Hello,

The Windows Desktop Perfmon and Diagnostic tools forum is to discuss performance monitor (perfmon), resource monitor (resmon), and task manager, focusing on HOW-TO, Errors/Problems, and usage scenarios.

Since your post is off-topic, I am moving it to the off topic forum.

I'd suggest searching Microsoft's Arabic forums, or posting in English.

If you have any USB thumb drive attached to your system then unplug that.

Back up all your data and run the following command via elevated Command Prompt:

CHKDSK X: /F and replace the X: with the drive letter you wish to scan.

Create mailbox and settings checking entire environment- delay because of cmdlet Extension agent (Hosted exchange)

Hello,
we have one problem that is uncommon but its slowing our business as we grow.

We are developing exchange hosted on 2013 and process is quite slow, but it is slow because it is "verifying" all the environmental details like which address lists exists.

example when i run in verbose mode creation of user looks like this and verifying all the GALs and address lists:

Keep in mind that it is creation of single user only, so its just too much.

So, the question here is- is this possible to avoid?

I see some article about https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd297998%28v=exchg.141%29.aspx disabling cmdlet script agent, so it may be relevant?

Which agent can be related to this checks as we have scenario like this:

PS C:\Windows\system32> Get-CmdletExtensionAgent | Format-Table Name, Enabled, Priority

Name                                                                            Enabled                                    Priority
----                                                                            -------                                    --------
Admin Audit Log Agent                                                              True                                         255
Query Base DN Agent                                                                True                                           1
Rus Agent                                                                          True                                           2
Mailbox Resources Management Agent                                                 True                                           3
Provisioning Policy Agent                                                          True                                           4
OAB Resources Management Agent                                                     True                                           5
Scripting Agent                                                                   False                                           6
Mailbox Creation Time Agent                                                        True                                           0

Maybe someone can give a hint what should be disabled :)?

My answer:

You need a faster server!.

Its talking about 'Scripting Agent'  which is already disabled by default. Hence nothing for you to disable here.  All these verification details are necessary for Exchange to function correctly.

Unable to locate/recover a deleted mailbox from Exchange 2013

Apx 2 months ago an employee left our company and the AD account was disabled.

In Exchange 2013 ECP, the mailbox was granted Full Access to the users supervisor, for cleanup and eventual archiving.

Yesterday, a mistake was made and the disabled user account was deleted from Active Directory.

Today ldp.exe was used to recover the Ad account from the recycle bin.

The Exchange mailbox can not be found today and I would have expected to have 30 days to recover it:

[PS] C:\>Get-MailboxDatabase | Get-MailboxStatistics | Where {$_.DisconnectReason -eq "Disabled"} | fl DisplayName,Mailb
oxGuid,LegacyDN,Database | Out-File c:\temp\2015_Disabled.txt

Connect or restore a deleted mailbox
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj863438(v=exchg.150).aspx
The mailbox is retained until the deleted mailbox retention period expires, which is 30 days by default,
and then it's permanently deleted (or purged) from the mailbox database.

I am guessing that since the user was disabled in AD apx 60 days ago, that when the user account was deleted yesterday, the mailbox was permanently removed.

Would anyone be able to confirm that the typical 30 day retention of a deleted mailbox, is not applicable when the user account was disabled 60 days ago?

Many thanks for your advice.

Reply:

Hi,

Disabling an AD account is different from disabling a mailbox. When you disable an AD account, the mailbox is not deleted and is still connected to the AD account. If the mailbox was disabled then this means the mailbox was disconnected from the AD account and will be marked for deletion according to the default mailbox retention policy which is 30 days by default: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb232039(v=exchg.150).aspx.

To answer your question, if only the AD account was disabled, you should be able to enable the account and the user should be able to access their mailbox. If the mailbox was disabled and more than 30 days have passed (by default) then you'll need to restore the mailbox from backup and then the instructions then depend on your backup solution. If you need to use the recovery database approach then see here:

https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee332351(v=exchg.150).aspx

This should answer your question. Let me know if you need any further assistance.

Thanks.

Agree again with Mark,

There is a difference between disabling AD account and mailbox. In your case I guess you disabled mailbox (from ECP or Exchange powershell), then 30 days rule applies.

If disabled from AD, then mailbox is intact.

Our company have disabled users in AD for almost a year and their mailbox is still available if we enable ad account and login to their mailbox.

So restoring from a backup is your last solution I would guess.

