Application stays minimized in the taskbar
I have an installation of Windows Vista Home premium 64bit SP1 on my home computer and I've recognized following problem: some applications after start remain minimized in the taskbar and can be closed only. The application window cannot be maximized and does not appear if I click on the taskbar application button. It is strange, because some applications (the majority) don't have this behaviour and work properly, but some of them behave like this and don't display its windows. If I run mouse cursor over the taskbar button, an icon with window preview appears (and in this view can be seen that the application works), but I don't have the possibility to show the application window.
Have anyone recognized similar problem and does anyone know how to fix it ?
Many thanks in advance for your replies.
So if you have not done so, enable Quick Launch in the task bar and I prefer not to use the Taskbar Previews thing (its useless and totally pointless for me).
Another trick when a window wont maximize is to right click it on the task bar and do Restore rather than Maximize (sometimes that works)

Hi,
If the issue does not occur on all of the program icons on the Notification Area, maybe the problematic programs are corrupt, or not compatible. Another possibility is that they are blocked by some programs. In this case, I suggest that you disable the anti-virus. If the issue still occurs, reinstall the problematic programs. If the If the issue persists after you reinstall them, the problematic programs are not corrupt with Windows Vista 64bit systems. I suggest that you contact the publisher or related forum to confirm this situation.

Hi davesil !
i have a come across the same problem in one of my application, where the application gets minimized in the taskbar and not getting opened(maximized).
The solution for this is very simple, try this out.
1) Right click the application which is minimized.
2) select the "minimize" option in the list.
3) Now select the "maximize" option in the list.
4) Here the application will open(maximize)...
If your problem solved intimate me please.

What if the right click option is disabled through group policy. I am having a similar issue where right click is disabled in group policy and users cannot right click to restore it or maximize the option. So, right click does not work. The application is launched through Citrix and it is a published web application. Once the user launches the application and when they are working on the application and have to minimize it to get to other applications as they don't use Alt + Tab. So, when they want to get back to the application, it would not maximize.
This looks more like and IE issue that is with 7 and 8 and am not sure about other versions. The operating system is Windows XP.
If anyone has any solutions would appreciate or have had similar problems and have resolved it let us know.
thank you in advance

Same problem here. Currently this is affecting only 1 program. Its the first time I've tried to open it since I upgraded to Win 8. The vendor site indicates Win 8 compatible.
Icon appears active but clicking on it in task bar opens program a second time - also minimized.
Right clicking only gives option to Close program.
I'm logged in as administrator and this is a locally installed program.

I had a similar problem on Windows 7 and the following solution worked
- Press SHIFT+CTRL
- Right Click on the Program showing up in the taskbar.
- Select the "Move" Window option
- Use the keyboard (Left Arrow/Right Arrow) <-/ -> keys to move the window to the center of the screen.
- Try holding down the left arrow key for a while to see the Window outline. Try moving right/up/down if the window outline is still not visible.
- Hit enter when you can see the Window outline move to the center of the screen.
It appears that the desktop extends beyond the Screen Display and the program window seems hidden. Moving the Window either to the Left / Right / Top/ Bottom of the screen helps.

I do not if it will work for you but when I get problems where all the windows are minimized and none maximize, I have clicked on the Desktop icon in the Quick Launch, and then I can click on the running applications in the task bar to maximize as they should.this worked for me

I have Windows 10 running with dual monitors. Recently added a third monitor on the VGA port to use with a switched keyboard. Chased same problem of windows which wouldn't maximize from the taskbar until tonight. Didn't realize that the video card was now calling my prime monitor #2. Removed the VGA connection and all went back to normal. Thanks this is exactly my problem I have a monitor on the DVI port and my tv on the HDMI one. Unpluggued the tv and everything came in order. One question How do you manage to get both. Thanks

I had this problem with Visual Studio Community 2019. Move did the magic. I had started VS on an second monitor and VS was displaying on the laptop screen that was closed. Move allowed me to move it from the first screen (the laptop screen which I was not viewing) to the second one. Thanks!

Diskpart set id command not working
I am attempting to use "set id=84 override" to recreate a hidden hibernation partition. I select the disk, then partition then type set id=84 override but then I get a message stating "The specified type is not in the correct format."
Per the Intel Rapid Start documentation this is the correct command. What can I do to correct this.
For GPT I believe it is:
set id=D3BFE2DE-3DAF-11DF-BA40-E3A556D89593

That did work to get the Intel Rapid start technology working but the partition is still showing in the Windows 8 Disk Management system. Is it possible to hide that partition from Disk Management?

wholly, wHolly, wHOLLLLLLY cRAPPPPP!!!!!!!!!!!, i've been working non-stop for 3 STRAIGHT DAYS trying to restore the SSD drive: ExpressCache/Intel Rapid Start Technology on my Lenovo U310 after deleting all partitions and re-installing Windows 8... i've contacted Lenovo, SanDisk, I even went out and bought a 2nd (the same)laptop for reference.. I haven't had ANY LUCK until I input this 'set id'... THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you want to see the drive to be labeled as "hibernation partition" in disk management you have to change from gpt to mbr mode.
When you type list disk in DISKPART prompt and see a star on the GPT column of your required disk then its in GPT mode.
To change that you need to follow these steps.
First open cmd.exe and type in "disk part"
At the DISKPART> prompt, type the following commands, in the order shown:
DISKPART>list disk
DISKPART>select disk X
(X is the disk number where you want to create the store partition. Refer to results from "list disk"
for exact disk number. Disk must be an SSD)
DISKPART>clean
DISKPART>create partition primary size=8190
DISKPART>detail disk
DISKPART> select Volume Z
(Z is Volume of your store partition. Refer to results from "detail disk" for exact volume number)
DISKPART>set id=84 override
(The id must be set to 84)
Hope this helps. It me know if problem still persists

I'm learning BCD the hard way and operating on intuition (having been fixing bootloaders since DOS 3.0), but I see "resumeobject" entries and what I think would be example counterparts at https://blog.fpmurphy.com/2016/06/uefi-based-windows-10-platform-failure-to-boot-due-to-bcd-error.html
See point 3.7 "Winresume.exe loads memory dump from hiberfil.sys and transfers control to it." This is the LAST step so we should have lots of options in terms of addressing other drives/volumes/partitions/filenames. https://www.prime-expert.com/articles/b18/fix-0xC0000098-windows-bcd-does-not-contain-valid-os-entry/
Here's my last gem. I can't quite get things workinhere here, but I'm confident this brings all the tools together, we just have to use them for our goal: https://www.codeproject.com/Articles/833655/Modify-Windows-BCD-using-Powershell
After I've read this enough, I WILL figure it out, but someone who knows BCD better should have all they need here to tell the rest of us how to use PowerShell to modify BCD to add/edit a "Resume from Hibernate".device and/or path properties AND update the "Windows Boot Manager".resumeobject property. Then we do `powercfg /h off`, reboot and turn it back on. I expect to then see the hiberfil appear in the intended location. I'm also deficient in PowerShell which further slows me down.
Who's going to be our hero and build a nice little PS script? :)
