Vista 64 sp2 beta .ISO is corrupted!
I have downloaded it 3 times, and each time I can neither extract, mount or burn the .ISO.
Reply:
Not just the 64 bit, but the 32 bit ISO is also corrupt. I have downloaded it 4 times on two different computers, and tried to burn it with (2) different applications. All of them fail.
I am downloading the file called:

Hello all,
Jenn this mean it's not the one we can install/test right ?
If so it's weird cause from MSDN download site i just can't see the right SP2 to download I only see some Vista rls with the SP2 Beta integrated.
Thanks !

If you are looking for just the service pack you don't have that yet, all that's in the library are the integrated images (Vista + Service Pack 2).
The Service Pack 2 Update Package (just the Service Pack) is coming later today. It will be available in the Download Center and we also provide you with an option to install through Windows Update. Please check the TechNet SP2 CPP landing pages for additional content and links later in the day. http://technet.microsoft.com/windows/dd262148

Enterprise Compliance Solution
I was interested to hear about the compliance solution you are working on. We have a SAAS solution built in .NET and SQL Server that addresses big chunks of the governance, risk and compliance headaches companies face. I am wondering if there are ways we could extend it to integrate into some of the management and security features that are in various Microsoft products or perhaps into this new solution you are working on so that it could better solve our client's problems. Have you guys published any details on your solution yet? Please let me know if there are ways to get involved.
Thanks.

I need some information on patching in Sql server,i have never worked on this aspect of Sql Server.like when do you need to apply patches?
Do you apply patches as soon as you build a new server?
Please Advice

Reply:
Sure, you should always make sure that you are at the most recent patch level (for SPs, for CU you might only want to apply them if you have problem in the covered hotfix problems)

I have newly installed instance of SQL Server 2005 SP2. Can you tell me what are the "must have" updates/patches that should be applied to this instance.
I see that there are following two security updates available. The publishing date for these two differs by a single day. My question is: do I need to apply both separately or they are cumulative updates (if I apply KB948109 it automatically applies KB948108)?
Security Update for SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 2 (KB948108)
Security Update for SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 2 (KB948109)
Thanks.

UHD,
Have a look at:
Microsoft Security Bulletin MS08-040 – Important: Vulnerabilities ...
and expand the FAQ section. It shows that 948108 is for builds ending in 3150-3230 and 948109 is for builds ending in 3042-3067. You apply the one appropriate to your build number which can be found with SELECT @@VERSION.

Well, you should take a look on the CU8 which contains all the recent updates.

Jen, after reading this thread I have decided not to apply CU8 since we are not experiencing any problems that are fixed in CU8. I guess we will wait for SP3. Do you know when it is going to be released?

- SP3 Beta provides a roll-up of QFE work done since SP2, as well as addresses critical issues reported through the SQL Server community. Per revised servicing strategy for SQL Server releases, SP3 does not introduce new features.
- SP3 Beta applies to:
- SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition
- Server 2005 Enterprise Evaluation Edition
- SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition
- SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition
- SQL Server 2005 Workgroup Edition
- SP3 is expected to RTM in CY 2008.

Since SP3 will be RTM soon I want to wait and install SP3 RTM even thougt it only includes CU-9 downwards (not CU-10 which i want). I'll then install "CU-1 for SP3" which I hope will include the fix I need in CU-10 for SP2. That way I don't have to install a big CU (CU-10 for SP2) but only the small CU-1 for SP3. I assume installing CU-10 on SP3 is not recommended (or even not possible). All this is based on http://support.microsoft.com/kb/935897/LN/
Can someone confirm that my reasoning is ok?
Do you know what is the expect delay between SP3 and CU-1 for SP3?
I hope all is clear, if not let me know!
Thanks!

WebPart Custom Property & .NET Validators
I have created a WebPart and registered in MOSS 2007. I can see and use the webpart in my page. I have couple of issues with the WebPart in Design mode. The webpart is derived from BaseSkinnedWebPart (from CodePlex) and the skin is added properly. I can use the webpart without any issue.
1. Custom Properties. I have declared 4 custom properties in the webpart. But none of them is showing in the Properties window. I removed the assembly from the assemblies folder and reinstalled the WebPart assembly just to make sure that is not the issue. Here is how I have declared the custom property.
[
Browsable(true), Category("Team Foundation Server"), DefaultValue(""), WebPartStorage(Storage.Personal), << Tried "Shared" too.. FriendlyName("Project Name"), Description("ProjectName Property")] public string ProjectName{
get { return _projectName; } set { _projectName = value; }}
After reinstall, I don't see "Team Foundation Server" catagory in the properties window. Am I doing anything wrong?
2. .NET Validators - I have RequiredFieldValidators attached to the controls in the WebPart. But, whenever I tried to publish the page, the validation kicks in and shows error (in design mode). I have set the ValidationGroup properly and yet, the validation kicks in. Is there any way to tell MOSS not to cause validation in design mode?
I appreciate any help. Thanks in Advance.

