Router constantly disconnecting all connected users

Router constantly disconnecting all connected users

For the past 3 days my home router has been randomly disconnecting all connected parties from the internet

This includes - Phones, Laptops, iPads and PCs

No one is unaffected - so it seems

I can launch Firefox and search Google for probably 30 seconds - or even access other news websites - before the connection is cut-off and restarts in anywhere from 5 seconds to 5 minutes

I've tried countless times "restarting" the router - but no success

When I try and "Troubleshoot" problems from my PC on the Internet Connection the reason is normally do to with

- "Weak link with DNS Server"

- "DNS server not responding"

- "Cannot establish link with DNS Server"

Nearly every response from the troubleshoot or "diagnose" comes up with answers relating to the DNS server

Alas no one in my family can access the internet for over 5 minutes in any given internet session

Any help / suggestions will be greatly appreciated

Thanks in advance

You need to talk to the Technical Support of your router's manufacturer.

The router is not a Microsoft product.  Windows 7 does not control the router actions.

You might also contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP).

Since this is affecting all your hardware, it is obviously not a Windows problem.  It is a problem with either you router, your ISP, or both.

Reading digitally signed attachment EWS

Hi,

We have exchange 2010 and using Exchange web service to read a mail box.

Now when we try to read an email having attachment and digitally signed, we are seeing only .p7m file as an attchment for that mail. When we look at that email (in outlook) we can see a certificate(it shoudl be .p7m) and a pdf file which is getting displayed as another email attachent to email.

Our code works fine for all attachments(including ebeded emails) but fails to read the digitally signed email.

In above case in the code we shoud see one .p7m attachment and the other as ebeded email attachmet but I can see ony. p7m file.

Any idea how to read this?

Microsoft shifting the blame for Windows 8

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2013/01/24/windows_8_blame_game/

A separate source at a major Windows 8 PC maker confirmed frustration is simmering
inside Microsoft, and the blame is settling on PC makers. He said [Microsoft]
"is pinning the blame on the manufacturers for not having enough touch-based
product".

...

Exclusive Microsoft blames PC makers for
underwhelming Windows 8 sales over Christmas, The Register has learned. The
software giant accused manufacturers of not building enough attractive Win
8-powered touchscreen tablets.

But the computer makers are fighting back:
they claimed that if they'd followed Microsoft's hardware requirements and
ramped up production, they'd have ended up building a lot of high-end expensive
slabs that consumers didn't understand nor want.

...

Now
Microsoft is planning to reboot its launch of Windows 8 next month. On Tuesday
the company gave 9 February as the date for the US and Canada unveiling of the
Intel-powered Surface Pro tablets. But sources tell us Microsoft is actually
preparing for a February "relaunch" of Windows 8.

The Windows Pro Surface
was planned to emerge in January, 90 days after Windows 8 and ARM-powered
Windows RT Surface devices went on sale. That has clearly slipped.

Our well-placed source said that bad sales combined with PC makers "ignoring"
Microsoft's advice has left Redmond executives fuming.

"Microsoft is very frustrated with major OEMs who didn't build nearly enough touch systems and are
now struggling to find parts and ramp up. Microsoft says they provided very
specific guidance on what to build," our insider said.

The European launch of Windows 8 lacked the punch and focus expected by PC makers,
as Microsoft focussed much of its efforts on the US and
Surface.

"Microsoft is not blaming itself for not selling enough Surface,
it's blaming OEMs for not having enough touch-based product," our supply chain
source said.

They are in a COMPLETE DENIAL.  Heretic thought: Could the subpar sales have something to do with W8, huh?

So, W8 relaunch in February..  The most dormant time frame of the year for commerce. This will be surely a hit!

Help with NTP Server in 2008R2

Hello,

We had an authoritative time server configured on Server 2008 Ent. Also we applied the NTP client settings via group policy. Recently we moved the NTP server to 2008R2 and made changes on the GPO so that the clients have to get time settings from the new server. I used the 'fixit' from the below document to configure the same in 2008R2 to obtain time from an external source. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/816042 . The Server is syncing with time.windows.com. But now the clients are not getting the time from the server 2008R2. When I run the command 'w32tm /resync' It is saying 'Sending resync command to local computer The computer did not resync because no time data was available.'  How do I troubleshoot this?  Please help me out.

Regards,

Tony

try to use w32tm /query /source  to view wich source is added.

look at http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc773263(v=ws.10).aspx to other parameters.

