Reports for newly Added MP's not showing on reports

Hi i have a problem with SCOM 2012 R2 reporting , I newly added MP's and report view shows some of them , and others not showing, i chechk data warehouse synchronization service status , it shows healthy, I posted pictures , and highlighted new MP's

Lync Synthetic Monitoring from User End

Hello Experts,

I have a task to accomplish performance monitoring of Lync 2013. The idea is I do not want server perf where is Lync is installed or through Watcher Nodes.

I would like to capture the User Lync Use experience using synthetic monitoring. The connectivity time , network issues, lagging etc etc.

Any wild ideas to accomplish this is most welcome. [ I need only the wild ideas :)]

msdmpump.dll crash in IIS

This is not a question. I am posting this in case others run into the same issue.

Scenario: stand alone web server, exposed to the internet, that we want to allow access to a SQL Server Analysis Services server behind a firewall.

Followed installation procedure for MSMDPUMP.DLL (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg492140.aspx)

Additional steps;

1. Configured SSL cert for https and IIS binding to port 443 with the cert.

2. Port 2383 opened on the firewall between web server and SSAS server (for default SSAS instance)

3. Configured SPN's for http on the web server

4. Configured SPN's for MSOLAPSvc.3 on the SSAS server

5. Ensured I had the 64 bit version of the MSMDPUMP.DLL, since the web server was running a 64 bit OS.

Testing access with Excel, I got a bunch of strange error messages (account did not have access - sorry didn't keep them). IIS log looked clean. Diggin deeper, I found the following error in the Application Event log for every attempt to connect;

Error 5 Looked like an access denied, which had me chasing my tail for a while.

Solution:

On a stand alone web server (i.e. one without any bits of SQL Server installed), you need to install the Analysis Services drivers (I installed both Microsoft® SQL Server® 2012 ADOMD.NET and Microsoft® Analysis Services OLE DB Provider for Microsoft® SQL Server® 2012 from the SQL 2012 Feature Pack (http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=29065) and MSXML 6 (http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=3988).

1. I think you need a certificate, even if it is not required, you really want to encrypt the channel, since credentials are flowing over it.

3 & 4. SPN = Service Principal Name for Kerberos authentication - check out https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms191153.aspx for more information - or do a search for SPN and SQLServer.

Zero divide by Zero shows as -100 in sales growth 'SSRS Report'

Hello Everyone,

I have a question on calculating the percentage of sales growth. I have used following expression

=((iif( (Fields!INVPrevYear.Value)=0 or (Fields!INVPrevYear.Value) is nothing,nothing,
(Fields!INVSUM.Value) /
iif((Fields!INVPrevYear.Value)=0 or (Fields!INVPrevYear.Value) is nothing,0,(Fields!INVPrevYear.Value))))-1)
*100

Formula for sales growth is (((Fields!INVSUM.Value) /(Fields!INVPrevYear.Value)) -1) *100

when (Fields!INVSUM.Value) =0 then result is coming correct i.e -100 but in Zero divide by Zero scenario also shows as -100. It should display as zero.

Please help me out guys. Its very urgent.

Script to check registry for server build QA

Hi All

Any ideas on how I can put together a script to QA a server build for such things as SNMP, regional settings, SEP version, SCCM client version, etc. It will be a log list of things to check and my thoughts are to check the registry for settings.

Should I use a hash table/ array? I need to make it super quick because it could be we check hundreds of servers at the same time and I would like to generate a html report as output which highlights settings or software versions which do not match a CSV file, for example.

Using Power Query annoying

I loaded a ton of data in with power query. When I want to change the format, for example, it makes me go back to power query and it takes forever to reload data for one change. If it were in a data table it would take two seconds. This is dumb and sort of negates usefullness of power query.

In the data table, it still has a ton of data? Do you change data type in Power Query, right?

Power Query will help transform your data into a format that is ready for pivot tables, reports, and so much more. It makes common data tasks easy. For example, unpivot data for pivot tables, combine tables, create custom function and so on. Power query is free add-in from excel. You can operate your date in excel if there is a small amount data.

Hi Angela. Yes, but what I'm saying is that AFTER I load the data from power query into power pivot any tweak on the data requires me to go back into power query AND then wait for everything to upload and refresh which takes a VERY long time because I have millions of rows.

As I tested, there is no need to upload everything when I make changes on PowerPivot window. From what I know, taking long time is not caused by Power Query, because the number of data is large. For what you said: it were in a data table it would take two seconds. The data used also have millions of rows?

Hi Imke. I read the article but not sure I understand it. Let me give more background.

