moving from KMS Server on Windows 2003 to Windows 2008

Complete Backup 0x800ffff and System Restore 0x81000202

I'm having real issues with Vista Complete back up. I normally back up every day and i went to back up today and i receive this message. 'Windows could not find backup devices. The following information may explain why this error occured. catastrophic error 0x800FFFF' 

The strange thing is that if i look in 'My Computer' 'Device Manager' and 'Bios' all my disk drives are there. I have always backed up onto my second 500gb HD and it has always worked. I have even tried plugging in another HD with different cables to save the back up to this disk and do a restore. However, this disk isn't detected by the complete back up either. In fact not even my 2 DVD drives or my flash drive. 

Also when i try the System Restore Utility it reads this.

'The was an unexpected error on the property page

The Volume Shadow Copy service used by System restore is not working. For more information view the event log (0x81000202)'


I have searched for hours for a fix and it seems I'm stumped. This is a real problem now as i deleted the back up of my OS to see if this would change the problem. 

Can anybody help me, PLEASE?

Although this request to remove the best posters for *2007* seems very justified, it would have a more positive feel to it if you'd started it with the word "Please" and finished it with some explanation such as "as it is well past its sell-by time" (or similar phrase).

As it is written now you are *demanding* that it be moved. That one small word "please" would make a lot of difference to the way the message comes across.

1. When I was a mid-school student, one of my teachers told us that it is unrespectfull to tell someone that he is rude. So I feel that , if you'd be right, you'd be unrespectfull.
2. I know that in the American culture it is a good habit to tell "please" very often. You have to understand that this forum is used not only by US citizens, though. I, for example, feel that I should say "please" only when I ask for help, not when I help others. I see no reason to try and help someone and also beg him hear my advice. It is not in the way I see things. 
3. If a moderator from that forum will come across my post, he/she will know why that thread should not be sticky. If he/she don't realize why, then he/she shouldn't be a moderator. I don't feel like losing my time with explanations I shouldn't give.

You're aware of the Moderators forum - you've posted there before.  Why didn't you post this there?  And not to fan the flames, but "please" is an appropriate convention for the entire English language - not just for US citizens.  "Please" and "thank you" aren't reserved for "self serving" requests - basically, any time you ask somebody to do something, "please" is a good idea.  I am Canadian, and I deal with English-speaking people from a number of countries - they all use "please" and "thank you" for any and all requests.

Mike's response to your post was actually quite diplomatic, and it seems to me that he was honestly trying to help bridge a language barrier.  It was not an insult, though your response could certainly be interpreted as such.

I an not an american nor any other english speaking country citizen. I'll only use please if I ask someone to help me. This is how I feel and think (although I understand your and Mike's point) and if anyone has a problem with that, that's it. I had no intention to insult Mike or any one of you. I also thanked him for taking the time to reply, so let's not make a big deal (flame) out of this.

I'm not sure that I agree.  The description on this forum is "Give us your feedback and suggestions for new or improved functionality in these forums".  This doesn't relate to new or improved functionality.  I simply referred you to the Moderator's forums because that is the most appropriate venue for contacting other moderators. 

To be clear, my post wan't intended to be a flame either, and I'm sorry if you saw it as such.  I was simply trying to assist in what seemed to be a breakdown in communication.

Installing Agent

When I try to install the agent on one of many PC's I get this following message:
 

The MOM Server failed to perform specified operation on computer PC21-101.canada.scholasticinc.local.

Operation: Agent Install

Install account: CANADA\administrator

Error Code: 80070033

Error Description: Windows cannot find the network path. Verify that the network path is correct and the destination computer is not busy or turned off. If Windows still cannot find the network path, contact your network administrator.

your issue is not with the SCE console but with your network

the error message indicates that it cannot find PC21-101.canada.scholasticinc.local

3 most likley reasons for this

1) Can not resolve hostname
        To test this, from the SCE server run in command prompt: nslookup PC21-101.canada.scholasticinc.local
        If you can not resolve the DNS name, check both DNS and DHCP for the proper settings, also be sure your SCE server is utilizing the proper DNS server
2) Can not communicate with the host
        To test this, from the SCE server run in command prompt: ping PC21-101.canada.scholasticinc.local
        If you can not ping, but you do get an IP, then be sure the computer is powered on
3) Firewall is deployed
        If the machine is on, but still can not communicate, then the firewall is preventing communication with the host.
        Be sure the computer is in the SCE_managed_computers group, this will allow for an exception, run gpupdate /force and possibly reboot. If this still does not work, try disabling the firewall service to deploy the agent, then re-enable the service

How and where can I check the DNS and DHCP for proper settings and how can I be sure that my SCE 2007 server is utilizing the proper DNS server?

