Thumbnails (miniature windows) don't work on the taskbar
The shape of the black rectangle is different from time to time. Always small.
The thumbnail preview of the window content is not displaying.
I got a laptop with an ATI Radeon Mobility X700.
I installed the following drivers: Drivers Ati Catalyst 8.560.1 beta:
http://support.ati.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=894&tld=&task=knowledge&questionID=39069
Because my computer is a laptop, I had to use DH Mobility Modder:
http://www.driverheaven.net/modtool.php
Before I installed those drivers, and after I installed those drivers: no difference about the taskbar.
Asus BisonCam unsupported
http://www.touslesdrivers.com/index.php?v_page=23&v_code=19697
On a fresh install of Windows 7, it won't provide any driver for my webcam.
When installing the driver from ASUS, the webcam still won't work.
My laptop model: A6VA
Windows 7 remote desktop connection
Can't re-open multiple tabs after closing IE8
On Windows 7, using default IE8, if I have multiple tabs opened, I can close IE8 but it won't ask me anything and when I start it again all the previously opened tabs will be missing.
Generally better than Vista BUT....
1. After going into sleep mode computer would not come out of it. I had to shut down with the power switch then restart to get it back on.
2. In Control panel the view options are greyed out so they can't be changed.
3. IE locked up the computer the first time I ran it. Seems ok now though.
4. I got the wireless internet connection on my router connected easily but I'm having problems
getting the network to see the other computers.
5. Still waiting to see if the view settings are going to remain stable unlike Vista.
On the good side Windows 7 seems to run much better and faster on older equipment than Vista did.
Overall I like it so far.

Tweaking Windows 7 Beta Networks
I am currently doing so network testing between XP and Windows 7. Specifically with MMORPG's and VPN connectivity. What I have noticed is that latency is usually 60% to 70% higher when running Windows 7. What I would like to know, is there some general guidelines/tweaks that can help lower latency or since it is beta just suck it up?

Specifically with MMORPG's
Is the latency effected with the MMOs? I run a couple myself and have noticed zero difference between 7, XP and Vista in latency. Higher FPS though which is awesome but not OT.

Why do you need to adjust MTU for your VPN connection? If the VPN connection is available as another network interface, it should automatically adjust the MTU to provision for the VPN overhead, so no manual tweaks to the MTU should ever be needed.
On server side my setup is different, plus different needs demands for different setup configurations.

IIS uninstalled itself!!!
So going back into windows features shows all iis components uninstalled (Unchecked), but the containing folders has the box filled indicating it is installed (Screen shot:)
http://www.ataye.com.au/clients/Ataye/Windows Components IIS Uninstalled.jpg
IIS Management had also dissapeared from 'Admin Tools', but 'Internet Information Services' branch still exists in 'Computer Management' under Services and Applications'.
I will try to re-install all components, including the management console at the same time and see if that works. I wonder if this could be the case with modifying installed windows features, or if it is just limited to my situation??

If i cant get this workig i'll have to go back to Vista or use a virtual machine to work with web apps (Im a web app developer!!)

Black screen after install reboot, no VGA port, no CRT, low res doesn't work
Seems everyone has alternative video choices but me. I don't have a spare vid card, CRT, and my 8800GT has dual DVI, no VGA. Guess I could try a DVI-VGA converted but I don't see how that would work. I tried the low res option (F8) and I still got a black screen. I can't believe this installed beautifully in VMWare but I can't complete a native install.

Windows7 works great on Emachines EL1200-01e!
Great News : No driver downloading / interaction is neccesary! A novice computer user could even install Windows 7 on this tower without know-how. Everything supported out of the box off the ISO! (Prolly the nForce Motherboard inside)
My previous score in Vista was 2.5 and in Windows7, Its 3.0
A somewhat more speedy experience.
Im pleased with this so far. Havent really seen any issues except for theres a slight pause when I click the games folder on the start menu.

Thanks for the feedback and the tips on that system.