I can take HUGE CSV files and upload them into power pivot directly. If I want to change, let's say the format of a column, it takes 1 second. HOWEVER, if I use power query to grab from a database (or a CSV file) I have to change the format in power query. Then when I want to refresh it to power pivot it takes like 5 minutes to load.

How does the filter you mention help with this?

Sorry, this doesn't work with csv - only with queries that fold back to the source.

As a workaround you could create a "design-csv-file" that has the same column layout and data structure like your original one (just copy the first rows) and either

1) rename the source-files, so that the query now references the short one, as long as you're designing your query or

2) change the source of your query as long as you are in design-mode to the name of the short csv

KB3185330 Times out running cleanupintlcache.exe

Hello,

I tried installing KB3185330 several times on one of our servers and each time after the reboot it would fail and attempt to roll back.

The section causing the problem was running cleanupintlcache.exe and the CBS.log showed it was failing to complete in the 'allowed' 15 minutes.

The root cause of the problem was the number of user profiles on the box (a citrx gateway) as it had over 3000 user profiles on it. After deleting most of the profiles and trying the patch install again it went on fine and finished the post reboot section within a couple of minutes.

I hope this info helps anyone experiencing the same problem.

We're were having that issue with other WSUS KB's as well. Cleanupintlcache.exe was causing update failures on reboot, but only on systems with a very large number of user profiles.

Does anyone here have any suggestions on how to monitor an F5 LTM? I know commtrade has a MP that you can purchase, but that's not going to fly in my environment. I do basic icmp monitoring, but SCOM 2012 r2 doesn't look like is has built-in capabilities for F5 snmp.

PS script to make a box of random, colorful characters

The size of the box will be 80 x 25, and each character will have its own background and text color. All 255 characters will be used.

Won't work in ISE.

You need to paste it into a CLI session.

Start by learning how to use PowerShell and the differences between ISE and CLI.

Given a month or two you will be able to write this yourself.

Pasted into CLI, it gives all the letters A-P with the backgrounds in order 0-15 and foregrounds in reverse order

I know CLI means command line interface, ISE means integrated scripting environment

Why I want to learn to use Powershell and make commands myself is that I experimented with lots of commands other people made back in 2014, and they all look kinda cool, and even tried out some PS programs, so I want to try to make some of my own. I am trying to make this box of random characters not a command, but a program that shows it after double clicking it.

Before the random characters program starts, I could put 4 options before it:
1. Gray or default color only
2. Only random color each character
3. Random color each character and its background
4. Custom (choose which colors for the text and/or background)
To select a choice, enter a number then press enter. If Custom selected, then it'll bring an options menu to choose the colors for the text and background before the payload starts

With the changing of some numbers, I was able to get what I want. But there's a black line after every few rows...

Also, before starting command, put chcp 1252 to get a bigger variety of characters first. CP 437 gives a bunch of question marks for unknown characters.

So far, it displays 224 of the 255 characters, just not the shapes like the music note, card suits, etc (control characters).

Thinking about experimenting with other things. What if I want it to run just as a program that can be double clicked, and the characters appear on random spaces instead of in a line? The box would also have no scroller, just an 80 x 25 CMD-like box

You will have to use a compiled program to do that.

You can also use a borderless form but for that you will have to learn both PowerShell and Windows forms.

Admin account enable after deployment

I captured image of reference computer. I checked before capture admin account is disabled and local admin is enabled. I created task sequence and deployed it on physical machine. on physical machine both admin and my local admin account are enabled.

Is there anything I am missing so that my admin account remains disabled and after deployment it goes directly to local admin.

I one of my recent post, I rose the fact that the profile view gived us only few informations about our activity.

I would like to suggest a few more things that, I think, would be appreciated from the community.

Ability to have the list activities for at least the last 30 days, instead of, I think is 100 or 200 items.
Ability to see only our ANSWERED threads notifications, so we could track more efficiently our record. Now we only get the total.
Ability to have more relevant filters in activity list
Explain how the Top Answerers for Last 30 days works, how stats are compiled, etc.

Please post your comments or suggestions, so we can all benefits new features from this new interface.

The activity tab in our profile shows the last 100 activities. For some active participants that means only a few days, or even hours.

Long ago we had a way to query forum threads for things like answered threads where we participated. That stopped working years ago.

1511 > 1602/1606 Offline update - Not going so well.

