Wapshere Powershell Activity help needed

Wapshere Powershell Activity help needed

Hi,

I am trying to create a mailbox for a user using the following: http://www.wapshere.com/missmiis/powershell-activity

From the FIM server (Sync/Service/Portal on same server) the FIMService account can create a mailbox using powershell and runas.

I have registered all the components as per http://www.wapshere.com/missmiis/powershell-activity guide.

Here is the rest of my setup:

C:\FIM\Exchange.ps1 that contains:

param($accountName)

$Session = New-PSSession -ConfigurationName Microsoft.Exchange -ConnectionUri http://<FQDN of Exchange 2010 server>/PowerShell/ -Authentication Kerberos

Import-PSSession $Session

The Worklow Activity is as follows:

Powershell cmdlet: C:\FIM\exchange.ps1

Powershell Parameters: enable-mailbox -identity adatum\$accountName -database 'mailbox database'

powershell remote server address: <blank>

powershell remote user: <blank>

powershell remote password: <blank>

Now the FIM Requests completes without error, but the mailbox is not created.

Please could someone help me out?

Kind thanks,

SK

Reply:

Although I haven't used Carol Wapshere's Powershell activity, it looks like you'll want to move the "Powershell parameters" bit to the bottom of the script in Exchange.ps1, and pass the account name as the parameter.

As it stands, Exchange.ps1 does not "do" anything.

Thank you Steve, I eventually settled on the FIM Codeplex Powershell Activity.

Support for Windows 2012

When can we expect a statement of support for the FIM 2010 R2 portal installation on Windows 2012. Currently it fails.

Windows 8 - Windows Defender Heuristic is very slow to detect viruses

Hi,

I do a number of test with Windows Defender for Windows 8 Preview.

The Heuristic is very slow at detecting viruses.

Sometimes I need to do a full scan in order to detect viruses.

Microsoft need to fine tune it's Heuristic engine for Windows Defender.

Hello,

Try out Windows 8 Enterprise Edition RTM, I found it quite in detecting potential harmful software on my computer.  You will received message on the Message Center on the task bar and Windows Defender will give you a warning message "PC status: Potentially unprotected" in orange color.  :)

Still waiting features...

Does anybody know when we might get the "paste screen capture" into Lync client? Microsoft has already put this feature one the OneNote (Windows Key + S) years ago and it is so great feature.

Why we have to be hang in text mode chatting only still in year 2011?

And those who says "use the whiteboard" it helps of course, but later when you read your conversation it is so much easier to follow what has been discussed in correct chronology.

We can already drag'n drop the files into chat, but no pictures..

The another missing feature is WYSIWYG (What you see is what you get). I mean, if you type a message, you cannot never know what the Lync will sent into another side. Basically I would like to see the smilies/emoticons at written time, not after "send".

So if here is anybody how can participate to the TAP program for the Wave 15 or anybody from the developer team, could you rise up these features, please.

Plus one for this idea. I am looking for print screen right away instead of using white board. Also waiting for the smiley to appear before hit the send button. But the latter is not that urgent though.

As the CTO of my company, I'm driving the move from IBM Sametime to Lync. Sorry to say that Microsoft, but IBM Sametime has already this option, which we are using intensively to quickly exchange information. And this is preventing us to migrate !... and the whiteboard is for us not an option.

Any idea or any plan to add that ? or is there any official Enhancement Request program ?

Thanks.

I have actually asked this using the official path, but answer has been like: "dream on....". They had some strange arguments for that, and when I try to clarify what their answer meant, I get nothing.

So unfortunately we are still hanging with Lync in year 1993 when text based chat was something new. Because the Lync client 2013 preview have no improvements on that :(

Reply:

This is actually very bad feature. Basically with the Lync you never know how your message looks like on the recipient's site. If you are Finnish like me, you know how bad this is for our language. We are using in our language lot of ":ssa" ":s" ":ssä" etc... for make words shorten. Think about how the message looks like with the following text: "Every 100 car is red" ---> "Joka 100:s auto on punainen."

And what is even more sad, think about the solution:

if (isThereASpaceBeforeTheEmoticonPattern = true)
    ShowEmotIcon()
else
    doNotShowEmotIcon()
end if

But let's not give up...

Connect Microsoft Account to Domain account

Question: Can I sync my PC settings if I connect my Microsoft Account (previously called Windows Live ID) to my domain log in?