Hello,

When I initiated the command w32tm /query /source it shows 'Local CMOS Clock' as the source in client machines. And in NTP server it is 'time.nist.gov,0x1'. The problem is, 2008R2 is not advertising itself as an NTP  server. I changed these registry settings to make it as an NTP Server:

1.) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\W32Time\Config\ AnnounceFlags value modified to 5

2.)HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\W32Time\TimeProviders\NtpServer Enabled value modified to 1

3.)Restarted time services net stop w32time & net start w32time

I also tried a hot fix from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/816042. But neither not working.

Also find the output of the below commands:

C:\Users\admin>w32tm /monitor
R2xxxxxV002.xxxx.com[[::1]:123]:
    ICMP: 0ms delay
NTP: error ERROR_TIMEOUT - no response from server in 1000ms
R3xxxxxx024.xxxx.com *** PDC ***[192.168.4.26:123]:
    ICMP: 72ms delay
NTP: error ERROR_TIMEOUT - no response from server in 1000ms

C:\Users\admin>w32tm /resync
Sending resync command to local computer
The computer did not resync because no time data was available.

Can anyone help me out please.

Tony

Error when attempting to use Office 2013 .admx files

I have copied all of the new policy files to my admx policy store. When I open up a GPQ to edit it, I get the following error:

After opening up the GPO files I see that they are trying to use a namespace of xxxxx14. I still have all of my Office 2010 templates in the system. Can they not be used together? Anyone else having issues with this?

Reply:

That's gotta be a bug (probably a simple typo) in the template file.

Yes, you should be able to use together with previous templates (since that's always been possible in previous versions).

I haven't had this issue myself, but I haven't begun to play with the admin templates yet.

Did this occur when you copied the template files from the Office source files or did you use the admin template download pack?

If from the source files, was this from preview media/source or RTM?

I have the same issue.

I have downloaded the only administrative template for Office 2013 i can find:
Office 2013 Preview Administrative Template from: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=30341

It gives the same error when lying in the Office 2013 admx files together with my Office 2010 ADMX files.

Anyone have a solution to have both administrative template for Office 2010 and 2013????

I solved it by opening all the ADMX files in notepad and changed the version in the below code to 15.

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-16"?>
<policyDefinitions revision="1.0" schemaVersion="1.0">
  <policyNamespaces>
    <target prefix="access15" namespace="access15.Office.Microsoft.Policies.Windows" />
    <using prefix="windows" namespace="Microsoft.Policies.Windows" />
  </policyNamespaces>
  <supersededAdm fileName="access15" />
  <resources minRequiredRevision="1.0" />

Also remember to download and place all the ADM file in the "en-us" folder.

That worked for me.

Thank you everyone for reporting this issue.

We took a look at the RTM templates and believe that they are correct. We're going to run another test pass just to be sure. If you are still having issues with the RTM version, can you let us know how you reproduced the issue?

Thanks again,

Reply:

repro steps would be similar to:

AD based on server2008 (or later)
GP central store setup for hosting the Admin templates
load Office2010 (OFF14) admin templates into central store
load Office2013 (OFF15) admin templates into central store
open GPMC on the domain controller - duplicate namespace error should occur, when GPMC parses the ADMX files

Hi Don, looking at the RTM templates, we believe they are fixed (I do see the error in the preview templates. However, on my local box, I can open the Office14 and Office15 templates in gpedit without issue). But NetManCromer said earlier that the RTM templates still don't work. That's what we're trying to confirm--how to reproduce the O15 issue.

I was having this issue after mistakenly downloading the Office 2013 Preview templates, but after downloading the correct RTM templates and replacing overtop of the preview templates, most of my issue went away.  I am still having an issue with the spw15.admx file.

It would appear the Preview package included this spw15.admx file but the RTM release did not so this file did not get overwritten.  After removing this file (and it's accompanying en-us\spw15.adml file) all is well.

Can you inform us as to what this spw15.admx file is for?  Should we have this in the RTM release?

spw would be SharePointWorkspace - but SPW does not ship with Office15....?

So everything looks fine until it target the email as Spam, I thought it was the reception's domain blocking us, but then it shows our server name.  We are using just a normal router from Linksys (WRT160n) with port forwarding port 25 for SMTP, other than that we don't have any other firewall with ESMTP.  I'm not the one who configured the exchange server, it was a company we hired long time ago, so not sure where I should look.  I'm not sure how to use Telnet to test.

It seems to indicate the  recipients system is rejecting your email not your Exch server. Your Exch server is just generating the NDR because the remote system is not allowing it to submit that message.

