I've installed Forte Agent newsreader, and it has the same fuzzy text. The only program I've installed so far that doesn't have the fuzzy text is Firefox 3.0.5.

I have my DPI set high on my Vista install, as well, and didn't have to check anything to get my applications to work properly there.
Thanks for responding and trying to help.

Event log nags about HAL and suggests bios update. Gigabyte made a S3 resume fix to F9 bios but i suspect that the problem was not dealt thoroughly. Hope they read these forums too...
Latest ATI W7 beta drivers in use.
Other than resuming the system works almost perfectly.
Edit: Oh, i once had Vista and XP in dualboot and sleep (cant remember if it was called that in XP) worked flawlessly in XP side.

Bugginess in the desktop/UI
* Win 7 beta has an annoying tendency to switch screen resolutions to 1024x768 during installs. I installed some .NET libraries as well as an app that uses it, and when the security box came up, asking if I wanted to run the installer, it switched the whole desktop to 1024x768 and would not restore it. I had to manually reset it to its natural resolution, 1680x1050.
* Also during app installs, my background image would get blown off and the background set to black. When I brought up Customization, the old desktop image was still there but I had to select it again, and it would reappear. This happened with older apps, ranging from the Freelancer game to Shell Uploader, a .NET 1.1-based applet that lets you right click and upload images to ImageShack and other hosting sites.
Running a home built FrankenPC with:
* Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L motherboard
* Intel Q6600 processor
* 4GB RAM
* nVidia 8800GT, 512MB RAM, latest drivers
* Viewsonic VX2235 22" monitor, latest Viewsonic drivers
Can provide any more details as needed.
Need help with strange log in issue.
Every time I log in to Windows 7, regardless of which account or if it is a new account, the "System Properties" window pops up and is on the "Computer Name" tab. Every single time I log in.
I've used the Sysinternals autorun tool to see if I could spot anything that might cause it but nothing caught my attention. This even happens when I boot into safe mode.
I don't exactly recall if this problem started before or after I ran the "Windows Easy Transfer" but I'm willing to bet that the problem started after I ran that tool.
On my main machine I upgraded to Windows 7 x64 from Vista Ultimate x64 and haven't ran into this problem.
It isn't a dire problem but quite annoying.
Any thoughts?

That having been said, it's going to take a lot of troubleshooting to find what's causing this. I'd suspect a corruption in the startup entry for the control panel (can't recall where that is right now).

Oops, Carbonite Service (AVG) slowing down HDD performance in W7...
Hi,
I noticed that every time I tried to open a folder in Windows Explorer, it took as many as 5 or 10 seconds to open (quite annoying). I tried turning off various services and after trial and error, found that it was my Carbonite (AVG) automatic backup causing the problem. So, I turned it off using MSCONFIG and now no problems.
I will just do a manual Carbonite Backup once a day and leave the service off otherwise. There was no problem with this under Vista so I can only assume that Carbonite needs some work to function properly with W7.

Seriously, it's more likely Windows 7, because everyday I have to fix problems for a system that was working 24 hours before ... today Outlook freezes, yesterday it was IE8 using the wrong time frame, the day before the network printers stopped working.
Do not always blame the application, this operating system is really pre- beta

I have almost the same exact problem, Installing with windows vista64 sp1 on 2 x 320 gig in raid 0 and putting windows 7 on a 320 gig jbod. Raid drivers load fine and windows installs then when it starts for the first time it just stays and completing installation. I left it there for 3 hours and never went any further. I think i will wait for a posted fix for this as i see a few other threads about it with no fix as of yet.
Beta tested xp and vista and am used to problems but that usually only happened after install.

Have you tried burnign at a slower speed?
0xc0000098 most likely will show you the following error:
Info :Windows failed to load because a required file is missing or corrupt.
Which could mean a bad burn.
Or is it possible to try using another burner?

Also certain technologies are apparently capped at certain levels. Thats a 5400rpm SATA drive. I'm Running Win 7 on an 80GB 7200rpm SATA drive and i get a 3.0 I'm not planning on installing it on my main SATA II drive, as when the Beta Ends, if need be i can just remove the 80GB drive and thats me back to XP as it was before i started testing Win7.
Apparently Disabling the write cache can make a difference in terms of performance, but tbh i never had Vista installed, and im quite happy with how my hardware runs, whatever its reported as.
Have a read through of this thread here its discussed in quite a bit of detail.

