These forums are how I found out about the TechNet Wiki. I have since been an Azure Guru two times.
If you are looking to get some exposure for yourself this is an excellent way to do it. See the Wiki Ninjas Blog for all kinds of reasons as to why you should get involved.

SCCM Client in untrusted forest
I've installed a client in an untrusted forest using the following command line
SMSSITECODE = xxx SMSMP=FQDN FSP=FQDN DNSSUFFIX=suffix
I see the machine in SCCM (unapproved but that's expected). However, the client is only partially installed (only two actions in the control panel applet)
Looking at locationServices, I see that the client is looking to AD, then registry then DNS for its location and it's complaining that it can't find anything.
I haven't published site information to the untrusted forest, is that the recommendation?
Reply:
Hi,
Did you approve it? otherwise the client will not show more than to actions in the control panel applett as it is not approved to talk to the SCCM Site.
Regards,
Jörgen

Build 10130 doesn't boot unless Multicore CPU and Hyper-threading are disabled
I first encountered the issue when trying to upgrade from 10122 to 10130, the system turned into a boot loop: windows logo appeared, then PC rebooted. After 2 reboots windows logo appeared with message containing roughly something like "Preparing repair mode" and then it rebooted just like before.
I've downloaded build 10130 ISO and tried to boot from USB stick and ancountered the same issue: when booting from USB, windows logo showed up for several seconds and then the system rebooted.
After searching the internet I've found a solution to this problem here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Windows10/comments/38aa8a/for_everyone_thats_getting_stuck_in_a_boot_loop/
Basically system doesn't boot if either hyper-threading or multicore CPU options are enabled in BIOS. I've managed to successfuly install 10130 after disabling HT and multicore, and turning either back on prevents system from booting.
Is this a known issue? Are there workarounds/ways to enable at least multicore support in 10130?
I'm using HP ProBook 470G1 with Intel Core i3 CPU.

I'm pretty confident this build wouldn't make it to fast ring if it didn't support multicore CPUs or HT at all.
Obviously the issue occurs on very specific kinds of hardware configurations, although apparently I'm not the only one experiencing this problem, as evident from the reddit link I provided in the original post.
I'd like to know if there's some kind of workaround or at least hotfix in testing that would resolve the issue. I'd very much like to continue participating in Insider program but lack of multicore support is a blocker for me and forced me to roll back to 8.1.

Thanks for sharing this.
Currently there seems to be a little ahrd to offer any workarounds based on the special situation.
I can only suggest that we submit feedbacks with your system information on this topic and wait for the updates regarding the special hardwares.

-append searchmailbox log
Hello
I have E3 licenses and I am preforming searches with Powershell.
When we have a Phishing attack, I will have a CSV file of the mailboxes that were targeted. We would like to delete the email and know which users opened the email. I would use the following:
import-csv example.csv | % {search-mail $_.upn -Searchquery "from:example@example.com" -deletecontent -loglevel full -targetfolder Examplefolder -targetmailbox examplemailox}
This does what I want and gives me the information I want, but not in the format I want. The log files are separate CSVs for each mailbox, I'd like to do something similar to -append so that I would have one CSV withal the log information.
Is this and if so how do I do it?
Thank you
Steve

Further explanation on this process would be greatly appreciated.

I think you will have to learn PowerShell to understand. You import the file so the file exists. Just get al of the files and generate a single file.

Hyper-V Management Tools - POLL
Hi Everyone,
I am looking to get some feed back from the real world on what management software is being most widely used by Hyper-V users to manage their Hyper-V virtual datacenters. If you could please let me know from the following options it would be great. The goal is to create a plug-in/console for the software that is used by most Hyper-V deployments.
Please respond to the thread with your replies.
Options:
- System Center Virtual Machine Manager
- Failover Cluster Manager
- Hyper-V Manager
Thanks!

Hi,
for just 1 server u can use hyperv manager, if u have 2 or more servers, i think cluster manager will do. For scvmm u need some extra skils, u need to understand the network topology in scvmm.
U can take a look for hyperv manager from 5nine company if u dont like hyperv manager.

Do you know what is recommended by Microsoft or what do actual Hyper-V users lean towards? I know this is a "it depends" answer based on the environment - but any feedback will be valuable. We can assume there are more than 2 Hyper-V servers.

Right there with Eric.
Also, only SCVMM really has any type of plug-in model. The other two don't due to the Server Manager underpinnings.
Hyper-V Manager was built for individual hosts. Cluster Manager for clustered hosts (HA). And SCVMM has its own paradigm, but would be your datacenter option.
And don't forget Windows Azure Pack, and the new Azure Stack.
Each has its own paradigm.
Then you do have some strong 3rd parties in the market. Mainly 5Nine.

