Hello, Joan37.

Assuming that it's a Motorola Xoom tablet you have, it uses an ARM Processor, so it will not be able to run the full x86/x64 editions of Windows 8.

This leaves you with Windows RT, the ARM specific version of Windows 8.

Windows RT is an OEM product only available pre-installed on hardware (http://blogs.windows.com/windows/b/bloggingwindows/archive/2012/04/16/announcing-the-windows-8-editions.aspx), so unless Motorola decide to release it as an upgrade for your model (Assuming it's hardware compatible), it looks unlikely.

Doing a quick Internet search yields no announcements from Motorola, so unfortunately, I wouldn't hold your breath on it happening.

Rest API for Automatically created storage account

Hi ,

I am making use of REST APIs to create an azure virtual machine. I am able to create vm successfully by providing the storage account name explicitly as part of media link parameter .

If i want to make use of automatically created storage account  option thru rest api  { i.e..implicit storage account creation in case if there is no such thing inside selected region }   how can i achieve this in REST API call , especially what will be the value for media link in that scenario.

Thanks

Can someone help us? Just want to know if creating a storage account automatically when creating an azure virtual machine through REST API is the same as creating a storage account independently...

If that is the case, then is there any way to find out storage accounts that are created automatically. Bcos in this scenario

1) Create Azure instance  in West US using Automatic storage account option

2) No storage account in West US

3) Automatically create storage account - portalvhd....

4) Instance created

5) Create new storage account - mystoraccnt

6) Create another Azure instance  in West US using Automatic storage account option

in the above case, it should land on the automatically created storage account and not on mystoraccnt if my understanding is correct.

Just want to know how I can achieve this? I could see two things... storage accounts starting with "portalvhd" and description - "implicitly created storage account". But both of them are not foolproof.

Stuck with this for a couple of days, kindly help

Thanks.

Apps Folder

Just thought I'd share this w/ y'all... this is how I have come to best like displaying the Applications folder I keep on my Windows8 Desktop Taskbar.  Listed in alphabetical order it's how I can pull or access anything I may want @ any given moment w/out leaving Desktop to look for something.  I simply scroll up & down for the desired item & it saves changing screens to go get something.  A few, like Weather, Calendar, News I'll usually keep sitting on the APP Bar @ the top-left of the Desktop.  Thus no need to go back n forth visiting Start or WinQ for things.  This has just become 'my way' but, may be of some interest to others, as well.  This is the same content as WinQ, just safes flipping screens.

Hi Maggy,

You have to Use DFT to Insert , update and delete.

use Conditional Split for splittting the records which needs to be deleted and updated, and same way for inesrting also.

After Splitting it use the business logic and do rest...

you have to configure SMTP for Send mail task..

Troubleshooting DHCP Server

Hi,

I am facing strange issue with DHCP server. We have DHCP role installed on Windows 2008 Server. There is a single scope created and it was working fine. Suddenly the DHCP stopped leasing IP's to the clients. There is no error in the DHCP Server. In the clients I am getting the error as per the below screenshot.

The Server IP was 10.10.10.2/25 and the scope was to give IP of 10.10.10.128/25 range.

As the IP of server was falling under different subnet I have tried changing the IP of Server to 10.10.10.250 which was in the same subnet as Scope. But clients are giving error that Request timed out.

Please suggest me as how can I start Troubleshooting and can understand the reason for the issue.

Hi,

Did you try IP release/renew on the client machines ?

Event ID 1002 — DHCP Client Address Conflicts

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc726889(v=ws.10).aspx

Do you have multiple NICs on your DHCP server ? If yes, make sure NIC binding order is set appropriately.

Say, NIC 1 has IP 10.10.10.251 and NIC 2 has 10.10.10.250, and if you are using 10.10.10.250 as DHCP server IP then, make sure NIC2 is on top of binding order.

Thanks

Sorry for the late response.

What's the current situation ? Also, please provide following details, let's see if we can figure out something.

On which OS DHCP server is running ?

How many scopes are there on that DHCP server ?

Do you have issues with only one particular scope or all scopes have this problem ?

Did you try rebooting the DHCP server ?

Were there any recent change in the network ? (firewall, VLAN changes etc...)

Can you please post the unedited ipconfig /all output of DHCP server here ?

Do you see any errors/warnings (not just related to DHCP) in server event viewer ?

Did you run a full system scan using any AV client to make that server is not infected ?

Thanks

Where does Win7 store *.ini files and how to search for them?

(Newbie alert)

I am painfully moving up from Windows XP to Windows 7 - One of the challenging utilities is Windows Search.

In XP I make hidden files and folders visible, and then perform a search for *.ini files.

What is the equivalent procedure in Windows 7?

