Which app do you prefer to bypass Modern UI? Here are my experience, how about you?

Hello, everyone here!

I started a thread here few days ago to seek help on choosing app. Now I have experienced them all.

I know many people suffered the problem -- don't like Modern UI and find ways to solve this problem. I think lots of people have found their ways.

And I am also sure many people are using 3rd party apps to bypass it.

So, which app do you think is the one suit you? Here are my opinions:

1. Classic Shell. It is really powerful and has many functions. What's more, it has many Start menu of different versions of Windows,

thus users can choose whatever they like.

2. Wentutu Start Menu. It is a brand new app. It doesn't have the numerous functions but it is really simple to operate.

The interface is brief either.

3. Start8. It is brief as Wentutu Start Menu as well. It enables quick access and searching of installed applications.

4. ViStart. Nothing different with Start8 (personal opinion).

So, sum up, if you want try more and you are a very classic man even want back to Windows 98's Start menu, then you can use Classic Shell.

If you are lazy (like me, the simpler, the better), then you may try the last three apps.

By the way, what I am using now is Wentutu Start Menu (http://www.wentutu.com/soft/startmenusetup-en.exe), though it is a new app, it has Wentutu Speed RamDisk.

This is what it attracts me. New enough everything!

Serious help, multiple system errors within a day, can't find results for my problem, advice and help needed please!!

For the last two weeks i have been very lazy and each night i've hibernated my laptop instead of shutting down! I shut my computer down last night, and my problems have all occured this morning!! All i have been doing in the last two weeks on my laptop is general web browsing on fb, battlelog, youtube etc, but NO downloads, not a single download or entering any dodgey sites! I've also used CCleaner to clean my PC up aswell, it fixed regestry issues, deleted temp files etc, its a program i trust and have used for years!

I have two accounts on my laptop, my account with administrator powers and a guest account (only i used the PC though). I first logged onto my general account, everything seemed normal, icon appearing etc! However whenever i try to open any programs, off desktop, through target route etc the program will not open at all! the process will show up on taskmanager but will not appear on my screen-web browsers are my beautiful example- however IE9 will open but will instantly freeze and crash, if a program will open then it will shortly after stop responding! Folders/explorer also stops responding show had to be terminated in explorer-only option, however i now have to restart explorer by the command ''%windir%\explorer.exe'' and when i try to open a folder/ my computer ect i know get two error messages ''There is not enough free memory to run this program. Exit one or more programs, and then try again'' and ''the procedure call failed and did not run'' After these errors, taskmanager starts to freeze at times, but i am now useless and cannot do anything! The only fixes for the ''the procedure call failed and did not run'' error i have researched does not work!!

I managed to run full virus scans with avast! and windows security essentials by installers off external drives! avast! found 8 threats, java appdata, windows live contained one somehow also!!

after a restart after lunch, i got a black screen after log on and wallpaper, icons, taskbar, etc, would not appear but i could still bring up task manager by ctrl+shift+esc, folders i brough up would freeze if i tried to open files/apps! i cannot run cmd/ other apps by ''run as administrator'' because the will not appear. i can open cmd normally however if i try to run sfc scans and repairs, cmd says i cannot do the process because i am not an adminstrator when i clearly am!

I have more luck accessing my guest acc at the moment! explorer will launch correctly but i still cannot open files and because cmd is locked out, i can't launch apps by ''run as administrator'' and command prompt commands will not respond- i am still unable to do anything!!

maybe 1 in 5 times i can get my normal account to load with taskbar, icons etc but even with that i am powerless!!

I have got a windows 7 professional 64 bit disk which i have also used on start up to fix start up errors etc, i've used them allto see if it would help...but no! all system restore points have gone, and i cannot restore by an image because my PC will no longer accept external drives and partitons and files larger than 64gb!!

control panel options will also not respond/work!! the only working programs are microsoft office, avast!, and sometimes visual studio 2010! notepad is no option avaliable to solve my program.

PLEASE can someone with a little more knowledge help me, i've done what i can but i need some serious help because i think its my registry which i f*cked!!

