SSRS Excel Rendering Cell Formatting Errors
I have a data driven subscription report that outputs several reports into Excel, the reports have been running for 3 months without any problems. One of the fields in a report is a boolean field that is converted to "Yes", "No" in SSRS but now when it is rendering the file in Excel it is changing the True/Yes valued records to Y1900s.
When open the report online as well as rendering it into all the other types I get no error, just when I render it in Excel. Can anyone tell me why this is happening and what can I do to stop this. I am using SQL Server 2005 and 2003 excel.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Kind regards
Paul

My first guess would be that column in Excel was formatted as date. For boolean, Yes or True is 1 and No or False is 0. My recommendation is to alter your expression in RS that showing this Yes or No value to be like:
=iif(Fields!YourBooleanField.Value, "Yes", "No")
If that doesn't do it, sorry. Hope someone else could gives some insight. Good luck.

Just one question concerning SP 1. Is it possible to make upgrade from SCMDM 2008 to SCMDM SP 1 or we have to make uninstallment of 2008 and then make the new installation of SP1.
Has anyone yed made an upgrade. Please provide detaila and experience ;-)

I'm in the process of documenting the upgrade process, but I'm still waiting for SP1 to hit MSDN to be able to do the upgrade...
The short story though, you first need to run ADConfig, and then run each of the installers to upgrade (must do Device Management Server before Gateway Server).

Please provide experince after the upgrade ;-). Hopefuly we will get SP 1 from MSDN site soon.

Yes, this should be the worklist to upgrade. It's nothing "magic", but there are a number of steps that should be performed, and preferrably in the right order.

We did not upgrade so far. We are almost live with the SCMDM08. It takes allot of time and work to upgrade at this moment.
I think we wait for a while, till all documents ect are ready. But off cource i will set up and test environment to test the upgrade in our business.

Why can't I do it now, and will I ever be able to or is this something that no-one has considered necessary?

how to uninstall rising antivirus 2008
for anyone having difficulties uninstalling rising antivirus 2008 , this is how I done it. hope this is of some help to others.
I downloaded the rising antivirus on my computer using windows xp and I couldn't uninstall it. everytime I tried to it caused my pc to crash and it dumped files, i kept getting the blue screen of death, I tried everything and ran out of options. I wanted to completely remove the software.
I finally found out how to uninstall the programme, after hours of frustration. If you enter safe mode in you computer for xp users go to start and in run type msconfig, this will open a window. click on boot tab and put a tick in the box next to safe boot. click apply and ok it. reboot your pc and it should boot up in the safe mode. go to conrtol panel and click on add and remove programmes, select the software in the list and click uninstall. you can also press the f8 button on your keyboard when your pc is booting up to get into safemode. This doesnt always work that why i used the other option. On vista getting into safe mode is much easier. simply by pressing f8, or shutdown your computer abnormally and it automatically takes you to the options for safe mode. any questions please ask ill be more than happy to help.
I found removing the software rising antivirus 2008 by safe mode the only way I could do it as doing it the normal way cause my computer to shut down and dump files, all I kept getting was blue screen of death.
good luck.

Soap: More control over 'cursor' size

Reply:
Because this is a true multi-tenant service, we have to make sure that a single request cannot monopolize the resources of a given node. There are a number of ways of doing this - timeouts, throttles, and limiting the entities returned. 500 results was chosen as a good first compromise to ensure that you could not degradate the service for others by requesting 2 million entities in a go.
So, to answer the other part of this: yes, there is likely to be a way to tweak this in the future for a given range. However, we haven't heard strong feedback that this is an important consideration. I would be interested in knowing a.) what is the upper limit you think we should return, and b.) what is the scenario, so we can understand the impact.
------------------------------------
Reply:
I would like to have the Skip/Take actions to limit the search area.
If an "customer" searches in a bad way, the search are limited too 10 instead of 500 entities
and then with the skip method is there a way to ensure that the application will only read 10 enities if the customer looks at page 2 instead of improving the search (In an paging senario)
So now you can add one more feedback to this topic =)

As things stand it's taking me 20s to get 100 records back (they have largish byte arrays in them). If I could get 10 then at a time I at least have a chance of updating the UI for a user in an incremental way. I could even dynamically throttle the cursor size depending on analysis of actual retrieve time.
So for example, I would have the data gathering in one thread, getting 10 records at a time, and dispatching them over to the App to display to the user.
AS it stands the 500 is an issue in that it blows the quoted maximum of 2Mb returned out of the water depending upon your data. I've simply maxed things to 2^31-1. I do wish there was a binding in WCF that ignore many of these limits (max objects, max depth, max bytes, etc.), I spend more time tracking down these problems than I do writing the app code sometimes :-(

I'll restate that I'd like to see the option of including a MaxRows element in the request query. I ran into this use case recently when I wanted to create an RSS feed containing the first ten entities in a container. I actually get *all* of the items and throw away all but the first ten.
This could be (in my order of preference) as:
- part of the URL: /?q='.....'&maxrows=100
- part of the LINQ statement: from e in entities where .... select e, maxrows(100)
- a custom request header: x-msft-request-maxrows=100
Another item that's been discussed in this same area is a MoreRows indicator in the query response to make it easier to continue past the first "page" of data. In other words, clients would 'know' that there is at least one more row of data to retrieve instead of getting the first X (500) and then making a request even when there are no more rows on the server.
This could be (in my order of preference) as:
- a custom response (not:request) header: x-msft-request-morerows=true
- part of the payload returned <s:EntitySet more-rows="true"... />
In both cases, I think this has the potential to reduce traffic (requests and bandwidth) against the SSDS servers and reduce response/processing wait states on clients.
Thanks for listenin'

However, the original question was around the default size to send back when no modifying operations were applied to the query. It sounded to me that 500 was too few. However, after hearing the feedback, am I correct in summarizing that 500 is too many? It sounds to me like you folks are requesting a smaller number (100?) or so should be sent back. What would you prefer the default behavior to be (i.e. no modifying operations like setting a pagesize, asking for top, etc.)?
Thanks for the feedback, btw. It is great to hear specifics like this.

my most requested feature right now is the ability to pass the "TOP/MAXROWS" argument with my query. that will make a big difference to how my client apps work.
for now, i am implementing a similar functionality in my SSDS-Proxy ("x-ssds-maxrows", "x-ssds-morerows") and letting the proxy deal with the details.

I guess the issue is that it entirely depends upon the data. I was originally playing with storing images (as byte arrays) so the data dominated over the latency of the call. A quick experiment with small entities gives me 2.53s to retrive 1000 entities in 2 calls to query, and 225s to get them 1 at a time. I have a roundtrip time of ~200ms from here so clearly fewer calls is better.
So my guess is that your default of 500 is probably going to be fine for a lot of uses.

We are adding Top (Take) and orderby as part of the query and the syntax will be pretty much what you have in C#:
from e in entities orderby e.Kind, e["name"] select e
(from e in entites orderby e.Kind, e["name"] select e).Take(10)

Access to Volume Control in Steady State

Potential Solutions to Installation Issues
Anyways -- after a couple of changes I just got the application to install successfully. Couple things that I changed that might have been the issue.
I configured the server to be a Windows 2008 domain controller. I did not have a 2008 Domain controller previously so this was one step.
My VM, for some reason had the data disk/share that I was using was formatted using FAT. I had to reformat using NTFS.
After doing these 2 things the application installed successfully.
Hope this helps someone!
