What is this folder and files doing in my Temporary folder? Is it a trojan or similar data miner?
Hi,
I have located this folder and files in my C:Temp Directory(Normally C:Windows/temp).
CompatTelemetryLogs with
AppAndDeviceInventory.log right next to it.
and the following inside the folder.
Folder = "IMG" lots of little image files of all my software
Folder = "Resources" with nothing in it.
Files:
CompatData_2014_10_17_06_04_14_1_008001ff.xml
compatscancache.dat
DeviceGroupingRules.xml
diagerr.xml
diagwrn.xml
PreliminaryReport.xml
setupact.log
setuperr.log
TelemetryTransform.xsl
WICA_Devices_SOL.xml
WICA_Programs_SOL.xml
WICA_QueryAppBlock_SOL.xml
WICA_QueryBiosBlock_SOL.xml
WICA_QueryDeviceBlock_SOL.xml
WICA_System_SOL.xml
WICA_SystemReport_SOL.xml
WICA_TelemetryReport_SOL.xml
WicaDeviceFilters.xml
Windows_TelemetryData.xml
Not sure about all of these but I did a search for this one: "TelemetryTransform.xsl" and one entry was this below(except I do not have any office program installed form MS, I use Open Office) http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj219431%28v=office.15%29.aspx
And this one: "Windows_TelemetryData.xml"

I am not attempting to install windows 8? at all so why this is coming up is beyond me I am using Win7 64 Pro and am quite happy with that version.
Is all of this just some attempt at someone to install windows 8 on my system through the comcast internet system?
I also have now searched for the file that was next to the folder: "AppAndDeviceInventory.log" and got this:
http://www.exclusive-networks.be/Vendors/mobileiron/
It looks like someone is or has installed an application to make my windows send data over the internet or network. Making my entire windows system hosed with this. Or has someone any idea of how to get rid of it?
Thanks ahead!

Hi,
These files are just some temporary file created by using the system. You could delete them manually via disk cleanup:

I get rid of this temp folder by opening it and deleting all files within it first. Then I return to the folder by clicking "back" and the folder will now delete. I've had no side effects on my Windows 7 machine.
I find this method works with most stubborn temp files; no 3rd party programs required.
Good luck!

I found out, as you may have by now, that those "telemetry" files are to do with your windows 10 reservation, good for one year. If that's the case with yours, there should be a W10 reservation icon on the bottom right of your taskbar on your desktop.
When I succeeded in deleting mine, the icon was gone. I don't remember offhand how I got my reservation back, but those "telemetry" temp files came back with it.
I expect I'll be sticking with W7 as well.

Windows 10 ISO Download
I want to make a DVD and have downloaded the Windows Tool and installed it. When I open it, it asks for location of file, presumably where the downloaded Windows 10 ISO File is on my computer. Whenever I try to search for the ISO file download, it goes straight back to the instructions relating to make a USB/DVD. Not having tried to use an ISO before, I am not sure whether I just upgrade and the make the DVD, or whether there is an ISO file to download that I cannot find. Having read various Q&A's, they do not seem to give an answer. Can someone help please.

How to disable Bitlocker Suspend and Turn Off for users?
Reply:
You can't. Administrators are administrators, we cannot govern them.
There's not even a GPO to make it harder for them to suspend or decrypt. Your only chance would be to monitor the encryption-/protection-status using tasks, but those would require network connectivity.
So what you should do is inform them that it is mandatory to leave BL as is and have them sign that. Then, use local tasks that log the status. That's the best you can do.
If you don't like that idea, you need a different encryption, one with a user hierarchy independent of windows.

Multiple Active Directory forest support in IPAM
In Windows Server 2016, IPAM will support multiple AD forest deployments. You will now be able to manage DNS and DHCP servers spanning across different Active Directory forests through a single instance of IPAM, provided they have 2-way trust relationship with the AD forest the IPAM server belongs to. IPAM provides the same set of management features for these servers irrespective of the AD forest they belong to. This will enable admins to view and manage their DDI (DNS, DHCP, IP address) infrastructure across the AD forests through a single console.

Excel Row Heights
I have a document with thousands of rows. 1-79 had rows with minimal height that essentially hid them from view. I was able to fix those rows by manually changing the height. However, now from row 79 -1001 I am missing rows and do not want to spend the time manually adjusting their heights. I have tried ctrl +A and format row height. What other ways is there to fix this problem?