Adding 2012 DC to a 2008R2 domain which still contains a 2003 DC
We need to remove a legacy 2003 DC, which also contains a certificate role service, but for now we just want to remove the domain controller feature. My supervisor was told by a class instructor that there are some challenges with introducing a 2012 DC into a domain containing a 2003 DC. We're not sure if that meant a 2003-only environment (which doesn't apply to us) or an environment which already has a 2008R2 DC in it (which we have, it holds all the FSMO roles).
I have a new 2012 server in the domain, but have not added the domain role to it, leery of side effects. We do not have a test environment, are there any details I should check before installing the 2012 domain role? My SharePoint admin (we are using SP 2010 SP1) has asked if he'll still be able to access the domain by using the LDAP://domain.com syntax? We are using Exchange 2010 SP3 RU9, so we are good there.
In another forum post, someone stated:
It doesn't affect SharePoint functionality at all. What you have to keep in mind is that you have your User profile information synchronized afterwards and check if your authentication models has changed. In other words, SharePoint leverages the underlying AD infrastructure information, so make sure it is still with the same (like domain/domain controllers, authentication types etc)
Not sure how to validate the authentication model.
Thanks!

Hi,
Thanks for your post.
If you want to add windows server 2012 DC to your domain environment, Check to ensure the Domain Functional Level is currently setup to at least Windows 2003 mode. This is the lowest required Domain Functional Level that would allow a Windows Server 2012 Domain.
For sharepoint related issue, i think you could ask in sharepoint forums:

The boss wants to depromo the old 2003 DC, then add the 2012 DC role on the new server because he wants to mitigate the concern his instructor had. If we need to keep the old server online for it's legacy Certificate role, then we need to give the new server a new name & IP. I wanted to keep the IP & name the same on the new server so we wouldn't have to update so many references to the services hosted on the new DC.
I would rather verify whether the certificate role is still being referenced in the environment, and if it isn't then not worry about losing that service; if it is still being referenced then I need to know how to migrate those services to another server; we already have a 2008R2 CA in the environment. If we get the Cert concern resolved, then it should be a straight forward transition.
Does this forum cover certificate server questions?

I got the CA moved to a 2008 server. We're currently using the 2003 forest & domain functional levels, and it won't let me raise it. Will they remain at those levels after I remove the last 2003 DC, or will it automatically upgrade them since the last 2003 DC was removed?
Edit: Will there be any effect on the external, 2-way, non-transitive trust we have with our sister company's domain, which is currently at a 2003 forest/domain functional level (2008 and 2008R2 are available though)?

Hello,
if this is still an open issue there is no automatic raise from functional levels.
Which error is shown if you try to raise the levels?
Did you start with the domain or forest functional level?
Are all older OS DCs removed from the domain AND the AD database? Maybe there are some old DCs listed that where not removed correct with dcpromo?

Yes, still an open issue, tentatively planning to remove the 2003 DC from the environment about 10 hours from now.
When I attempt to raise the domain or forest functional level from Windows Server 2003, it states: You cannot raise the domain functional level because this domain includes Active Directory Domain Controllers that are not running the appropriate version of Windows.
I suspect this is because the Windows 2003 DC won't play nice with the later functional levels. So after removing and cleaning up the 2003 DC remnants, the levels will remain at 2003 but we should then be allowed to raise those levels.
Can anyone confirm whether trusts are effected by removing a domain controller or modifying the domain/forest functional levels?

New Systems management Solution
I currently use Dell KACE systems for computer management. I have both the K1000 and the K2000 and have been working with them for about eight years. The exciting part is that you can get either a virtual system or the actual servers themselves here on site and they come ready to go and have a unique jump start process for training working with your own system. There is an article that might interest people if they are looking at or accessing different options for systems management. Following is the link for that article and I think many would find it interesting and beneficial. It is comparing Dell KACE 1000 and KACE 2000 Systems as well as LANDESK Management Suite 9.6 SP1, Microsoft System Center 2012 R2 Configuration Manager (SCCM) and Symantec Altiris Client Management Suite 7.5 SP!. I believe it is important to continually educate yourself on different options, often just to see what you have is best for your organization or you find a better, lower cost solution. Or you may even want to do a test with one of them. So if you get the chance, read this article:

Problem on manually Updating DPM Agent to 2012 R2 RU6 on passive node of SQL 2012 and 2014 Failover Clusters (With CSV on 2014)
Hi,
I would like confirmation that it is not possible to update (doing a manual install/update on the server) to rollup 6 agent on a passive sql 2012 or 2014 failover cluster node. More so I was not able to uninstall the dpm agent from the passive nodes. Only after failing over the sql instances I was able to update the agent with no problems what so ever.
The eventviewer show error 1023:
Product: Microsoft System Center 2012 R2 DPM Protection Agent - Update 'Microsoft System Center 2012 R2 DPM Protection Agent Update - KB3030574' could not be installed. Error code 1603. Additional information is available in the log file C:\Windows\\Temp\MSDPMAgentPatchInstall.LOG.
The above mentioned servers are in an untrusted domain and connected to dpm by using certificates.
I did some more test and it seems that the MSDTC Resource group needs to be active or the manual installation fails. It does install version 4.2.1205 but not the patch 4.2.1312. Whether DPM uses CErtificates does not maater in this case.

Yes, the SSMS will enumerate all of the files in the directory. If there are enough files, it will take a long time to complete.

