Cannot join domain "the network path was not found"

Cannot join domain "the network path was not found"

Hi there.

As I wanted to install new Microsoft  Lync Server, I tried to prepare a virtual machine for this. For some reason I used a virtual machine that I tested for some another services, therefore it had some changes on it.

As you know before installing Lync Server your client must be join a domain and when I tried to joined it I faced with this error "The following error occurred attempting to join the domain "ysatech"; the network path was not found "

The network path was not found

Before my search, I thought it was DNS problem. I checked DNS but nothing was wrong.

I searched for it and I read some forums answers and I resolved it:

As I said my client server had some changes, the problem was in the NIC but not about DNS or WINS. The "Client for Microsoft Networks" of NIC of my domain network was not checked and it must be checked.

Client for Microsoft Networks

Reply:

Check the dns setting on client and ensure the setting as below.
1. Each workstation/member server should point to local DNS server as primary DNS and other remote DNS servers as secondary.
2. Do not set public DNS server in TCP/IP setting of client/member server.
3. If multiple NIC are configured disable the unrequired NIC.Check the NIC binding order too.

This issue may occur if the TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper Service is not running on the client computer.

I will also recommend to enable the Client for Microsoft Networks. If still issue persist post the ipconfig /all details of client computer.

Yes, you are correct "Client for Microsoft Networks"shall be active all the time when we are using Network and domain scenarios. Other wise we cannot access network related resources. For stand alone server it is not required.

Hi Ahmed,

That is correct, it must be checked. "The Client for Microsoft Networks" component allows a computer to access resources on a Microsoft network. This component is installed and enabled by default.

Can I upgrade computers from Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 without deploying a new image?

Computers running Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 can be upgraded directly to Windows 10 using the in-place upgrade process without a need to reimage the device. Using System Center Configuration Manager this upgrade can be managed automatically through an Operating System Deployment task sequence. See How to upgrade to Windows 10 using the task sequence in System Center 2012 R2 Configuration Manager on the System Center Configuration Manager Team Blog.

Where can I find drivers for my devices for Windows 10 Enterprise?

For many devices, drivers will be automatically installed in Windows 10 and there will be no need for additional action.

  • For some devices, Windows 10 may be unable to install drivers that are required for operation. If your device drivers are not automatically installed, visit the manufacturer's support website for your device to download and manually install the drivers.  If Windows 10 drivers are not available, the most up-to-date drivers for Windows 8.1 will often work in Windows 10.
  • For some devices, the manufacturer may provide more up-to-date drivers or drivers that enable additional functionality than the drivers installed by Windows 10. Always follow the recommendations of the device manufacturer for optimal performance and stability.
  • Some computer manufacturers provide packs of drivers for easy implementation in management and deployment solutions like MDT or SCCM. These driver packs contain all of the drivers needed for each device and can greatly simplify the process of deploying Windows to a new make or model of computer. Driver packs for some common manufacturers include:

Where can I find out if an application or device is compatible with Windows 10?

The Windows Compatibility Center is a community generated database of compatibility information. You can look up your device or application there to see if other users have reported the device or app to be compatible or not. You can also provide feedback and rate the compatibility of apps or devices to help answer the questions of other users of Windows.

Best Practice for Calendar Management

As for an Exchange administrator, the most headache problem is to manage thousands of calendar items or troubleshoot calendar related issues. If there is no standard rules for using calendars, you event log will also be full of calendar error events.

In order to avoid such pains, here we summarized and made a best practice for your reference. Most of them are from the user side and some of them should be cared on the Exchange Server side:

1. Outlook with the latest service pack. It's better to have same version of all the Outlook client

2. Delegate and manager should use same Outlook build

3. Do not configure Outlook rules that move meetings

4. Manage meetings from one machine (Considering client side synchronization interval with the mailbox)

5. Single delegate (Avoid multiple delegates for one manager)

6. Don't create recurrent meeting requests without start or end day

7. Don't create recurrent meeting request longer than one and a half years

8. Exchange with latest service pack and rollup

9. BES (BlackBerry Enterprise Server) with latest service pack and hotfixes

10. Latest version of BlackBerry Desktop Manager

11. Latest cdo.dll on BES, also the same version cdo.dll on BES and Exchange Server.

If anything is missing, please feel free to reply this thread. Many hands make light work.