The recipients's org may have you blacklisted or be subscribed to an RBL blacklist which has you listed. Ask them to whitelist you.

The error reads "The trust relationship between this workstation and the primary domain failed." This error is reporting for both the Admin and user login. I have deleted and reinstated the User login from the server. I am currently locked out of the User workstation so am unable to access/alter the configuration. Server is SBS 2011 Standard.

Would appreciate any information that may assist in my regaining control of this workstation.

Hi Mike,

Here are two articles and one discussion about the trust relationship between workstation and domain.

I suggest you check the domain Active Directory settings.

Emal Alias Configuration with PowerShell for Exchange Online

I found a rather old post for (presumably) on-premise:

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/exchangesvrdevelopment/thread/92e50e90-978a-4db1-93ad-b04317ad5173/

All samples for Exchange Online show something like New-PSSession / Import-PSSession. Isn't it possible to use the Exchange Management Shell 2013 w/out doing this? (EMC 2013 can add a Exchange Online forest)

And as a second step, run this PS inside C# using the code from the discussion I linked to (that's why I posted this to development)

Is this possible at all?

Chris

Chris,

New-PSSession / Import-PSSession is not required when you operate Exchange related cmdlets in EMS. But when you use 'Remore PoerShell' to connect Exchange Environment, you have to import Exchange related cmdlets. This is applicable for Exchange On Premises or Exchange Online

If you looking to run the EMS cmdlets for Exchange Online in C# have a read of http://blogs.msdn.com/b/mvpawardprogram/archive/2011/08/29/mvps-for-exchange-online-calling-exchange-online-powershell-cmdlets-from-c.aspx (the endpoint of Exchange Online preview of 2013 is the same).

BTW there is no EMC in Exchange 2013  http://blogs.technet.com/b/catastrophic_failure_joannav/archive/2012/07/31/where-is-the-emc-in-exchange-server-2013.aspx there is only the Web Based EAC.

Link #1 works like a charm. That's the kind of solution I was looking for.

EMC: so after all it was a good thing that Exchange 2013 balked at installing the management on a non-domain joined computer. (because it would have been pointless)

Thanks,

 Chris

Create another state called "Inactive" for the Forum……

Until now we have two states: Answered and Discussion. But sometimes some problems cannot be given a direct solution (something like I met with some problems, but when I started my PC everything suddenly went right without anything modifications).

And what's more, some issues are "too overdue", MSDN forum will automatically mark them "Inacive" to tip communicators

All in all, to such a "problem without direct solutions", Hope U microsoft can add another (third) state that allows us to close the issue or lock the issue, or make it "Inactive" until some-one replies.

Reguards!

If this is just for your personal management of threads use the NNTP bridge.   Then you can Flag posts or mark posts Unread as you desire.

Otherwise, using just the current forum functionality you can also mark threads with Alert Me and then find them again via My Alerts long after they have disappeared off your current radar.

Hello,

 Thanks。

I just found that some replies to problem weren't real solutions. So "Inactive" means that the thread isn't warmly welcomed or has seldom answers. As for "Locked or Closed Issue", I mean the questioner has answerted his/her question directly, or the problem is somehow solved but the "solution" isn't real one.

Windows 8 black screen at first user's logon

I have been deploying Windows 8 laptops for my company using MDT 2012 U1 for a while and everything was fine.

Then all the sudden I get a completely black screen when users log in for the first time on their newly built PCs and can't do anything. The only thing visible is the cursor. After a long while (about 5 minutes) then Windows wakes up and shows the Start Screen (not all Tiles, though).

The only difference is that only recently I am installing some new Windows Updates. I am now trying to isolate which update causes this and I think it is one of the .NET 4.5 ones.

I noticed that I had a black screen even before the last updates, but it was shown only for a short period of time. After the udpates this period is way longer. I think it is to do with intalling Metro Apps on the Start Screen for the user. Something has changed and the install takes longer. Multiply this for all Metro Apps on the Start Screen and it stays there forever.

Has anybody else noticed this?

Hyper-V cannot launch VM

I am new to Hyper-V. I have tried to launch some previous VM's that were created in Win7 Virtual PC and the first screen that pops up is [Windows Security] that says my credentials did not work (not even Administrator). However I did manage to get one of the usernames, who is an admin, to start the VM. The next popup reads 'This user account cannot access the virtual machine's video.....'. I have searched all over and can't seem to find anything with a solution. In reading some articles concerning RemoteFX 3D Video adapter, I have tried, in Settings' but cannot remove this video adapter-the remove button is greyed out.