Desired Features In Windows 7.0
My current OS (operating system) is Windows Vista Ultimate-64 (Version 6.0, Service Pack 1). I am generally happy with this OS and consider it to be a major upgrade over Windows 2000/XP. I wish to comment on what I would expect from Windows Version 7.0 (as opposed to Windows Version 6.1).
In my opinion, the biggest shortcoming in Windows 6.0 is the difficulty in diagnosing computer performance problems. Computers and their operating systems are now so complex that even Vista support professionals have difficulty determining if a problem, such as slow boot time, sluggish internet performance, or system instability, is due to a hardware, BIOS, operating system, or application problem. In evaluating the performance of the operating system, they have difficulty determining if a problem might relate to invalid registry keys, device drivers, or corrupted system files. This is not intended to imply any criticism of Microsoft support personnel. The ones I have dealt with have been outstanding individuals.
In cases where a Microsoft support person may be unable to positively determine the source of the problem the customer is, in effect, thrown to the wolves. For example, there are numerous software companies selling registry cleaning and repair software, but it is questionable whether their claims are valid or if they are selling snake oil. There are a few companies that sell very expensive "low-level" diagnostic software to test hardware but, apart from advertising, there is little information available to help someone determine the actual capabilities and limitations of these products.
I would like to see more powerful and useful diagnostic utilities built into Windows 7.0. It seems to me that a computer's operating system is the logical place to contain all of the diagnostic tools required to determine if a computer performance problem is hardware or software related and to determine the origin and nature of any problem. A customer should not have to purchase expensive software having questionable or unknown value to troubleshoot elusive computer problems. By the way, the msinfo.exe utility in System Information needs to be fixed. Every file I attempted to send to a support professional was "corrupted".
Most people are doing relatively simple things with their computers, such as surfing the Internet, sending email, maintaining personal records, storing photos, and doing homework. A basic functioning computer is more important to them than a plethora of glizy features. Most people cannot afford to spend hundreds or thousands of dollars to have someone troubleshoot a computer problem that probably has a simple but elusive, cause. They should also not have to spend hundreds or thousands of dollars purchasing software from unknown companies that may not be helpful or that may create even worse problems.
Secondly, I would prefer that Microsoft did not advertise and include other utilities with Windows that are not very useful. For example the defrag utility that shipped with Vista did not provide any Windows based user control or any graphical progess display. The DVD Maker utility does not permit you to copy .iso and some other file types. And the Restore Point Utility that shipped with Vista only allows you to image your entire system, as opposed to your boot drive. Some of these utilities may have been upgraded since I last used them, but the point is I would prefer that Microsoft either included utilities comparable in functionality to third party utilities or simply stated that "we provide hooks for certain types of utilities but you should purchase them from a third party".
I was advised by a Microsoft employee to post these types of remarks on one of these forums. My remarks are primarily intended for the Microsft Windows policy makers and developers, however.
Sincerely,
pmw

Shipping a 'new, fresh and easy-to-use' OS in 2009/2010 without instant network functionality is like shooting yourself in the foot.
Admittedly, the stakes are very high as this time around everything has to work right out of the box. It also seems like a logical explanation as to why the beta is already this damn good.

WxToImg Problem
The only program that I have problems with is WxToImg it has just about worked with some of the early Beta's but now I have a genuine activated version of 7000 32bit it fails 95% of the time.
The problem is trying to use stored audio files at first I could get it to work by putting them on the desktop instead of their correct place but now that works no longer.
I have the latest software version 2.9.0 to no avail

right click on the installer and select Properties, Compatibility Tab Windows XP service pack 2
then at the bottom put a tick in Run as Administrator Apply/OK
then try installing. Another reason that RTCW might not run on your version of windows 7 is due to the video card drivers. There was never a Vista version released for that card as far as i am aware, so it falls into the XDDM driver problem, as far as i am aware.