I have a wiki as well to recover mailbox from backup database: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/29986.recover-mailbox-from-edb-file-to-existing-mailbox-or-export-to-pst-file.aspx

Unless there is some additional action not provided, Yes the mailbox should be intact within the EDB. you can make an offline copy and use the RDB method to recover or if you want a GUI to check for the existence of the MB within an offline copy of the EDB you can get a DEMO license for our DigiScope product

Search, Recover, & Extract Mailboxes, Folders, & Email Items from Offline Exchange Mailbox and Public Folder EDB's and Live Exchange Servers or Import/Migrate direct from Offline EDB to Any Production Exchange Server, even cross version i.e. 2003 --> 2007 --> 2010 --> 2013 with Lucid8's DigiScope

Hi,

If you're using Hyper-V or VMware then Veeam is a good backup tool which can restore individual mailbox items and individual mailboxes.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

SCOM Alert Time

Hi,

I'm getting SCOM alert which consist of TimeSampled and other information. But when I look at value of TimeSampled, I am not able to make sense of all parts of DateTime. Apart from "0000000-04:00" other part of DateTime is quite self explainatory. Please help me understanding each part of TimeSampled value.

TimeSampled: 2015-09-21T02:04:48.0000000-04:00

ObjectName: MSExchange Message Tracking

CounterName: Percentage of MessageTrackingReport operations (via task) completed with errors

Value: 2

SampleValue: 50

Need to change that hideous baby blue color urgent before my eyes burn

I'm running Win 7 64 bit RC and I will be running the Home Premium version once I receive it in a few weeks. As usual, Microsoft seems to have their GUI team divided between people with good taste and people with the most horrible taste. For example, the Windows Media Center GUI is beautiful, and a few parts of the new 7 Aero interface also are, such as the ability to change the color of the taskbar and the windows' border and top, but then you have these instances all over the place where Microsoft forces you to get stuck with that puke hideous baby blue color, such as the bar in explorer windows that starts with "Organize" and the bottom details pane, not to mention all the instances of highlighted items such as files and folders.

I know there's WindowBlinds and Win7 Style Builder, but how can I change the color of the top bar and the bottom pane? I know the others are a matter of opening the style in a resource editor and replacing PNGs, but I don't know if these two items I want are in the msstyles file or the shellstyle.dll, and if they are PNGs or not.

Help, please?

Right click on an empty space on the desk top. Select Personalize, then select Window Color. It can be changed there.

BTW I like the blue and I suspect others do too. I don't know why people must be so derogatory towards others while describing what is their opinion or likes and dislikes.

------------------------------------
Reply:
That doesn't do anything for my problem. I said in my original post that I want to change the color of the top bar that starts with Organize and the details pane, which are not modifiable at all without resource hacking or 3rd party software.

And the reason I'm so derogatory is because it pisses me off to no end that Microsoft forces their horrible taste in GUI to everybody. How difficult can it be for them to allow the user to change not only the color of the window, but the other colors as well? What's more aggravating is that in the old Win 95, 98, 2000, etc classic interface you were able to change every single color of the interface, but since XP they started forcing certain colors of the interface on the user, and given that they have such terrible taste for some things, that's very annoying. If they love that baby blue so much, fine, but don't force it on me, because I despise it, and I have to use my computer several hours a day.

unfortunately I got to agree with the original poster. In my opinion, I don't like the colour, but vista's greenish colour is a lot worse. I like the blue colour that microsoft used to use in early windows 7 build

I have to agree with you.  That was one of the first things I wanted to change.  I liked the color of that bar in Vista much better (and the lines between folders on the left pane in Windows Explorer as well), but I'd prefer to be able to customize that color.  I'm sure it wouldn't be rocket science for Microsoft to make it user-customizable.  Why don't they?  I like Vista's taskbar much better as well, the new one is hideous and vague.  Seems like they wanted "change" for changes sake rather than improvement.

A bit late but there is a way without hacking too deep into the system:

get aero.msstyles (as template) from your system.
Use "Restorator 2007" or you favourite to extract IMAGE and STREAM.
Use picture editing to change them, put them back in (new filename recommended). Your editing software should be aware of .PNG with transparency, or you'll have some funny graphics.

copy to %systemroot%\Resources\<directory-your-choice>\new.msstyles
create a corresponding .theme (text-only) file in %systemroot%\Resources\

You need http://uxstyle.com/ too, or else Win7 won't accept the theme and switches to Win-classic.

