SharePoint 2010 compatibilty issues with IE9 64bit
I'm running SharePoint 2k10 on a Windows Server 2008 Server (not R2), my clients are a mix of Windows 7 64bit and 32bit as well as some Windows Vista 32bit; all are running the latest patched version of IE9.
On the 64bit clients they are continually being prompted for credentials by SharePoint when they trying to edit Office files, primarily Powerpoint presentations. Ultimately entering the correct credentials will not allow them to edit. It doesn't matter whether they check the file out first or not. I know I've seen some literature on this problem before but I can't find it.
The only work around I've found is use IE9 in 32bit mode. If that's the "fix" how can I force IE into 32bit mode on my clients via Group Policy?
Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Interesting... So the "fix" is to use IE in 32bit mode?
Any idea how I force my domain users to use 32bit mode or disable 64bit mode via a group policy?
------------------------------------
Reply:
The fix is to use a supported browser, so yes, IE in 32bit mode. Office 32bit should also be used. Neither Office 64bit nor IE 64bit contain many of the ActiveX controls used by SharePoint; those controls were only developed and included for 32bit applications.
As for domain wide, no I don't. I suppose you could remove the link from the all user's start menu via a startup script.

Why Does Microsoft Make It So Difficult To Apply Branding To SharePoint?
Since working with SharePoint 2007 for many years and continuing to work with SharePoint 2010 it is not easy to apply branding/styles/custom design to allow easy customisation to the look and feel.
Of course there are themes etc. etc. but a simple customisation such as branding the header of a web part or applying rounded corners to a web part causes untold misery. There are many many various solutions but none of them work exactly or easily:
http://chrisstahl.wordpress.com/2012/01/27/customize-the-ui-of-web-parts-in-sharepoint-2010/
http://erikswenson.blogspot.ie/2010/04/sharepoint-tab-web-part-jquery-java-and.html
http://sharepoint.stackexchange.com/questions/24380/rounded-corners-in-webpart-headers-sp2010
http://blog.amtopm.be/2011/02/14/how-to-add-rounded-corners-to-your-web-parts/
Surely at this stage in the life cycle of the SharePoint platform Microsoft can provide an easy way to apply custom branding to the various visual elements in SharePoint without having to jump through hoops?
Why is this still so difficult, with no standard/best practice method, with SharePoint 2010?
Reply:
Sorry to hear you're having issues with branding. It can certainly pose a challenge and I've had some headaches myself with branding efforts. There are a lot of good resources out there to help with these tasks, like the ones you have pointed out.
If you're so inclined, I would recommend getting the Professional SharePoint 2010 Branding and User Interface
Design book from Wrox: http://www.amazon.com/Professional-SharePoint-Branding-Interface-Programmer/dp/0470584645/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1347325866&sr=8-1&keywords=SharePOint+2010+branding
Its a great book that covers branding in detail.
Even though it won't help you out in 2010, SharePoint 2013 has a brand new interface for branding efforts called the Design Manager: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj163942(v=office.15)#SP15_WhatsNewSiteDevelopment_AuthoringAndBranding
From the MSDN article, "With the Design Manager, you only need to edit the HTML files—while you can continue to write custom master pages and page layouts using ASP.NET and SharePoint development skills, the Design Manager enables you to design great sites without SharePoint developer expertise."
Good luck!

Why The Cloud Push Will Fail!
Web sites serviced by DNS and hosting provider GoDaddy were down today. A hacker using the "Anonymous Own3r" Twitter account claimed credit for the outage.
This kind of stuff will only get worse!
Do you want your customers screaming at you that they don't have access to their web applications or files?

Whilst I agree at this point of time, with current Australian laws for some verticle markets, with current slow Aussie broadband speeds, with most cloud servers being outside of Australia and with there being outage/lost data/hackers to worry about, the cloud seems doomed to fail (At least for people in the same situation as I find myself in).
I must conceed though that things are getting better. Things are moving to the cloud and it can't fail as the people involved will not let it fail. I think in a few years, we will be more accepting and the cloud will have many of the bugs removed.
I still see a need for on premisis solutions however, the cloud can be a great addition to make a hybrid network.
I guess we are all going to have to move to onside to give the cloud room to move.

Pass data between Infopath Form fields in seperate Form Web Parts (Codeless!)...
Hello!
I am looking for a codeless solutions but will accept a code solution (provided you can tell me where to put it!).
My Skill Level: Beginner
Scenario...
- I have a Web Part Page in SharePoint with 2 Infopath Forms open side by side (each connected to seperate lists).
- When the user edits the first form, the form sends the value from 1 Field to a Field in the second form (Not Working!).
This is where I have the issue. I have tried using Query String Filter Web Part to pass the data without success (perhaps I am not using it correctly). It will only send what I entered in the "Default Value" field in the Query String Filter settings. If I remove the "Default Value" then no data is sent.
I would appreciate any assistance/direction.

Figured it out myself.
In SharePoint, when you're in Edit mode on your Web Part page, click on the dropdown arrow next to the title of your Web Part. Click on 'Connections'. The rest is pretty straight forward, choose the field 'From' and the field 'To' and your done. You can populate as many fields as you want.

There should be a Left function in there - or maybe the Replace function could help you. The complete reference is here - http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff800820(v=ws.10).aspx.
You may need to combine some of the functions.
I do tend to write advanced flows for these situations (and often combine them with regular expressions) soon as it gets just a little bit fancy as you can quickly find limitations in the currently available standard functions.

