fbl_impressive Professional 10130 - Error 0x80246017

Server 2008 R2 BSOD - looks to be something to do with srvnet.sys

Hi all,

Over the past month I've had two BSOD from this server which has been in production for about 3 months.

Below is the debuglog.txt from the memory.dmp

From my limited understanding this looks like an error with srvnet.sys. The box is pretty much up to date, with only 7/8 updates unapplied. Its Win 2008 R2 SP1, virtual machine running on Citrix Xenserver.

Any help is appreciated.

Nick

Hi ,

If you want to perform the further research on the BSOD, I would like to suggest that you contact Microsoft Customer Service and Support (CSS) via telephone so that a dedicated Support Professional can assist with your request. It is not the best place to talk about the BSOD issue because it is not effective for us to debug the crash dump file here in the forum.

To obtain the phone numbers for specific technology request please take a look at the web site listed below:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=fh;EN-US;OfferProPhone#faq607

Hope the issue will be resolved soon.

Best Regards,

System (ACPI.sys) process taking lot of CPU

Hi All,

I have installed Windows 8 Ent edition. All went good , but machine has been very slow from the time of installation. I have disabled and I saw that system process is taking lot of CPU. Why is system process using CPU continuously?

I have read other forums threads and it says it might be due to anti virus, or bad drivers. How can we figure which driver has problem?

I used process explorer and found that it is ACPI.sys which is taking CPU

Please let me know how to go about this issue.

Thanks & Regards

VV

Make a xperf trace to see the cause. Install the WPT (http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/4847.install-the-windows-performance-toolkit-wpt-en-us.aspx), open a CMD prompt with admin rights and type this S(top ProcessExplorer first!):

xperf -on latency -stackwalk profile -buffersize 1024 -MaxFile 512 -FileMode Circular && timeout -1 && xperf -d highCPUUsage.etl

after you captured 30s of the cpu usage, go back to CMD prompt and press a key to stop the logging. Now compress the highCPUUsage.etl as 7z (LZMA2, ULTRA) to reduce the size. Upload this file to your SkyDrive or Dropbox and post a link here.

the trace is incomplete. Don't rename the kernel.etl. the xperf -d is important.

wew..sorry man but I type exactly like you told

the output is kernel.etl

i dont know what's wrong

i'll be looking for what's wrong

thank you for your reply

Reply:

no, the kernel.etl is only a temporary file in your root drive.

Run explorer, go to C: make a new folder xperf, go into this folder. Under File->Open cmd select to open a CMD prompt with admin rights.

Now run the command, wait at least 30s (this is required to capture enough data) go back to the CMD window and press a key. Now you see a file called highCPUUsage.etl. I need this file, no kernel.etl.

thank you so much after all

ok, the CPU is getting to hot and Windows tries to throttle the CPU.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CPU_throttling

This throttling shows up as ACPI.sys usage (regular usage by SYSTEM and DPC usage).

Update the BIOS/Firmware and try tools like Speedfan to increase the CPU cooler fan speed to cool the CPU more.

Reply:

Whew.. I never think that before, because I "hear" the fan works ok so I though that's not the problem

My Bios the latest one from Asus, is it ok to increase the fan?

And should I send it to the service center?

Thanks you so much man.

Use Software tools like Speedfan and increase the CPU fan speed. Does this improve it?

I think increase the speedfan can't solve it

Now I try to downgrade the BIOS version, because I tried back to W7 before and nothings changed

If bios don't work, I just give up and send it to the service center

Is there any more advice?

Reply:

Mine is also latest BIOS version. I see ACPI.sys is taking CPU in process explorer. Why it happens in Windows 8 and never in windows 7?

I have System process running at 40% CPU all the time.
I see that ACPI is the cause.

The only way to stop the CPU activity is to put the computer to Sleep and after the resume the CPU is down to 0%.

Here is my trace as requested.

if we uninstall this update  Context.Request.AppRelativeCurrentExecutionFilePath gives "~/Content/Setup Monitoring/Parameter Maintenance/Parameter.aspx",which is what we are expecting.

We are using .Net Framework 4.5.1 with Windows 7 enterprise and Visual studio 2012.

Any one ran into similar kind of issue after .Net Framework kb3037581  security update.

I just went checking my Win 8.1 WU.
KB3035583 is among the list of updates waiting to be installed.