Response Rate Limiting in Windows DNS Server
In Windows Server 2016, the DNS server will provide an option to enable Response Rate Limiting. Response Rate Limiting intends to prevent the abuse of Windows DNS servers for orchestrating an amplification attack. In a DNS amplification attack, the attackers forge the IP address of the victim network and send a lot of queries to the DNS servers. The traditional DNS server responds back to all the queries it receives and as a result the victim network gets a huge amount of unwanted DNS responses . The attackers can orchestrate this attack to involve multiple DNS servers all of which start sending unsolicited responses to the victim network, which chokes down on the high volume of inbound packets, slows down and eventually collapses.
Different results on the DC
Hello
I created a script and tested it from my workstation, only to find that some expected return values no longer worked when running it on the DC.
The values that come up missing are EmployeeID and EmployeeNumber (employeeType doesn't work properly either, but I am not interested in it for this script). To test, I went to Powershell and ran commands individually.
I am running as a service account, so did my testing as that service account from both my workstation and the DC. The script and the manual commands all work on the workstation and fail on the DC.
First to run in the context of the service account:
Start-Process powershell.exe -Credential "Domain\ServiceAccount"
This opens a new window where I enter the command that I am having issues with:
Get-ADUser Bob.Smith -Properties * | fl Name,Employee*
On the workstation (and on a member server), it returns:
Name : Bob Smith
EmployeeID : 123456
EmployeeNumber : 987643
EmployeeType : Employee
On the DC, it returns (NOTE - employeeType doesn't return at all):
Name : Bob Smith
EmployeeID :
EmployeeNumber :
Any ideas are appreciated!
Thanks
UPDATE NOTE: I also tested on a member server and the results are the same as the workstation, so the issue appears to be isolated to the DC- Edited by Tim-KGS Friday, August 28, 2015 4:24 PM add test note

Only default properties are exposed by Get-ADUser, unless you specify others with the -Properties parameter. Both EmployeeID and EmployeeNumber are extended properties, so they must be requested with -Properties. The employeeType attribute is not a property, so it also must be requested with the -Properties parameter in order to be retrieved.
Edit: The concepts of default and extended properties, and attributes, and the -Properties parameter, are documented in this Wiki: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/12031.active-directory-powershell-ad-module-properties.aspx

Sorry, I missed that you used -Properties *. If you specify -Properties *, the Get-AD* cmdlets that support this parameter will retrieve all default and extended attributes, whether or not they have values, plus all Active Directory attributes that have values. That might explain your problems with employeeType.
The only explanation I can think of for the different results on different clients is that they retrieve from a different DC and there are replication problems.

This cannot be due to replication but may have to do with problems with one or more DCs. Perhaps the net framework is not up to date or is damaged.
What version of the running and what DC versions?

No problem. I ran the Get-ADUser command with the "-server" parameter as well and confirmed results were identical when querying all DCs.

All DC are 2012 R2 consistent (baselined) builds and up to date.
Running with the "-server" parameter against all DCs from the member server or workstation yield consistent and successful results.

If these are upgrades and not new installs then you may be missing schema updates. Did someone do a partial WS2003 to WS2012 migration.
I can think of no reason why a 2012 DC would behave this way. I just tested on a brand new 2012 AD server in anew domain. (VM) and it works exactly as above.

I just repeated this command sequence on all DCs. In every case it fails to get results.
Then I tested with the "-Server" parameter on all DCs and it works as long as you reference a DC that you are not running the script from.
Example - Run on DC-A with "-Server DC-A" fails, but with "-Server DC-B" or "-Server DC-C" works fine. Same holds true executing from B or C.
So I have a workaround, that is likely not as efficent as running on the same system the script is executing from. Not ideal, but functional.
I would still like to figure out why this is happening.
Thanks!

In all cases you are running PowerShell directly by clicking on the icon. You should not run with credentials or run elevated.
If this still does not work look at the permissions on those attributes. If nothing is out of place then you need to contact MS support to get guidance.
\_(ツ)_/
------------------------------------
Reply:
To start, that is correct. I just run powershell - no right-click options.
After that window opens though, I run "Start-Process powershell.exe -Credential "Domain\ServiceAccount" " in order to open a Powershell window as the service account to run commands. This is necessary to ensure that my script running as the service account get's the same results that testing yields.
Based on my findings in my last post, I updated my script to force it to read from a DC that the script is NOT running on and it works. Again, not ideal to query over the network instead of the host that it is running on.
------------------------------------
Reply:
Don't use alternate credentials. You need to log in as an admin and just run PowerShell and call the CmdLets.
If you are running as a service account then you will not likely have correct permissions to view all items and you don't want to make the service account a full AD admin either.
If AD is working correctly then grant the service account Access to the employee items. They are protected.
YOU may want to contact MS support to get a clearer explanation of why the difference. You can also post in the Directory Services forum for a more comprehensive explanation.

