Please check the scheduled task if there are any .bat files or vb scripts running which might have a code that when ever the pc restarts delete the files in C drive.
If you don't find any thing we can also perform a clean boot and give a shot.

First the drivers can be installed in compatibility mode. Second what version of win 7 do you have (home, pro, ultimate)?
To install an older driver in win 7 you need to install it in compatibility mode.To install in compatibility mode right click the installer, go to properties, then compatibility. Choose the appropriate OShttp://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/316-compatibility-mode.html?ltr=C

As described on http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/dd815243(v=vs.85).aspx, "The driver for the wireless adapter must implement the wireless LAN device driver model defined by Microsoft for use on Windows 7." The in-box Windows 7 RTM drivers correctly implement this wireless LAN driver model. But I did not install SP1 separately on top of Windows 7 RTM. I installed Windows 7 SP1 from SP1 integrated media and the in-box drivers for my NIC in the SP1 integrated version do not apparently have the wireless LAN driver model so the virtual adapter isn't created.
Just FYI, Virtual Wi-Fi has nothing to do with Virtual PC. It is a SoftAP (Software Access Point) feature new to Windows 7. zigzag3143x, you have no clue what I am talking about but still I have Windows 7 Ultimate.
The Virtual WiFi miniport adapter doesn't get created with the in-box drivers for my NIC in SP1. See this image:

certificate services not starting
hi all,
iam facing a problem with certiicate services.Certificate Services is not starting with error
"A required certificate is not within its validity period when verifying against the current system clock or the timestamp in the signed file"
i know this issue is caused because one of the certificate is expired. This was a certificate issues for wireless eap authentication which expired.
can somebody tell me how to start the certificate services and renew this certificate now
Thanks

Reply:
Hi,
go to Control panel > Administrative tools > Services and ensure that the certificate service is set to automatic not disabled or stopped.
Also you will need to issue a new certificate from the certificate authority and then manually transfer the certificate into the certificate manager and that should work.

Smart Card Reader issues with WIN 7
I have the driver installed for my USB smart card reader and the computer recognizes it under Device Manager. However, when I open programs that use the Smart Card reader, they don't recognize the device. It acts like something within the computer itself is blocking the programs from recognizing the reader.
I am running WIN 7 Pro 32-bit with all the latest drivers and BIOS updates. I have checked with the manufacturer for the latest driver to ensure I have that installed as well, which I do.
I have tried the reader on other machines and everything works fine on those, so I know it's not a problem with the reader.
Any suggestions?
Reply:
Hi,
Firstly, please let us know whether all the programs cannot recognize it or only some programs cannot recognize it.
Then, please try the following steps:
1. Logon your system with Administrator account and Verify that the Smart Card Reader Device and Driver Are Installed Correctly.
2. Run the programs as Administrator and see how it works.
3. Insert a Smart card to check if it can be installed automatically.
4. Please refer to Troubleshooting Smart Card Plug and Play Issues to check whether Smart Card Service is started.
Hope this helps.

Time & Effort spent on maintaining SCOM 2007 R2
Hello fellow forum-dwellers,
I am looking for information on how much time you spend on keeping SCOM 2007 R2 running. To be a bit more specific, what I would like to know:
... Number of clients monitored (if possible sorted by type: Windows-Server, Windows-Client, Linux-Server, Linux-Client, SNMP-Object, ...)
... Management-Packs installed
... Degree of custom MP-ization (Do you have many systems you monitor without an "official"-Management-Pack? A few? None?)
... Time spent per week on maintaining SCOM 2007 R2 itself.
... Any additional information you might consider relevant to assessing the effort you have to spend on keeping SCOM running.
Thanks in advance for any information offered.
Regards,
Bosparan
Reply:
keeping scom running isn't the issue. pretty much automatic, with some basic checks (keeping an eye on the data/database (size)) you can keep any environment running with like 2 hours per week.
Tuning/authoring are the time consuming parts and that really differs per environment. indeed how many mp's but more importantly how often a new mp needs to be imported or developed.
I'm a fulltime SCOM admin together with a colleague for a multi tennant environment holding over 3k windows servers running a lot of mp's (all major ms ones, 3x hardware and citrix and quite some custom developed ones). We spend about half our time telling our customers (the admins of the monitored servers) what alerts actually mean as they often have no clue what is wrong.

SharePoint 2010 page deleted content from pressing save?
A site owner was deleting a hyperlink text on a page using the front end. Once he completed deleting the text he simply pressed save and close. However, thismanaged to delete all the content on the entire page; web parts and all. When i asked him what happened this was his reply:
"Regarding what I did…I have no idea. I was trying to delete one of those titles, which worked fine. But when I clicked save and close the screen went completely blank."
I reverted back to an old version and was able to restore the old template but I would like to know if anyone else has had this issue and if you know how to prevent it from happening again in the future.
Thanks!