You could try setting your computer back to factory specs. But that would wipe out anything you have put on the computer since you've owned it. What brand and model of computer do you have? There should be a partition on the hard drive to access during the boot sequence.

Yeah i am hoping to keep all my documents etc, especially as the laptop isn't recognising external drives larger than 64gb and explorer is continuously crashing, so i cant transfer them easily! My laptop is an Acer Aspire 5732ZG, CPU-Intel pentium processor T4400 and GPU- ATi Mobilility Radeon HD 4570 (512mb) <-- in case this may also help! There is a system reserved (E:) partition 70.1MB free of 101MB!!

Hi,

Try to disable UAC to check if you can run as administrator. Go to Start -> type "UAC" into the search field, and click the "User Account Control Settings" link. Move the slider to the "Never Notify" position.

In addtion, Do you comupter can start normally in Safe mode and clean boot?

You might be able to run a system restore instead. Basically "system restore" is a built in program in windows that rolls your computer settings back to a previous date without having to re install windows. Here is a link that provides details on how to run it.

You can use the Ultimate Boot CD to get your files off. Then reformat the computer, install everything fresh, then take an image of the hard drive and save that to an external drive. It is time consuming but it will work. If this problem happens again you can restore the image.

Thanks for everyone's help and advice got my PC working now finally!! Squall_7 took ages for the program to run because i had no restore points and no applications could run at all!! to keep it simple and basic my hours of toiling have worked and when i was able to use the deep clean it found a lot of issues, especially with deep registry clean!! Thanks for the link, solved extra issues i couldn't normally solve!!

Configure different domains using 2010

Dear All,

I have a client how asking to configure 3 different domains on the same exchange 2010. my question is what is the best method to do this.

- He needs some users to send and receive emails from all domains.

- all the users should be able to use OWA to all domains.

- what certificate should i buy. "one certificate or 3 different certificate".

Are you referring to 3 AD domains or just 3 internet domains?

Is it a standalone server for hosting the 3 domains?

if it's a standalone, you can either just add the 3 domains as accepted domains (and use corresponding MX records pointing to your server) and manage the users and addresses with OUs and recipient policies based on company name or some other field.

The second option will be to install server in Hosted Mode which means you'll have the ability to manage 3 different customers, you can read about this feature here: http://memphistech.net/?p=106

PLease notice that hosted mode requires a deep understanding of powershell and command line (there is no EMC), and also there has been some changes with SP2 to hosted mode...

Because there is something in SharePoint called "Content Deployment" used when you want to move content and web part from site to site.

And there is a "move" in Site content and structure which moves items from list to list in same site collection.

And you are saying "different content page" whats in it exactly? web parts, or content in content editor web part?

One easy idea in my mind, is to save content in a list and both web parts reads the content from this same list, may be under some conditions you can add if needed.

In asp.net style i have some method to transfer data like :

1) Session object

2)Application object(but this must be used for global objects and this is not best way)

3)Page.Cahce object (but i don't know cache intended to store custom entity objects or may be cache has different purpose in asp.net, )

4)Set parameters in URL

5)Cookies (but this is bad way in that case, if i just want transfer data between one page and another)

May be sharepoint has sharepoint-specific way to transfer data?

One location, and 2 different web parts reading from this list.

Looks like i understand now, we need use SPListItem.Item property and save our object in field, and after getting field by indexer we need convert object type using as keyword or () operator.

Multiple versions of PS V3 RC

I've already posted this in the Scripting Guys forum, so forgive me if you've already read it.

There are multiple versions of KB2506143. Just because you have this KB installed does not mean you are on the latest version of V3. I have just upgraded my V.3 to build 6.2.8370.0, which is higher than my previous build. (I can't remember what is was).

I had to uninstall the old update, reboot the computer, and then re-install the latest version of KB2506143, reboot the computer again.

This version has improved intellisense, particularly variable completion. Type in $, and a whole list of variables drop down. I like it!

