Build 10240. (Bug?) System Process uses too much memory because of SuperFetch feature
This an issue with memory consumption of the System process when playing/using programs. Not all games and programs have strongly pronounced problem. Ones of them is the games GTA5/DayZ/Arma2/Arma3 and probably software Chrome/Steam/Photoshop etc. For example, take the game DayZ. When it is working the memory of the System process may reach up to 4GB of RAM, when the process itself using only ~1-2GB. This problem appeared in Windows 10, when in Windows 8.1 on the similar situation the memory of the System process was maximum of few Kilobytes.
UPD: Disabling SuperFetch service prevents memory usage. But. Is it a feature or bug?- Moved by Carey FrischMVP, Moderator Saturday, July 18, 2015 1:30 PM Relocated

I have the same problem. I tried lots of things to find the culprit but being the System process is not that easy.
After using the PC for 8 hours this is System process
The only thing I did in that time is using Chrome and the memory usage of System Process grown with time. Disabling the hardware acceleration helped a bit but the leak is still there.
You can try this:
1. Disable OneDrive. (Disable on Task Manager Startup tab)
2. Disable Windows Defender. (using Local Group Policy Editor or it will enable itself otherwise)
3. Disable PagingFile and restart the PC.
After lots of tests only doing those steps I managed to use my PC for an entire day with System Process using just 0,1Mb of RAM like in Windows 8.1, which I think it would the be the normal behavior. Of course this is not a solution as soon this message would appear:
Using poolmon, Process Explorer, Windows Performance Analyzer, Handler and everything I could just helped me to see that the problem seems to be in lots of registry access. Maybe is the Telemetry needed for an Insider Preview and the final RTM build wont' have this problem.

ntoskrnl.exe (aka system in task manager) at idle usually consumes .1% ( of16GB DDR4) or .01MB actual. However, if I open a GPU intensive task, it grows to several GB, and does not go back down after the task is completed. So when I finish my 30 minutes of Skyrim, close it down and check task manager...with nothing else open AT ALL...I am sitting at system wide 80% RAM usage.
Memory leak for sure. I will try the onedrive, defender, and pagefile tricks, but I should not need to, and this needs to be fixed.

Me also, hardly doing anything and the system is really sluggish.
Lowest is 400mbs when the system is idle. Seems a bit steep considering visual studio is sat at 140mbs

I'm not actually seeing any performance degradation as a result of this, so I'm wondering if this is due to accounting of the file cache in some way:

Using Process Hacker it says that System Process is not using much more than 1 Mb of RAM. So maybe it's indeed a new cache that only new Task Manager can show it. I must say in latest builds I didn't notice a performance hit even when System memory usage was high. No problem using Chrome for hours and forgetting about it for now.You are wrong, Process Hacker showing "Private Bytes" (Virtual memory) by default and it doesn't matter. Look at the "Working Set", cache isn't Working Set. http://i.imgur.com/vX6Crgs.png

I have the problem and an old 2008 PC with DualCore E2200 and G33 integrated Intel graphics.
There is a new patch available on Windows Update (KB3074665) that brings a new ntoskrnl.exe that could fix the problem. Now it seems it frees memory little by little but I need to test it more yet.
edit: Nope, the problem is still there.

Yes, it is. I have analyzed the process using Process Hacker on windows 8 and windows 10 performing the same actions and found that ntoskrnl uses memcopy instead memmove a lot as well as DbgLoadImageSymbols. This is just my guess but it may be the source. Probably DbgLoadImageSymbols is some kind a kernel debugger feature inside of Insider Previews but it doesn't explain why memcopy but not memmove. I hope they will disable debugging in later versions if it so.

Ta-da!!! Try to disable SuperFetch service and reboot your PC. Now the process memory keeps on a few Kbytes. Either it is a bug in superfetch or we are seeing for the first time ever working SuperFetch (I have never seen that it working like this).
P.S. Just for info. I'm using SSD for Windows 10.

Reply:
You are right. Disabling Superfetch service did stop the high memory usage in System Process. (I'm using a normal SATA2 disk BTW)
This is why I'm waiting Microsoft to explain about the new Superfetch. If this was Windows 7 we would have a huge blog entry by Steven Sinofsky explaining the new behavior.

