Bizarre display resolution/icons reset on reboot...
So far enjoying the W7 experience. But one thing has me flummoxed. Occasionally (and for no obvious reason), my screen resolution will completely reset to the the default sizes (1024 x 768) and the icons on my desktop with group together in a disorganized bunch on the left side of the screen upon reboot.
I have NO IDEA what is causing this and it is a bit of a pain as I have my icons neatly arranged by groups on my desktop. Any ideas as to the cause?
Reply:
A media pc ignores my chosen display settings on reboot and defaults to an incorrect ratio and pixel count.
This symptom has been present since installation and happens with both the ms-supplied video driver and ati's beta.

A new version of Omega.SDSClient is available
We just released a new version of Omega.SDSClient. In this new version we have focused mainly on improving the user interface. The new interface that we have opted for is familiar "Tree View" interface where your authorities and containers are displayed in a tree view format on the left hand side while the entities in a container are displayed on the right hand side as tabbed item. To view contents of a container, just click on that container.
Apart from that we have included some new functionality based on the feedback we have received from the community.
Since we can't delete the authorities just yet, we have included a feature where in you can hide the authorities you don't want to see. A reference of these hidden authorities is stored in Silverlight isolated storage on your computer so that the information is persisted across multiple sessions. You can unhide the authorities at any point of time. Similarly you can hide and unhide the containers as well.
Another feature we have included is bulk container delete. You can select one or more containers and the delete them.
We have included context menus to perform some authority & container operations. Since Silverlight does not allow to use Right Mouse button for context menus (I just can't think of any reason behind this), the access key for context menus is "SHIFT + LEFT MOUSE BUTTON". Not very intuitive, I know :). Let's just hope, things change in SL 3.0.
We have also included a user guide to help you navigate through the application (It's about time, I guess). You can download a PDF version of the same by visiting our website (http://omega.cerebrata.com/default.aspx?r=MSDN03) and then choosing Omega.SDSClient User Guide from the Quick Links on the left hand side or by clicking this link (http://omega.cerebrata.com/Docs/Omega.SDSClient.UserGuide.pdf).
Let me know what you think about the new interface. If there are any features that you would like to see which will help your job easier, please feel free to share. Here are some of the things that are in our pipeline (not necessarily in the order of priority):
1. Querying capability
2. Ability to display more that 500 entities in a container.
3. Some kind of debug window - This is an interesting thing. Currently we consume the raw data sent by SDS and display in a graphical format. What we also plan to do is provide this raw output as well somewhere in Omega.SDSClient (like JavaScript debugger in FireFox). I believe that would help the users debug the data.
4. Refresh capability - If you are working on multiple tools to create authorities & containers, then we want to provide a refresh capability so that you can get the latest content from SDS without logging out of this tool.
5. Alternate view for entities - probably display them in a data grid format to make efficient use of screen space.
That's it for now. URL is: http://omega.cerebrata.com/default.aspx?r=MSDN03. Give it a shot and let us know what you think.
Thanks

Hi,
At the end part of the installation device drivers will be installed. The issue occurs if your hardware is not compatible. To check which device cause this issue, you may open the folder C:\Windows\inf\, launch the file setupapi.dev to check which driver did the installation fail on.

I have the same problem and language with my MSI K8N (MS-7025) mobo and none of the suggestions I've seen and tried has worked. A few hours agoI located some very recent drivers on the MSI site for my board but I haven't had a chance to try them yet. The ethernet drivers being used by this Vista machine are MS drivers from 2006 and they have worked fine since I did a clean install about a year ago.

I found the solution to get my PC back in XP and Vista.
I run a dualboot with XP and Vista - when I installed Windows 7 as a 3 OS the PC crashed with no Ethernet and so on.. on all systems, it didn't solved the problem with reset bios or anything else - I have to reinstall bios from a diskette and then my PC worked again, then I tried to look at my Windows 7, it has now founded the ethernet but crashed after few sekonds - conklusion - UNTIL NOW.. NOW SOLUTION ON WINDOWS 7 WITH A NVIDIA 680I CHIPSET, we just have to wait until a new release is coming to us!!

There is a problem which affects fresh installs of x64 XP when the nVidia firewall is in an indeterminate state and network access is blocked for no apparent reason. The solution is to install and then uninstall the nVidia Network Access Manager. It is possible that this is now affecting Windows 7.

That would assume we have another NIC to actually be able to connect to the internet in the first place. (like I do) However that didn't work for me. I installed all the windows updates and the built in ethernet still doesn't work.

I installed Windows 7 on my old PC that has an nforce 2 ultra motherboard and had the same problem with no internet connection, after a bit off a google I found some nForce remixed drivers which did support nForce 1-3, I ran the installer and just chose the network and bus drivers on the selector and they installed ok. Did hang for a while but got there in the end, rebooted and then used the windows update to get the rest of the updates. http://nf2.stuff.googlepages.com/ hope this helps.
Sorry probably should have said I downloaded the NF123LR1.0 drivers at the top of the page.