Windows 10 build 10168/10240 incompatible with Intel G3258 processor

Dear Microsoft,

Please google "windows 10 G3258 problem". Google is picking up on this, why isn't Microsoft? Please pay some attention to this problem. It's isn't so hard to piece together what's happening

Refering to generic Microsoft articles isn't adressing the real problem. Somehow after build 10130 code was introduced that's seems to effect systems based on an Intel G3258 processor. From the different posts it seems the chipset (H81 or Z97) doesn't really matter. The processor seems key.

Simply boot any G3258 based system (with all cores enabled) and windows 10 won't boot after build 10130  (10240, 10168 etc). Upgrades from any build (10130 or less) from to 10168/10240 will fail with 0xC1900101 - 0x20017 error

or a boot loop. Any attempt of a clean clean system install and/or boot from 10168/10240 installation media (DVD / USB) will result in a boot loop.  Believe me I've tried everything and so have others with the same results.

The only confirmed "workarround" so far is disabling a processor core in the BIOS. Effectively turning the G3258 into a single core processor. Once you do that all other options suddenly work: upgrade via windows update, upgrade via DVD/USB, clean install from DVD/USB. This workaround will allow you to update windows 10 to build TH1 10240 via any of the usual means. However once you are on 10240 and try to enable all processor cores again you are back at a boot loop.

Unless Microsoft wakes up and fixes this bug any G3258 system will not be able to upgrade to windows 10 as the majority of system owners won't even begin to grasp howto disable a core in the BIOS (if they even now what a BIOS is)

If you read some of the info pointed to by your search, you will note the problem originated with an update from Intel for CPU microcode.  And, although Microsoft issued this microcode update to all systems, the ultimate culprit for the problem is Intel.  Intel has sole responsibility for support of their products and Intel is the entity that supplied the microcode update to Microsoft.

Microsoft did not write the microcode update.  Intel wrote the update!

This issue also needs to be addressed directly to Intel for resolution!

Read the info in June 2015 Intel CPU microcode update for Windows

Yup read the info pointing to the microcode update, which might point toward an Intel update driver as the root cause.

Frankly from a customer perspective I don't really care about the root cause. I care about the effect: Windows 10 is not working on my recent mainstream computer hardware. In a week when I'll be buying a licence for a Windows 10 Operating System, I'll expect it do what is should: Operate my system. Period.

This is like buying a new car in order to drive. If the car doesn't drive because of faulty hardware/software or any other part of the car that is delivered as an integral part of the car. I'll complain with the manufacturer of the car, not the supplier of the part that is faulty.

So my question remains unaltered: Microsoft please make sure your windows 10 operating system will operate my system.

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy[edit]

The number 42 is, in The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams, "The Answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything", calculated by an enormous supercomputer over a period of 7.5 million years. Unfortunately, no one knows what the question is. Thus, to calculate the Ultimate Question, a special computer the size of a small planet was built from organic components and named "Earth". This appeared first in the radio play and later in the novelization of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. The fact that Adams named the episodes of the radio play "fits", the same archaic title for a chapter or section used by Lewis Carroll in "The Hunting of the Snark", suggests that Adams was influenced by Carroll's fascination with and frequent use of the number. The fourth book in the series, the novel So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish, contains 42 chapters. According to the novel Mostly Harmless, 42 is the street address of Stavromula Beta. In 1994 Adams created the 42 Puzzle, a game based on the number 42. The phrase 'the answer to life, the universe and everything is' has exactly 42 characters, including the comma after 'life'.

The book 42: Douglas Adams' Amazingly Accurate Answer to Life, the Universe and Everything[15] examines Adams' choice of the number 42 and also contains a compendium of some instances of the number in science, popular culture, and humour.

