDP and TFTP filters on the firewall. We could notice some messagens with network monitor when the problem was happening:

"tftp: read request - file: \boot\fonts\wgl4_boot.ttf" and after that "error - errorcode: 1, errormessage: the specified file was not found".

"tftp: read reques - file: \boot\bcd" and after that "error - errorcode: 1, errormessage: the specified file was not found".

When we fix the problem the messagens on network monitor got different:

tftp: read request - file: \boot\fonts\wgl4_boot.ttf" and after that "error - errorcode: 1, errormessage: the specified file was not found".

"tftp: read reques - file: \smstemp\<Date>.<GUID>.boot.bcd" and after that "Option acknowledgement".

Hope this could help someone.

[Change Request] Please change SPACE button behavior in Metro

it's simple to repro.

In your Metro, try to press SPACE for two times. Yes, you remove a ICON.

If you press SPACE for several times, you will get a blank Start Screen.

Reply:
Woah that's bad. Just keep pressing space and you would clear your start menu.

Thanks,

I think you should rename your post to "Pressing space over and over removes icons". Your post is very important and I feel the title isn't getting teh point across! I think this post needs to be seen.

Over the decades of my cumputing experience, I've probably heard the key-buffer full tone ringing out at least 100 times.  Yep, somebody left a book or whatever who's edge was pressing a key.  Being the biggest key, Space is a common one of course.

Trouble is, key-buffer full only starts ringing after keys can no longer be processed.  In this case, I presume that's not until each and every icon has been flushed.

While Metro isn't for me, this is of game changing importance, so I too recommend you not only try to rename the thread subject, but cross-post it in ALL of the Win8ITPro forums, and it should be made sticky by the moderators, and fix put in place very much sooner rather than later.

Wow.

Good catch.