Hi,

i've been using the Freenote app (andriod) and must say that this tool is much easier to take notes than onenote.

could onenote implement at least the same functionality - try it and you will see what i mean.

i would love to have the userfriendly interface of freenote with the sync capabilities of onenote mobile.

My mother's e-mail account

Hey,

My mother set up her account a couple of years ago and she shut her computer down the other night and when she went on my computer to log in to show me something on hers it said that it looks like someone else is using her email account. it would not allow access to her account it made her fill out a form which she has filled out several times now and the microsoft team was responding to her through my email. just got an email back from them today that stated that :

Your security is important to us
Recently, we received several requests to gain access to carol-anne-smith@hotmail.com. Unfortunately, we were unable to verify your ownership using the information that was provided. Microsoft takes the security and privacy of our customers very seriously. We are committed to protecting your personal information, and our careful account recovery process is intended to protect you from any possible malicious activity.

Now what?
Because there have been multiple unsuccessful recovery attempts for this account, we recommend at this point that you create a new account. It's quick and easy, and we have tools to help you import contacts, connect with Facebook, and even receive messages from multiple email accounts

the question i now have is WTF does she do now??? she has never had this problem before and there is no direct way to contact Microsoft to be able to verify with the idiots that decide whether you have given them enough information to get them to allow you to change your password and access your account. My mother has pictures on her account that are irreplaceable. We need help!!! what can we do???

HELP PLEASE!!!!

PowerShell script to enhance the output of fc.exe

fc.exe is a handy utility that can be used to compare text files.  fc.exe only outputs the text lines that differ and one line of context above and below the difference.    I'd like to have a PowerScript wrapper for fc.exe that will look at the output from fc.exe /n and produce output that shows all the lines that match as well as the differences.  For the lines that match, no line numbers would need to be output by the script.

That seemed like a lot of work just to find out that good old fc.exe itself is suspect! Unless, of course, your wrapper cleverly detects the erroneous results and finds them by some other method.

Funny how some people suggest that COM objects should be avoided in powershell scripts because that technology is so pre-dot.net, while some of us (me included) continue to use familiar old executables that are so pre-COM.

Al, thanks for that pointer to the one bug report about fc.exe
From my testing, there needs to be additional bug reports concerning fc.exe

It amazes me that there can be fundamental bugs in fc.exe after all these years.

I played around with it some and it is indeed triggered by records containing more than 127
characters (not including CR/LF delineation)

Unfortunately, that's all it takes to throw fc.exe off the track.

says
"The Fc.exe command does not work correctly in Windows XP when the command compares files that
differ every 128th byte of a character string."

but I can now say
"The Fc.exe command does not work correctly in Windows XP when the command compares files that
contain any ASCII or UNICODE records that have more than 127 characters in a record."

And, I can also say
"The Fc.exe command does not work correctly in Windows 7 (using either the 32 or 64 bit fc.exe)
when the command compares files that contain any ASCII or UNICODE records that have more than 127
characters in a record."

I'm pretty sure I can re-use a lot of my script even if I have to switch to a 3rd party port of a
UNIX like diff utility.   I was just hoping for portability reasons to just depend on Microsoft
provided software (Powershell.exe and fc.exe in the initial set).

I can always "cripple" the file comparison based on fc.exe by truncating the lines at 127 chars
before fc.exe sees them, but that would certainly not be ideal as I'd miss seeing some differences
in the output.   I'm also thinking of creating a version that compresses the whitespace out of the
long lines before I truncate them.  Again, not ideal.

Or, I could figure out how to code this entirely in PowerShell.  The "minimal difference set"
algorithms get pretty hairy, so I'd like to just leverage on a robust fc.exe or diff.exe utility if
possible.

It seems ludicrous that Windows 7 does not have a robust text file comparison tool for command line
use provided with the installation.

Maybe I should just ask "is there a UNIX-like diff command for PowerShell" ?

It really makes me mad that Microsoft has used "diff" as an alias for "Compare-Object", implying
(to me anyway) that the two should be comparable in a utility sense for text file comparison.

The presence of bugs like that may amaze you, but it doesn't surprise me. FC.exe is a very old utility that is probably not considered by MS or by users as being a mission critical component of windows (8, 7, XP, millenium, 98, 95) or its DOS precursors. Had it been, I expect its flaws would have come to everyone's attention long ago.

That said, in the olden days, very few people thought that a text file with lines longer than 128 bytes were something we had to deal with.

So go ahead and submit bug reports. But consider that when bugs were identified ten years ago in a much more up to date product (VBScript), no fixes were applied.

I'd pitch fc.exe in the Recycle Bin if there was an alternative provided by Microsoft.

Oh, well.   I'm starting to get some ideas how to make fc.exe robust in spite of itself.

It will take a bit of pre-processing and post-processing of each file to be compared, but I think I
can do it all in PowerShell.   Thank goodness that Microsoft has not left too many fundamental bugs
in PowerShell (that I know of anyway).