Changing About Not Found page
My PC was hijacked by malware (MiuiTab, MiniDigital Technology Co,. Limited, SkyTech Mail Update Service, etc). They redirected the About Urls of IE to their own search sites. I have managed to undo almost all except the page that is navigated to when I click on a link pointing to a document on the local file system but where the document does not exist.
I have checked HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\AboutURLs, and all of them are the same as on a clean PC. There is also no Not Found page there.
How do I reset the "not found" page to the default one? I have reset IE Options Advance and rebooted many times, but the redirection is still there. The redirected site is http://www.ienotice.com/js/notice.js?data=;pDg;....... if it is of any interest to anyone.
Thanks.

Hi,
Start>Run>mscofig>Startup.... examine the startup services list and disable any (non-Microsoft) services that you are not sure of.... the malware is probably writing a hosts file (you did not mention your windows and IE versions). Reboot your computer for changes to the Services Startup list to take affect.
Run your anti-virus/malware program to detect and remove it. If you know its name a web search may lead to some publicly known manual removal method.
Select the Tools>Fishing Filter>Report unsafe site menu from IE to report any suspicious web site to Microsoft. I have already visited and submitted a report for ienotice.com - its definitely malware.

After spending many hours, it seems the culprit is a replaced ieframe.dll.mui (in a language sub-folder in System32 and SysWOW64). However, there are no Previous Versions for me to roll back to.

Looks like your Touchpad is trying to emulate Middle-click for you. It might be a gesture you could disable or customize.
FWIW I sometimes get this symptom even with a real mouse when using Middle-click. E.g. the AutoScroll function gets activated but inexplicably and unhelpfully limited to one direction, usually down but I have also had it giving me side-to-side scrolling only when, again, both directions would have been appropriate and more helpful. In the up-and-down-only case my Tilt wheel action sometimes acts as a workaround; however Tilt wheel scrolling seems hit or miss in many instances.

cortana and other option to not install when you upgrade
cortana I dont want, i hope when you install the official release, you can choose some of these massive bloat ware applications to install or leave out of the install that would be smart, i don't need halo, i only need a base system that is fast and not bloated. i know you can turn of cortana, but i dont want it and i dont want the onedrive installed either
hope they can make these choices available.

I suspect/hope this will be fully fixed in the RTM, one of the reason's I don't think 10240 is the final build or atleast there will be a load of patches on day one.
you can use the set-vpnconnection and Get-vpnconnection in Power shell to make a load of the changes if you need to

Not a question more an intimation of departure
By departure I mean from the Insider program swiftly followed by rolling back to 8.1 and 7 on my laptop and desktop respectively. The 'why' being because I find myself asking whether I wish to go forward with an OS created by an organization which cannot produce something as surely by anyone's assessment basic as a properly functioning Verification system. I refer to the hurdle of verification embodied in the Microsoft Account regime ... yesterday I decided to install my ISO version of W10 on a relatively new laptop and after a successful install I then ran into the brick wall of being asked to verify my Microsoft Account username/password, being informed that I would be sent a verification code by email ... I went through this process countless times, but none of the codes worked ... embodied in the process is the invitation to 'try another means of verification' (or words to that effect) click on that and you are ushered round a loop which brings you right back to the 'send me a code' scenario.... I am all for progress but, Microsoft, where hoops have to be jumped through by your customers please do us the honour of making sure that they work. I am incidentally, not alone in having fallen foul of this issue ... check out this link: http://www.techrepublic.com/article/pro-tip-troubleshoot-the-microsoft-account-verification-procedure-in-windows-8-1/
Come the day I decide I have tired of 8.1 and 7 I will doubtless investigate one of the Open Source offerings, ....

Right-Click Context Menus in Edge (build 10166)
With Windows 10, along with Edge, getting ready for public release, there are some things regarding Edge that I feel needs to be addressed. One of those is the right-click contextual menu. In Edge, when you right click an element, you are presented with three options. In Google Chrome, you have the very useful, "Search Google for ...." In IE, you get useful menu items like "Search with Bing." In Chrome and IE, the contextual menus are extensible.
Using Edge to do any recreational or professional research is difficult as there are more steps required to research a particular item. In this case, the word must be copied, a new tab or window opened, the word pasted into the search bar. With the other two browsers, you just right-click and click.
I have already provided this via the official Feedback App. I would like to see Edge become something more than just some sort of HTML render engine experiment.