TH1 Professional 10240 won't boot with G3258 CPU with all cores enabled - problem since 10158

This has been an ongoing issue since 10158.  There are numerous threads about this.  It appears this bug will not be rectified before the release?  I can't believe nobody from MS has even posted a reply regarding this issue.  It's a pretty common cpu so I assume it will make a lot of people unhappy when they try to update on the 29th...

Trying to figure this out can make you feel crazy and/or make you feel like YOU did something wrong, or even have bad hardware. 99% its none of this:

There is a work around by enabling ( 1 ) core only in the Bios, this will let you install, update, and run 10240 but your stuck with the 1 core thingy, going back in anytime afterwards to fire up the 2nd core will give you the startup 'death loop' all over again.  I believe the real problem here is this:

       *** KB3064209 ***

       JUNE 2015 Intel CPU

microcode update for Windows

This gave many Win 7 and 8.1 G3258 the exact same problem after installing/updating and then attempt at restarting. I think it came out n mid-June for them.  Mostly likely inter-grated with Windows 10 builds after 10130 all the way into 10240, we naturally have a real big problem here.

Although it may take them a thousand years, I am certain MS will fix this for the G3258, that seemed to had been singularity affected by this update.

As many have already indicated it appears to be the incompatibility of the KB3064209 update with Intel's Millennium  Edition G3258.

Don't expect Intel will be too happy with their special processor for the gaming community being crashed.

Of course the insider program trial users expect problems but major ones like this should be flagged for tomorrows general Windows 10 release.

As long as your device is still working, it will receive Updates and patches just like you are receiving Windows Updates now. No extra charge. Support for life.

That's a generous answer David!

Its hard to know for sure. There have been some leaks that say... for example... a Desktop with Win7 or 8.1 upgraded to 10 will get support for 4 years. Other times I've read 2 years. I haven't seen a clear answer on whether they are saying they will support Windows 10 on a 10+ year old computer...

What does lifetime of the device mean?

The logical conclusion is as long as the machine is operable, Microsoft will continue to support it with updates. So, if the machine still works 5 or 10 years from now, revisions and updates to Windows 10 will be made available to it. Please note that Windows 10 uses the same life cycle policy of 5 years mainstream support and 5 years extended support.

..............................................................................................................

Why all these concerns about what if 2 or 3 years down the road ?

By then Win 10 may be already obsolete.

Company Portal - Contact by Email (iOS)

My scenario:

Intune integrated with SCCM 2012 R2.  I have enrolled my iPad successfully.  I deployed an O365 Exchange profile to my iPad sucessfully as well so the mail app is working.

The issue:  When I click "Contact by mail" from the Company Portal app, I still get the message stating "Email Not Configured - Email must be configured to perform this action".

Any ideas on why its not finding my Email?

Hi William,

I just tested the scenario and was working for me.

Have you launched your email since the profile was installed on the device?

I'd close everything out, confirm email works and launch the portal again.

Hi Jon, yes I deployed the email profile yesterday and have used it often since.  No issues with Mail working.  I've closed out of both programs (swipe up) and relaunched both and still continue to get the message that email must be configured from the Company Portal app.  :-/  Not sure where else to look here?  I'm using an iPad 2 with iOS 7.1.2 BTW.

Just bumping to see if anyone has any ideas here.  I rolled my iPad back to iOS 7 since the extensions for SCCM weren't available yet.  I then upgraded once again to 8.0.2 now that the extensions are enabled, and re-enrolled my iPad.

I received the EAS profile from SCCM and mail is working just fine, however still have the issue with the "Contact by email" link in the Company Portal app.  Still shows email is not configured.

Has anyone else deployed an EAS profile from SCCM/Intune and tried using this link?  Curious if I unenroll my iPad, configure email manually and then try again if that would work.  Any other suggestions are welcome :-)

Hmm, are you getting this error when clicking the Contact by Email link in the Company Portal app?  If so that (I believe) would be expected.  The Company Portal app is not aware of the Outlook app in that capacity.  Its looking for the native mail client to be configured.  Someone correct me if I am mistaken.