A screencast demonstration of how I've been using Win2012 Metro for administrative tasks and how it's speed up my workflow.
==== Please keep in mind that, I'm not posting this to be inflammatory. ======
Flame off please.. :)
I get that not everyone works the way I do and that some people feel the new metro UI slows them down. I didn't like it at first either but I've been working on it for a few weeks and now it's natural and fast.. I'd say FOR ME it's even faster then Win2k8 for some tasks.
I'm not trying to prove anything, nor am I trying to change anyone's opinion. This is simply a demonstration of my workflow.
Some might find it helpful, 5 quick tips on how to get to to things quickly for others it will be old news..
I probably could have found more ways to get there but I didn't want to beleaguer the point.

I like some of the keyboard/other shortcuts you've identified, but these have been around for a while, and seem to actually prove "the interface formally known as 'Metro'" isn't helping you do anything! You're using shortcuts to avoid it...

Bitlocker with MBAM issue with blackberry
Hi,
i put in place an mbam solution, and enable, with the policies, the encryption of external drives (usb devices), but i have a problem with the blackberry phones, bitlocker see it like a normal usb stick and ask for a password to encrypt, but then after disconnect the usb cable, in the phone we can't access to the data on it. Do anybody knows how can i exclude the blackberry's in the mbam or solve the problem in another way.Thanks.

Hi,
this is the System Center Configuration Manager "General" forum.
Your question would be better directed to some other forum, since MBAM is not a ConfigMgr technology feature.
e.g. this thread in the Windows7 Security forum (since MBAM relates to BitLocker, and BitLocker is a Windows client feature)
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/w7itprosecurity/thread/28d858c4-a334-4446-9d60-65e8efda09a1
FWIW, I agree with the comments in the thread, i.e., unless RIM offer a BitLocker-compatible supported interface for their smartphone, it may be best to *not* use BitLocker on USB devices where BlackBerry storage coincides. I'm not using MBAM so can't advise if MBAM can exclude BB storage by DeviceID or PnPID or similar.

It may help to look at the minidump files from the crashes with a debugger.
Can you zip up the minidump files in the C:\Windows\Minidump folder and make available (provide link) via Windows Live SkyDrive or similar site?
The following link has information on using Windows Live SkyDrive:
If you have problems zipping the minidump files copy the minidump files to another location such as a folder on the Desktop
Also, you do not necessarily have to zip up the minidump files, you can upload them one at a time.

Rename Existing Ribbon TABs in PWA

Hey Parth--
Did you try using the Jquery. I just used the sample & i was able to replace the Browse with PWA. You may need to indert a contnet editor webpart & have the Jquery plugins.
On the span class , ms-cui-tt-span the Text is Browse, You can replace the Browse with PWA or as per your requirement.
$(document).ready(function() { $('#s4-ribbonrow').click(function(e) { if ($(e.target).hasClass('ms-cui-tt-span')) { } }); }); You may want to take a ref on using Content editor :http://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/office/SharePoint-list-Lookup-0c748ae0/
Hope that helps.

Reply:
Hi Parth--
I noticed that if you rename the Browse Tab using Jquery , It has the event associated with it & when you click , it changes back to Browse. Here is the code what I used. Upload the Jquery plugins on PWA shared doc.
<script src="/PWA/Shared%20Documents/jquery-1.4.1.js" type="text/javascript"></script><script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function() { $(".ms-cui-tt-span").first().text("Custom text"); });</script> I did some research & found that the Browse button is a special button in Sharepoint 2010.
You may need to modify the PWAribbon.xml as oen of the article in SDK:
"it's the header of the tab. As the summary - you can replace the Read tab with the standard Ribbon element replacement technique and specify the desired text. Here's the XML of the definition: "

Hi There,
I had a conversation with Microsoft support about this and they said the most common issue for this was connectivity issues with the SQL DB. We did some maintenance around moving instances to seperate out the FIM Service and Sync Service to separate instances and haven't had anyone complaining about the issue. Check the timeouts on SQL as the failure appears to be the detection of the deltas which are what cause the "Submit" button to appear.

SharePoint 2010 list SharePoint Designer 2010 - Holiday Request Workflow
Hi,
I am trying to create a workflow which will :-
-Employee submits holiday request form through info path on a page
-once submitted the holiday requests goes to the employees line manager for approval (email to line manager or a alert)
-if approved the employee is notified with an email and there holiday entitlement stored on another list is updated. (how to do this?) also if the line manager of the current employee is off or cant approve it goes to another line manager who can also approve holidays of other line managers. (how to do this?)
-if the holiday request is rejected by the line manager then employee is informed by email the workflow stops until employee submits another holiday request.
I can get a simple holiday request done with approve or reject but its the holiday entitlement and grouping of managers ie my line manager is out the office or on holiday so as they cant approve so the holiday request is sent to another line manager?
I also want to be able to show this on a calendar at the home page
I've looked online for some tutorials/guidance from what I've done not been much use or doesn't explain it in too much detail - any other tutorials that perhaps a bit more depth with detail would be much appreciated
thanks

Hi Lindsay,
Welcome to the forums.
The key to this, if you're using SPD is to take advange of the "Collect Feedback" action. Setting up the parameters for this will create an Infopath XSN form that'll replace the OOB newform.aspx. You can then set stages for this depending on whether the holiday is approved or not to generate an email to the requesting party.
Upon approval, you should be able to submit an entry to a calendar, although I've not done this before, in theory it should be possible.

"The URL contains an invalid parameter" error after upgrade UAG to SP2
Hello,
We notice that in some occasions, after upgrading UAG to SP2, initial access to the portal fail with the following error:
"You have attempted to access a restricted URL
The URL contains an invalid parameter"
This seems to happen because SP2 (and maybe earlier security hotfix) add a special parameter URLHASH and the InternalSite_Rule1 not get updated to include it.
To fix the issue you need to add the following parameter to InternalSite_Rule1 rule:
Name: urlhash
Value: [0-9a-z\-]+
Length: 0:50
Hope this helps,