Any tips or experience with Prove it! SQL tests?
Hello, I am new to SQL, I have a job opportunity using it and I have learned a lot within the last three weeks. I have SQL 2008 installed and I can create databases, tables, search, etc.
I am going to take this Prove it! SQL assessment Saturday to go forward in the hiring process.I have taken a few different online practice tests and I passed them, but they were multiple choice questions. I am a little weary of starting this Prove it! SQL assessment and finding that it is a massively in depth test where I need to know every tiny detail of SQL. If it is a basic skills and knowledge test, I can do it no problem, but I am definitely not an expert yet. The job I am going for is basically searching data to make sure certain members have the correct info loaded.
Just wondering if anyone here has any knowledge about these Prove it! SQL tests, what I can expect, tips, etc? I am a pretty fast learner and I am progressing with SQL, it is one of those situations where I am sure that if I can get the foot in the door, once I am trained on how to do the specific tasks, I will be off and running.
Thanks so much, I posted with some issues on a different thread and it was a huge help. Really appreciate the knowledge.

2012 R2 SP1 Upgrade experiences
Hey there everyone,
Curious if those out there could provide feedback (good or bad) about their experience with upgrading SCCM 2012 R2 to the recently released SP1 (or SP2, depending on how you look at it)? I have a few clients who use Intune integrated with SCCM who want to start taking advantage of some of the new features, as well as start ramping up pilot testing for Windows 10 and was hoping to get some feedback from those who have already upgraded.
Thanks in advance!

Sounds like there are some bugs that need to be worked out. Still hoping someone, anyone, who has upgraded to SP1 will respond and let us know if you are experiencing issues like listed in the comments on the above post.

I have updated a few clients with 2012 R2 to the SP1 patch level. No issues so far. I have not worked with SP2 for SCCM 2012. I also did one production implementation from scratch with no issues, which is reassuring.
The outstanding question in my mind is whether there will be issues updating to the latest ADK when it's released. I guess we'll all find out in July/August.

Congratulations to all at Microsoft.
I just wanted to say that you officially blew me away today!
Talk about jumping in at the deep end. I have been out of programming for a couple of years, so I have not kept pace with the changes in technology, but I'm learning C# through the Microsoft Visual C# 2012 book by John Sharp, (really good book, by the way) using VS2013 and have been so impressed by the thought, inspiration and logic that has gone into the development of this language and the .NET library, etc, etc. As I say, I'm no expert but I have been programming for about 38 years, learned many different languages, programmed using several technologies, but today I was introduced to the simulator in the debugger. It is incredible!
I was getting quite concerned about how I was going to test these apps for the different devices, and there it was. All I could say was 'Wow, wow, wow, wow, wow!" Just fantastic!
The whole Windows 8.1 platform is really incredible, documentation great, and help; spot on. It is all a little mind boggling, but impressive.
I just wanted to say congratulation to the whole Microsoft Team. I know it is a team effort. Brilliant!
This is not really a discussion so I don't know if this is the right place to send it. If it has gone to the wrong place, please could you pass it on? Thanks!
Interface Utilization counter error
Hello, I wonder if someone can help me with this issue. This occurs when the Interface Utilization threshold is reached only on a switch, but not on the others.
We have the following:
- a simple cascade/trunk like this: Switch (A port X) connected to Switch B (port Y).
- both are recognized by SCOM as "Network Devices"
- both are monitored with default values (no overridden rules)
- the speed is gigabyte over ethernet.
We detected an error when trying to troubleshoot alerts that have been arising during a large data transfer. The transfer was in both directions, from Switch A to Switch B and vice versa.
Checking counters and charts at a specific time, we have:
- On switch A: "Outbound Bits per Second" = 40%, "Inbound Bits per Second" = 40%, "Interface Utilization" = 80% => Utilization alert is triggered (the behavior is OK)
- On switch B: "Outbound Bits per Second" = 40%, "Inbound Bits per Second" = 40%, "Interface Utilization" = 40% => Utilization alert no triggered (Error)
Checking the Outbound chart and Interface Utilization chart on switch B, we can say that are equivalent. We don't know why the Inbound counter is ignored.
Have you ever had this kind of error? I appreciate any help.
Best regards,
Xavier
