Start at your favorite search engine.
Search for "How to install Syslog Server".
Decide which operating system you are most confident in running. Join a Syslog forum and ask for experience in setting up.
Things like storage size, required processing power, schedules, polling intervals etc.

Why there is no share option in Windows 10 Mail app?
Hi,
We have created a C# Windows Store app for Windows 8.1 and uploaded in the Windows Store. From Mail app we used to select content and share to our app and display the shared content in our app for printing the content.
In Windows 10 Pro Insider Preview the Mail app does not have share option, so how to share the mail content from Windows 10 Mail app to our app.
Please help. Mail app with Share option is very important for our app.

Ashok

Native VHD Boot :: Windows Update Still Broken
Hello,
I just got done setting up Windows 10 Enterprise Build 9926 as a Native VHD boot scenario. I applied all the updates, installed some software, and then tried to update to Build 10014, and received the following nastygram. This was a problem back with Windows 8.1, going to Windows 8.1 "with Update."
To summarize the problem here:
1. I spent a couple of hours getting things set up on Windows 10 Build 9926
2. I can't upgrade to Windows 10 Build 10014
3. There is no ISO for Windows 10 Build 10014
4. Bottom Line: How do I run Windows 10 Build 10014 under Native VHD Boot, without having to hack it? This should "just work."
Can we please get this fixed?
Cheers,

I appreciate the insight, but that doesn't solve the problem. When the next Windows 10 build comes out, I have to do the same thing, and start with a fresh Windows installation again.
The issue just needs to get fixed.

Hi Trevor,
I think Native VHD boot has no problems with Windows Update.
The real thing that matters here is the Windows Upgrade from Native booting VHD, which is not supported since Windows 7.
This should be related with the native boot limitations:
Understanding Virtual Hard Disks with Native Boot
Also, please check the Note in the article below:
Deploy Windows on a VHD (Native Boot)
"
Windows Upgrades on native boot VHDs are not supported. You must perform a clean installation on a new VHD.
"
As discussed above, please take use of the mentioned methods to either upgrade the VHD file through Hyper-V, or configure the install.esd file.
Best regards

I understand how it works today, but I'm asking that this limitation get resolved. With the rapid release cycle of Windows 10 builds, this is going to constantly be an issue from month to month. This never became an issue with Windows 7, because there were no OS upgrade, just Service Packs.
It was a slight problem with Windows 8.1, because of "Windows 8.1 with Update" that was released for the OS.
Now, with Windows 10, it's become a much larger issue with frequent OS builds. Does that make sense?
The Windows upgrades are delivered through Windows Update, so it's really just semantics.

Hi Trevor,
Well, I understand the current situation.
The upgrade process for Windows 10 by now really causes diffculties regarding Native VHD.
This issue should be put into consideration if Upgrade versions would still come through Windows Update, or make them the way similiar to install service packs. I am also glad to have it that way.
Besides, in my own opinion, to make it similiar to install service packs might not be available, Windows 10 is now under developing with many aspects, and changes might make the previous builds not working well as it used to be, which I think the better idea is to deliever the new install media.
As the Windows Update, which is one of the way to deliever the install package.
And many other users would also encounter compatibility issues(mostly) on their Virtual Machine or the Bare hardwares, and the new OS is hard for some of them to go through properly of the install process.
Best regards

Bump. Can we get OS upgrades fixed in the Native VHD boot scenario? I don't desire to install on bare metal. It's much cleaner to manage some VHD files on my physical disks.

SSAS 2014 - Cubes on Partitioned table
Hi,
I have a table that is partitioned by the Date key. If I needed to create a cube on this partitioned table in SSAS 2014, would I need to partition the cube as well?
Thanks

To be specific,
if the SQL Server table is partitioned on the Date key, assuming I create a dimension / cube based on the Date key, does SSAS automatically detect that the sql server table is partitioned on the Date key and would not process older partitions and only the ones that get new updated data?

No its not necessary your SQL Datavase engine table partition is all together diffecrent from cube partitioned so you can go ahead and create your cube.
But if u want to create cube on same DateKey basis you can go ahead and do that.

Reply:
A feature named "automatic cube partitioning" would be really useful.
This would mean that by design, SSAS will detect that the SQL backend table is partitioned and partitions the cube. So, as and when new partitions on the SQL table are created, the corresponding partitions get created on the SSAS cube. This should be ON by default, if we don't need partitioning on the cube, then we should have the ability to disable this feature.
There is a reason why the SQL table has been partitioned, so essentially, SSAS could just partition the cube accordingly, that way, we just manage the partitioning on the SQL table side, and not have to manage it on both ends.

Easy Fix for annoying "Cannot Connect To Network Drive" notification at startup
Like most people, when I run into some new computer issue, I search it on the internet.
I'm really good at troubleshooting a computer issue, but only recently have jumped into networking. So when the notification "Cannot Connect To Network Drive" kept popping up at start-up, I figured I must have initially done something incorrectly while pathing the drive, so I researched it.
I went through about half a dozen different threads on the subject and did everything from edit the registry to enter commands in the cmd, to running scripts. They either didn't work, created different pop ups, or were so in-depth that it wasn't worth my time to see if it worked.
So, I was finally like, "screw that notification" and <DING!> I thought of an answer.... Just disable the notification!
#1 Right click task bar and select properties
#2 Select the "customize" button next to "notification area"
#3 Scroll until you find the icon with "Windows Explorer" and select "Hide icon and notifications"
Yep, it's that easy!

