Cant share root disk
Configuration
Microsoft 2008 Server with a drive presented from an EMC array. Trying to share the disk that is presented to the sever at the Disk level and it is grayed out. If I go to the folder level on that disk, it will let me share the folder.
Is this a limitation? Is there some way around it?

Root Certificate Disappers from store
"The server you are connecting to is using a security certificate that cannot be verified. A certificate chain processed, but terminated in a root certificate which is not trusted by the trust provider."
Then if I use certmgr.msc to look at the trusted root certification authorities store, the certificate I previously installed is no longer there. I can re-install it, but it always disappears eventually.
I'm running Windows Vista with service pack 1 and have had this problem on multiple computers with this setup.
Thanks,
John Wilkinson

If so there may be implmented restrictions on ppl puting their own certs into the store locally.

Reply:
This is on a machine at my work (Dartmouth college), and another at my house. The certificate is a Dartmouth root certificate from their certification authority. So I don't think they would issue a root certificate and then prevent users from installing it. I will contact the admin of the certification authority to ask, but I don't remember having these issues before I upgraded to Vista.

Reply:
But anyways, as long as you'r machine is not a member of a domain (not controlling what you put into you'r local certificate store). I have not had any problems adding 3.party root certificates to my home computer (on Vista).

Well there are like a hundred forums on this website without an easy to understand organization or hierarchy, and I don't have time to figure out which one is the correct one for a simple issue like this that Windows Vista should be able to handle without a problem. The description for this forum included the words certificate and SSL so I gave it a shot.
Along with the crippled WebDAV support in Vista, I am pretty pissed I "upgraded", but thanks for trying to help.

the problem
what the problem is is the message that you are getting means that the mbr (master boot record) is gone, there are ways to get it back, if you have another rig you can google it. or reinstall the os.

Clinic 6262AE Bugs
"You want to deplot a desktop application that includes a workflow..."
The correct ansewr is "Install the .NET Framework 3.5 on the Windows XP Computers".
When the correct answer is selected, it pops up a box with the header of "Correct" with the following text:
"That is not correct. The correct response is: Install the .NET Framework 3.5 on the Windows XP computers."
Might want to square that one away :)
Another issue I found with the horrible "Wheel View" is that when you select "Text View" then go to the next item, it defaults to "Text View" but it still shows the "Wheel View" [but the "Text View" icon is highlighted]. You have to select "Wheel View" and THEN "Text View" to get it to come back to text view.
I wonder, is this the right way to go about reporting the issues with this clinic?
"Introduction to Windows Workflow Foundation\The Windows Workflow Foundation Architecture" section:
"Overview of the Windows Workflow Foundation Architecture" says, under "Activities", "Windows Workflow Foundation provides a number of activities that you can use to send e-mail, handle errors, run code, or execute other tasks."
Then go to the little tile mini-game ["Identify Components of the Windows Workflow Foundation"], where you are supposed to make each row or column into a true statement. Column 0, Row 1 [or 1,2 for non-zero based people] defaults to "Windows Workflow Foundation DOES NOT include e-mail activities". Well, this is obviously an untrue statement [since it just said that it DOES have email activities just 2 seconds ago]. Change it to "Windows Workflow Foundation DOES include e-mail activities". Click the thing to validate the row... its invalid? So the correct answer is "Windows Workflow Foundation DOES NOT include e-mail activities". So... which one is it?
Seriously? Is this like a beta Clinic or something or am I wrong...I wouldn't mind being wrong :)
I was in the clinic for about an hour when I received "Unauthorized Page Access" error in the viewer windows. I had to close IE and open it again to get it running again.

Bugs:
Configuring Password and Account Policies
Implementing Password and Account Policies
There are at least two TEXT bugs within the section!
"How do I make sure that users cannot reuse the same password until 30 different passwords have be used?" This is impossible! And therefore the answers are wrong!
"Okay, but how do I ensure that users change their passwords every 30 days?" Answer is wrong based on the question asked.
Please fix this forum to allow for screenshots to be attached to messages, I have found many bugs in the e-learning content but I just will not post them due to the difficulty in using these forums!

The suggestion of added screenshots to the forums is something our team is already aware of and is being considered for a future release of the forums.
I'll also work with the team to see if there is an easier way for customers to submit content problems with courses and let you know.