There is not a word about this "feature" in the description of KB3035583. If it is true, why is MS trying to hide that they are (ab)using Windows Update for this? The phone has been ringing all day here. People are really scared that Windows 10 will be installed without warning on a busy workday.... It seems that the icon doesn't go away, even if you sign up for the update. And if you go to Windows Update from the control panel, there is only word about this Windows 10 Upgrade....

1. Go to Programs and Features > View Installed Updates > look for the KB3035583 > right click > Uninstall.

2. Set Windows Update to Manual so that next time the same KB reappears, you can hide it.

Unfortunately your post is off topic here, in the MSDN Subscriptions feedback forum, because it is not feedback regarding the MSDN Subscription. This is only one forum among the many that are on the MSDN Discussion Forums, and given the content of your post, you likely chose the wrong forum.  This is a standard response I've written up in advance to help many people (thousands, really.) who happen to post their question in my forum, but please don't ignore it.  The links provided below I've collected to help with many issues we've seen.

For technical issues with Microsoft products that you would run into as an end user of those products, one great source of info and help is http://answers.microsoft.com, which has sections for Windows, Hotmail, Office, IE, and other products.   Office related forums are also here: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/support/contact-us-FX103894077.aspx

For Technical issues with Microsoft products that you might have as an IT professional (like more technical installation issues, or other IT issues), you should head to the TechNet Discussion forums at http://social.technet.microsoft.com/forums/en-us, and search for the product in question.

For issues with products you might have as a Developer (like how to talk to APIs, what version of software do what, or other developer issues), you should head to the MSDN discussion forums at http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/forums/en-us, and search for your product, technology, or issue.

If you're asking a question particularly about one of the Microsoft Dynamics products, a great place to start is here: http://community.dynamics.com/.

DreamSpark students with problems using the Secure Download Manager should read this: https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/27085f1c-daf4-4ee3-99eb-5f1ac715d959/dreamspark-students-using-the-sdm-please-read?forum=msdnfeedback

If you really think your issue is related to the MSDN Subscription, and I screwed up, I apologize!  Please repost your question to the discussion forum and include much more detail about your problem, that could include screenshots of the issue (do not include subscription information or product keys in your screenshots!), and/or links to the problem you're seeing.

If you really have no idea where to post this question, then you shouldn't have posted here, because we have a forum just for you!  It's called the 'Where is the forum for…?' forum and it's here: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/forums/en-us/whatforum/

Audit TerminalService localSessionManager on servers

Hello,

I'm asking for script that i want to run on multiple server to monitor events ID (21,22,23,24,25) in real time.

i have a script but every time i run this script on all servers, the script collect all events from old time to current. that's waste much time and data duplication. i just want to get the newest or changes in those events and import it automatically in database and i want to generate the reports from database.

sorry for my language.

thanks in advance.

What does that mean?  What is "catch"?  I know of no computer term "catch".

Save? Store? Alert? Email? Shutdown?  Run program?

You have to be more explicit and as Bill has noted, we do not write scripts on demand here.

You can assign tasks to the eventlog.  Post in the platform forum to learn how to do this.

How to add content to local help files in windows 8.1?

I was wondering how to add content to local help and support in windows 8.1?

In addition, I would like to suggest a feature to the helps + tips app for adding custom local content to the computer from Microsoft or content from Microsoft that is already downloaded.

My goal was to put some of the MSDN/TechNet documentation on my computer since I am a developer/IT person and might need to reference it from time to time. For instance, the command line reference is really important to power users/IT users.

User directories not searchable

Have setup roaming user profiles with folder redirection several times without problems, until now.

Server 2012 R2 with folder redirection and roaming user profiles enabled. Settings followed (to best of knowledge, was 4 months ago now):

https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc737633%28v=ws.10%29.aspx

Issue is that none of the user folders can be searched. I.e. you search for a file you know is there and 'no items matched your search'.

I have tried several users and several client OSes. Search works in other folders. I have tried changing permissions on the user folders, the root folder has full system access, I have granted one folder ownership by admins, then ownership of the user, then given system full control with no joy.

Reply:
Ok could anyone list what windows *requires* to be able to search a folder? Maybe there is a permission on the chain that is stopping it from accessing it.

"Microsoft Intune with Desktop Operating System" to be discontinued?

Hi,

I'm receiving information that the license type "Microsoft Intune with Desktop Operating System" will be discontinued this summer. This is verbal from Microsoft representative in Sweden. No written source available.

Microsoft Online Service Support can't seem to help me find any such information about the license being terminated or not continueing to be offered.

