SMB1, security hole? should we disable it?

hi all,

a security company Recommended we should disable SMB1 on our Server. We have Serve 2012R2.

there a no 2012R2

https://support.microsoft.com/de-de/help/2696547/how-to-enable-and-disable-smbv1,-smbv2,-and-smbv3-in-windows-vista,-windows-server-2008,-windows-7,-windows-server-2008-r2,-windows-8,-and-windows-server-2012

I ask google and found that we should disable SMB1 Feature and do this but if we check SMB1 with Powershell it show's on?

does anybody do disable SMB1 this? Is this a security hole?

Why cant i find,my old emails sent and received and deleted emails from lovekisses8@hotmail.com

Why is support so unbelievably SLOW to react?

I'm sorry about this, as this post is a bit of a rant maybe. I'm working with clients consulting them on the use of Office 365 / SharePoint Online. As I understand from pretty much every presentation from Microsoft, this is a very important product for you which brings in a lot of revenue. If this is the case: then why on earth is support so terrible!?!? I've got a service request that has been waiting for weeks now. I haven't heard ANYTHING. Not even an acknowledgement e-mail that my case was received, no phone call "we're working on it", nothing. And it's not a complicated problem either, I just need a full crawl of the tenant to be started due to some search related issues.

I've got all respect for the fact that you cannot respond within the hour or maybe even within a day, but weeks? And I don't seem to be the only one, as I've heard from several people (including MVP's) that the response times are extremely poor at the moment. Too bad those aren't part of the SLA's so we could request a refund.

Handling large CLOB from Oracle in SSIS

Hi,

We have a CLOB column in Oracle which has huge XML data in it. The length of this XML is around 11000 Chars long.

Our plan is to Parse the XML in SSIS to derive specific data elements we need for further processing and loading into SQL Server Database.

When we get the CLOB column, it comes as DT_TEXT. For you to use it in your Script Transformation and load into XMLDocument, you need to convert it into DT_STR.

But DT_STR would accept maximum of 8000 Chars leaving part of XML lost during conversion.

For now, i have used "dbms_lob.substr(sas_response,4000,1)" to get 3 parts of 4000 characters each and concatinate them in Script and load into XMLDocument. This works fine and i am able to parse XML without any issue.

Is there any other way of doing this where you can get entire 11000 chars from CLOB to a variable in SSIS and parse it?

Regards,
Vikram

Very confused by all of this

I am new at Powershell scripting. I have successfully ran some things but am always confused by what is inside of the scripts we download from here. What and where are exactly what you need to run? It seems like there are tons of documentation in the zip file, and it clutters everythign up for new users. IF I am looking to get a list of all AD users with all properties, what exactly do I enter? When I open the script it is huge so it is overwhelming and confusing. It wodl be much easier if it said enter

"GETAD bla blah blah" then show where I would need to make edits. How can this be taught to those who are brand new? I am trying hard, man but it seems like people on here go way out of their way to make this seem more complicated than it is, like when an IT guy tries to explain to a Maintenance tech how to clear his cache, but by using big words that only IT pros really "get". I want to learn but how!

I was under the impression that when I download a script, what was inside was what I needed to put in Powershell and simply change the output path, doesn't look that way when there are 15 paragraphs worth of stuff!

Get-Module -ListAvailable

Lists modules available, to see the commands in those modules, pick one you like the look of;

Get-Command -Module Defender

The Get-Help is good, first perhaps;

Update-Help -Verbose

Then;

Get-Help Get-MpComputerStatus -Online

Also search for basics not the complete scripts, start with you own basic scripts and search any individual issues to learn.

You start by getting a book or by doing a tutorial.

See: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/dd742419

One day with the tutorials and examples and you will become un-confused.

I, also, recommend learning how to use help as a first step.

I understand some of the confusion with downloaded scripts, however most the time the extra content is to make the script more versatile along with appropriate error checking. I think the difference is between using Powershell as a command line utility and using a Powershell script.

First learn how to learn with Powershell , use get-help command for things you semi-know and use get-command for things you don't know at all.

ex.

get-help get-AdComputer (This will get you a help file)

Get-Command -Verb get -noun *ad* (This will give you a list of commands that "get" information, with any command with AD in the noun portion. )

Second learn how to script.

I suggest getting a book by Don Jones , who happens to be one of the best. (Powershell in a month of Lunches is what my company gives to new techs.)

It's going to be a real crap-shoot when you download a script from the Gallery since those are all written by different people with different coding styles.  Some scripts, just download and double click them.  Other scripts, you'll have to change some variables in the code before running.

When I was first starting off, I found the -examples flag to be the best thing ever added to a HELP command.  Often enough, the simple thing you want to do is one of the examples MS provides right in the help file.   Just as a quick example, if you run get-help get-aduser -examples, you'll see an example of how to get all users under an OU, how to get all users with a certain naming scheme, and how to get all properties for a specific user.

Once you learn the basic noun/verb way that Powershell works, you can pick apart those examples, swap bits around, and you'll have your own scripts started.  Powershell is extremely user friendly for how powerful it is. Once you're over that initial hump, you'll be fine.   If you're looking for learning material, I've never used it myself, but I've heard a ton of good stuff about Powershell in a Month of Lunches.

refer TechNet article :-

https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc263526.aspx

Workaround is: open access 2010/2013 from client machine -->File -->Open -->Select "Microsoft SharePoint foundation"-->Paste SharePoint url -->Select the list to import and edit, modify, delete etc..

Regards,

Hi Nixon Mohan,

What officer version you have installed in your client machine.

Make sure you have installed office 2013 32-bit in your computer, It may be because of office 2016 compatibility issue with Sharepoint 2013 if you have different office version, did you try to use another browser, such as IE9, 10 and compare the results. Add your site in to trusted site and add the site in compatibility mode.

May be the similar issue post will help you:

any benefit to using table partitioning with cube partitioning?

I have a cube in SSAS (mdx) that I am wondering if i could get any faster.  I have optimized in terms of indexing and cube partitions.   AT this point i am wondering if a table partition could help and if so under what conditions would it be helpful.  For example if i create other filegroups but use the same disk is that going to make a big difference.  Should i align my cube partitions to my table partitions in terms of intervals (monthly etc).    What are the  additional maintenance considerations or licensing issues (if any)

Any tips on this would be useful, on a tight deadline so dont want to start playing around unless there is the possibility of it making a difference.

Reply:

Hi,

the performance will be better just for processing time if table and cube partition strategy is the same.

Hello.

Yep, that looks like as bug. You may create incident in official Microsoft support. Temporary solution (for example) - you can use that hack in your scripts:

Added to Skype???

I have now removed and re-installed Microsoft Solitaire Collection 10 (ten) times in  the past five days. It seems that it is written with a connection to the Skype platform, and must sign into Skype to play. I do not like Skype, certainly Microsoft would know that Skype gets hackers on a daily basis. I'm even getting "Skype porn" from total strangers, and each time I delete the Skype App, I loose all Microsoft Games and can not play anything! Skype written, and or attached to ANYTHING...is a really bad idea!!! How do I fix this???
