Hello, 

Am wondering how can we migrate NON DC windows 2003/2003r2 to windows 2008/2008r2 ?

Below links explains how to do migration or prerequisites but is anyone already done this project?

Hello Dharanesh, migration of a server is based on application / role installed on it. If it's a role you need to follow the guide to transfert / migration the role on a new operating systems.

If it's an application, you should refer to the software guide that helps on migration of the software on a new operating system ( install the same software in parallel, ... )

Hello,

if the installed software is checked to work with the new OS version you can use the installation disk from the new OS version, if the architecture(32bit or 64bit could be ONLY upgraded to the same) is the same, and do an in place upgrade.

Also keep in mind that you have to check for drivers BEFORE starting.

Does Skype for Business Web App plugin for Chrome use NPAPI?

Could someone verify that the new Skype For Business Web App Plug-in doesn't use NPAPI in Chrome?

- your Chrome version is 32-bit and is 42.0.2311.90 or higher

- the Chrome NPAPI plugins are disabled with chrome://flags/#enable-npapi (remember to restart browser)

and you can still connect to the meeting with audio and presentation capabilities by installing the new SkypeForBusinessPlugin.msi

Well, I did some research and I'm pretty sure now that the Skype 4 Business Server 2015 has not updated the Chrome NPAPI-based plugin. This plugin is required to signing into the meeting with audio and presentation capabilities from Chrome browser.

This is the official information from MS:

Automatic PushDown of ScreenSaver / WallPaper

Hi Windows Server Expert,

We are using Windows Server 2008 R2 in our company. We would like to have a group policy to push down the wallpaper or screensaver per user that login to our domains computers. That's mean when the users login to any of the computer, the wallpaper or screensaver will be pushed down automatically to their profile. Please advise.

 This setting can be found "User Configuration->Administrative Templates->Desktop->Desktop" and is straight forward to configure as all you have to do is specify the explicit a UNC to the image you want displayed as the desktop Wallpaper.

Also if you are runing Windows 7/Server 2008 r2 pre-service pack 1 you will need to install this hotfix;

Hi Burak,

thanks for the advise. As i am trying to apply to the user login, meaning i will do it under user configuration. in this case, is it the wallpaper will be pushed down everytime users login to computers? what will happen if the wallpaper has been pushed down as user has login to that specific computer before? does it mean that it will keep overwriting?

Beside wallpaper that will automatically assigned to the background, I have another criteria.

How if i want to play the image everytime user login? i plan to push the link to the startup folder in windows, so soon after the user login, it will play the image automatically. in my case here, i plan to store the image inside the server, thus under the startup menu, it will just run the file.

please advise.

- this is user configuration GPO so when user logon any computer thats why gpo apply to any computer.The wallpaper configuration keeps under the user settings.

- the second case you can use user logon script Gpo wth configure a scrpit for run play image.

I can't tell what is going on here. Does the c:\windows directory actually exist?

Can you copy the bdd.log and dism.log file to a public share like Onedrive and share the link?

Power BI Set Up

Hi,

I signed up to Power BI over a week ago as we need to be able to work on the same Excel document at the same time and was told Power BI was the way to do it. However, when i try to open POwer BI it just says 'We are working on it' and then a screen comes up saying 'we are almost ready'. It has been like this for over a week now and we really need to start using it. Im obviously doing something wrong. Can someone please help?

Pivot Table Available Functionality in Power BI - Field List?

If you embed an Excel Workbook on SharePoint online / Office 365 that has a Pivot Table, you are allowed to access the Field List and choose to modify the rows, columns, filters and values.

Is this functionality available in Power BI site?  I can navigate the Pivot Table and expand/collapse columns, but I can't see the Field List/Chooser in the same workbook as above in Power BI.

and when/how often

this is possible on premise using extended events/trace events/or the built in DMVs in tabular AS, or the health monitor dashboard in the powerview gallery in on premise sharepoint.

Sharepoint Online - Json Data Refresh

Hi,

We are connecting to Json and CSV Files in PowerQuery by using "Web.Contents" in the Query.

Now we would like to publish the Workbooks on Sharepoint Online.

Unfortunatly we are not able to refresh the Data Sources ("External Data Refresh Failed").

In the Power BI Admin Center a Gateway was created and new Datasources were added by using the Connecting-String from the Excel Workbook.

What are we missing? Are Json and CSV supported to be refreshed?

When saving the Excel File to Sharepoint I have to choose between Universal Data Connnection or ODC - which one is correct?

Subscription Clarification

Hi.

Office 365 plans continue to boggle my mind.

I currently have Office 365 Midsize Business so office plus is in that and I get power BI in office. Interestingly it just asked me to renew even though you can't buy it anymore. I renewed it.

However looking at the options now on sale on https://products.office.com/en-gb/business/compare-more-office-365-for-business-plans Office 365 Midsize Business isn't even there anymore.

According to this page I need Office 365 Pro Plus. Ok no biggy, it's about the same price. My question though is that Office 365 Pro Plus doesn't have "Intranet site for your teams with customizable security settings"

Q1 : Is "Intranet site for your teams with customizable security settings" the sharepoint site that I need to publish power bi reports for others to see?

Q2 : So to have both parts of the full story I have to get the top priced Office 365 Enterprise E3?

I know this is all in flux I just want to understand what I'm signing up for in my subscription and what I need to say to my customers.

Service down?

Is anyone else's PowerBI service dead?   Ours has been completely out the last 2 days and every report we have has the following error:

OnPremise error: Sorry, we can't connect to this data source. Ask your Power BI admin to check whether the Data Management Gateway is offline.

When we try to log into our Admin Center, we get 'Oops, something went wrong', and can't even log-in.

Scheduled Data Refresh fails with 400 error

I've setup a PowerPivot Model, connected 1.5 Million rows (57MB file) rendered the data in a powerpivot table and uploaded it to an PowerBI enabled BI site in O365.

Report renders online

Q&A works too

Configured data management gateway

Connected DMG to PowerBI

Configure data source with the same Connection String

Set credentials for data source with Status OK (only can do this step from a domain joined computer which I find odd)

Enabled Data Refresh on the Report with status OK (i.e. it found the corresponding data connection on the gateway)

Tried to manually refresh the data.... no luck. keeps on failing with the following error message

Failure Correlation ID: c1dcf840-e0c8-45d6-9720-b4d2c9695b5a

Errors in the high-level relational engine. The following exception occurred while the managed IDataReader interface was being used: The operation was canceled.;transfer service job status is invalid Response status code does not indicate success: 400 (Bad Request).. The current operation was cancelled because another operation in the transaction failed.

Everything seems properly configured. lots of green ticks whenever I set things up. But manual refresh keeps on failing.

Just drilled into the DMG event logs. Looks like I'm receiving a timeout issue. Any thoughts on how to solve this?

I've reduced the query down to 100,000 records and now I'm getting

The DMG is not even registering the attempt in the event logs.

Before at least I managed to get this:

So far my analysis is:

1.5M rows = won't even start pushing data and will timeout very early in the process

300,000 rows = will get past the initial timeout (probably the query identifying how much data needs to move), just to crash on the second timeout (actually pushing the data to the cloud).

How to connect to SQL Azure database

In Power BI Designer/Get Data/Azure/Microsoft Azure SQL Database, I enter the server and database names and get the following message. Can you suggest what the problem is, how to resolve it? What are the best ways to connect to SQL Azure databases? Thanks.