Auto correct won't shut off in Windows 8
auto-correct doesn't stop ......... even when you have it set to "off."
just continues to change text entries on Facebook and elsewhere. only way to stop it from altering my text (and from driving me insane) --- is to pull the process from system 32.
but then i lose the spellcheck. which then have to take the time to Bing words ................
it's just an off switch. i don't understand why you don't have it working right.
is there anyway to get just the spellcheck and not have auto correct going? if you say change the settings to 'off' then never mind

HOW TO APPLY SECURITY TO A PARTICULAR TABLE FROM THE DATABASE
Reply:
This may be pretty easy or pretty hard depending on how permissions have been setup on the database.
The worst case scenario is that everyone has been granted sysadmin or owner rights in which case you will need to remove these right and replace them with more granular permissions but you will need to test this thoroughly before you do.
there are many scenarios to consider and this post may be a good starting point for you, it describes how to create roles, then add users to those roles, you can then define what actions (Select; insert update ......) each role is allowed to perform per object (table view stored proc .....)

Steps to deploy Lync for users who own Office 365 E1/E2 licenses, but don’t have Office 365 E3, using Office Deployment tool.
After many hours of debugging with Microsoft support the system to install the Lync Client silently can be done with a SINGLE LINE command. The steps to take are below. It should be an easy next step to put this as GPO installation since it is a simple command.
Comments appreciated.
side question: Why is there no Lync 2013 or Lync Office 365 forum?
Basic steps to deploy Lync for users who own Office 365 E2 licenses, but don't have Office 365 E3, using Office Deployment tool. This also applies for other Office 365 service types where the full office suite download is not included. In April 2015 This was impossible to find online and not know by the Lync support team.
Steps are:
- Download the Office deployment tool from http://www.microsoft.com/en-in/download/details.aspx?id=36778 and extract it to a folder. For this example we will use the \\server\sharename location.
Extracting it creates a setup.exe file and it show a sample XML file.
2. Create XML file and give it a name such as LyncEntryRetail.xml
Note: The key is the productID that has to be the "LyncEntryRetail". Other product IDs will download a version that needs another office 365 license. The productID "LyncRetail" needs an E3 license of Office 365.
<Configuration>
<Add SourcePath="\\server\sharename" OfficeClientEdition="32" >
<Product ID="LyncEntryRetail">
<Language ID="en-us" />
</Product>
</Add>
</Configuration>
3. From the folder where you extracted the Office deployment tool, run the following command on the command prompt to download the source files and store them on the shared drive: (on single line)
Setup.exe /download LyncEntryRetail.xml (This is the name of the XML file created above)
One can also run the same on a server share by using UNC path names such as (on single line)
\\servername\sharename\Setup.exe /download \\servername\sharename\LyncEntryRetail.xml (This is the name of the XML file created above)
4. Run the following command on the command prompt on a machine where you want to install the software: (on single line)
\\servername\sharename\Setup.exe /configure \\servername\sharename\LyncEntryRetail.xml (This is the name of the XML file created above)
Once you are comfortable that it all works, you may want to edit the XML file if you want to have silent installation and add the following lines.
<Display Level="None" AcceptEULA="TRUE" />
<Property Name="AUTOACTIVATE" Value="1" />

How to identify the user records that are directly created in Active Directory?

We have got an assignment to delete user records in AD that have not been created via identity management tool i.e. to delete the records that have been directly created in Active Directory. Send an update to an attribute through the IDM tool and delete all accounts that do not have that attribute. As a one time project or in an environment where you should trust your administrators and attribute should work. If you do not trust your domain admin, you have other problems, but you can audit the attribute that you are updating.
I agree with Martin, but you have to trust somebody sometime, or at least watch them closely.

We have a few customers running CU12 - May 2015 - 8308.887, and it looks to have broken "guest" access to online meeting, only via the edge.
The call will not connect and after a short period of time, the call is disconnect with a "Call ended because of network issues", using an authenticated account call connect fine.
Hoping that someone can check out their install if you are running the .887 version and let me know.
We are 99% sure that it was working before the Cu install.

How to create enterprise resources from a 3rd party tool feed and not by AD sync
Hi
I am working on Project server 2013.
We have an existing resource Management tool for managing resources and as and when new resources join the company, they need to be added to project server. Customer does not want AD groups to be synced with project server. hence we will have to add/create resources in Project Server from the resource management tool's feed.
Please suggest how to design the solution or what should be the approach.

Hi
This may be a bit more technical than can be answered on a forum. Is this something you are going to build yourself, or have a vendor do for you?
You would need to consider where the resources start their life, and how they can be written into Project Server. You also need to consider the possible impact on the Project Server database if you write into it, so you may need to use the PSI.
You need to consider when it would happen, and also once the resources are in, are you going to edit them at all in Project Server, to say make them inactive? And how would that synch back. Probably best not to.
This is possible, you may need to engage a vendor though who has done it before.
Good luck
Ryan Darby

I do agree with Ryan. Your concern is a bit too complex and large to be correctly answered on this forum.
Maybe have a look to this 3rd-party tool which might correspond to your need.
