Hi,

The most common way is this:

You need to access on Azure portal to achieve this goal.

We have a static html site hosted. There is a login page on that site. We are trying to login from that screen then redirect to Microsoft SharePoint Portal without going through https://login.microsoftonline.com/.

It is not possible avoid the login on SharePoint Online, just in case you have configured the single sign on:

For those IT techs who want Control Panel and Programs and Features Back in WinX - How do you do it?

I get that Microsoft assumes that people are not all that smart and really like things "dumbed" down but as a Computer Engineer, dumbing down doesn't help me do my job efficiently. I need the extra functionality of Control Panel and Programs and Features and having it available in the WinX menu is essential.

So for those like me this is the local folder where the shortcuts reside. However, all my shortcuts added there are now GONE and adding to the folder doesn't seem to work anymore?

C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\WinX

I am a Mac tech as well and I must say that the reason I liked Windows was that it wasn't as complicated to access settings as it was with a Mac. However, it seems that removing functionality so that Windows looks more like a Mac is Microsoft's goal.

Please Microsoft stop regressing to the point where we have to do command line (think back to DOS) for everything we once could do in the GUI. For example the order of the Network Cards is removed. Now I have to do powershell commands to set the order and yes there is an order because if you run 2 VPN's, wireless and wired like I do you really need an order.

How to restore Control Panel back to right click Start Menu

Some time ago, I responded to a thread asking where is Control Panel in Insider Preview build, and wanted to know how to put it back.

At the time I said something like " can't be done".

I was wrong.

Here is the tutorial if anyone is interested........

https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/...dows-10-a.html

The Win+X Quick Link menu is a pop-up menu from the Start button that includes shortcuts of common management, configuration, and other power user Windows tools.

Starting with Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 14942, Control Panel was replaced by Settings in the Win+X menu.

This tutorial will show you how to show Control Panel or Settings on the Win+X Quick Link menu for your account in Windows 10.

I have a situation where the objectives is to move from Windows 2008 R2 to Windows 2012 R2. Which of this that is suitable way to move the ADCS with minimal downtime

  1. Is it better to do the migration on the CA or build new ADCS server entirely? What are the pros and cons? What are the pros and cons from the server side as well as client side?

From the article as below link, it states that if there are any issue faced during the migration, we can roll back by just enabling the CA roles back on the source server as removing the CA role will not entirely remove the configuration. Can it be confirmed that we will be able to roll back by just enabling the CA role on the existing server if there are any issue during the migration

Open with Explorer is disabled

Hi, I applied a custom master page to my SP site and the Open With Explorer option became disabled In Master Pages and Page Layouts Gallery only. Open with Explorer is still enabled on other Document Libraries and Style Libraries. I tried many meta tags and still no luck.

        <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=edge" />
        <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=EmulateIE10" />

I thought the bootstarp I am using is the culprit but it did not fix it even after I remove that.

Bad username/password on network shared drives

Hello!

We have been having a tough time trying to eliminate this nagging issue and our IT team at the main campus is not sure where the culprit is.

Recently, the main campus demoted 2 DCs that was on our campus to be just DNS servers and since then we have had users getting a Bad Username / Password when they try to access their network share drives. The main campus did find a SRV record that was pointing to the demoted DCs and some other entries which they have since removed but we are still seeing people getting this error.

We have tried removing the stored credential that is shown in Credential Manager, disconnecting the drives, and /flushdns with reboots and they seem to work to some degree, but in the end the issue comes back.  Sometimes we get the Windows Security Box to enter credentials and it still shows it's wrong, no matter which credential is put into it (mine, domain admin, etc).  Sometimes disconnecting the drives and rebooting to force the drives to remap does not work and the GPRESULT shows an error which is pointing to bad username/password.

Note, when I look at the LOGONSERVER on affected computers, they are pointing to different ones, so it's not the same one at the time of the issue.

What's interesting is that while we get the Windows Security Box if we go by mapped drive or FQDN and will hang for a while before the box shows but if I go to the file server directly, it goes to the folders without any issues.

I am stumped to find our cause.   What is the process for a computer to connect to a network drive?   Does it authenticate first before going to the folder?   If so, how can I find out what server its getting the bad info from?

WMI: MSBTS_HostInstance - check for disabled host

Hi

During the transition phase we have a disabled host instance (ReceivingDisabled) as a placeholder for not active receive locations ported from the old server

I have a WMI query to list all host instances to get throttling state (through performance counters)
Obviously it fails due to the disabled host instance and I need to skip it from the list

Scope: "root\\MicrosoftBizTalkServer"
Query: "Select * from MSBTS_HostInstance where HostType=1"

I am using the ManagementObjectSearcher class

EDIT: Sorry I think I have what I need here
https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa560660.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396

I assume I can use IsDisabled to check for this state?