I have also tried installing a new VM install of Windows7 from the DVD drive and again I get the same 'cannot access video' error.

The PC is an AMD FX6100 and yes, the VT has been activated in the Bios.

Any suggestions? Much appreciated.

Reply:

I can suggest you a simple story about Hyper-V,

You just make one more VM named as Win-7. and install os from CD / ISo Image on this vm.

Now try to acces it. It will work.

Rest about you VMs which was running on Virtual PC; these VMs can also work. simply you need to make a new vm in Hyper-v where at the time of hard disk creation page; you will save use an exisitng there you can browse the .vhd of the vm (Which was runnig on Virual PC).

LAN card Usage

Hi everybody,

There is a HP Proliant Server in my office. it works with fast ethernet lan card(100Mbps).(win server 2003 sp2)

what percent of "network utilization"(networking tab, task manager) does consider as a best performance for lan card?

Reply:

Network utilization can vary and be affected by a number of things, such as the speed of the NIC, port switch speed, network traffic load of applications and services communicating in the background, etc. You can run performance logging to look at it further, but the results can be skewed by the services and apps running, as well as the other variables. On top of that, viruses can eat up network traffic, depending on the virus.

Are there any concerns with network traffic? If yes, what prompted the concerns?

Happy, Impressed New Win8 End Users

I live in Calgary but, help clients who may be in other cities, Provinces or Countries.

Recently, I have worked remotely, using RA, w/ several clients who were newly installing Windows 8 (before the promo ends).  In each case I have given them the Applications window and Desktop Toolbar.

W/out exception, they all are excited to use it w/ those things, very happy w/ Windows 8, impressed w/ it for Features, technology and ease of use.  Though familiar w/ 7 & XP and from 40 to 75 years old, they did not find it hard to now understand or enjoy Windows 8.

Even, they heard negative things said or written about the OS yet, after I gave them the above 'tips' & showed them a couple of basics, they like Win8 & don't see why the bad press exists.

Go figure...

Cheers,
Drew

Vista too?  Now there's a real vintage machine.

Don't forget to tell him how to remove that Windows.old folder.  He'll not be needing that.

I'm upgrading a RP installation to Pro, right now as we speak.

Did you know you can do the whole thing online?

I gave up on my HP All-in-one printer that communicates by way of Ad Hoc network.

Windows 8 kind of ditched Ad Hoc, I think.

Reply:
None w/ VPN.  None had printer issues, either.  One wondered about that & expected they would have to do it manually; I'd suggested Win8 might well take care of it all by itself.  By the time the OS was live & I was accepting the RA request their printer was, already, done by Win8... I smiled through an "I told you so".  I can't recall what brand it was but, an older model.

So far I've not hit much Win8 won't install, software or hardware; but, that's just from myself & my clients.

Yes, I have heard the whole thing can be done online.

When we went from beta Vista & Windows 7 betas we could not upgrade them to RTM or GA.  And then there is Windows 8 Upgrade that seems will do it.  Not to mention, Win7 Upgrades would not go from XP; this not only does that but, keeps data... from 7 will keep everything.  Yes, 8 is on a higher plane than we have know previously.

I believe we did dump the windows.old folder although, bit of a moot point or no harm, no foul since, there was nothing in it or of any interest, anyway.  It was a "Keep Nothing" install.

Vista vintage?  Somewhat I suppose, 3 to 5 yrs old.  Then, again, many are going from XP to Win8... now that's vintage.

My main point was that in spite of the bashing of Windows 8 over the past months... MS took this & that away, the UI stinks, forces stuff upon consumers, hard to navigate, not intuitive, APPs are dumb, can't find anything, nobody will know how to use it, old Folks will be stymied and on & on.  Yet, w/ a regular window for applications, the Desktop Toolbar & a few minutes of show-n-tell, people, even older people coming from familiarity w/ other Operating Systems, lo & behold, think well of Windows 8.  Admittedly, they realize almost everything about 8 is optional (no coercion to APPs or certain screens or methods) & most are working primarily on Desktop & not going to Start or WinQ very much. Oh & so far these have all been non-Touch.

Cheers,
Drew

Those are certainly a lot of objections.

Are you sure you're trying to promote Windows 8 ?

Maybe this post of yours would be a little more upbeat, minus those kind of details.

Anyway.

I can't begin to guess how humongous that former Vista system's Windows.old folder would be.

Even the fresh RP one I just deleted was 7 GB, and it contained practically nothing.

(Even though I specified Save Nothing, like you did).

And yes, you're right.