Newbie Coding error in Visio/ Active Directory
Hey guys
I'm relatively new to Microsoft Visio and Active Directory. I'm trying to display the username's in an active directory but I keep running into error. I constantly have to define all my classes and it makes me wonder if I am doing it right. For example, in the code given below, I typed in PrincipalContext which wasn't found and after right clicking I had to generate a class for it. After which now ContextType has an error "ContextType" doesn't exist the current context. So I have the option to either generate a property stub or a field stub. So what should I do in order to make sure that they are accessing the domain?
[code]
using System;
using System.Colletions.Generic;
using System.Linq;
using System.Text;
namespace ConsoleApplication
{
class Program
{
public void Main()
{
PrincipalContext ctx = new PrincipalContext(ContextType.Domain, "444444444.4444.44444";
UserPrincipal user = new UserPrincipal (ctx);
PrincipalSearcher ps = new PrincipalSearcher (user);

Type 4 PostScript Drivers, Problem with multiple copies when Collate is enabled
Good afternoon all,
We are seeing a strange problem when using the inbox HP Type 4 PostScript drivers for certain printers. In particular, the HP LaserJet 400 M401 PS Class driver and the HP LJ300-400 color M351-M451 PS Class Drivers. Whenever a user specifies multiple copies of a document, and collate is enabled, they will get many more copies than they ask for. If you disable collate, it will print the proper number. If we change to the PCL6 version of the Type 4 driver, then it seems to print normally. One thing I noticed is that the PS class drivers are all older version 6.3.9600.16384 while the PCL6 drivers are newer 6.3.9600.17415. The Microsoft Enhanced Point and Print compatibility driver is also 6.3.9600.17415, so I am wondering if the cause is a driver version mismatch (since all of our clients are Windows 7 Professional machines)?
Can somebody from Microsoft reach out and tell me if this is expected behavior or if something is up? I would expect the PS and PCL6 inbox class drivers to at least be the same version. HP was no help.

Hi,
Thanks for your post.
I think we need to keep the Microsoft Enhanced Point and Print compatibility driver and PS class driver version matching.
Please make sure the configuration is correct, if the configuration is ok, only the driver version is different, it may be caused by the driver version mismatch.

The 6.3.9600.16384 version is the driver that was built with the release on Server 2012R2. The 6.3.9600.17415 version would be one that included some patch from Microsoft.
I do see where there was a patch for the xps to printer PDL last year. Both these files are the 17415 version
--a-- W32x64 DRV ENU 0.3.9600.17415 shp 5,253,632 10-28-2014 msxpspcl6.dll
--a-- W32x64 DRV ENU 0.3.9600.17415 shp 5,243,392 10-28-2014 msxpsps.dll
The device functionality supported comes from HP. HP provides the driver to MS after HP has tested that the drivers work for the device. The vendor basically says, this works. There are file checks in place but MS is not testing the devices when HP said the driver works.
Since the PCL driver does work the way that you need it, is there a reason to go to the not working driver provided by HP?

Hi Alan, I was hoping this topic would catch your eye.
Collate appears to be broken with all the HP PostScript Class drivers. Unfortunately, I can't seem to get in touch with the right person/people at HP so I have little to no hope of it getting resolved.
There's no particular reason I need to go with the Post Script drivers per se, its just that from past experience I've tended to have better luck with Post Script drivers producing similar output across different devices.
I really prefer to use the Type 4 drivers; they seem lightweight and free of the usual vendor "add ons" such as supply status notification popups, etc, that tends to cause a lot of problems I've seen in the past.

:-) Good job.
Here's some additional information
I just tried this on my Win8.1 machine, it has the right version of the MSxpsPS.dll as 6.3.9600.17415. I could not repro the problem the TechNet webpage mentioned. I tried to print multiple pages multiple copies and collated job to an "HP Color LaserJet Flow MFP M880" high end printer and to "HP LaserJet 4100" older printer. Using this printer is not an issue as I can tell, since the PS v4 inbox class driver is basically the same one for all models. It sounds the customer needs to grab the latest MSxpsPS.dll.
I think you are using the .17415 version. I see the same in PrintManagement but the version I have is .17415.

I should point out that all of my clients connecting to the print server are Windows 7 Professional boxes, so they are getting and using the "Microsoft Enhanced Point and Print compatibility driver."
I've tried using 3 different Post Script HP v4 class drivers (HP LaserJet 400 M401 PS Class, HP Color LaserJet 4600 PS Class, and HP LJ300-400 color M351-M451 PS driver) all with the same result. They all report being at version 6.3.9600.16384. If I switch to the PCL6 version of those drivers, the driver version increments up to 6.3.9600.17415 and all the Windows 7 clients print fine. Also, I don't know that this matters but the PS class driver always reports the "Speed: Unknown" and "Staples: Yes" even when it doesn't staple, but if I switch to the PCL6 Class driver, it reports the speed and staple correctly.
I think HP made some kind of improvement between .16384 and .17415 that the Post Script drivers didn't receive.
