Support for date and time columns in SQLServerBulkCopy
I downloaded the JDBC driver 4.2 preview release version from
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=11774
When I use the SQLServerBulkCopy API on a source table with a DATE column, the API throws an exception when attempting indicating that timestamp columns are not supported.
However, the documentation shows an example of using this API to copy a table with a DATE column. The table BulkCopyDemoOrderHeader is used in one of the examples and it contains a DATE column.
https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/mt221490(v=sql.110).aspx
Is there another preview release version that supports date/time/datetime columns?
Troubleshooting “Fail to find SQL Service. Make sure that SQL Server service (default instance) is installed in machine XX.domain.com” when run Step 2 during Skype for Business Server 2015 installation
Environment: Skype for business Server 2015 Standard Edition, version number: 6.0.9319.0
【Symptom】
Receive error message: "Fail to find SQL Service. Make sure that SQL Server service (default instance) is installed in machine XX.domain.com" when run Step 2 "Setup or Remove Skype for Business Server Components":

More error information:

【Cause】
The error happens because of the wrong SQL Edition for Monitoring/Archiving database.

In the topology, Archiving/Monitoring store use the SQL Express Edition cause the issue.
【Reason】
Skype for Business Server 2015 Standard Edition use SQL Server Express Edition as the database. However, Monitoring/Archiving database only support
Skype for Business Server 2015 can use any of the following databases as the backend store for Monitoring/Archiving:
•Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Enterprise Edition
•Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Standard Edition
•Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Enterprise Edition
•Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Standard Edition
•Microsoft SQL Server 2014 Enterprise Edition
•Microsoft SQL Server 2014 Standard Edition
Note that it is supported to use the 64-bit editions of these databases; 32-bit versions of SQL Server cannot be used as the backend store for Monitoring/Archiving. Likewise, Skype for Business Server 2015 does not support the Express Editions of SQL Server 2008 or SQL Server 2012.
For Skype for Business Server 2015, it is also supported to archive data with Exchange 2013 compliance data (only for the users who are homed on the Exchange 2013 Servers).
【Solution】
Step 1
1. Uncheck the option of "Archiving" and "Monitoring (CDR and QoE metrics)" in Skype for business Server 2015 Topology.

Or
2. Install the supported SQL Server Edition above on the Skype for Business Standard Edition or on other computer for Monitoring/Archiving database. Then choose the correct FQND and Instance for Archiving and Monitoring.
Step 2
Publish topology again

Step 3
Rerun Step 1 "Install Local Configuration Store" with Skype for Business Server 2015 – Deployment Wizard

Step 4
Rerun Step 2 "Setup or Remove Skype for Business Server Components"

Reply:
which steps did you run.
Through the topology you should first only define a SFB standard server without monitoring and a WAC server.
The file share should be created on the FE.
For Monitoring you will need a separate SQL server on another machine.
Run the deployment Wizzard an select "Prepare First Standard edition server"

Hello guys!
What is not migrated in Hybrid Deployment between Exch 2013 and Office 365? I know that Email, Calendar and Tasks are migrated.

Office 2013 -- Why be so radically different in the UI?
I've noticed something rather nasty about Office 2013. For some reason that I cannot correlate to any action on my part the Outlook UI (as an example) will suddenly start showing garbage and artifacts in the ribbon and the tree on the left, as well as trashing or hiding parts of messages in previews.
At first I was chalking it up to a laptop that was a couple of years old and, maybe, it was having some graphics issues (even though no other apps were suffering). However, now that I've gotten a new laptop, I am seeing the same issues. I noticed a flag in the options titled "disable hardware acceleration" and I checked that to "on". No luck. Still getting garbage now and then which hides information from me. Hiding or trashing information is kind of a "no-no" when it happens within an app that is trying to sell itself as "enterprise class."
At any rate, I am not hoping for any actual response to this in terms of real help. Instead, my intention is to get one - just one - senior developer at MS to ask themselves "Why do we choose to deviate from the rest of planet earth in the way that we choose to display things. It doesn't count as 'cutting edge' or 'innovation' because it often doesn't work right during some relatively basic operations. In those cases we look extra bad because - unlike all the other developers on earth - we wrote the OS too. We own the entire stack and therefore have literally no excuse. Maybe we should just be normal within the apps that form the bulk of our cash flow."
...that's all I guess.