The Pro upgrade over RP I just did went totally smoothly.  Not a single complaint, even though the RP was already in Notification Mode.

This is my experience with the non-techy users I support. Like I did with Windows 7's taskbar change, show them that yes, some things have moved around, here they are, and they're okay. I also upgraded an old Vista laptop from 2007 to Windows 8 and the machine is just practically blazing compared to Vista. Only one piece of hardware didn't work, but thankfully it was the modem, which is never used.

Reply:
No, I'm very "up beat" & saying that people are seeing the negative stuff we have been hearing is not deserving.  People actually do find Windows 8 easy & likable & impressive... as well they, really, should.

As for the Vista to Windows 8 I mentioned...  it was a 32-bit Vista on 64-bit hardware.  The HDD was formatted before the 64-bit Win8 was installed.

Point being all the installs w/ which I have assisted clients have gone smoothly & had no problems, snags or glitches afterwards.  In spite of all the hype we've heard the reaction my clients have had, w/out exception, has been positive.

Cheers,

He did it as a Custom Install, if I recall & I can't explain why it flew.  Must have done it w/ Custom Install (??)  I just remember... him not going from the Vista cus it was x86.  He wanted 64 on 64 w/ the Win8.  Was a while ago & it was installed when I came into the picture. It worked (somehow) & is, still, humming along from all I last heard.

Install TWAIN scanner drivers on Storage Server 2012

I have been attempting to install samsungs clx3180 multifunction centre on a windows storage server 2012

The software works flawlessly with windows 8 despite the fact that windows 8 is not listed as a compatible OS (Samsung's tech support only referred me to the driver's compatibility as advised on their website)

When installing on windows storage server it seems to install without any errors but for some reason the scanner is not accessible from the server.

The printer / scanner is located on the LAN at a fixed IP address and is detected without issue during the installation process. Printer works fine after install completes but the scanner is not available.

Is there a feature of Windows Storage Server 2012 that needs to be enabled / installed to allow use of TWAIN scanner drivers on it?

Sometimes installing the Desktop Experience on Windows Server allows consumer type devices.  I don't know if it will in your case, but it is worth a try.

Otherwise, the old answer of contacting the vendor who wrote the driver.

I know I've made this too hard: converting XML to hashtable

Below is an example of an XML document that I wish to convert to a hashtable, and my attempt to do so.  It works, but it seems far too complicated. Can someone think of a simpler way to do this?

[xml]$ht_xml = @'  <table class="hash_table">  	<tr class="hash_row">  		<td class="hash_key">name</td>  		<td class="hash_value">bob</td>  	</tr>  	<tr class="hash_row">  		<td class="hash_key">address</td>  		<td class="hash_value">here</td>  	</tr>  </table>  '@    $ht = @{}  $ht_xml.SelectNodes('//table/tr/td[@class="hash_key"]') | %{    $key = $_.'#text';    write-host "Searching for key $key"   $_.SelectNodes("//table/tr[td/text()='$key']/td[@class='hash_value']") | %{    write-host "$key = $($_.'#text')"   $ht[ $key ] = $_.'#text'   }   }

WtGreen, I believe your code is great, and pretty small already. I had to write the same kind of function 3 months ago, and I came up with almost the same code.

Life is short, Enjoy it now. Cyreli

Reply:

Thanks, but it seems too complicated. After some more thought, I've come up with this. Shorter and I think easier to understand, and I think it will be faster.

$ht = @{}  $ht_xml.SelectNodes('//table/tr/td[@class="hash_key"]') | %{    $key = $_.'#text';    $nav = $_.CreateNavigator()   $nav.MoveToNext() | out-null # Next item is the sibling hash_value   $ht[ $key ] = $nav.Value  }
I think part of my problem is I'm not very familiar with xpath and I find the predicate notation particularly confusing.

if you can not connect to SQLXPRSS2012, but used to be able to ...

here is what helped me:

     1. open Sql Server Configuration Manager

     2. in SQL Server Services Tab:

for SQL Server (SQLXPRSS2012), go into properties and wiggle Log-on as built-in account combo box values to Local Service or Network Service values ( you will get error message boxes but that is ok );

then go back to Local System; after that restart the service and that did it for me

Bug report 2013, ediscovery

Just an FYI, when you run a ediscovery search, it appears to be reporting times in UTC/GMT rather than local time. This is very problematic. Similar to how transport logs were reported in UTC in previous versions, but eventually changed to local time in subsequent service packs or update rollups.

This is very problematic for purposes of ediscover however...