I'm using the same process to test from other servers and workstations. The service account has adequate permissions to query the objects since it works from everywhere else.
Testing a script with my credentials is not a valid test since I am not going to set up the script to use my credentials. I have a service account for this purpose intentionally so the account has permissions limited to only what it needs.
The query just won't return the extended attributes on the same DC that you run it from. It returns them for all alternate DC, and when run on a member server or workstation, it returns them when run against every DC. All using the service account.
------------------------------------
Reply:
Yes. I understand that. I still recommend posting in the Directory Services forum as this is clearly not a scripting issue. It is a behavior of using a service account which is an account with no profile or interactive user. My guess is that you need to set it to be trusted for delegation but that is a guess without a clear reason behind it.

Configuring Vlan's which are Controlled Via virtual firewall
Hi all,
I am currently having a problem with Hyper-V.
We have a virtual firewall which is hosted via hyper-v. This also is doing the DHCP for the local network & a Vlan.
The firewall is configured correctly and machines will pick up DHCP for the LAN but the Vlan tags just arent working.
After a bit of testing ive come to the conclusion that something is stripping the tags before the machine gets to speak with the virtual firewall. I also had a look and someone mentioned trunking? enabling this on the firewall VM solve the problem? Anymore info just let me know. thanks in advance!

If you have set VLAN tags on the virtual NICs of any of the VMs, then the virtual switch is handling the VLAN tag processing. That is one feature it offers.
Otherwise, you need you virtual switch set to trunk mode as well as your physical switches on the corresponding port.
As Tim mentioned, your vendor should know all about this already.

Ad CmdLets run on port 389 too. That is the standard for AD. CmdLets use ADSI classes.
If you are in a WS2003 domain then you will be using the RSAT tools. If in a 2008R2 or later domin just install the Admin support tools for the version of AD you are using.
If you want adsi then look in the repository for many examples and complete scripts.
Here is a starter:
$group=([adsisearcher]'samaccountname=testgrp2').FindOne().GetDirectoryEntry()
$group.member

But it runs it on another port ( the requests are made to another port ). and that port is the port that is used by any AD client so i have sure it wont be blocked :)
I'm not sure where you are getting your information, but that's not correct. No matter whether you use .NET classes directly or the AD cmdlets, both will need to connect to an AD domain controller to perform queries.

Windows 8 File History adding UTC timestamp
Hello,
I have been using Window 8 Pro's "File History" feature for the past couple of months. However, I recently had to start over due to a Bitlocker Issue. I set everything the same as last time. Yet, when I navigate into File History's directory on the external drive (e.g., J:\FileHistory\user\Data\....) I see that Windows is now adding a UTC timestamp on all the files, such as "familyvacation(2013_02_23 20_47_36 UTC).mov".
My question is whether there is any way to remove the automatic addition of this time stamp information to the file name? I don't recall this being present on the initial FileHistory backup I initially did.
Any and all help is of course greatly appreciated.
All the best,
Greg

I have been able to remove the UTC timestamp. This is how I did it.
After going round and round in circles, phoning Microsoft and searching the web, I still came up with no answers on how to remove the UTC time stamp.
What happened with me was that I installed windows 10 over 32 bit windows 7 home premium. The newly installed windows 10 didn't respond well and so I took the decision to do a clean install of windows 10 and at the same time change from 32 bit to 64 bit. After making a backup I then installed (clean install through custom setup) windows 10 64 bit and I have to say it is fast and responsive with no glitches.
I then decided to restore from my file history backup but no matter how I tried it would not accept it. However I could see my files, (thousands of them) but they all had the long UTC time stamp in brackets. On manually moving these files over to my directory folders the UTC time stamp was still there. With no help from other sources I changed my search to apps that could modify file names. I came across the open source "Bulk Renaming Utility" the link is http://www.bulkrenameutility.co.uk/Main_Intro.php
This is how it worked for me: Load up the "Bulk Renaming Utility and in the "Remove 5" box" tick R. In "Words box" enter the time code information with brackets that you can copy and paste from one of the file history files (it is the same for all of the files for that particular file history backup) In "Crop" enter with the drop down .. AFTER. Tick "Trim" (this will remove any gaps). Untick Add, Auto date Numbering.
Then select (Crtl A) as many files as you can and press "Rename" or Ctrl R. You should see all your selected files back to normal with the UTC time stamp removed. Repeat this for files in all folders.
Regards, Martin

xmlDoc = xpath(TypedPollingProcRsp, "string((/*[local-name()='TypedPolling' and namespace-uri()='http://schemas.microsoft.com/Sql/2008/05/TypedPolling/Test']/*[local-name()='TypedPollingResultSet0' and namespace-uri()='http://schemas.microsoft.com/Sql/2008/05/TypedPolling/Test']/*[local-name()='TypedPollingResultSet0' and namespace-uri()='http://schemas.microsoft.com/Sql/2008/05/TypedPolling/Test'][1]/*[local-name()='Data' and namespace-uri()='http://schemas.microsoft.com/Sql/2008/05/TypedPolling/Test'])");