Could you please take a screenshot of graphics issues you see on your machines?
Do you have any antivirus software installed on the PCs?

Reply:
I appreciate that you are interested in root causing this. I am not. Let me restate my original intention: Microsoft -- Please stop doing exotic things with apps that enterprises depend on.
That being said, why would it matter if I have antivirus programs installed? If MicroSoft has done something with the UI layer of office that anti virus software can interfere with, then that's not something I want to know about. Rather, it would indicate to me that I need to find an alternative solution from a software vendor which isn't doing something so strange with something so routine.

Actually -- I know I said I didn't want to help, but this is just so funny. I have to close and restart Office apps a few times per day because of this. ...just SMH.

...Why yes. yes it is. This is an office-only glitch. It can only be resolved by uninstalling (or not using) office. See initial post: There's nothing wrong with my hardware or drivers, nor are any other apps on my machine experiencing this app-suicide.

Reply:
If anyone on the Office team cares -- I believe this glitching behavior to be related to how I orient my taskbar. When I place it on the left of the screen (where I would like it to be) then office screws up its UI several times per day. When I put my taskbar on the bottom of the screen (where MS would like it to be) then the UI seems much more stable with zero glitching events so far. Given how I see it rendering text during the glitching state, it seems clear that it is having a coordinate translation issue, which makes sense if the Office developers forgot you can move the taskbar and just didn't account for it in some common scenarios...

I will, however, tell you that this is a Lenovo T540p. I suspect that a certain combination of video hardware and driver, perhaps in addition to McAfee nanny-ware are exposing what my original complaint is about: that Microsoft has chosen to architect a UI solution in a cash-cow, "enterprise class" email bloat-client that is susceptible to interference by those things whereas no other applications on this machine are. It's comically bad considering who wrote it.

Hi MrManMan
If you find your exchange with Eugene somewhat confusing it's because you've posted in a forum dedicated to supporting programmers writing code for Office applications and the assumption is the problem you're seeing is occurring when your code is running in the application.
The IT Pro forums in the TechNet set of forums would be the better place to get assistance. But none of these forums is monitored by the "Office team" - support is peer-to-peer plus contractors hired by Microsoft.
For general feedback:
https://support2.microsoft.com/contactus/emailcontact.aspx?scid=sw;en;1539
FWIW, the standard approach to trouble-shoot your problem is to get updated video card AND printer drivers from the manufacturers. They test their products against each new version of Office and update the drivers to work with technology changes.

To that end - I replaced the laptop at some point. All drivers were up to date on the last one, and are up to date on this one. The problem persisted over all changes described and continues to amuse me as I have to resize open emails in order to get it to repaint itself and restore the garbled text, or restart the app entirely as it pukes all over it's folder tree and ribbon buttons -- a couple of times per day usually. And, as I've noted, it's the only app on my laptop doing this.

July 29 may not be such a good idea
As of now xxxx30 release, 6 weeks before final release what I experience daily:
Win 10 will still not install/upgrade in many systems that have more than one drive of any kind attached (a web search on this problem yielded the only way I have been able to install and upgrade).
At install makes annoying and pointless changes in UEFI. In fact with random boots into Win 10 I have seen changes to the UEFI settings.
Win 10 boot times have improved (yay).
Win 10 too frequently triggers mandatory (can not be stopped by pressing the keyboard) and not necessary disc checks in dual boot systems with Win 8 because Win 10 does not shut down properly. This has persisted in every version with a fresh install of each version on its own drive (it has to be, see the first problem). If the disc check, because it is really not needed, is interrupted by a reboot Win 8 can become unbootable. If this is not fixed Win 10 will be crushed on release by early adapters--I cannot be the only one seeing this.
Serious ownership conflicts between Win 8 and Win 10 over files in dual boot systems, possibly contributing to the disk checking problem.
Edge/Spartan does not work with many web sites, e.g. entering text, freezes on many web sites--as such remains pretty but useless. I like the interface but can not use the browser for actual work.
Cortina: does not really do much when it works at all-users are expecting reliable and complete voice control regardless of what MS is actually offering. The rest of the beta/non-working apps no one cares about anyway.
I got more but not as serious.
I would like to see Win 10 succeed. I do not see how fundamental flaws can be fixed by the end of July that have not changed since the first public beta. I hope MS avoids another Vista debacle.