Motorola Wireless Adapter not connecting/locks up..
I'm at my wits end on this one. I have the beta installed on my testing machine, which is an old single core AMD Athlon XP-based PC. I've got just about everything working top-notch, including an old Sapphire Radeon 9250 AGP card that has no actual Vista drivers!
The only snag is my 802.11a/b/g adapter card, a Motorola WPCI810G (either uses a Broadcom 4306 or 4320 chipset). When I use the drivers that came with the card, or any meant for the Broadcom 4306, the machine will immediately lock up AND when rebooted will not boot except to Safe Mode. When I use the alternate drivers for the 4320 chipset, the card refuses to connect to the wireless network saying there's an error with the router.
This is a real pain because without access to my wifi network, I can't use Windows Update to keep up with the beta updates. It's also a pain having to use my main computer to burn any drivers/software I want to use/test onto a DVD just so I can get them to the test rig.

Mr. Database and Mrs. Application – The Wedding Vows
Mr. Database To Mrs. Application
- I do solemnly swear to love your validation. I will fully trust that you're passing me the correct datatypes and the lengths will never cause overflow exceptions.
- I do solemnly swear to honor your security. I will fully trust that you have encrypted all accounts in your config files so that my server is never vulnerable or compromised.
- I do solemnly swear to cherish your procedural optimizations that only an OOP environment can provide.
Mrs. Application To Mr. Database
- I do solemnly swear to love your set based environment. I will keep my procedural and conditional statements to myself so that you can focus on providing me with optimal results.
- I do solemnly swear to honor your engine. I will study your execution plans and adjust my querys accordingly until all indexes are being applied, table and index scans are converted to seeks, and your estimated row counts are accurate.
- I do solemnly swear to cherish your design by naturalizing my databases, properly choosing primary keys, create referential integrity, and forever search for new methods to avoid cursors.
Seriously folks. There is yet to be published a good critical thinking reference for the separation of programming roles. Yes you n-tier developers, you have defined layers but even with this strict design, much is left to be decided as to where the optimal adjustments should be made. Example 1: SQL Server can sort but carries a significant overhead to do so. OOP can also sort but will typically sort a smaller and more refined resultset. So should all sorting be done in OOP for performance reasons? Yes, yes, and almost always yes. Example 2: OOP can load and query large datatables in memory but SQL Server employs a query optimizer. Does that mean all querys should be run in the database engine and only return refined datasets? Yes, yes, and almost always yes.
While I could ramble on without endeavor, I would be interested to hear others thoughts on specifically 'where' the often applied methodologies might better benefit the overall designs through either relocation or redesign.

Hi,
Please confirm this information with me:
1. Which edition of Microsoft Office are you using?
2. Which edition of SQL Server are you using?
Generally, if the sheet in the Excel haven't name, SQL will name the table like this.
Thanks.

Hi,
From long time ago, '$'is added in the Excel as part of the sheet name. I can't find why. I suppose this feature is used to the separate the sheet name and column name.

If you could temporarily install a separate video card that will work with Vista, and connect your monitor to it for the installation, I believe you could make it past your sticking point (because your install DVD will have a driver that will work with the video card) to get up and running. Then, with Win7 running, you could install the driver for your on-board Hidef Grafixs, uninstall the driver for your temporary video card, shut down, remove the temporary card and re-connect your monitor to the motherboard video output, and boot into success with Win7.
Could you give that a try?

having issues changing networks
I go from my home wireless network to my work wired network on my laptop (sony fw190) and once i get a DHCP address at my work site it fails to be able to actually rout any packets off the system.
it gets a real IP from the DHCP server but i can't ping anything, not even the DHCP server...
If i restart the system it works perfectly. And once i go home to my wireless it switches over to that seamlessly.
It is as if the system does not know it needs to start using the wired connection.
Any help?

Broadband Card, Sprint minipc card, Dell Software
Software for Sprint internal broadband card will not work if there is any type of server software installed. There are several MS applications that install by default, some type of server software, ie. msql server. Upon reboot, Connection software program will not start and gives error codes. I uninstall any server software and everything works perfectly. Some windows live software like photogallery, installs msql by default and not an option to not install it.
Am posting on Dells site also, could be in their software, or server software is not compatible with broadband cards.

HP Officejet Pro L7555 installation
Just a comment about my installation experience.
I purchased a HP Officejet Pro L7555 (Printer/Copier/Scanner/Fax). Having installed other HP printers on several occasions I knew that I should not plug the USB cable into my PC until the installation CD directed me to. I ran the intall CD and it told me "not compatible with this OS" so I backed out. At this point I thought I was in trouble. I decided to run the Win7beta "Add a Printer" wizard and the first choice said:
Add a local printer. Use this option only if you don't have a USB printer. (Windows automatically installs USB printers when you plug them in).
Soooooo I plugged the USB cable into my PC and in less than 15 seconds it said, "device installed correctly". I don't know how it did it so fast but everything works correctly and I can printer/copy/scan/fax. I'm impressed.