I represent a Company that currently has this license for Windows licensing and wishes to continue doing so in the future.

Currently the license "expire" in August, but is set to auto renewal.

Can anyine shed some light on this situation?

Best regards,

Why Microsoft removed Windows Mail from Windows 7

I would like to ask why Microsoft removed Windows Mail from Windows 7. I tried a lot of email clients and Windows Mail is the best.
Windows Live Mail simply in its early days of development. I had it for one month. After I found that it is unable to move IMAP folders I gave up.

Why Microsoft will not make Windows Mail available for download? I copied Windows Vista Windows Mail and it work. But I had to find disk with Vista 64 bit, install it, install all updates and then copy files. And now I have to keep Vista for sake of Windows Mail updates.

It must be easier way to do this. Please guys. It is kind of application when you forgot that you are actually working with application. You just do your work.

Reply:
have you given Thunderbird a chance?  I feel it is vastly superior to Windows Mail.  (Yes i did try it also).  I run Shredder (64bit native Thunderbird) with IMAP to gmail.. works beautifully.

Reply:

Yes I tried. I tried it on Windows XP and OE is so much faster coping files from one IMAP account to another. As well by some reason some transferred messages were corrupted with Thunderbird.
As well very often I receive report with test which is 3 Mb html. OE opens it instantly. TB needs like 5 seconds.

So I decided do not go with. Of course maybe they release something better with version 3 but as far as I know it still in beta.

And for many many products Microsoft made much better interface than anyone else. OE is good example. Simple and powerful.

Windows Mail was an exceptional application to be missed and not to many can rival it's interface, speed and reliability. Thunderbird is quite slow with a low resolution interface and can't handle Microsoft accounts very well along with it's fifteen minute sync restriction. Windows live Mail is the downloadable replacement for windows mail and is code based on windows mail. An excelent mail client which handles many protocalls but not as integral as windows mail which had a more professional look and feel to it and again was faster and more reliable.

To me Windows Live Mail looks like they deleted all code and started from beginning. As I said when I can't move one IMAP folder inside another IMAP folder on the same account is really big limitation. I have coupld of account and they come in one Inbox. In WLM I have several Inboxes per account. As I said one month I tried to make it comfortable just to avoid situation when I don't like program because it looks different or behave a bit different. Inability to reorganize IMAP folders was last bit.

Hello,

Now Microsoft releases the new Windows Live Mail client to replace the old one. As we know, it is allowed to set hotmail/live account in Windows Mail on Windows Vista. However, this can be achieved by Windows Live Mail client within Windows Live product. You can download via the following hyperlink.

The last version of windows live mail had to be run in compatability mode. Does this hold true for the new version?

Well I receive couple of reports per day. Sometimes I need to find specific report or compare them or just need to find trend.  The faster it render the faster I will find proper one. Sometimes I acceidently click on report.

I actually was wrong. By email we send summary of report which is around 36 Kb with a lot of pictures embedded (graphs). OE handles it instantly. TB very slow.

Well downloaded, installed. All issues I found and reported to Microsoft in January still there. Main one that I can't move IMAP folders still there. The funniest thing that all email clients (which support IMAP) I checked can do it.  Onle WLM can't. And to me it is show stopped. OE and Windows Mail can do it on the same IMAP server. In fact as said only one client had problems. It is WML.
Other issues still there: Hard to see selection, Only From field is bold when message is unread. When message is read it has gray color which is hard to read etc. Maybe after another 9 month they will fix it.

There are three good reasons why Windows Mail (formerly Outlook Express) was removed from Windows 7.

1.) There have been an awful lot of companies whining, moaning and gnashing their collective teeth with regards to "fairness" when it comes to stuff that comes bundled with Windows. Stuff like Windows Media Player and Internet Explorer. It would seem to me that this is just Microsoft heading them off at the pass - especially when the EC seems to think it's a good idea to levy huge fines for simply doing what everyone else already does - include a browser and media player in their products.

2.) Microsoft has offloaded a number of apps previously included in Windows to lighten the "bloat"... Stuff like Windows Messenger, Mail, Photo Gallery, Movie Maker, and the parental controls. Not everyone needs or wants everything from that package. Rather than preinstall things and then have to set up the means to remove them - it's easier to just have them as separate, yet free downloads.

3.) All of these apps are fully separate from Windows and as such, the people working on them are free from the constraints of getting them out only when a new version of Windows is released. Things can be updated and improved more often this way. That and since they're separate, they can make one version for multiple OS's...