Funny thing... I've got a system I can boot both Win 7 and Win 10 TP on, and Win 7 reboots literally within 1 or 2 seconds of the time of Win 10.
Comparing hybrid boot with a real bootup we're talking about 5 seconds difference (the whole thing boots up in about 15 seconds anyway, including POST). But hybrid boot isn't really an honest performance improvement.
Based on objective measurements, Win 10 really isn't faster than its predecessors for anything other than a small improvement in 3D rendering (of course, this will be all that matters to gamers). Win 10's file system implementation is actually a good bit slower and THAT matters for almost everything.

I faced similar problem before.
Because Window 10's reboot sequence skips BIOS check etc. and takes precedence over other OS loader or DVD boot drive, once something happend to its system while rebooting process cause your PC never work again...
(I fixed the problem by turning on the PC without HDD using recovery CD-ROM, then put back the HDD and rebuild BCDStore.)
I doubt Windows 10 is really faster than older OSs.
It just cut off chunks of what's needed due to make it look slim, sacrificing stability & usability. :(

Can't access RSOP_UserPrivilegeRight from PS or C#
Hello,
i would like to access to RSOP_UserPrivilegeRight by exemple with this line in PS:
Get-WmiObject -Namespace root\rsop\computer -Class RSOP_UserPrivilegeRight but there is nothing..
I'm bad for expressing myself so i will give my c# code, it will be easier for you to understand:
ManagementScope scope = new ManagementScope(@"\\localhost\root\rsop\computer"); ObjectQuery query = new ObjectQuery("SELECT * FROM RSOP_UserPrivilegeRight Where UserRight='SeRemoteInteractiveLogonRight' and precedence=1"); ManagementObjectSearcher searcher = new ManagementObjectSearcher(scope, query); ManagementObjectCollection queryCollection = searcher.Get(); foreach (ManagementObject m in queryCollection) { Console.WriteLine("AccountList : {0}", m["AccountList"]); } Nothing appears, but if i only change RSOP_UserPrivilegeRight by ("SELECT * FROM RSOP_RegistryPolicySetting") I get everything i need, does anyone knows why?
Ask me all your question, I'll be glad to answer,
Thank you

When you say "there is nothing", do you mean you get no output at all?

If you open the RSOP console an review the report you will see that the gp values are all blank and local values are all undefined.

There are a number of books written about the details of GP and RSOP usage and technical deployment. I recommend getting one of thise to gain an understanding.
Your question has come up in this and other forums for years. If you search you will find many threads discussing this deficiency.

Have you tried searching for documentation and books on the subject? Search for "Group Policy Books"
Here is a starter: http://www.amazon.com/Group-Policy-Fundamentals-Security-Managed/dp/1118289404
Read the descriptions on how GP is implemented and how RSOP is used/created.

No one can decipher what you are asking.
You need too ask a consistent question.
In a stand alone workgroup computer you cannot get those values with PowerShell. You can use SecEdit to dump the data to an Inf file and extract it.
There are tools availbale from third parties that can read the SAM directly.

Ok, i'm going to try to explain :
my goal is to modify some computer configuration settings in C#, i have no problem with registry but with WMI i have try to modify it with my code for 10 days. But the first problem i get is that with ManagementScope Class, i only can "get"/"read" some RSOP but not modify them. The second issu is that i can't access some RSOP to modify them (for exemple: RSOP_UserPrivilegeRight)

Once again. You cannot do what you are trying to do. Only GP can do this. It is not available to scripting or the the Net framework. We use SecEdit to modify the system base security or a local GPO. Local GPOs are not exposed to scripting.
Since this is a C# question you are posting in the wrong forum. YOu need to move ths to the C# developers forum.
There is no way in any language to modify the system security with WMI.