Thanks /Peter

Hi Peter

You can also use-

ManagementObjectSearcher searchObject = new ManagementObjectSearcher("root\\MicrosoftBizTalkServer", "Select * from MSBTS_HostInstance where HostType=1", enumOptions);     //Enumerate through the result set and start each HostInstance if it is already stopped   foreach (ManagementObject inst in searchObject.Get())   {   //Check if ServiceState is 'Stopped'   if (inst["ServiceState"].ToString() == "1")   {   inst.InvokeMethod("Start", null);   }   //Console.WriteLine("HostInstance of Host: " + inst["HostName"] + " and Server: " + inst["RunningServer"] + " was started successfully");   }

Thanks Arindam

I know, thanks

If the host instance is stopped an attempt to get the performance counters for host throttling will lead to an unhandled exception, checking for service state before looking up PF is a good idea

IsDisabled will help you filter upwards.

bool IsDisabled = false;
            foreach (ManagementObject queryObj in GetCollectionByHostInstanceName(hostInstanceName))

Not sure about the business requirements for displaying information about disabled host instances

Install new security update patches on WSUS via Security Update Guide

Hi Guys,

With the new Second Edition of Security Update Guide, it is difficult to follow all updates on all OS's. All KB articles are listed on all Servers version.

Before, with the Microsoft Security Bulletin, it was possible to properly approve required patches on all versions of OS's on (WSUS 3.0 SP2) on a single click. But now each KB should be approved one-by-one.

Do you have a remedy to this?

To find OU structure

I am trying to find the OU structure, but i want my result to get break after searching two tier. Like say i have ou like below:

testdomain.com
     test1
test12
test123
test1234
test1234.1
test1234.1.1
     test2
     test3
     test4

So i want result to show only till two hierarchy show my result should not contains what ou Test1234 contains.

I tired using below doing some customization but no success as all the time i got full OU. Any help will be much appreciated

Get-ADOrganizationalUnit -filter * | select Name,DistinguishedName | Export-csv -path C:\ADOrganizationalUnitsexport.csv -NoTypeInformation

It is very hard to understand what you are asking. What is "till two hierarchy"? Do you mean only second level?  Please try yo ask a clear question.

So from two tier i mean i want get OU details under rm.test and say in that OU IT is there then what OU are present in that IT OU. I do not want to get details what OU does OU under IT like admins contains. HOpe this will clear my query.

Please let me know if i am still unclear.

What does "till" mean.  There is no such word.

Do you want "only" the second level or "both" level 1 and 2?

I want information of both level.

Reply:

And what is it that you can't do?  Just get all of the root OUs and use each to get the second level OUs.

This gets the root:

Get-ADOrganizationalUnit -SearchScope OneLevel -Filter * | select Name

This example works for me:

$Results = @() # Retrieve all OUs at the root of the domain. The default -SearchBase is the root of the current domain. $BaseOUs = Get-ADOrganizationalUnit -SearchScope OneLevel -Filter * | Select Name, distinguishedName ForEach ($BaseOU In $BaseOUs) { $Results += New-Object -Type PSObject -Property ( @{ "Name" = $BaseOU.Name "DN" = $BaseOU.distinguishedName } ) # Retrieve all OUs that are direct children of this OU. $ChildOUs = Get-ADOrganizationalUnit -SearchBase $BaseOU.distinguishedName -SearchScope OneLevel -Filter * | Select Name, distinguishedName If ($ChildOUs) { ForEach ($ChildOU In $ChildOUs) { $Results += New-Object -Type PSObject -Property ( @{ "Name" = $ChildOU.Name "DN" = $ChildOU.distinguishedName } ) } } } $Results | Export-Csv -Path "OUs.csv" -NoTypeInformation

$OUs = Get-ADOrganizationalUnit -Server $Domain -Credential $creds -Filter * -SearchScope Onelevel -Properties * | Select DistinguishedName,CanonicalName  $Containers = Get-ADObject -Server $Domain -Credential $creds -SearchScope OneLevel -LDAPFilter '(objectClass=container)' | Select name  $Containers.name | Out-File $tempfile  Foreach ($OU in $OUs)  	{  	$ChildOU = Get-ADOrganizationalUnit -Server $Domain -Credential $creds -Filter * -SearchScope OneLevel -SearchBase $OU.DistinguishedName -Properties * | Select DistinguishedName,CanonicalName  	((($OU.CanonicalName).Replace($CurrentDomain.DNSRoot,'')).TrimStart('/'),$ChildOU.CanonicalName.Replace($CurrentDomain.DNSRoot,'').TrimStart('/')) | Out-File $tempfile -Append  	}  (Get-Content $tempfile).ToLower() | Sort-Object | Get-Unique | Out-File $Report -Append

This returns the OU structure in canonical name format sans domain DNS.

org
org/application_groups
org/configuration
org/javaapps
org/ntfs

I think this perfectly fits your requirement, then on you can compare OU structure of different domains.

New KMS host

I have setup a new KMS host and have a couple of questions regarding the KMS clients updating themselves to use  the new server.