Need info about about Document management and added functionality with Office 2007/2010
Hello,
We are implementing SP 2010 as a document management and we need to add functionality, especially in Word and Excel and learn about Office 2007/2010 interoperability.
For example, content type documents with macros, advanced content types, how to to prompt for a specific name to save and so forth.
Everything that can be done using SP2010 and Office 2007/2010, using either macros or VSTO, for the purpose of providing a more user friendly environment.
Please advice on any books or sources.
Thank you

Hi,
It seems that you want to add a custom Word template with marcro to SharePoint Document Library. SharePoint 2010 is OK launching your custom Word template from SharePoint. You can upload the template to a SharePoint Foundation document library, and then go to content type settings -> Advanced Settings -> specify the template for this content type.

Hi,
You can specify the functionality in the Word/Excel template, and then upload the Word/Excel template to a custom Document type. Normally, you can click the Save button in Word/Excel to save the Word/Excel document.
Is this what you want to do?

Thanks (again) Sally,
Let me rephrase the question:
I would like sources for interoperability between VSTO and Sharepoint, between Word macros and Sharepoint.
For example, how to make a button in Word that will make a table inside the Word document with the last 5 rows of a Sharepoint list. How to make a button that will make a new list Item, how to make a button that will start a workflow, or updates a field in list item. And how VSTO Applications are (somehow) stored in Sharepoint

I have found the script gave inaccurate result in our environment. So I updated the script as below.
I also like to discuss the difference between backup_size and file_size is. In my case backup_size gives better result.

Windows 7 search is not finding files reliably on network shares, why?
Hi,
I have a strange problem using Windows 7 when searching files on a network share that I access using a unc-path. Let's say I have a path called \\myserver\xyz, which I enter in explorer. This folder contains many subfolders and files, let's assume there is a file called example.avi somewhere below, i.e. \\myserver\somepath\somedir\example.avi.Now comes the strange part: if I type in expolrer search:
*example* -> it will show no results, even after minutes, it simply stops searching.
When I alter the search term, say *exam*, the file is finally found
When then I search again for *example*, the file will also be found. Why will explorer's search engine not find the file right after the first time I enter a wildcard-expression? Searching used to be very accurate under Windows XP, but it has become totally unreliable and producing more or less random results in Win7.
Can anybody please explain the strange behaviour described above, and what to do about it?
Reply:
Hi,
Please refer to Windows Indexing Features and note that "Windows 7 does not support indexing network shares locally, nor does it support the UNC Add-in for Microsoft Networks that shipped in earlier versions of Windows Search or Windows Desktop Search. In order for content to be searchable, it must reside in a local index or on a machine with a recognizable index."
You can try to change the setting to "Always search file names and contents (this might take several minutes)" under Folder Options -> Search tab and see how it works.
Hope this helps.

I'm having the same problem.
It doesn't make sense to use "Always search file names and contents (this might take several minutes)" since we are simply searching for file names, not contents. All this option managed to do was make the search take much, much longer and return a bunch of results i'm not looking for because they had what I was looking for in the contents - but i was looking for it in the name of the file, not the contents. Now I have the opposite problem, instead of not enough results, I have to wade through a bunch of useless results to find what I was looking for. In most cases, our files are such that the name of the file is in the contents, so in those cases this appears to work. If that is not the case though, it still will not get me the file I'm looking for. And, of course, it typically can only search contents of Microsoft file types (and a few others), so it doesn't help with all file types.
I have found that i definitely do not get reliable results when there's certain characters in my search string, such as a "-", however I have also had a few times where common letter strings did not find the proper files - as in the example posted above. Also, I've found that it usually does not have this problem finding folders with the search string in the name, just individual files - and it seems to not care what kind of file.
Windows XP search did not have these issues. This really should be fixed - I work in an environment with large servers with many files and I need to be able to search them. I have one of the "new" computers at work with Windows 7. The users who still have XP do not have this issue. The "latest and greatest" product should not have reduced or less reliable functionality.

Give FileSearchEX a try. It does what you want and offers a more classical search experience.

Reply:
Hi Erik78 and IMADK,
Based on my research, the issue can occur if locations on remote computers are not indexed. If the locations are not indexed, then Windows 7 falls back to a slower GREP search instead of Windows Search 4.0.
For more detailed information, please refer to Windows Search 4.0 Administrator's Guide.
Also, please refer to Windows Search 4.0 Troubleshooting Guide and note: In order to query a remote machine, the folder you want to search must be shared even if you access it as admin. Sharing is a prerequisite for querying. First, share the folder to yourself, and then you can query it remotely.
Meanwhile, I suggest to try the following steps:
1. If the shared files are on a Windows Server 2003, please install Windows Search 4.0 and install File Server role.
2. If the shared files are on a Windows Server 2008, please install Windows Search 4.0 and install File Service role with Windows Search Service.
3. Include all the shared locations into the index list and rebuild index.
For detailed steps, please refer to How to Install Windows Search and Enable the File Services Role.
Hope this helps.