This is perfectly valid. I didn't really ask to put it back as part of the Windows. Just give me option to download offical and supported version from MS.
I will be more than happy. Please don't suggest me Windows Live Mail. It looks like it partially based on Outlook Express code but somehow it works and looks and behaves completelly different from OE.

And it didn't even possible to drag folder inside another folder. It simply not supported. You can do it only via File|Folder|Move menu.

P.S. Forgot to write that WLM is extremly slow with Gmail IMAP account. OE just slow.

I think you are not right.

In x86 version see folder "C:\Program Files\Windows Mail\" - there is "Windows Mail", complete with all necessary files – including hidden file "WinMail.exe".

In x64 Version you have it twice "C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Mail\" and "C:\Program Files\Windows Mail\".

And when you replace "msoe.dll" with the corresponding x86 or x64 file from Vista then "Windows Mail" works fine.
You only need to run the hidden file "C:\Program Files\Windows Mail\WinMail.exe"

The thing is - Windows Mail in Windows 7 has a very limited functionality - it's there to manage your contacts. That is, until you replace the MSOE.DLL file - which contains the remaining functionality.

Seems to me we really should not have to perform as many hacks and workarounds like this. Just recently posted was a workaround for the side bar, for mail,  recycle bin icons, icon sizing, taskbar previews, quick launch, classic start menu, and thats just the begining. All of these should be user configurable.

Alternatively, people should not perform so many hacks and actually try to use the OS as designed.  Most of these hacks are just to make something act like an OS that is now two versions out of date.  They will almost certainly lead to complaints from some down the line when they have unintended consequences.  Why should everthing be user configurable anyway, especially since I have yet to see a comment where configurable means anything other than make it act like XP?  Personally, it sounds like we should have an OS that acts like every OS they have ever made, which many people would then claim is slow and bloated?  Where does it end?  Can I demand that it load Microsoft Plus, or how about that it act like Windows 3.1?  For that matter, I demand that I be able to buy an aerodynamic hybrid car with at least eight cylinders that runs on (leaded) regular gasoline, ethanol, and biodiesel, is also a convertible with fins, and has a sound system that will play CD's DVDs, flash drives, tapes, 8-tracks, and vinyl.  Sorry, but yes the OS has continued to evolve.  One can always use a Mac if one wants an OS GUI that has kept is look and feel from iteration to iteration.  Maybe the Windows interface wasn't as refined at first, but regardless of that, Microsoft has at least worked to continue enhance it.

Two examples. One. We should not have to hack/workaround for quick launch. But we have to because icons don't adhere to it. Two. We should not have to hack icon size but we do because windows decides what size they will be for folders even if we apply the size to all folders globally. And as stephan says we should just use the operating system as it is designed but there are to many design limitations.

Exactly!  The whole reason i use Thunderbird for imap was because it was much faster and had features the windows mail did not have... Did you try the 3.x version?  I have well over 1GB of mail in my imap.. and it is fast as lightning.

Why should everthing be user configurable anyway, especially since I have yet to see a comment where configurable means anything other than make it act like XP?
You're right, Windows Live was deliberately designed without message rules since users can just manually move inbox messages one at a time.

Has it occurred to you that people want it to work like XP because that OS was designed by people who understood usability?

Your post is typical MS arrogance: "There's no need to test features with actual users. We know better than them how they should use a computer."

People liked Outlook Express !
And Windows Mail was a good replacement.
But instead of letting us have it, MS decided to replace it by WLM that does not compare in any way to WM (or OE).

The same goes for WLMM !
People loved Windows Movie Maker.
But instead of letting us have it, MS decided to replace it by WLMM that does not compare in any way to WMM.

WLPG is maybe the better one of the Live Collection, but MS does nothing with the valuable suggestions for improvement that users make.

If MS is listening to the users, then I wonder which users it is listening to ! It are in any way not those who participate in beta testings and Technical Previews.

I think that MS should blow up the whole bunch of Live Programs and start them all over from scratch, that is if they are willing to listen to the users this time.

I had to have this off my chest.

more then you think , .......

actually nearly all , the same with nearly all the live programs , to get them all click the link ' get windows live ' in my signature

they did the same on vista and on 7even , when i first started with the vista beta i had about 4 things i wanted changed , they did 3 of them ,.... the 4 was allready done and released the next week , ... on 7 i asked for a few things , well they are in them now , take a look at microsoft research , link below in my sig ' photosynth ' and
' pivot from live labs ' , the beta office 2010 , sharepoint , forefront , in all those cases Microsoft did listen and continues to listen to its users (!)

you can participate also in beta testing , the advanced level is more or less on a case by case basis , and studies are done , trials go on at all levels of testing , feedback is taken seriously , i can vouch for that !