So currently I have:

Old KMS server running Windows Server 2008 R2

New KMS server running Windows Server 2016

I have updated the SRV record in DNS to point to the new KMS server. KMS caching is enabled for all KMS clients.

What I'd like to know is:

1) Will the KMS clients automatically start to use the new KMS server?

2) If the answer to question 1 is yes then how long do I have to wait until the KMS clients (that have caching enabled) start to use the new KMS server?

Thanks for any help.

SSRS Chart Rendering Performance Issue

Hi,

We are working for one of the client and it is manufacturing company.

There are many machines in Plant and running with 5 different status like following.

1.Machine is Down 2.Machine Is Running 3.Machine is Running with Low Limit 4. Machine is Running With High Limit 5. Machine is Manually Stopped

Data frequency is for each Second. In Report we are using chart to display machine status for last 24 hours. Bar chart we have used and each bar shows 1 machine running status last 24 hours.

We have no issue with the SP it is running in seconds but rendering in chart taking huge time depends on number of machines selected for display and report is not opening In some plants giving timeout error. This impacting server performance as well. For me it seems product issue. Request you please help this is very much important report.

Unable to save Excel File larger than one gigabyte 1GB

Case from Microsoft office 365 business support:  Windows 10 Pro + Excel 2016

Files larger than 1GB will not save, seem to save OK, except file is only saved as temp file.  When 'saving as' under a new file name, the file sometimes saves OK.  Unfortunately, hard drive fills up with temp files and new file names since every time a file is saved, the name must be changed.

Windows 10 Defender anti-virus appears to be causing file sharing violation.

Work around appears to be going back to Windows 7 Pro and save via internal network - sad but true :(

Would like to be able to use Win 10 Pro and Excel 2016 for large data models - impressed in ability to handle >300M records and 12+GB file sizes (except for saving problem).

Any updates from Office / Windows Tech Net teams would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You!

This is not a simple infrastructure issue.  The PC is a brand new Dell Precision 3620 with i7-7700K chip, 64GB of DDR4 2400 RAM, and a 64-bit setup for Windows / Office.  The hard drive is Samsung Pro 960 1TB M.2 SSD installed on local machine PCIe 3.0 x 16.  This is the most robust infrastructure possible today.

The Resource Monitor was used continuously through development process.  Yesterday, after 2.5 hours on the phone with Microsoft Office 365 Business Support, we definitively identified a bug related to Windows 10 Pro 64-bit Defender 'sharing violation' and Excel 2016 as well as Excel 2013.  We found work around using another computer with Windows 7 Pro 64-bit connecting via network to the same SSD on original computer.

Please treat the matter with seriousness, I know Microsoft Tech Net can be bombarded with issues, but this appears to be a REAL bug.  Having to fall back from Windows 10 Pro and reinstall Windows 7 Pro is obviously a less than satisfactory solution from a customer perspective.

Your support is greatly appreciated.  I will be monitoring this thread and expect update from Microsoft as to when issue is resolved so I can migrate back to Win 10 Pro 64-bit.

Sincerely,

-Tom Sieg.

Let me add a few words:
(1) Send a feed to Excel User Voice about your issue.
They would reply and/or fix the issue.
(2) Have you tried 32-bit Excel (2007 or later), instead of 64-bit?
I won't use 64-bit Excel, since it lacks some features or partly not compatible with *.xlsm made by 32-bit Excel and because I have no needs to handle so large data/file.
(3) Could you share the problematic file via cloud storage such as OneDrive, Dropbox, etc. (when you share it, don't forget to make it compressed, zipped)

Thank you.

After hours with Microsoft and Dell support today, the rollback from Win 10 Pro to Win 7 Pro is problematic on i7-7700K Dell Precision 3620.  Therefore, I will return PC to Dell and start from scratch with another system.  However, I do hope Microsoft will support ultimate resolution for this bug.

Visio Pro 2013 - Printing Issue

I have created an org chart in Visio.  The first one I created worked great and I had no issues with printing it.  I then needed to add a second page to the document.  After adding the second page (a second tab at the bottom of the screen), My document would no longer print the photos that were inserted into the chart.  Now the document prints blank pages, even though the print preview shows the document correctly.  I thought maybe the original file had somehow gotten corrupted, so I recreated the org chart without adding the second page to the new file. Unfortunately, I am still having the same printing issue - sometimes it prints the objects without the photos, and sometimes it prints completely blank pages.

I have verified that the paper size and the page size match; I have created layers in the document and made sure they are set to print; I have selected the individual photos and brought them to the front... nothing seems to work or make sense.  I'm ready to pull my hair out.  I have had no problems with printing any of my process maps, but this org chart is giving me serious grief.

UPDATE 4/5/2016: After submitting a support request through our O365 portal admin, I spoke to a tech.  After some research and finding that many others are having similar issues, this has been submitted to the folks in Development for a patch to fix the program issue.  My thanks to Microsoft for their help and willingness to escalate this issue for us all!