Whenever I try to connect to a server running Windows Server 2012 R2, I get an error that says, "The logon failed." I can't seem to find any events in the Windows logs on either the gateway or the destination.
This has been happening ever since the RDC app included an OpenSSL update a couple of versions ago.

Logon with rdp failed here also, if i get a Login-prompt from Windows Server 2012 R2 to enter my Login data.
But if i enter the logindata complete in the Remote Desktop Client (mstsc) and its following password dialog, I am able to connect.
It seems to be a bug in Windows Server 2012 R2.
If you want to enter new data in the 'remote desktop client', you can klick the delete-link and enter your name in the username textfield.

Windows Server 2012+ Page File Size
Hello,
I've been doing a bit of light reading... I have a server fleet consisting primarily of 2008/2008R2 machines and the organization has previously stuck to the common 'rule-of-thumb' concept that for adequate stability, management of hard page faults and system dump collection, the page file size should be roughly 1.5x the allocated Physical Memory (or RAM).
I've checked out such sites as:
- https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/30df24e9-5f11-48bd-bbcf-63a04e854002/server-page-file-size?forum=sharepointadmin
- https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/e4319d3c-d54d-4c1d-8ec4-332bee9b9ba8/windows-server-2012-page-file-recommendations?forum=winserver8gen
It seems that the typical 'rule-of-thumb' above has existed for several years (some even going as far back as the old "NT4" days), so I'm inclined to think based on all of this, that this concept is becoming more and more obsolete in light of:
- Servers and server provisioning concepts are now measuring in GB and TB, rather than tens of hundreds of MB's - especially when RAM is concerned
- The cost/pricing considerations in managing performance (such as hard faults, memory commit/performance counters has changed)
- Applications have become more memory-intelligent - MS SQL Server, for example, has its own exclusivities and controls around memory management, and tempdb/paging of its processes; this has resulted in less requirement by the OS to manage memory/paging
- The gigantic shift in security, application and OS architecture from 32-bit to 64-bit has paved the way for even larger memory allocation than previously possible
- The sheer variance and disparity of memory/page file size has grown... servers today can still operate with 1-2GB of RAM... or they can have thousands of GB.
- There are articles (such as above) that make new recommendations on page file size for Win8/Server2012 due to advances in design.
I'm at a point where I need to consider refreshing my server fleet with 2012+ OS, and page file size for some of our larger servers (SQL admittedly) becomes an interesting prospect, not just in the respect that I need disk space, but the availability of high-performing RAID10 or flash storage becomes a very interesting discussion as dollars quickly go from hundreds to thousands here...
My inclination is to worry less about the "1.5" rule, and simply allow the OS to follow its min/recommended requirements to operate, and then allow applications to manage accordingly. Certainly, performance monitoring of any server would contribute to this concept... but I wonder, in this day and age, with tax calculators being so complex... you'd think someone would have written a Page File Calculator that takes into account a lot of the typical requirements and considerations when sizing, distributing and provisioning a server... ;)
Any feedback would be welcome...
Thanks.

Hi,
With large physical memory, actually we can set less paging file. As you may also noticed that in KB2860880 also said "consider extending or adding a page file if all the following conditions are true:"
More available physical memory (\Memory\Available MBytes) is required.
The modified page list contains a significant amount of memory.
The existing page files are fairly full (\Paging Files(*)\% Usage).
With a large physical memory size, the only issue in that article is that you cannot get a full memory dump if the computer crashed.
In Windows 10, it added an option to generate an "active memory dump", which could reduce the size of a full memory dump. When we upgrade to Windows 10, we will get another reason to reduce the size of paging file.

