Exchange Server 2010
Dear All,
Could u clarify that how many users' mailbox can create exchange server 2010?
Is there any limit for assigning users mailboxes to mailbox server?
If we assume that we have 4000 users in organization then can we deploy one exchange server or we need many more.
If suppose we need to deploy 2 exchange server then scenario will be like below:
- One CAS Server
- One HUB Server
- Two Mailbox Server
If any changed will happen?

Pradip Sisodiya

If you want to deploy 2 server, if I were you, I will deploy 2 server multi roles (CAS + HUB + Mailbox) and create DAG + cas array.
it is hard to say if you need more than 2 server because I don't know the specs of your server. On the technet Exchange you can find info related to needs and prerequisites.
and for info you have some limitation :
- number of Dag members in a DAG
- number of Mailbox DB (5 for std edition and 100 for enterprises
however you can put 4000 users in a DB if you want.

Dear Bunenoflex,
Thanks for quick replay
Please clarify below question:
How can i determine that we have to deploy 1 or 2 exchange server 2010 for 4000 users .
Is there any limit article if ya please provide me
How many mailboxes create one exchange server 2010, is there any limit
How many users mailbox crate in one database.
I am agree with that we can create 100 mailbox database at exchange server2010 ent. then what is the size limit for creating mailbox per database.

The Mailbox Calculator referenced in the link can be a useful tool.
The number of users (4000) is certainly a key element but what is the *profile* of the users?
Note that they may not all have the same profile.
Profile? Profile has to do with matters like the number of emails sent and received per day.
You could have 5000 users. But if those users only receive/send, on average, one email a day, with no attachments on top if it, they may require a mailbox server with fewer resources than 500 users that send and receive 50+ messages a day with large attachments.
A single mailbox server could handle up to 5000 users, depending on the profile of those users and the hardware specifications of the server.
Here's another article:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee832789(v=exchg.141).aspx
The practical limit for maximum database size often quoted is 100 GB to 200GB - with a theorectical absolute upper limit of 16TB.
However, larger databases take longer to backup and restore.
More here:
As far as I know, there is no official or hard-coded limit to the number of mailboxes per database. There may be a practical limit based on your server hardware.
---
So... no hard limits but you need appropriate hardware.
Please mark as helpful if you find my contribution useful or as an answer if it does answer your question. That will encourage me - and others - to take time out to help you.

Hi Le pevert,
Thanks for sharing information.
And one more thing if i need to deploy 2 exchange server in my organization then shall we need to deploy only 2 mailbox server or as well as 2 CAS and HUB server.
and what will be scenario for deploying exchange server if we are assuming that 2GB will be mailbox limit for every user.

SQL Server 2008 R2 Setup problem resolution
Wish to share some experience that may be useful to others: I was trying to install SQL Server 2008 R2 Enterprise Edition 180-day Evaluation version on my 64-bit Windows 7 Ultimate Edition desktop. The installer kept failing with an error that just said: "C:\Windows\Installer\898234.msi". After some searching around on these forums and others I got a sense that the setup was expecting this msi file to be present in C:\Windows\Installer directory. Another conclusion was that this msi was something external to the SQL Server setup itself. Then I remembered that some time ago as part of a maintenance activity, a technician had deleted lot of files from several directories on my PC including the Temp directory. I checked the Recycle Bin and luckily all the deleted files were there including the 898234.msi. I restored all the files and confirmed that this msi was restored back to C:\Windows\Installer. The SQL Server Setup ran successfully after that.
Check out the Cause section in this KB: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/969052. So basically some earlier installer put this particular msi in the C:\Windows\Installer folder and the SQL Server setup depended on it being present there.
Lesson learnt: Do not fiddle with the C:\Windows\Installer directory even if it takes up large amount of space. You never know what effects it may have in future.

Hi Girish,
You were lucky that the files deleted were found in the recycled bin. I have had other people who were not so lucky enough. In case you encounter the missing msi files. You can try the following kb article which help me in resolving such issues.

BAD SYSTEM CONFIG INFO Windows 7
So, just throwing this up there for posterities sake. Had a user run into this BSOD when starting windows. Deduced from somewhere that it's saying that the registry is corrupt.
There are posts all over the internet with people who have tried and failed to resolve this through system restore, etc... so I just skipped that, booted into system restore, and copied the files from c:\windows\system32\config\RegBack (which are a backup that windows made of the registry a few weeks ago, for me) to c:\windows\system32\config (where the registry hives usually sit).
works fine now.

ALERT! LATEST SCAM
1-17-13
Got a call from an unknown number, stupid me, I answered it.
A man 'Michael' claimed to be from Microsoft and told me I was due a refund for overpaying on my warranty. As I had gotten the extended warranty for my computer, it made sense.
He took me through a website www.showmypc.com to allow his tech access to the computer to fill out the appropriate forms for me with me filling in other information needed.
Then I was taken to Western Union and filled out a form saying the $ was from me. Got to the point of typing in the recipient name and was asked to use my Middle name to receive my refund. Or my husbands name.
Hmmm. To me, from me, going to.... Hong Kong. I asked why and was told the corporate office was located in Hong Kong. I told them I had no middle name and they should call back.
How do I report this and how do I make sure they don't have access to my computer now? It's password protected now and I deleted the website. How do I get into the firewall to block the remote access? Anyone know? Thanks

Thanks for the information. Call the police for property loss. Turn Windows firewall on and they won't gain the access to your computer without your permission.