What you say might be true, though it doesn't make any sense...

the whole idea of make a deployment for the Outlook mobile client is so that client won't use the native client at all (maybe for their private email, but it still doesn't need to be a prerequisite)

I think the thing here (assuming what I asked above is correct) is that the Company Portal App is only aware of the native mail client, so what you are seeing is expected.  I do agree that it would be great to see a feature update so that it would also be able to detect the Outlook mail app if its exists and use that.

Well... yeah...

there are still many things we wish to have in the Outlook mail app that are far from Enterprise needs.

hopefully they will come eventually

so I guess we agree that currently there's not much we can do here :/

AD nightmare

Hi everybody

Need some more heads to get an idea :)

Our customer have two domains in forest  e.g. DOMAIN.LOCAL and CHILD.DOMAIN.LOCAL

They find that clock on workstations are sometimes skewed,  the symptoms were rarely but were, in further investigation the result was: NTDS corruption on primary DC and therefore AD was not reliable, some clients switched to backup DC which resides on VMware host that hasn't hw clock synchronised, - OK time was set to synchro with NTP , primary DC restored from Backup 2 days ago, synchronisation between PRIMARY and SECONDARY DC's is now ok without errors, but deep inspection of eventless showed that DC from CHILD.DOMAIN.LOCAL hasn't been replicated successfully for  almost 1 year!!! , so what now?

With so long unreplicated state isn't possible to force replication with partner out of replication period, the result is unpredictable - cannot risk forest corruption , not mentioning lingering objects changes to schema .... on the other side isn't possible demote child domain dc and/or lose the child domain. I'm not sure if is possible to only invoke unidirectional replication of critical data from forest root domain do child domain's DC and then also try allow fix replication  to replicate the rest of data from child to parent because both DC's  (e.g MASTERDC.DOMAIN.LOCAL and DC.CHILD.DOMAIN.LOCAL) are Global catalogs.

As i already said i have examined logs so thats why i said its not ok even if the repadmin /replsum /errorsonly is quiet.

from eventlog:

It has been too long since this machine last replicated with the named source machine. The time between replications with this source has exceeded the tombstone lifetime. Replication has been stopped with this source.

The reason that replication is not allowed to continue is that the two DCs may contain lingering objects.  Objects that have been deleted and garbage collected from an Active Directory Domain Services partition but still exist in the writable partitions of other DCs in the same domain, or read-only partitions of global catalog servers in other domains in the forest are known as "lingering objects".  If the local destination DC was allowed to replicate with the source DC, these potential lingering object would be recreated in the local Active Directory Domain Services database.

Time of last successful replication:

you can remove the DC from AD. First run the following command see is there any FSMO roles resides on that DC. If yes kindly Transfer or Seized the role.

Once you have done the above steps then download the script from below link for metadata clean-up.

https://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/scriptcenter/d31f091f-2642-4ede-9f97-0e1cc4d577f3

Copy the code in notepad and save as metadatacleanup.vbs and then open the command prompt run as administrator on one of the DC and go to the path where you have copied the script and then run the command cscript metadatacleanup.vbs

It will ask for Domain controller name which you want to remove just type Crashed DC name and then script will remove automatically. Once this is done you have to remove Crashed DC from DNS manually as given below.

Manual Steps

Hi,

Can you check this link and see if it helps? I know it is for windows 2000, but it is a worth trying since you have only 1 DC in child domain.

Also, check this link who had similar issue.

Purvesh, I know how to remove DC from domain manually but i need the domain objects from child domain (users, groups, etc.. i cant simply remove the DC because its the only which host the child domain.

Hi,

you can export the records and then demote the DC. or try suggestion provided by Umesh.

Reply:
yes but this implies also creating new child domain and rejoining all the computers

Here your backup and restore method also will not work.

The specified query is too complex to be evaluated as a single statement.-Cubes

Hello All,

In our current system we have 100 Mllion in out-standings and about 2500 dealers which we are working on cubes using which we have generated a mdx query which has a length of (29000) lines...When we are trying to execute it it is throwing the following exception below :

Executing the query ...
The specified query is too complex to be evaluated as a single statement.
Execution complete

So can you please let us know what needs to be done in here...If required i can provide you the mdx query generated.