Multitouch touchpad and the ability to scroll through windows on the desktop
I never got this. Windows vista came out with the neat little feature where you can scroll through your windows. It looked kind of awesome, but it wasn't practical! Why? Because you had to go out of your way to find a button all the way at the bottom of the screen.
Just wasn't worth my effort to use the effect. You know I would of used this feature if Microsoft would of done one simple thing, which probably would of taken about 5 lines of code!
Isn't there a way to detect if you scroll using the middle mouse button on your desktop? Then bring up an alt-tab menu, or the previous vista scroll menu simply by spinning your middle mouse wheel? Seems really simple and would make finding your window so much easier.
- Multitouch touchpads -
Also my last request. Is there a way to turn your current touchpad and make it multitouch? I don't think it would be useful to only offer multitouch features to people with a touchscreen or tablet PC.
Why not allow users, or demonstrate these features using a common touchpad? Granted you won't be able to do everything, but it would be nice being able to increase and decrease the size of images or your browser window just by moving your fingers closer or further apart. You could also rotate selected images.

Have you tried running the program in compatibility? (Right click on the icon, and select properties, then go to the compatibility tab and select the version of Windows that it is made for.)

Yeah I started looking around their site after my post but didn't have time to change it, sorry. : (
When you installed Java did you use the online installer or did you download the EXE and run it in compatibility?

This is probably an issue with Internet Explorer 8 and that website.
Your best strategy would be to contact the support for that website and check for compatibility issues with IE8.
Hope this helps.

@ starcomusa30273: Java works fine on anything else. It's just RuneScape I'm having problems with.
I have a friend that has Windows 7 and he doesn't have any problems with RuneScape on his computer.

Windows 7(64bit) vs. Vista Ultimate (32bit)
Before testing Windows 7 I only was using Windows Vista Home Ultimate and I habe to say I were not really happy because i have had many shutdows and blue screens, my PC runs more and more slowly.
Windows 7 is starting very fast, and i can not find any performance Problems.
Among it´s good perfrmance I`m very happy about the Internet Explorer 8 because it runs faster than the 7 wich is sometimes stop while loading sites and have to be restart.
I think Windows 7 is much better than Vista but in my opinion windows 7 is Vista with fixes for many problems and a new taskbar so it`s not fair for all ista users to sell it as a new system.
So far.... sorry for my bad english and a nice day to everyone

Nforce + Linksys
Mobo = Asus Striker 2 formula , can post full stats if req.
i have tried and tested this expensive problem twice.
when i plug my onboard network cards into a linksys 24 port switch
it killed the switch , i thought it was jsut coincidence however upon replacing the switch it killed the next one to.
By kill the switch i mean every pc connected gets limited or no connectivity even upon removal of the W7 pc and rebooting of the switches
Very strange prolbme but i dont really want to blow another one >.<

I installed the 64 bit version. Everything went great............Until I installed the drivers for the onboard network adaptor.
Started the install process and it hung after several seconds. I rebooted at that point and my system would not even boot. I got the opening splash screen and progress bar for about 5 seconds and the system would hang.
I'm tripple booting XP 32 bit, XP 32 bit, and 7 64 bit.
I thought I would boot back to XP and get on the forums to see what gives. XP did not bot either.
Thought I really messed up my system.
After a fresh install on a spare hard drive of XP, I thought I would get any data that I wanted from my good XP installs and start over.
All was good until I installed the network adapter.
To make a long story short, I disabled the on board lan, and everything booted fine. I got a new pci network card and all is good.
Could it be that the drivers are causing your network card to take out the switch? Very odd indeed.
Good luck.

I have no idea what caused it , but i put a pci card in and it functions normally , i think it can only be a bug int he nforce drivers , but how it would kill a switch is beyond me .
also FYI , different cables were used to

Passphrase for network acess
connect, I get a message that I need to enter the network security key or passphrase created
when the network was created. Well, no network was created so there is no passphrase to enter.
The other problem is the network it seems to want to connect to is "name of the computer_Network"
like it is trying to connect to itself instead of the router.
Any help greatly appreciated. Been trying to get this working for days now with no luck.

Clicking in taskbar does not minimize window sometimes
- Click on an open application in the taskbar so the window is open
- Click the desktop
- Double click on the application in the taskbar.

Very buggy and will not let you loose.
Had to clear every thing in my temp file and folders.
Now I am looking at the sign in.
All I can say is my bad.
Sorry

Windows Media Burn Software
Will be nice if Windows 7 include and Media burn software, so we don't have to look for 3rd party software to burn iso .