Maybe I didn't use Windows Live Mail long enough but when I found out that each and every account had it's separate folders had to looked at the rules setup for each acc. ........ it was to much to try to sync and went to Thunderbird.

Now, I'm looking at the mentioned (most everywhere) hacks to try and get the old Vista mail working in my newly installed Win 7 :-)

hyper-v Over SMB

Hello everyone!

I want to move to a virtualized environment , I was taking a look at hyper-v over SMB with storage spaces and shared JBOD as a storage solution.

I have 4 servers that I want to virtualize. DC, SQL , Traditional file server and an application server.

And inside the hyper-v cluster I will be using some sort of guest cluster, like another dc and maybe SQL always on availability group or maybe shared VHDX for a traditional guest cluster.

1)Can I setup clustered storage spaces on the same 2 servers that will be used as clustered SOFS? Or I need dedicated servers for storage spaces, and separate storage spaces from SOFS.

2)Should I virtualize my DC?? Or is it better to have them on my Physical Hyper-v servers?

3)I was taking a look at the dell VRTX , can this scenario work on the dell?? 4 physical servers ,2 SOFS clusters and 2 hyper-v clusters without storage spaces and use dell shared storage.

PS : This topic is new for me and my information and planning may all be wrong.

Thank you for your help.

Parent not include children if parrent is miss in another year in MDX

Hi All,

i have data,

parentid geo CustomerId Sales Year
171 A 171 10 2014
171 A 172 20 2015
171 A 172 30 2014
171 A 173 40 2014

query,

 SELECT NON EMPTY { [Measures].[Sales] }
 ON COLUMNS, NON EMPTY { ([DIMCustomer].[ParentGeoCode].[ParentGeolCode].ALLMEMBERS ) }
  DIMENSION PROPERTIES MEMBER_CAPTION, MEMBER_UNIQUE_NAME

  ON ROWS FROM
  ( SELECT ( { [DIMCustomer].[ParentSkId].[Level 02].allmembers } )

  ON COLUMNS FROM ( SELECT ( { [DIMCustomer].[HierarchyCategory].&[Hierarchy] } )
  ON COLUMNS FROM ( SELECT ( { [Year].[Year].&[2015], [Year].[Year].&[2014] } )
  ON COLUMNS FROM [Cube])))

  WHERE ( [Year].[Year].CurrentMember, [DIMCustomer].[HierarchyCategory].&[Hierarchy],
  [DIMCustomer].[ParentSkId].[Level 02].allmembers)

output-  coming from this query is 10 but as per requirment i need 100 if i select year 2014 and 2015

Manish

In your solution, can you confirm [Measures].[Sales] is set as 'Sum'... like this

And not like this...

Or some other option?

If it is set as something else, can you change it to 'Sum' and see if it works?

Hmm, without looking at the cube structure, not sure how the 3 items in the WHERE clause are behaving. If not critical (or at least for testing), can you comment out your where clause and see if you get the correct result?

Do you see the right measure if you browse in Visual Studio?

Can you describe what's contained in these Hierarchies in your query... are these being populated from the data in the table you provided or filtering the result set in some way.

(a) [DIMCustomer].[ParentGeoCode].[ParentGeolCode].ALLMEMBERS,

(b) [DIMCustomer].[ParentSkId].[Level 02] and

(c) [DIMCustomer].[HierarchyCategory].&[Hierarchy]

Regarding Creation of VM of Windows 2008 Server Enterprise Edition on Window 2012 Standard Edition in Cluster mode

Hi,

We are going to Procure Windows 2012 Server Standard Edition - 2 Nos. We will install it on 2 physical severs and want to create 2 VMs each on these physical machine and want these VM in cluster mode for High Availability. The Operating system required for these VMs would be Windows 2008 Enterprise Edition and Windows 2012 Server Standard Edition with Service Pack1 each on these 2 servers separately.  Please confirm if we can create VMs using Windows 2012 Server Standard Edition

1. Having Windows 2008 Enterprise edition in cluster mode ie Clustering can be done

2. VMs Windows 2012 server standard edition in cluster mode for implementing HA