Thankyou Shaon,
I am aware of the conditions as you've mentioned from KB2860880; the main reason I've posted this (admittedly-not-quite-a-)question is that the last two of your three items would almost certainly have to be measured in a live/production environment.
This can take most of the "fun" out of determining - in theoretical scenarios - what kind of impact any significant changes of a server's RAM demands (and allocation) might have on physical disk space, not to mention the capabilities of the newer OS itself.
With my organization, disk space and performance (IO throughput in particular) is at a premium, so if for example I'm upgrading or provisioning a server with 16GB RAM, and a potentially needless 24GB page file, and there's 40 of them... well, the potentially misused space racks up very quickly. In some cases I have less than the desired, so this makes it even more "fun". When you put this all together in a clustered hypervisor environment with SAN, one still must make careful decisions about where the bottlenecks may be, and how to manage them.
It's very cool that Windows 10 has introduced the 'active mem dump' feature. I will certainly be watching that space.
I think MS should analyse and optimize its paging feature and provide a more detailed run-down of what it thinks could contribute to a better-performing page file configuration.
But it sounds like I'll have to keep doing my own taxes for now... Cheers... :)

[Forum FAQ]How to make Cortana “Interests” available
Scenario:
Sometimes, when you launch the Cortana, it may prompt this message "Go ahead and tell Cortana what to do. Interests aren't available at the moment."
Cause:
Because Cortana doesn't pick up any interests of yours. You need to customize it.
Solution:
Step 1: Click the "…" [1] as the screenshot below to expand the menu.

Step 2: In the expanded menu, click Hide the headlines[2]. Note: Headlines is one of my displayed entry, yours might be different.
Step 3: Repeat the same actions above for more one entries. And then click OPt your device out of Cortana selfhost (bonus Satya info page!) link at the bottom of the page.

Step 4: In the popped out window, click the Homepage icon at the left navigation pane. It would jump another window as below. It indicates the Cortana has already picked up some of your interests. Now you could get it done.

Carey - Any chance you can find out how we're supposed to activate computers running the insider preview of Enterprise edition that have been upgraded to 10240?
I understand it is intended to activate against a KMS server, but afaik the CSVLK keys to enable KMS servers for Windows 10 activation won't be available until 8/1/15.

So I am assuming my son will have to go back to Windows 8.1 as his new SSD drive is replacing his dead SATA tomorrow and wont be able to activate, he isn't very happy about it.. He was starting to enjoy testing Win10..
Whats the reason for deactivating the keys ?
I think that was a bad move towards the Insider testers......

What should he do with that machine.

Back Door Push of Windows 10 Installation Files?
To all:
I happened to hear of Microsoft's newest build for Windows 10 - Build 10240 - just released late last night.
Within the last couple of days, I noticed something on my Windows tower at home - data use soared. The weird thing is, I do NOT have Windows Update activated on that system at all. So no updates or even checks for updates should be occurring.
But...since Windows 10 is such a major release, it occurred to me - might Microsoft be pushing installation files ahead of July 29 regardless of what users have specified in Windows Update? While on the phone with my Internet service provider I watched my wireless connection (Control Panel >> Network and Sharing Center >> Connections >> Wi-Fi Status) gobble up over 2 GB of data in just 30 minutes. As I recall, the installation file for Windows 10 will require at least 3 GB.
Anyone have any comments about what may have happened there?
Thanks,
Charles
******** UPDATE ********
UPDATE (17 July 2015) - As it turns out, the culprit for the high data usage was not a Windows 10 download in the background, but another Microsoft property - OneDrive.
OneDrive sits placidly in the File Explorer until a user decides to use it. When they do, they are given no notice or warning that the synching capability of OneDrive can eat up data quickly on metered internet connections - these are connections that are wireless or through a "hot-spot" device, and differ from "always on" wired internet connections that usually offer unlimited data consumption.
I had copied about 6.5GB of data onto my OneDrive and because I have four other Windows 8.1 devices, all with OneDrive, they all attempted to sync the data, resulting in a massive data consumption situation. I would not have noticed had I not been using a metered internet connection, but I am having to watch what I consume now that I have limits.
I made a suggestion elsewhere to Microsoft that users be alerted that OneDrive operation can consume large amounts of data, and that auto-sync should not be defaulted to "on". There should also be better communication to users who are new to OneDrive, or who may be about to copy something over a certain size threshold (say, 100 MB).
Thanks to anyone who looked into this. I consider this matter closed now.
Cordially,
Charles

Hi Charles,
What is your current operating system (The Windows tower mentioned here)?
Based on the information you shared, it seems that you are running Windows 10 by now.
Windows 10 build 10240 is released to both the fast and the slow ring, so in such situation, it will be automatically downloaded and then installed on Windows 10 machines.