Users unable to change OOF settings
We have a hosted exchange environment that we connect to via RPC of HTTPS. We have been getting an influx of issues regarding Out of Office being unable to set and unset with the error
"Your Out of Office settings cannot be displayed, because the server is currently unavailable. Try again later"
The server is available as they can send/receive mail no problem. Also they can alter the settings in OWA without issue. The weird thing is this seems to be completely sporadic. I have tried the suggested hotfix here:

with no luck. I took a look at the autodiscover log and it connects successfully. Any assistance on this is much appreciated.

We dont host Exchange ourselves so the host will have to look into it. However I believe they are running 2003, I will have to verify that though.
Flushing and re-registering DNS had no effect. As far as the proxy setting in IE, are you referring to the client workstation or the server? We do use a proxy to route traffic.

I wanted to update on some new information that may or may not help in understating what is going on.
- The host is on Exchange 2007
- A few months back they made an effort to move to Exchange 2010 but found issues and reverted back to Exchange 2007
- The host updated certs on the load balancer but did not add intermediate certs which caused outages. They have since installed the intermediate certs and it is now supposedly working as normal.
- Everything works fine in OWA
I plan on visiting some workstations and collecting data on things such as Rules, .Net version, .ost state, OS and version, etc.

loop collection until each item is complete

i want to loop the collection until all files have been grabbed (they are being generated as i loop)
how would you handle this?
im considering a custom object
$obj = "" | select ip, file,complete
get an array of these, set complete to 0
while ( ($collection | measure-object -property complete -sum).sum -lt $collection.count)
when a successfully get that file set its complete to 1...

The looping can be handled a few different ways. What is it you are trying to do specifically?# handling of the complete property while maintaining hashtables

Internet Explorer 9 Lost My Favorites
What are you guys doing? I already had IE 9 installed. You guys installed it over my repated choices of not installing a few weeks ago. Last night you reninstalled it (a new version?). The first time you auto-installed it for me I had favorites OK. This time no favorites (not mine, anyway). There are numerous issues with missing favorites after IE9 install in various forums around the Net. You'd think you would have found an answer and patched into this new version. So which of the 10 or 15 different fixes on the web is the right one? I don't have time to try them all.

Unable to initialize Windows Server Backup on Server 2008 R2
I've been searching around for a bit now trying to find a resolution to my error, but so far have turned up empty-handed.
Operating System: Windows Server 2008 R2
Goal:
To get Windows Server Backup working so I can commence backups of my server.
Problem 1:
When attempting to start Windows Server Backup through the Server Manager interface, I'm greeted with the following error:
A fatal error occured during a Windows Server Backup snap-in (wbadmin.msc) operation.
Error Details: Server Execution Failed
Close wbadmin.msc and then restart it.
Result 1: Looking into wbadmin gets me to problem #2...
Problem 2:
Apparently, Block Level Backup Engine Server was not active. When trying to start the Block Level Backup Engine Service, I get this:
Windows could not start the Block Level Backup Engine Server service on Local Computer.
Error 0x800700b7: cannot create a file where that file already exists.
Result 2: No idea where to go from here.
Problem 3:
Opening up the cmd prompt, as an administrator, I type in the following to see what I get: net start wbengine
And get...
The Block Level Backup Engine Service service is starting.
The Block Level Backup Engine Service service could not be started.
A system error has occurred.
System error 183 has occurred.
Cannot create a file when that file already exists.
Result 3: No idea how to get this started.
So, I'm left thinking the following: Block Level Backup Engine Server needs to be running in order for wbadmin to function correctly. However, considering that I cannot start WBEngine, that is where I currently am.
If anyone has an idea or could tell me what I need to do to get this functioning, it would be greatly appreciated. I can give more information if necessary.
Thank you.

To investigate the Windows Backup Service startup failure, we need to look at the logs generated at %windir%\logs\windowsserverbackup. Please mail me the logs to abhim-nospam@microsoft.com (remove -nospam to get the actual id).
To guess at the possible cause, the issue looks similar to the one discussed in the thread here http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/windowsbackup/thread/1e5e152f-4bb7-427d-bd77-1525596c1864 Please check if SYSTEM has permissions on the directory "%systemdrive%\system volume information" and its sub folders. Were the permissions on "%systemdrive%\system volume information" changed in any way?
Thanks,
Abhinav

Do you implement the methods that has been given in the following thread:
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/windowsbackup/thread/1e5e152f-4bb7-427d-bd77-1525596c1864
Have you tried to reinstall the Windows Server Backup feature to test the situation?
Thanks