Answer:

  1. Bring up the charms bar, and select Settings, then select More PC settings.

  2. Select Users.

  3. Under "Connect your domain account to your Microsoft account to sync PC settings," select Connect.

  4. The "Connect your Microsoft Account" wizard appears as a strip across the center of the screen. From the options shown below, choose which shared settings you want to sync between the PCs you use. The options are all checked by default.

    • Personalize
    • App Settings
    • Desktop personalization
    • Ease of Access
    • Other Windows settings
    • Language preferences
    • Sign-in info
  5. After clicking Next on the previous screen, enter the email address and password for your Microsoft Account and click Next.

  6. Add cell phone and alternate email address, if this is not already configured in your Microsoft Account and click Next.

  7. Click Finish on the confirmation screen. The change takes effect immediately and you do not need to sign out.

It does help in the Administrative Tools - Computer Management, if you have not already; configured the Adminstrator and it's privileges, Users and its privileges.  Remember - this is a BETA mode; so  by all means be careful in this area of configuration and settings and there the Connection and Live Settings will be fit accordingly.  I have my own Server split (unless you know how to build your own Server you can still have Win 7 and Win 8 BETA - with the BIOS configuration in the boot mode so that you can boot up in either Win 7 or Win 8; I know I am on Win 7 right now because I need to download some more Win 8 BETA to add on to the Server, I confess, I messed up *grins*).

I do want to put some EMPHASIS on this end here on those who are running on Split Servers because you have made a valid point there, for I have found in BIOS configuration for Win 8 very tricky - I am running on a very powerful x86 (32 bit) OS even though everything is geared up for 64 bit OS but it is working and running smoothly.

It does pay to heed that area, in addition to that extension of the Windows Firewall - I noticed in the registry (this might be a x86 / 32 bit OS issue here and not a 64 bit issue); but what is marked in the normalcy is ="true", extension ends up ="false" which ends up in corruption or errors, just a simple fix of correction of fixing that ext. of that Win 8 firewall extension from "false" to "true" to make it equal; worked.

But in addendum --> There is this Nuget issues, if you have not looked at the latest update of its known issues and downloaded the hotfix or read up on it, this also resolved and fixed this "Connection" and "Live" issues.

Don't forget to reboot after the configurations have been done.

When I first connected the Developer Preview of Windows 8 to the Internet, I tied my domain login to a Microsoft Account. After I installed Consumer Preview on a machine, I found that when I associated the account again (this time, not associated with a domain account), all the settings transferred to the new system. I think what is going to happen is that the Microsoft accounts are going to be somewhat independent of the domain accounts, and its going to be a bit of a dual credentials system, being that anything web facing or Metro UI facing is going to be setup to use the Microsoft Account and the items in the background for management and other tasks, as well as accessing files and resources, are going to be tied between the two. I am not an authority on this though, so this is just speculation, but I can say that the Microsoft Account joined with a ADDS account does work as advertised.

Once we join a Win8 machine to our domain and group policy is processed all metro apps stop working. This happens in the new release as well. See this thread:

I have the issue also.  Even though I can log in to Windows Live, I cannot join my Windows Account to my domain Account.

One clue is an error message I saw in a fresh install of Windows 8 RP that said something like "The app failed to launch because UAC is disabled".

OK.  So I changed my group policy to not disable UAC.

It did not help.  I still cannot link the two accounts.

Is there anything else I can try?

------------------------------------
Reply:
So to follow up on this, yes, you can connect and sync PC settings between PCs in Windows 8 Release Preview, and in fact they don't have to even be connected to the domain to sync the settings between the computers, just not MS has added in that there needs to be a trust relationship to sync saved passwords between Windows 8 machines is really the only difference. For example, I had to trust both of them in the my Windows Live account profile, but my laptop that I don't have attached to the domain for some testing sends and receives updated settings from my desktop that is connected to our internal domain. Also, I think this is different than the Consumer Preview, but I could be wrong, it looks as if MS made it so that everything communicates with their servers through https and http in the Release Preview, and maybe the issue you were having before was it was a port that was needed open. Just a thought on that one.

------------------------------------
Reply:

The trust relationship, that's the rub.

My trusts are messed up because of a non-existent, obsolete email address that Live ID wants to use for all confirmations.

None the less, I was able to do a fresh install, log in with my Live ID, and then join the domain.  The IDs appear to be linked and I can run apps on the new PC.

------------------------------------
Reply:

I thought I had achieved the connection on a fresh install but it turned out that once I joined the domain and logged in with my domain ID I ended up with two IDs on the machine.

I continued to play with it and I finally did it!

I also have the problem of unable to run any Metro app once Win8 machine is joined to domain and group policy is processed.