Reply:
Use strString( string variable) not xmldoc .
Use below code in expression shape.
strString= xpath(TypedPollingProcRsp, string(string(/*[local-name()='TypedPolling' and namespace-uri()='http://schemas.microsoft.com/Sql/2008/05/TypedPolling/Test']/*[local-name()='TypedPollingResultSet0' and namespace-uri()='http://schemas.microsoft.com/Sql/2008/05/TypedPolling/Test']/*[local-name()='TypedPollingResultSet0' and namespace-uri()='http://schemas.microsoft.com/Sql/2008/05/TypedPolling/Test'][2]/*[local-name()='Data' and namespace-uri()='http://schemas.microsoft.com/Sql/2008/05/TypedPolling/Test'])))
Thanks

RD Licensing base their Licensing fees
How does RD Licensing base their Licensing fees?
By device is the way to go.
What is the fee for each IIS Website or are they unlimited?
What is the fee for each RD Connection Broker High Availability SQL Connection String or are they unlimited?

VBScript Office 365 msExchRecipientTypeDetails for Cloud based objects
Hello everyone. I have a VBScript I use to display information about user objects. With a recent move to Office 365, I find I'm having difficulty detecting RemoteRoom, RemoteEquipment and RemoteShared mailboxes. The values of the 'msExchRecipientTypeDetails' for these object are as follows:
Const CloudRoomRes = -8589934592
Const CloudEquipRes = -17173869184
Const CloudSharedMbx = -34359738368
I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get VBScript to recognize these huge values. The value for a regular remote user mailbox is '-2147483648' and this I can see using 'oUser.msExchRecipientTypeDetails.lowpart'. The numbers above seem to be simply too big, and I'd rather not rewrite this in PowerShell. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.
For a reference here is the code that will using this data: everything works up to and including CloudMBX. After that, no joy.
aTemp = split(oUser.homeMDB,",")
msERTD = CDbl(oUser.msExchRecipientTypeDetails.lowpart)
Select Case msERTD
Case UserMailbox
sTemp = split(aTemp(3),"=")(1) & "\" & split(aTemp(1),"=")(1) & "\" & split(aTemp(0),"=")(1)
Case LinkedMailbox
sTemp = "(Linked) " & Split(aTemp(3),"=")(1) & "\" & split(aTemp(1),"=")(1) & "\" & split(aTemp(0),"=")(1)
Case SharedMailbox
sTemp = "(Shared) " & split(aTemp(3),"=")(1) & "\" & split(aTemp(1),"=")(1) & "\" & split(aTemp(0),"=")(1)
Case RoomMailbox
sTemp = "(Room) " & split(aTemp(3),"=")(1) & "\" & split(aTemp(1),"=")(1) & "\" & split(aTemp(0),"=")(1)
Case EquipmentMailbox
sTemp = "(Equipment) " & Split(aTemp(3),"=")(1) & "\" & split(aTemp(1),"=")(1) & "\" & split(aTemp(0),"=")(1)
Case MailUser
sTemp = "MailUser"
Case CloudMBX
sTemp = "This is an Office 365 mailbox"
Case CloudRoomRes
sTemp = "This bookable Room Resource is part of Office 365"
Case CloudEquipRes
sTemp = "This bookable Equipment Resource is part of Office 365"
Case CloudSharedMbx
sTemp = "This Shared Mailbox is somewhere in the cloud"
Case Else
sTemp = "Unable to determine recipient type"
End Select
Thanks.

To correctly access O365 resources you will need to use PowerShell.

Hi jrv,
I'm not accessing the o365 resources, I'm accessing the local Active Directory. These objects are synced via DIRSYNC (soon to be AADSync). It seems the value of the msExchRecipientTypeDetails attribute is too big for VBScript, and was looking for a way to deal with these extremely large numbers.

Yes. It is a 64 bit value or a LargeInteger value. Search for scripts that can unpack a large integer.
Here are some examples: https://www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl#newwindow=1&q=vbscript+large+integer

jrv's advice still applies. Things are much easier in PowerShell.

I've tried the standard unpacking routines, which I still use for things like lastlogon, pwdlastchanged dates etc, but for RecipientTypeDetails, it still fails.
Yes, I've rewritten my script in PoSH, and I can access all the values properly (and easily).

Sorry but there is no such thing. You cannot change the logon message box.
There is a message that can be displayed at logon which can be changed with Group Policy. Post in GP forum for help.

I have no idea what you are asking.
In VBScript use MsgBox function to create a message box.

You can use "InputBox" to get strings.