In future we are trying to expand our business where we would be planning to have 2-20 Billion in outstandings and 30-50 thousand dealers which would increase the mdx nearly 60 times what it is currently.

So can you please let us know how do you want us to proceed reg this..is cubes the only solution or is there any other ways where we can handle such huge data. Please suggest.

Regards,

Vamsi.

Hi kamesh,

I suppose the query gets that large because each member is adressed with its key or name explicitly.

Could you optimise it by using level expressions (e.g. [Dealer].[Dealer].Members) or Named Sets stored in the cube?

Which client tool do you use for acessing the cube? Are we talking about generated or hand written MDX?

Cheers

Martin

Being Ready

Just a reminder:

Windows Insiders begin receiving Windows 10 in just 2 more days on July 29th.  Then all those who smartly did the Reserve thing.

Anyway, before migrating a prior OS to Windows, please, remember to do the following...

Make sure the OS is clean, healthy, clear of any unwanted, unneeded stuff and fully up-to-date including WU.

Backup & create a System Image of the prior OS before Upgrading.

Cheers,
Drew

With a pool of more than a billion devices to upgrade to win 10, only a small portion of those will get win 10 on July 29.  First, the insiders (those who have been testing window 10) will get it starting on July 29, there are ~5 million insiders.
After that, in the coming weeks and months Microsoft will upgrade those who have "reserved" win 10 in waves. Those who have "reserved" their copies of Windows 10 will be notified "once our compatibility work confirms you will have a great experience, and Windows 10 has been downloaded on your system,"
If Microsoft determines a user's system is "not yet ready for your upgrade," the company will provide more details, such as contact information to enable users to get more details from app developers and device makers.
Each day of the roll-out, we will listen, learn and update the experience for all Windows 10 users.

If you have not gotten the update or the notification be patient, over time you will

We've seen a few forum posts talking about changing registry keys to alter the update experience we shipped in Technical Preview build 9926. There are a couple of reasons that we don't recommend doing things like that.

First, the default experience is what we've tested across not just the Windows 10 team, but across all of Microsoft before we released it to you. That doesn't mean that you won't still find bugs, but it's definitely the code that's been most thoroughly tested. Changing things back to older versions is risky because the combination of those old settings with the rest of Windows 10 is not something that's been validated or supported, so we can't predict the side effects. It's possible that changing registry settings related to update could cause a machine to no longer be able to get new updates or Technical Preview builds.

The other reason to avoid changing the default update experience is that a lot of update-related code is actually being re-written in order to scale across the variety of different device types Windows 10 will support. Since Technical Previews are a work-in-progress, some code that may still be in build 9926 won't actually ship in the final version of Windows 10 that we provide to all our customers, so trying to re-enable that code temporarily won't provide a way to accurately assess Windows 10's update capabilities.

We want to hear your feedback! We're sharing Technical Preview releases early so we can understand exactly how customers are using our software and make sure we are designing our experiences to address those scenarios. The more specific the feedback, the more helpful it is for us – saying "I hate the new Windows Update UI" isn't very useful, but when we see "I need to be able to tell Windows Update to grab updates from WU itself and not from my internal corporate server, so the new Windows Update UI is painful for me", we can actually understand what changes we could make to solve those specific problems. We can't promise to fix everything that everyone asks for – and sometimes what one customer wants is exactly what another customer doesn't want – but the more you can help us understand why you want something changed, the better we can try to meet those needs.

Thanks for listening, and we look forward to hearing your responses.

Doesn't work with Windows 10 64-bit Pro build 10240 (RTM). That registry entry is blocked from being modified or deleted! Guess one would have to modify that offline now.

I overwrote the permissions for that key and changed it to full control for my user account so I could change it. BUT ALTHOUGH I MANAGED TO CHANGE THE DWORD VALUE TO 1, IT STILL DIDN'T SHOW UP!!!                       Dear Microsoft: PC Settings is ok for touch but for the majority of users, we prefer CONTROL PANEL!. YOU DONT EVEN LET US ADD USERS FROM IT NOW. GIVE CONTROL PANEL ITS POWER BACK!