I was trying to track down the various errors in the event logs that happened when I tried.  One of these was DistributedCOM event 10001.  I searched and found Event ID 10001 — COM General Functionality.  Resources did not seem to be the problem so I went to the bottom, step 5 of Verify:  "confirm that Access Permissions and Launch and Activation Permissions properties are set properly".

I did not know what was proper so I just made sure that Activated Users had access and launch permissions by adding that group.

I tried opening up PC Settings using the Charms Bar and to my surprise, it opened.  Not only that but when I clicked Users it had the "Connect your domain account to your Microsoft account" button.  And when I clicked it, it worked.

Note, I still cannot go to the Store.

Cant access local resources via public Ip address or redirected domain name.

I have seen this a few times primarily with Comcast clients. Comcast says its not them.

If i configure a network resource to be accessible via the internet I can access them via static IP address or domain name pointing to that network via any 3rd party isp connection. However if I try to access those devices using the same IP addresses or domain name from a computer on that same network i cant get to it. I have to used the local Ip addresses.

In the past I have found work around with remote desktop connections or ip cameras. ( make two different shortcuts) but Now I have two laptops configured for IMAP to a local exchange server. Outlook works via 3rd party isp but not when the laptop is at the office on that same network.

Chrome Web Store equivalent for IE?

I developed an extension (google dictionary + wordlist at  Google dict for IE). Do we have  IE web store that is similar to Chrome Web store?

By the way,  if anyone wants to develop a browser plug-in, I strongly recommend http://crossrider.com/ . You write once and it runs on IE, Chrome and Firefox. Particularly, you can use the jquery and all javascript stuff. Debugging is also awesome.

Exchange 2007 Conference Room Availbity Time

Good Morning Everyone -

Exchange 2010 install within an Exchange 2003 forest

I am installing exchange 2010 inside an organization which exchange 2003 already exists.

I ready the following article:

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/forums/en-us/exchangesvrmigration/thread/BA1BE8A1-19DD-48E6-B6D2-2A619108E2D8

Which says to remove ADC components.

My question is when this is removed how does exchange 2003 function with Active directory since the components were removed?

Thanks,

Richard

Reply:

ADC was there so that Exchange 5.5 could talk to AD and vice versa since 5.5 has its own directory and was needed for upgrades to Exchange 2000 and 2003. If you upgraded sucessfully from to 2003 from 5.5, those connectors should have already been removed. Exchange 2003 integrates with AD and doesnt use or need the ADC.

TMG 2010 Lync Simple URLs Certificate

I only have one issue to deal with before i consider my setup all done.  My Lync 2010 Server uses a Root CA Certificate from our local CA Server, those using the Lync CLient go without issues, but of course external uses have to "trust" the certificate, I purchased a godaddy cert but TMG 2010 wont let me apply it because public key is not exportable, but when i created it i did have the option set

Ideas?

Reply:

Can you get the cert reissued from GoDaddy? This is normally a free service and should allow you to recreate new public and privtate keys...

What specific cert errors do you get in TMG?

Ive re keyed that certificate numberous times also re managed and they cancealed the old printing a new, TMG just wont let me assign it to the listener.  When I put the godaddy cert on the front end address book issues started and users were prompted for username password for response groups, going back to the CA Cert all those issues went away

This is an easy fix. Open the certificate and copy the serial number. Then open command prompt and type the following

certutil –repairstore my "serialnumber" without the quotes and remove spaces in the serial number.

That will fix it so it can then be applied to the listener.

Debugging bootmgfw.efi x64 with windbg

I recently have tried to debug bootmgfw.efi x64 version of Windows 8.

I use last debugging tools (Windbg x64) for Windows 8 from a windows 7 station (x64).

So i used bcdedit to enable bootdebug on {bootmgr} partition, serial as debug type, debugport 2 and baudrate at 115200.

Next i ran "windbg.exe -k com:port=\\.\pipe\kdebug,baud=115200,pipe,reconnect" command to connect to the debugger stub and i have this message.

InfoPath 2010 + MOSS 2007 + WebServices

Hi Guys,

I'm a 'sharepointer' starting to use InfoPath - and I'm feeling it's a so powerful tool!

After some days creating basic forms I started to trying something more 'advanced'.

I can connect my forms to SharePoint Lists, databases, validating data, and recently playing with webservices - that's the problem...

By reading many articles on web, I can connect to UserProfiles and get some user information with no code approach. Simple and easy.

Is it possible to do the same with other SharePoint web services? I'm trying to get for example, the lists from a site, or sites from a web application, but without any good result. As I'm looking, I'll need to do it with .net, is it?