Replication

Reply:

Hi their,

I would go with the option of transactional replication or transaction peer-to-peer replication.

Thanks,

I am unsure about why you want to do this.

Are you trying to offload reporting? If so - why do you have so many subscribers/Web Servers?

The reason I am curious about this is because it sounds like you have a large number of web servers which will entail a large number of licenses.

A more economical solution could be a smaller number of SQL Servers.

Are you trying to do load balancing? If so will the user always return to to the same web servers/sql server pair? If not it might enter some data on one pair and then return to a different pair and it will try to do further operations on data which is not there. Replication does add latency which may or may not work for you.

So we need to understand your goals and where these sql servers are.

What you are doing is load balancing - actually a form of fault tolerance.

P2P is the best fit here.

Outlook connecting to wrong public folder database in exchange 2010, problem re-appeared

Hello Everyone,

I posted the problem about outlook connecting to DR PF database. Restarting of Prod PF server fixed the issue for sometime but it was re-appeared.

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/exchange2010/thread/7e4a1851-49c7-4638-a620-c72caacb265d/

I have checked that outlook first tries to connect to Prod PF, it shows connecting and then it moved to DR PF server and stays connected.

Can someone help me again in this?

Thanks,

Vik

Felx, this will work when you put the settings manually, when creating outlook profile.

Hello, i wanted to inform to some people that had the same question than me, that it only needs to be in the same LAN to connect to an mailbox in other forest, and maybe use the fqdn name of the Exchange server in the profile in case the DNS name space is not copied in both DNS Servers in both forests.

Multiple selection under same category in Left Refiner

Hi,

I am having a query regarding left refiner. I want to select multiple values under same category in left refiner of searchcenter site in FS4SP. by extenting the OOB refinement panel. Already i tried few approach but didn't worked out.

Any ideas/sugesstions are most welcome.

Thanks in Advance!!!

Hi,

What have you tried so far? One solution is to build something using the a= parameter to keep the refiners in, as the r= cannot hold more than one entry per category.

Thanks,

Hi Ujwal,

Take a look at this project:

http://multipleselect.codeplex.com/

It might be good enough.

We, at eWave, developed our own webpart for this issue, because our customer wanted a more "responsive" one, maintaining the click and refine, without "apply filter" button.

Disdaling folder redirection gpo and running gpudate / force on client computers. The Client computers keep looking for the original path of \\server\usernames.

The Folder re-direction root folder is jacked up. SO I disable the Custom GPO that set up the orignal redirection. I moved the files to the local user accounts. I reboot the computers and it works.. then  hours later it pops up saying that they an no longer find \\server\usernames  and the desktop becuase un-accessable.

I have ran all the google searches on this and can not find the solution. I have even looked for a registry entry on the client computers. any ideas?

HELP!!

Hi,

You should not directly disable the group policy. Try modify it to "redirect back to local" and update for group policy. When users logged on, files will be moved back to local. After all users performed a re-logon, you could then disable the group policy.

I tried that as well..( and most the suggestions of the  first 5 pages of google search) I have had this happen on two servers in the last 3 weeks. what happens is you reboot the client after the gpo change and it will stop looking for it.. then the next day it starts looking again and it fails and gives message cant find \\server\userprofiles. Even after take the machine off the domain and rejoin it. I found hidden on a page the answer is here..

"HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folder

you see something like \\servername\userfolder\  however the rest will look like %USERPROFILE%\desktop  so i changed the ones that said \\servername to %USERPROFILE%\foldername

This worked great. the only blow back was on one out of the 15 computers outlook got pissy and couldn't create a new account .pst so I had to create a new user account on the domain.

While generating a WCF SQL schema, why am I getting different sequencing order of the columns for the same store procedure present in different SQL Server DB, SP uses table valued parameters as input parameter?

We migrated the DB from A to B.

I generated the WCF SQL schema for the same sp on two different SQL DB(A and B) and found out that the column sequence of the TVPs differs in WCF schema.

The user-defined table types on both DB are same. WCF SQL generated on A DB matches the user-defined table types and other doesn't match with the table type structure.

have you check the service pack and cumulative updates on both SQL server, to make sure that they are the same, typically when you connect to the SQL server with SSMS, it give you the server level, like my currently SQL 2008 R2 is showing 10.50.2500.  I would confirm that both server are at the same level.

We are using the same SQL Server 2008 R2 but we have different DB. we restored the production backup (B DB) and pointed the interface to this.

As interface started failing, hence we generated the WCF-SQL schema by pointing to the restored DB and saw the difference in column order.

Error:The data for table-valued parameter @ABC doesn't conform to the table type of the parameter.

Take a look at the Table Column order in both databases to see if there is a difference.