I followed # 2 and on the SCE 2007 sever I ran a command and ping PC21-101.canada.scholasticinc.local
and I did get replied back and the Ip address.

I followed # 3 and yes this computer is in the SCE_managed_computers group BUT under "Health State" this computer is showing "Error".

I also have many computers that are under "Administration" tab and showing under "Pending Management" as follow and how can I fix this following issues?

Type: Agent Requires Update (39) 
Type: Agent License Limit Exceeded (3) 

I am sure we have plenty PC names that are not even in use but showing up on the SCE 2007 so how can I clean up so that I onoy have what is in use?

For optimal performance, you should use dynamic SQL for doing this kind of search criteria.  You can look at the following example:

Windows Server 2008 Feature Request

I just posted my feature request for Windows Server 2008 at Microsoft Connect, but I thought I'd post it in this forum too.

Windows Server 2008 should support up to 5 CPUs on one motherboard. I think currently it supports 2 CPUs.

Large websites usually have a cluster of servers because one dedicated server is not powerful enough to handle millions of users online at the same time. A cluster of servers are a group of dedicated servers working as one. If Windows Server 2008 supported motherboards with up to 5 CPUs then people with large websites would not need as much servers which would keep costs down. And motherboard manufacturers probably don't make motherboards that support 5 CPUs because Windows doesn't support that many CPUs on one motherboard.

 I am new to windows server 2008.  PLease help me on the following:

1.  How To Force Adding Of Domain Admin Group to Local Admin Group?

Our objectives follow:

 

a.  For the domain user/groups to be a local admin so that it can open quickbooks software.  Quickbooks software runs only in local admin account.

 

b.  can a domain user also log-in to local computer (laptop) even if not networked?  our laptops are always brought outside the office so it uses local (client) user.  Thus it is impractical to control once the laptop is brought outside the office.


2.       can a user access multiple shared folders by just clicking one desktop icon? how?  Which means such user can only view the folder he can access.

an update for Article 906866

Hi,
Recently I installed some distributions of linux and tried to read those file systems in windows. This was successful until now that installing one more distro causes the blue screen window says: NO_MORE_IRP_STACK_LOCATIONS.

I found a solution of that this error in Article 906866, which is applied to non-vista operating systems according to bottom section of that. I successfully have applied the registry manipulation (DsfIrpStackSize) and now the problem
has been solved.

I want to tell moderators that Article ID: 906866 has to be updated, because this solution is applicable to vista SP1 (mine is home premium).

Why do I not see the Execute Task menu on individual task anymore?

Why do I not see the Execute Task menu on individual task anymore?  I used to be able to run the SSIS one task at a time but that has disappeared on one of my SSIS scripts.  It appears I can still do it on the other scripts in my project but just not the one I am working on.  Is this a setting someplace or something?  I have tried restarting VS etc...

Visual Studio crash upon saving SSIS project

Hi,

Today when I opened an SSIS project in Visual Studio and tried to save it the VS environment crashed. I tried a couple of more times but with the same result. I then tried to create a basic project from scratch without any tasks etc and tried to save it, but with no luck either. This has worked before and I do not know if the cause is any Windows update or similar. I was wondering if anyone else have had the same experience on a Vista x64 machine running VS 2008 and SSIS 2008?

The event viewer gives the following error messages upon VS crash:

.NET Runtime version 2.0.50727.3053 - Fatal Execution Engine Error (71EB7706) (80131506)

How to assign tab1 -id values to tab2-id,tab3-id

HI All,

 

I have  3 tables
tab1- id,col2,col3
tab2-col1,clo2,id,clo4
tab3-col1,id

In this id of tab1 is same as id of tab2  and id of tab3
Now how to assign tab1 id values to tab2-id,tab3-id and there is no common fields except  id field.
So plz help me and try to send  code ASAP I need to implement this in SSIS

Unfortunately, you've phrased your question incomprehensibly.

 

I can understand that:

a) you have three tables

b) each table has an ID column that is related to the other tables

c) there are other columns in each table

 

Please try describing your problem again.  I don't understand what you mean by "assigning id values" from one table to another - since that's how you're relating the tables together... I think.

What you understood is exactly correct.

 

I need to pull  tab1 ID column values to tab2,tab3 columns, there is no common columns between these tables except ID column

That's great that I understood that far - but I can't help you if I don't know more, like I said before.  What is the problem?