Thanks in advance!

Thanks your quick answer ;p

For example, to get all lists from a site - I'm trying to use webs.asmx and the method GetWebCollection.

Not sure how to proceed to get the lists using the InfoPath Data Connection Wizard. I can expand Datafields, some more levels and just it. Any option or any filter is available...

I'm not sure if I'm doing it right, or it's the best method. But I'm stucked on this part.

Instead, to get users information from UserProfiles, no problem!

Thanks for your answer Alexandru!

I've tried with GetListCollection before, but the main problem is not how to connect (I'm not having any problem with it), but how to and format/ show the data using InfoPath.

Do I need to code something? Or is there a way to do it without with a no code approach, like this example:

InfoPath not correct generate the xsd result for GetListCollection . To use results you need to modify GetListCollectionN.xsd from your xsn file(xsn = zip). Open GetListCollectionN.xsd and modify all old element named GetListCollectionResult

Old:

 <s:element minOccurs="0" maxOccurs="1" name="GetListCollectionResult"> <s:complexType mixed="true"> <s:sequence> <s:any /> </s:sequence> </s:complexType> </s:element>

To new

<s:element minOccurs="0" maxOccurs="1" name="GetListCollectionResult"> <s:complexType> <s:sequence> <s:element minOccurs="1" maxOccurs="1" name="Lists"> <s:complexType> <s:sequence> <s:element minOccurs="0" maxOccurs="unbounded" name="List"> <s:complexType> <s:attribute name="Title" type="s:string"/> </s:complexType> </s:element> </s:sequence> </s:complexType> </s:element> </s:sequence> </s:complexType> </s:element>

save file, and repack your xsn file.

Open the form in designer and you`ll see the element Title. You can add other elements like ID, DefaultUrl ...

Thanks Alexandru! Now I can select all fields I need!!

But thinking about the whole work do it (details here):

- Extract files;
- Edit files manually using a text editor;
- Use makecab (and some commands) to generate the InfoPath form again...

Is this by design (or there's another way to do it)? It occurs only with GetListCollection method (or most of all)?

I know, so many question for a thread, but I hope to be a better 'infopather' a day ;p

Thanks again!

SQL server 2008R2 replication

Hi there ,

I have some queries regarding SQL replication, lets say transactional replication. Just assume i do have 2 servers A and B respectively. A is Distributor as well as Publisher and B is subscriber. I do a replication of a test DB and imagine its working well. But when my Server A is downthen i should manually switch to the server B as active. So, after maintaining server A and making it running will it replicate the DB automatically or i should do some kind of manual job. Well i want to know how it's behave.

Hi Ishuv,

After you server A come back online it will start the replication again. But considering your solution I would suggest you to got for Merge replication. Because, changes on both side will be replicated. I suggest you to read the following links to understand replication:

How Transactional Replication Works

How Merge Replication Works

Hi Basit,

OK i got it, Merge replication replicates data from both side either client hit the data to the subscriber or to the publisher it will communicate with each other. But what if in transactional replication publisher as well as distributor server got down. And i will connect to the Subscriber to run the application. So how to replicate it again to the subscriber server after it is maintained, either by manually or if possible automatically. Any opinion rather than using Merge replication?

Hello,

You mean to say the changed data from the subscriber side will be intact at the publisher side when it get synched.

Not in transactional replication, but yes in merge replication.

I am talking about transactional replication. What should be done, if the publisher and distributer shuts down then there will be downtime unless it comes up isn't it . So is there any kind of solution for this if not then it a big trouble.

Regards, Ishuv

Reply:

If you publisher and distributor is down in transactional replication than this means your subscriber will not get updates until they are online. If you made any changes to subscriber then it will not be replicated to distributor.

Obviously it will not get update, means how could it get updated when both Publisher and distributor are down because on top of that some application will run and when both are down then from the client side the application wont find a DB to hit. I think you ain't got what my query is? Anyway thanks for your cooperation.

Basit is correct. If Server A goes down and your application connects to Server B and make 20 changes (for example), these 20 changes will remain in Server B and never move back to Server A. When Server A comes back online these changes will still remain in Server B. If you repoint your application back to Server A, there is nothing that will move the changes which originated at Server B back to Server A.

What you are talking about is failback.

Merge Replication will do failback but it is generally not considered to be a good choice here. You might also want to look at bi-directional transactional replication.

Note that the best technology for something like this is clustering or mirroring which will do client redirection.

You'll need Windows 7 for Media Player 12.

What happens when you try to download Media Player 11?