Hi everyone,

I'm running SCCM 1511 trying to upgrade to 1602 or 1606 but have had some issues. I've had to do an offline update using the serviceconnectiontool method but I hadn't realized all the update packs hadn't downloaded completely and I've imported them into CM. Upgrading to 1602 is failing. I haven't been game enough to try 1606 yet

I have the complete update packs now, but running the import method again hasn't changed anything - I saw the import copied the .cabs and folders to the easysetuppayload/offline folder.

looking at the cmupdate log, it's comparing the CMUstaging folder to the hash in sccmcontentlib which must be incorrect and recreating folders in the CMUstaging directory with the incorrect files.

getting the following errors:

ERROR: File hash check failed for C:\Program Files\Microsoft Configuration Manager\CMUStaging\609F1263-04E0-49A8-940B-09E0E34DE2D2\SMSSetup\Client\x64\wic_x64_enu.exe

ERROR: File hash check failed for C:\Program Files\Microsoft Configuration Manager\CMUStaging\609F1263-04E0-49A8-940B-09E0E34DE2D2\SMSSetup\Client\x64\msrdcoob_amd64.exe

INFO: Failed to check if file C:\Program Files\Microsoft Configuration Manager\inboxes\sitecomp.box\shutdown.trn exists (LastError=2). No zapping is done.

Failed to apply update changes 0x80004005 CONFIGURATION_MANAGER_UPDATE 20/11/2016 3:01:38 PM 1152 (0x0480)

There was about 4GB difference in size between the incorrect update packs and the complete ones.

It looks like that is not holding me up anymore. I can see that the content library has an updated source version of the easy setup payload package.

I have run DELETE FROM CM_ED0.dbo.CM_UpdatePackages WHERE PackageGuid = '037CD17E-4D7B-40E1-802B-14BB682364C7' OR PackageGuid = '609F1263-04E0-49A8-940B-09E0E34DE2D2'; which I saw in another TechNet post because I just could not make the "checking perquisites" status disappear.

After doing that the updates appear installable in the console but now if I install or run the prerequisite check no changes are detected in the cmupdate.box according to cmupdate.log and the configmgrprereq.log is not reflecting any changes.

RDP to window server 2012 R2 Slow

Hi All,

I use RDP to access server 2012 R2 but it is slow, Ram and CPU were use at maximum level some time.

Does this cause the problem of slowness ?A

Anyone can recommend solution related to RDP .

Yup, server won't respond quickly if its busy on CPU and using a lot of memory. Wait for it to calm down and try again to test your connection experience.

Hi Naina,

Is the mails are not getting received on outlook client/application? If yes, kindly check the mails on OWA(outlook web access) first. If mails are appeared there it means there is a syncing issue.

Try to repair the outlook profile.

If this is not the case, then request you to provide more details on this with current scenario & setup.

Bootable USB drive with DiskPart

I know that there must be a powershell script or some kind of script to create a Hirens type of program that you can make a bootable USB with Diskpart loaded on it and not only that but preset so that instead of typing the options it will already have them preloaded into it. I can see that all this would be easy if you just made the script for diskpart but to load that into a bootable usb is the part I need to know. Well I actucally would like to know all of it but my knowledge of Powershell scripting is very limited and not expansive enough to create this task. If any of you know how to do this or an idea please share.

By the way, I understand that the very premise of such a device sounds sketchy but the reason I want this is because in my workplace we work with way too many computers and not enough time to erase them all to be surplused so that they can be sold or thrown away if no longer working, we would like a faster solution than using Hirens or other software that will take too long to erase the data off the hard drives. Thank you for your time!

Can't answer your question directly, but afaik there is no way to remove data from a magnetic drive so it can't be read by the bad guys if they try hard enough. A couple of things that might work, but untested by me are target practice or one of those junk yard magnetic cranes they use to move cars around. Actually you can find smaller electro magnets on the net, most were designed to bulk erase magnetic tapes.

Also consider an appliance that accepts several drives at one time and erases them all in one go.

Now, as for a bootable USB disk with Windows or with a different OS that should be easy. The net is full of such programs. Once you have that, a batch file in the start sequence to run the disk eraser of your choice should not be too hard to work out.

make a text file named diskpart.txt

in it put

clean all

then you run DISKPART /s diskpart.txt

Then build your bootdisk with the startnet.cmd

if the machine is running you could just use advanced shutdown options and boot to a command prompt for diskpart. If the drives were removed you could use a usb caddy. But if you have a pile of whole computers the above to make a thumb drive may be best

You know that using Diskpart would be very complex and once you operate it wrong, it will make a big mistake that you cannot rescue it. For make a bootable USB, my suggestion is to find a third party software to do it easily, like AOMEI Partition Assistant, which can not only help you erase the data off the hard drives, but also make a bootable USB.