Couldn't Sign in to Management Portal

When I tried to sign in to the management portal, I got thrown this error message. Our organization is not using Office 365. Tried different browsers and another admin account (under different email domain) but still no luck. Anyone's experiencing this as well?

According the Windows Azure Service Dashboard there is a Worldwide performance degradation issue with the Windows Azure Management Portal and Windows Azure Product Website - as we speak (25/08/2012 11:23 UTC). I was able to sign-in in both Management Portals without any issues. I suggest you keep trying...

I can't sign in either. I could yesterday when others seemed to have problems. I checked the dashboard and everything seems fine.

I'm getting the screen telling me: "We were unable to find any 'Active' subscriptions associated with your account."

This issue only seems to be relevant to the manage.windowsazure.com portal not the windows.azure.com portal. (So only the new portal).

I get it that this new portal is not yet a production version, but why does the dashboard tell me that everything is fine? Is there something wrong with my account instead?

EDIT: Problem seems to have fixed it self for me, as was expected. But I'm still not clear on why the dashboard would say everything is fine when at least for me and some of my colleagues it was not fine.

Persistend binding tape drives in a cluster

Hi there

I've got this 2 node Windows 2003 Filecluster that is put on tape every night with IBM TSM Backup Archive Client.

Due to the size of the data that has to be put on tape, we configured the TSM BA Client in a cluster resource for LAN-Free backup.

We have an IBM SAN with 4gb fibrechannel.

Both Nodes have Qlogic dual port HBA's

We also have zoned/mapped the fc-tapedrives to both nodes using separate qlogic ports, so disk and tape have there own port and glascable. Both cluster nodes see the drives and have the correct drivers installed.

IBM recommendation is to Persistent map these tapedrives to the same (paths). So with a Qlogic tool called SANSurfer I logged to on to both nodes and made the bindings identical. When I commit these persistent tapedrive settings I get an Warning that my LUN Mappings will also be changed. This I find strange as I configure the HBA-port for tape not the one where the LUNS are connected on.

So What will happen to my Windows cluster LUNS when I force these persistent bindings to be identical on both hba. ?

SharePoint site migration Steps while changing the site template

I have been trying to migrate an existing site collection to a new site collection only differing in the site template. As it turns out, this cannot be done just by backing up a site as a file and then importing it into a new site collection because the template differs. So i need to recreate all these sites with a different site template(the original one wasn't made by me). ie8 zoom in breaks layout

Hi,

I have receantly approach some problem with zoom in ie8. When I change zoom to 95% my layout breaks and last column go down. Sample of code where you can reproduce this issue.

One of solution is talking that to solve this problem should add some value to width to wrapper (for example 2px). After this action layout is good to 45% of zoom in, and when we approach 45% again breaks.

I wondering about to change fix values to percentage but the border is always fix value and will be problem with set the proper percetange value.

I want ask what is the best solution. How approach I should apply for this issue for achieve the best result.

Remote management

I am remotely managing a server core (2008 R2) from a full installation 2008 server, through MMC. When trying to open "GPO", error occurred:"You may not have appropriate right". In the lower pane, it shows error message as below depends on from which computer I try to access:

1. "Network name cannot be found"

2. "The request is not supported"

3. "Netwerk path was not found"

Here are some senarios:

1. I have no problem in opening some other remote targets in MMC, such as "Windows Firewall", "TPM Management", "Computer Management" etc.

2. I have no problem in opening "GPO" on Domain Controllers from the same source computer.

3. In our environment, Windows firewall is totally shut off by policy.

4. Not only server core, I cannot remotely open "GPO" residing on any other domain member servers.

Thank you if someone can provide a clue.

Is your server core a domain controller ? if is not you will not be able to open GPO. Promote the server as an additional domain controller -if needed- then you will be able to open GPO from a remote console.

Problem solved. It's due to reason of server hardening.

Here is the cause and solution:

MSS: (AutoShareServer) Enable Administrative Shares

reg add "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters"
/v AutoshareServer
/t REG_DWORD
/d 0

Problem solved by deleting the registry value: "AutoshareServer".