Will this problem be solved: "Keyboard delay and repeat rate bug"?
This is an ongoin problem from XP to Win7 to Win8 to Win8.1.
See https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/98b338cb-6f37-451d-9e32-5f6bdac9d436/keyboard-delay-and-repeat-rate-bug-please-check?forum=w7itproui
While for XP and Win 7 there seemd to be a solution to this problem, I just can't get it sorted on Win8.1 and with the upcoming 10 I don't want to have this again.
Whenever I close the lid of my Lenovo Yoga 15 (or any other machine I tried sofar) the key repeat rate goes annoyingly slow, but when checking in Control Panel - Keyboard, it's still set to maximum.
But when I just click on the thumb (and don't alter the value) and then press OK, the repeat rate goes back to normal (fast).
The solution given in the thread above, does NOT work on Win8.1. I've got Filter Keys (or in German it's called "Anschlagverzögerung aktivieren") unchecked and it still happens.
This is really annoying!!!!
And it's a problem going through this forum - and others (e.g. Lenovo, Dell, Acer, ...) for years and years.
Now is the chance to finally do something about this - so do it, please!!!!!!!!!
And maybe even push a fix for Win8.1 - just out of courtesy ;-)

that is a good suggestion since they removed the feedback app in build 10240.Click on Start and type in "feedback", it is still there and works just fine.

Windows 10 build 10240 bug 2
Speed indicator of mobile Broadband connection does not show connection speed anymore.
In wndows 8.1 we had Telenor (LTE) or Telenor (HSPA+)
In Windows 10 we only see Telenor

Windows 10 activation? (10240)
Hi everyone! I need your help, this is what I did:
I had my Windows 7 installation, working and everything, activated.
Used Windows 10 build 10240 .ISO to upgrade from Windows 7, didn't asked for key, and it installed it normally.
Checked the license, used slmgr /dlv and slmgr /xpr:
- It says that "my computer is permanently activated"
- No expiration date, and licensed
- In configuration>Activation it shows "Windows 10 Pro" as licensed, no Preview, no Insider, just activated
The key ends in 6MT6Y
My problem is that my main HDD is dying (the one where I have Windows 10 right now).
I need to install it in a SSD I have, because I now can't even boot from it. So I want to know if I can do it, keeping the activation.
As far as I know, Microsoft is assigning generic keys to people that are upgrading to Windows 10 from previous Windows, the thing that counts is that my hardware is registered in your servers as "A PC that upgraded from an activated Windows" so I can activate it in my SSD
I got updates and everything in the Windows 10 install. And everything points that it's activated correctly and it's working fine. It's not an insider key or something of that style.
But I really want to know before I install it on my SSD and format the old dying HDD. I want to be sure that I can install it and keep the activation to dump everything I have on the SSD, try to rescue something from the old HDD and all that stuff that you have to do when you clean install
Thanks :D

Since Microsoft did not release an ISO for Build 10240, or product keys, the one you somehow obtained will not activate. Build 10240 was designed to only activate when installed from Windows Update on a PC currently running an older, activated Windows 10 TP build installed & activated prior to 07/15/2015.

Windows 10 Insider Enterprise Edition Activation Failure

The is the Key available on the website does not work.
Microsoft is getting ready for the July 29th Windows 10 RTM release.
To ensure all transition will run smoothly, Microsoft has suspend/deactivate all pre-release product keys.
Please wait till July 29th is over. MS might then reactivate the product keys.
All pre-release product keys published earlier for builds of Windows 10 Insider Preview have been deactivated and will no longer activate any Preview builds, including Build 10240.