Don't ask me which .PNG are the menu resources you hate, I only shifted the cyan-blue color around to something else on nearly all pictures in there in a batch job (I left out some special ones), and now no more blue.

more hints:

http://www.aeroxp.org/board/index.php?showtopic=9353 (be aware, Vista topic, most of it is correct though)

i dont really see what you have against the color; i never gave it second thought. one thing i dont understand though is why that bar isnt part of the Aero interface. it would make more sense to me to have it be like the borders of the window rather than have a complete contrast between opaque white and translucent orange in my case. if you right click on your desktop and then hit Gadgets the windows that appears is what im talking about. Logically dont make the entire window that way just the parts you dont actually use for navigating the folders.

and speaking of PNGs, they dont display properly as a desktop background. the shadings get disorted into solid colors and the white doesnt blend with the set background color. here is a picture of what happens: http://img193.imageshack.us/my.php?image=desktopvspictureviewer.png

furthermore Windows 7 has locks on all of its UI files and can use only allowable (aero glass, basic and classic) msstyles themes. im sure there is some way to hack them safely but looks to me like you stuck with the blue

hope this helps, nitrous_74

Thanks for your reply. I ended up buying Windows Style Builder because I figured it would make more sense to spend $25 than to spend hours trying to figure out which resource belongs to which GUI element. Still, it's a terrible misstep from Microsoft to not include a simple way to change a color in the GUI. For as long as I can remember Windows always had the possibility of changing any color in its GUI, I think it was possible in 3.1 and certainly in the classic GUI that started with Win 95. But since XP they started this arrogant stupid trend of setting more and more elements of the GUI in a fixed color and not a way to change it without purchasing 3rd party software and spending quite a long time working on it. Newer versions of Windows should be a progress over the older versions, and while the Aero interface has its advantages, it sucks to be stuck with a color that many despise all over the GUI. At least Mac OS X allows you to change all the blue elements to graphite. While it's also constrained, at least it's another option. If Windows would allow me to change all the baby blue elements to graphite, I wouldn't care to modify the GUI at all.

Well, it may not be hideous for you, but it is for me, and for many other people. The problem I have here is not so much against the color itself, but against Microsoft thinking that that color is wonderful and that everybody will like it. Different people like different things, and Microsoft should allow an easy way to change all of the colors in its GUI in a way that is as easy as changing the color of the window border.

Windows 2.0 too, even in Hercules monochrome you had lots of choices of either color or shading pattern for UI elements - childhood memories *g*.

Cannot tell it for Windows 1.0, but that one does not really count since it#s usability was below everything else by that time.
I only "installed" it once for curiosity reasons, about 6 or 7 years ago.

I like the graphite glass colour for the task bar but cant stand it around my windows! Errrrrr Microsoft why cant you let us set things up how we want them!!!! Screw it im setting MAC as my main partition!

I associate with ony and original posting. I updated to Windows 7 two days ago and had been trying desperatly to change the baby blue of explorer's menus and bars. I can't stand it + of course it contrasts with the "theme" I chose. MS should have given the option to choose our colors. When one work with a computer many hours a day, being continuously faced with a hated color may drives one crazy. It is surely already (2 days!!) getting on my nerves.

I just changed from Aero whe're I had everything pretty much colourless glass which was fine despite a slight annoyance of gradients and glass shine effects... now I'm faced with this blue theme aswell and would like to make a desperate plea to Microsoft to fix this overnight. I program. I know this would be a piece of cake for a piece of software that is well written to implement. I don't want to sacrifice performance just to get this in my eyes horrible colour theme out of the way.
ಥ_ಥ;; how do I worked fast?

Agree with all on awful blue.  Don't know for others, but I have NVIDIA card.  Go to those settings, adjust colours with gamma settings... I add some red, then I adjust until colour is bearable.  Keeping in mind that when working with art or photos, it will be necessary to set accurately for printing etc.  But when working in Word programs etc, I am able to get colours to something not too offensive.  And by using WIndows 7 basic scheme, can set everything else with colours and fonts I want.  It is only that truly hideous blue which is fixed.  So try adjusting through your video card.  You also may have to adjust again when watching films, baseball games or whatever.

Point is, no new software necessary, just patience and keeping in mind that you are going to make more regular colour adjustments according to task.  Boring and annoying.  But only solution I have found YET!

HTC 8x boot looping after Win 10 update from Windows Insider program

Hi,

Today I got an update notification for Windows 10 from the insider program. After about 40 minutes of installing, it shut off. Since then it's just crashing after showing the cogs for about 15 seconds. I tried doing a hard reset, but the exclamation mark never shows up. The phone just reboots when the exclamation mark should show. The Windows Phone Recovery Tool doesn't seem to be of use either. The phone is not recognized and when I follow the instructions to get into the boot loader, it still doesn't recognize it. I only get an unrecognized USB BLDR device in my Windows device manager.

Does anyone have a solution/clue for this problem? I'm seeing a bunch of people with the same problem. Would hate to have a bricked phone because of this messed up push from MS.

Check if files listed in a text file exist

Hi,

I have a text file with a list of file names (including path) each on a seperate line.

Does anyone have an existing script (or know how) to test whether each file in that list exists on the local computer, then export whether it exists or not?

Im guessing its going to use something like test-path but Im a complete newbie to powershell.

Many thanks,