Deploying using MDT
i used MDT to capture an image of a reference computer to deploy to a target computer
i am trying to deploy using LiteTouch.
i followed instructions on the MDT documentation but encountered problems.
here's what i did:
> A lab environment composed of 2 terminals was setup
> Installation of the following were successful:
Required components: MSXML 6.0, .net Framework 2.0 and MMC 3.0
Deployment Tools: Microsoft Deployment Toolkit (MDT) and Windows Automated Installation Kit (WAIK)
> Creation of Distribution Share, OS list, Addition of other application (i.e. WinZip), Task Sequence, and Deployment Points were successful.
> Installation of initial ISO image to Reference Computer was successful.
We were able to capture the image using MDT. However upon deployment to target PC, it can now see the captured image but when we tried to install it, it looks for the setup files and consequently, the windows server we setup containing the images and tools crashes.
i repaired the OS, installed service pack and retried but same problem was encountered.
note: we moved the setup files upon creation of the task sequence

Configure DNS Zone as Forest Wide Replication
I have just setup a simple two tree forest with a transative trust between the two tree's. I need to configure DNS on both domains to be able to resolve the other domains name records. I could setup a Stub Zones or Forwarders, however instead I wanted to configure the DNS zones to replicate to all domains in the forest, instead of all domains just in the current domain. When I set this up I get the following error:
"The replication scope could not be set. For more information, see "DNS zone replication in Active Directory" in Help and Support. The error was:
There was a server failure.
What I did on the Domain Naming master in domain1.local was try and be smart and:
- Convert the zone to Standard Primary
- Delete the DomainDNSZones and ForestDNSZones using ADSI edit from Configuration/Partitions.
- Change the DNS Zone domain.local back to AD Integrated, and set the replication scope to "All DNS Servers in the AD Forest"
This worked for that one domain. I then wanted the domain naming master to push these new DomainDNSZone and ForestDNSZone partitions accross to dmoain2.local so I used replmon, connected to the DC in domain1.local that had the domain naming master, clicked "Synchronize Each Directory Partition with All Servers", and configured it in Push Mode and cross site boundaries.
I got a KCC (eventid: 1926) error saying that the source domain controller (guid)._msdcs.domain.local is a mitch match in the directory partition (duh). I thought replmon would have overwritten it. I cant manually change the guid to match as the other domain is not the domain naming master. Is there anyway to revert this change, additionally how am I ment to make my DNS zones have forest wide replication?
Thanks in advance.

Lower Threshold on Helpful Posts
Despite the fact that voting helpful is more discoverable than before, this option is not often chosen. At least I don't think so -- it's not so easy to tell, because filtering by helpful shows so few entries.
I really don't see why just one helpful vote should not cause the thread to marked as helpful.
[On the other hand, a single Propose as answer (a useless feature) is enough to get the thread marked with Propose as answer.
Similarly for Has Code (another useless feature, partly because the code editor is so bad that I ,for one, never use it).]

ASP.NET identities (IIS_WPG, IUSR, etc.)
I can't find a better plac to discuss about a quite the issue I still can't really understand despite reading many material found on the web.
So I'd like to understand exactly under which identities an ASP.NET application is running, especially whenit comes to access files and folders (which need ACL fine tuning). One could expect to be NETWORK SERVICE (IIS_WPG group) or IUSR_machinename, etc. but what happens exactly, and under which condition ?
Let fisrt assume the environment is IIS v6 and ASP.NET 1.1
The question is what are all possible scenarios and for each of them, which identity is used ?
Thank you not to post too obvious (and not so relevant) links (I've already done quite a lot of "Googling").

On the other hand, kudos to the install team. SQL Server 2008 is much easier to install and much more transparent about its install actions than 2005. Microsoft already had the smoothest installer, and it just got better. Thanks.

Problems!!!
This is going to be a stupid question, but I am computer challenged and need some input. I recently had my computer set to factory pre-set after I had gotten a virus in the start-up menu. I tried logging into Microsoft Word, but it keeps asking for a product code. I never received a disk for this computer and frankly I have no idea what they are talking about. I am a college student with kids in high school. We all need this program for school. Id there a way for me to get the code or should I just buy a new Word program that includes Power Point ( which this one does not)? I thank you all in advance for your advice!

Hi Mrs.K, after checking the issue, it seems this is a general Office issue. As this forum focuses on Windows SteadyState specific issues, this inquiry would best be posted to Office newsgroup:
