Retention policies and tags not applied to mailboxes
Hi all.
I created some new retention tags, then deleted old policies and created a new one called MyCompany. Then I added three tags to this new policy (MyCompany_4mo_archive, MyCompany_4mo_clean_deleted, MyCompany_4mo_clean_junk). MyCompany_4mo_archive is a default tag for entire mailbox that moves mail older then 120 days to Archive.
I applied this retention policy to all mailboxes, then checked it with
Get-Mailbox | Select RetentionPolicy
But when I open my mailbox with OWA, I see in parent folder some old assigned policy with "Default 4 month move to Archive" retention tag. In my mailbox there are a lots of messages dated the last year (older then 8 months).
So, I have only one retention policy configured with new retention tags, this policy is applied to all mailboxes in company, but mailboxes are full of old messages. Don't understand, why old messages do not moved to Archive. And why OWA shows an old default retention tag (still it doesn't work, because configured to move old messages to Archive after 120 days).
PS. After installing windows updates (and restart of 3 exchange servers) problem was resolved. That's weird.

Pre-formatted partition - error persists "Setup is unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition"
I was trying to install Win7 (or Windows Server 2008) on a pre-formatted NTFS partition with 16K cluster size. (Boot partition was certainly default... 4K clusters).
I found this solution but it did not help me . ... When I set the primary drive as First boot drive in BIOS using boot menu to boot from USB or DVD, This error still persisted...:
http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/windowsdeveloperpreviewgeneral/thread/4f4f7d53-d3c7-4b2a-87f3-40174247d616
Absolutely by a chance (I was desperate... trying everything) I tried to delete and create again the 100MB system-boot partition (which was there from previous installation of Win7 x64) and this helped me !
I considered this was a miracle that I managed to overcome this unintended limit of the Installer !
I hope this can help a lot of people trying to re-install Windows 7 or Vista on a 16K (or other than default) cluster-sized partition! I cannot be the only one who have run into this problem... Has anyone else run into it?

How large is the drive to where you are installing Windows? Why are you looking to use 16K clusters where your Windows OS is being installed? About the only time you would want to use a 16K NTFS cluster size is for a data volume over 30TB.

Looking for Case Studies
It seems that the Microsoft Case Studies area has been converted to Customer Stories, and was trimmed back on content, including what seems to be all articles specifically on App-V.
Does anyone have a copy of the case studies for App-V?

Edit: ...Okay, I found something. The sv-se translation branch of microsoft.com has the Case Studies still intact, and in English. I'm going to archive all of these, and post them to my own website later.

Lync SQL backend connection encrypted?
All,
is the connection between Lync Enterprise Pool and its SQL backend encrypted by default?
If not, is it possible to encrypt this connection?
Many Thanks in Advance,
Hanno98
Reply:
Hello Hanno98!
In short, no, the SQL connection between Lync and SQL Server is not encrypted by default. However, yes, it can be encrypted if you configure it to be with an SSL certificate. Please reference this Technet article for getting started with that: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-US/library/ms189067%28v=SQL.105%29.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396.
I hope this helps get you headed in the right direction!

SSRS Main Report and SubReport works fine when rendering but exported file shows "Error: Subreport could not be shown"
For months I have been working on this report and finally decided to put question in the forums. I have a report that uses subreport and I see an issue "Error: Subreport could not be shown" only when 'Exported'. I tested locally, and even on the SSRS report management the values get displayed without any issues. The issue only comes when I try to export from the report management tool to local machine.
Below are some logs relevant to this issue:

Hi Anand,
According to your description, when exporting the report to the local machine, the subreport cannot work, right?
This error means that Reporting Services cannot find the subreport "InternalWeeklyQuoteCountsSubreport" under corresponding path, please make sure the whole project has been deployed to Report Manager and the subreport existing under "/Report/Internal".
In your scenario, how do you "export your reports from report management tool to local machine"? In our local environment, we have tested exporting a report to excel and MHTML with subreport, the report renders properly.
If possible, please share some more information or images about the issue.

Shrek Li

Hi Shrek Li,
I'm not sure why it's not recognizing the subreport "InternalWeeklyQuoteCountsSubreport" as it's still there in the location where the main report is present "/Report/Internal". Here's an interesting thing, the reports can be previewed and exported completely fine without any issues from bids (Visual Studio 2008 R1)
In the report server, I can preview the report without any issues. Below is the screenshot of it.
In the above screenshot, the "Export" option which is highlighted in blue located on top of the page, when clicked, I can download this report to my local machine and once opened it looks like this:
Thanks,
Anand

Hi Anand,
Sorry for delay.
You use "Go to Report" action in your table and this action cannot be worked when exporting to excel. It is because "Go to Report" is a hyperlink and when clicking it in excel, there is no path to go.

HI Shrek - No worries and thank you very much for your response. Our organization has a very strict policy of not deploying in other environments if its not successful in Dev. After months of investigation I finally decided to take a chance to see if it works in Acc and fortunately it worked. Seems like the Dev machine has some missing or incorrect parameters. I'm in the process of identifying what could they be.
On a thank you note, this forum gained much reputation because of folks like you who are always pro-active and your kind suggestions always play a vital role here at work.

I wonder if with MS's new found attitude to open source projects
they'd consider making it available that way?

Software gets discontinued all of the time. It is simply a fact of the software industry.

It's one thing to discontinue software. It is a something entirely different when a company refuses to let you to continue using the discontinued software. Imagine if when Microsoft discontinued Windows XP, they sent a deactivation signal and all Windows XP machines no longer functioned.
There is nothing about Windows Media Center that is not compatible with Windows 10, except that there is no way to install it because Microsoft doesn't want people using it anymore.
Microsoft's goal was Windows 10 on all machines, but that goal will fail as long as they give finite reasons not to upgrade. It isn't as if I am being stubborn and just want to continue using Media Center. The issue is there is not replacement product in existence. There is no other software, anywhere in the world, which can be used with CableCARD devices. If there were an alternative, I would just switch at this point. But there isn't.

You all need put real blame on Mafia (MPAA, RIAA) and clowns at the FCC after all there one's that are killing of Cable Cards support so your only hope is a 3rdparty apps (NextPVR, SageTV) that only support open copy freely channel for now but there alway hope if SiliconDust manage to pull off with there upcome come software called HDHomeRun DVR .

SiliconDust's developmental software could "possibly" become a replacement, but as it stands now, their software won't even be close to a WMC replacement. It will only work with their own tuners, so all the Ceton tuners I have will be useless, and it only works for watch TV. No movie library, to video, no music, nada.
I do blame the telecom companies for the slow demise of cablecards, as well as the end of ClearQAM, but I blame Microsoft more because they made the blatant decision not to ALLOW a perfectly functioning piece of software to be installed. I don't care if they don't improve it anymore or leave it how it is. Just let me use it without having to stay on an archaic OS. Simple as that.
This thread doesn't matter. Microsoft has made up its mind and I've made up mine. No WMC, no Windows 10. Simple as that. I'm not throwing away thousands of dollars in investments I've purchased. And I'm not using awful cable company cable boxes.

I have added my requests for WMC to the Windows Feedback tool. I have emailed anyone I can think of (including my TAM at MS). I have done all I can do to get WMC back in Windows 10. At some point along the way I gave up and backed the kickstarter by SiliconDust.
I already own the SiliconDust Prime so backing them was kind of a no-brainer for me. Their products are great I am a very happy SiliconDust customer and I am very excited to see their DVR Software.
You should check it out on their forums, it is making excellent progress. I am truly disappointed in MS for dropping WMC, but they announced it long ago - I was just hoping they would give-in and give it back.
The SiliconDust software will have a $30.00 annual guide data charge. If I were you and I had sunk thousands into the cable card setup (which I did) I would just drop another couple hundred and make the switch away from WMC and then you can get your Windows 10 while it's free.
Once you factor in the MS OS cost later, you would save money, potentially.
Good Luck!

That ture there no movie library, to video, no music, nada other stuff there rigth now so who know after all it only in beta rigth now and just all like all other DVR that have start out just only the TV part and later on add all other stuff but there also hope with add-on tools like Plex or Emby they should be enter face with there software and take care of that problem it just matter of time it done in one day you know.
And if had look you see Ceton hasn't done jack where are they???? after all they close there user forum so not been one word from them in 2 years, Yes I unstand but a lot of it was MS own doing to why it failed after all they start out as OEM only with XPMCE and Vista didn't helps matter as it fell flat on face but by the time Windows 7 got out it was all ready to late even us SageTV user but at learst SageTV still live as Google Fiber and will be making a come back but this time as open source. I would count on MCE EPG last much longer at most maybe 4/5 years.
That would be broadcast content providers like amc, hbo, abc, etc, etc there one's that set boardcast flags not cable companies.

Hi Aaron, sorry you aren't getting joy.
I ran sfc /scannow from an elevated command prompt. Deleted the entire contents of SoftwareDistribution.
SFC always completes with a few errors - that's "normal".
Then I rebooted before initiating Windows Update again.. Worked for me.
I think I also turned off my antivirus (Avast 2015 Free).
People run the DISM tool BEFORE running SFC..
From elevated cmd prompt: DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
Then do SFC /scannow from elevated.
Good luck! /jim

I have exactly the same signatures: the "corrupted" file is the same, it has the same "incorrect" hash and it expectts also the same hash for an original that is not there.
However I have it only in the 1st file you list here, the other files for Powershell packages are not affected on my system.
Given I get exactly the same numeric signature as you, this is enough to prove that this does not come from any I/O error on our system: the files were already inconsistant in the distribution we were given to download !
Really, it is the source of build 10240 that mixed versions and was downloaded (by Windows Update) using a catalog file not matching the actual file downloaded.
Microsoft really is not able to stabilize a version on its server and to make them in sync before making them accessible. As it pushes frequent builds there, and does not even test them with normal installation to see that the content of MS servers are really corrupted and do not actually contain the version tested internally, we get such random corruption of out component stores, and they are a nightmare to repair: the only way is to reinstall, but this is the 5th time I reinstall completely and that I see that some files were installed using a mix of versions because Microsoft constantly pushes new files or edits them so that they no longer match the published signatures in the catalog. I really suspect a severe bug in the way these builds are complied and published (probably too early before they are actually tested in the internal rings, or even before the building process has fully finished the integration of the deplyable images)
This is really intrigating for the anounced deployemnt to millions people: Microsoft really builds incorrect versions and does not stabilize them on servers (and it is very likely that this is caused by frontal cache servers storing old versions, or incompletely terminated versions): this is likely architectural in the Microsoft server farms or one of its worldwide caching proxies in its CDN.
Hint: I'm located in France, it's possible that caches for France in that CDN are simply not correctly synchronized. Last week I already detected that time servers from Microsoft (as seen from France) were desynchronized by exactly 24 hours, and this problem was persistant for nearly two days around July 12-13 !
Microsoft should really check its front cache
s and the state of CDN POPs for worldwide distribution and if they are all correctly set to the correct date and time. Problems of synchronization and incorrect package signatures are now present since the deployement of build 10158 and are still there with build 10240.

The CheckSUR catalogs are corrupted but cannot be repaired as it references packages that are nowhere with these exact names in online catalogs MS servers. Those packages are not even part of a known KB number. They should not have been distributed to us. If the CDN servers are correctly setup, some of them are open to security holes and under attack and contain modiofied packages trying to modify the distribution of Windows.
Not everyone is affected the same way depending on which server they rich and their location in the world. But here those used from France are definitely containing wrong data !

SCSM CMDB Capacity Reporting - Storage Reporting
Obtaining local disk capacity report from SCSM CMDB. These reports will help you understand storage allocations as it's presented to the server. Understanding wasted resources can help you reduce and better calculate cost of moving to public cloud.
Assumptions before you develop your report:
- SCOM Environment is healthy and deployed as part of your build process. This will provide full view of your storage across the enterprise.
- Management Packs from SCOM have enabled monitoring of storage. SCOM admin should take this task and provide the MP's to import into SCSM.
- Run this on test.
- Have a capacity management process! If you don't have capacity management process to address unused space, this information will not be of value. A process should be addressing unused space with application owner and determining usage over time quarterly, yearly etc..

Please can ther be some ORGANIZATION on the Add A Feature section of Settings!!
If I want to find an optional feature - such as to reinstall the Insider Hub app that keeps getting kicked off my start menu tiles, I have to trawl through hundreds of Language input features. Can't there be subheadings such as
Language - Typing
Language - fonts
Language - Cortana
Language - Handwriting
Utilities - Graphics
Demos - Retail
- to stop looking for features being such a chore?

Use variable from within SRSS Dataset Query
Hi
I try to create a report within reporting services where i can use a variable in the dataset query.
I have used in the past variables to filter the result (Where @var = ...) but this time i want to use it in the dataset query itself.
See below the select statement,I would like to replace _RES_COLL_EPT0007F by a variable.
SELECT
v_R_User.User_Name0,_RES_COLL_EPT0007F.Name,v_R_User.sn0,v_R_User.givenName0,v_R_User.Mail0,v_R_User.department0,v_R_User.physicalDeliveryOfficeNam0,_RES_COLL_EPT0007F.Name
FROM
v_R_UserRightJOIN_RES_COLL_EPT0007FONv_R_User.Name0=_RES_COLL_EPT0007F.NameORDERBYv_R_User.sn0
Is this supported or is there a workaround ?
thanks in advance
bruno
Reply:
You cannot use a variable as a table name.
In order to do this, you need to use dynamic SQL:
DECLARE @string NVARCHAR(MAX) DECLARE @myVar NVARCHAR(MAX) SET @myVar = 'myTableName' SET @string = 'SELECT u.User_Name0, rc.Name, u.sn0, u.givenName0, u.Mail0, u.department0, u.physicalDeliveryOfficeNam0, rc.Name FROM v_R_User u INNER JOIN '+@myVar+' rc ON u.Name0 = rc.Name ORDER BY u.sn0' EXEC sp_executeSQL @string

Hi bpro,
The best solution is to write a store proc and pass the table name as parameter. Please refer below screenshots

Thanks for the feedback, it seems to work fine,
However I am afraid I can't add stored procedures directly to the DB of my client.
Is it possible to keep the stored procedure within the report itself ?

Hi bpro,
There is no option of embedding the stored proc within the report.