Perhaps if you posted an example with some sample data from tables 1, 2, and 3, and then showed us what you wanted the resulting table/tables/? to look like.

Execute SQL Task Error

 
Hi guys,

I created a package from the import/export wizard and the first step is to drop multiple tables.

I keep getting the following error no matter what I try, however, if I run the SQL in a query window it works absolutely fine?

[Execute SQL Task] Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt.". Possible failure reasons: Problems with the query, "ResultSet" property not set correctly, parameters not set correctly, or connection not established correctly.

Appreciate any thoughts.

Help needed with 0xc000000f, Downloaded vista sp1, now stuck in boot screen

PC specs are dual core 2.6, 3gb ram, geforce 640mb 8800 gts. Im using an abit fatality motherboard and phoenix award bios. The OS is vista 32 home premium.

I decided to use microsoft update last night to install vista sp1. It downloaded and I let it install, it got to stage 3 eventually and then all of a sudden said it failed to install and was reverting back to what it was previously. My PC then booted up in safe mode and i restarted it in normal mode. Before I can get to normal windows desktop I am always now stuck at this black screen of windows boot manager with 3 options

At the bottom it says enter = continue or esc = exit. Ive tried with 3 different keyboards, older and newer and none are letting me continue or escape in that windows boot manager screen/

I tried fixing it by putting in that installation disc. It went to the same screen.
I then went into bios>advanced bios features> and making the first boot device the cd rom.
Then - just before the windows boot manager screen it says booting from cd.. the cd whizzes, then it says "push any key to boot from cd or dvd" .....but whatever keys I push the PC does not respond and it takes me back to this same screen.

I cannot get in safe mode.
Im totally stuck on this screen.
I've read all the other 0xc000000f soltutions but they seem to fix XP and people who can get to their desktop, and I cannot.
Help and solutions would really make my new year!!

The dvd is a live recovery environment and has nothing to do with any errors you are experiencing with your operating system. By what you explain the issue lies with the dvd check the dvd for any scratches or marks and clean it. Because your optical isn't reading the disc it reverts back to the old boot configuration data giving you the error. Also if you can try another Vista dvd and then try and repair.

Thanks for the help. I checked the vista install dvd for any scratches and theres nothing. I got it in July 2007 and its literally only been taken out of its case twice for reformats - one taking place 6 few months ago, another about 3 weeks ago. Ive just tried a vista ultimate cd which is brand new but im getting the same problem.

Ive never felt the optical has had any problems with reading cds.

Still stuck, other ideas?

Recycle Bin Restore

I went to delete something out of my Recycle Bin, and hit Delete instead of Empty Recycle Bin.  If this has happened to you, the Recycle Bin can be recovered.

On your desktop, right click to get the box that says "personalize".  Personalize will appear near the bottom.

Left Click on Personalize

Under Tasks, near the upper left, left click on Change Desktop Icons.

Select "Recycle Bin" in the box so their is a checkmark.

Left click on "OK"

That's it.  Your Recycle Bin is now restored to your desktop.

Unable to see other Vista machine on new network.

Hi

I have just changed around my network. I was previously using the built in DNS and firewall capability of my cable modem and had this hooked up to a simple switch. With this setup both my Vista machines could easily see each other and I had no issues sharing files.

Due to a number of reasons I have changed the config of my cable modem to make it just a pass-through modem and bought a router (SMC Barricade-G) to manage the network and firewall tasks. When setting up, due to the cabling in my house I was also forced to keep the original switch in the network to service a couple of remote devices, including the one of the Vista machines. 

The setup up is modem to WAN port of router, 1 Vista computer and a NAS device connected to local ports on router. Switch connected to local port of router with other Vista machine and another NAS device connected to the switch.

Now neither vista machine can see the other. If I view the full network map from the Network and Sharing Centre I can see both Vista machines but with two switches in between. The other interesting thing is that I cannot ping one Vista machine from the other but am able to ping any of the NAS devices on the network regardless of where from. The only difference is the NAS devices have a fixed IP address whilst the Vista machines are assigned their IP address by the DNS server in the router.

Any suggestions on how I can resolve this?

Before moving on troubleshooting, could you please confirm the following questions?

 

1.       Are these computers in the same subnet and workgroup?

2.       Can you ping other computers by using IP address?

 

If possible, could you please run command IPCONFIG /ALL on every computer and post the results on the forum.

 

Once I get information, I will do a further research on the problem.