SCCM R2 RTM
Just to let you know that SCCM R2 has rtm'ed last thursday. I saw the news first on this site:
You can check what's new in R2 here: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc161883.aspx
MS also has an evaluation version of R2 available for download at:
For OS Deployment the new features are:
Operating System Deployment Enhancements. The following enhancements are included in Configuration Manager 2007 R2:
- Unknown computer support—In Configuration Manager 2007 R2, you can deploy operating systems to computers using a PXE service point without first adding the computer to the Configuration Manager database. For more information, see About Unknown Computer Support for Operating System Deployment.
- Multicast deployment—Previously, all operating system deployments used unicast. Multicast can make more efficient use of network bandwidth when deploying large images to several computers at the same time. For more information, see About Multicast for Operating System Deployment.
- Running command lines in task sequences with credentials other than the local system account.

Problems after FPSE installed on SPS2003 server (also .net 2.0)
I have installd FPSE on a W2003/IIS/SPPS server. I created a webservice in
it's own pool web running .net2.0
I get an error "The version of Windows SharePoint Services running on the
server is more recent than the version of FrontPage you are using."
Any ideas how to get around this?
The web service runs fine... SPPS is fine... just can't deploy from a
remote server

Prevent access to the Quicklaunchbar
Hello out there!
I hope you are able to help me with my little problem.
I'm using windows steadystate to restrict the rights of machine-operators.
Ok, there's no problem so far, all is working fine BUT the customer wants me
to have the quicklaunchbar enabled to access two file-links.
The problem i have is, i'm not able to restrict the access to these file-links like "Prevent right-click in the Start Menu" and so on. They should be able to use these links, but nothing else.
Reply:
Hi, do you mean those users cannot add links to quick launch bar with the restriction turned on in Windows SteadyState?

"The settings saved on this computer for the network do not match the requirements of the network".
My desktop which is running XP got hit by lightening. I reinstalled the original OS and then installed XP. Everything was working fine. My laptop, which was not hit by lightening, is running Vista. I have a Belkin WIreless G Router on the desktop. Laptop is wireless and was having no problems. Had excellant connectivity. Went in to make my computers secure or add a guest so that a friend could use my wireless and all of a sudden my lap top started showing the following error in the "connect to a network" dialog box: "The settings saved on this computer for the network do not match the requirements of the network". I went in on the lap top and made sure the settings were correct and retyped the WEP to make sure. I also took my computer and used another Wi-Fi, so I know that there is nothing wrong with the laptop itself. I have tried setting up a new network with no luck. On the desktop when I try to setup a new newtwork I get an error. It follows: "An error occured during configuration of the network on this computer. You can configure the network manually or you can run the wizard again with different settings." Please help....somebody.

Hi,
Firstly, let's confirm the following points:
1. Do you use DHCP to obtain IP addresses? Or use static IP directly?
2.Please try disabling encryption on the router to see if this is an encryption issue.
3.Please check your Network Connection properties and compare them to the settings on the working computer.
4.Please try disabling ICF to test this issue.
5.If possible, could you please try to reset router to test this issue?
Thanks.

vista business and server 2003 roaming profiles
i have about 3 notebooks running windows vista sp1. The server was rebooted on the 20 or 22nd. Since then the vista notebooks could not load or locate the roaming profiles. I get the usual "cannot load roaming profile, using temporary profile, contact your administrator." i tried to just use a local profile and use folder redirection to move my doc's, etc but vista says an error occured creating a local profile. v
Has anyone else seen this before?
Could a recent update cause this?
Thanks

Protect Windows System Partition AND let custom applications' security updates persist (idea)
how about the following strategy to prevent SteadyState from discarding automatic updates of custom applications (with "Windows Disk Protection" On at Level "Remove All Changes at Restart"):
a) Install custom applications to a separate (unprotected) partition (different from the protected system partition)
b) Install custom applications under an account with Permanent User Profile on an (unprotected) Separate Partition
c) Creating Permanent User Profiles for All Accounts by changing the default location for all user
accounts during Windows installation as described in the SteadyState handbook
I'd like to experiment with these options.
How would you rate the likelihood, that these strategies (or a combination of them) allow persistent automatic security updates of custom applications which cannot be scheduled by SteadyState?
What are possible disadvantages when doing so?
I guess you can give no guarantees, but maybe you can recommend one of the above options (a/b/c)or a combination of two of them for my experiments. Or you can advise against one or more options for some reason...
Looking forward to your comments.
Thanks
Sina

WINDOWS XP SERVICE PACK 3 -BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH
After updating Windows XP to SP3 on one of my machines, I started getting BSODs within 24 hours. I have uninstalled SP3, and machine is running OK, thus far. Of course the issue isn't SP3, it is the compatibility with other drivers and software that are the issue . Until such time as Microsoft provides a scan tool to detect what items are not compatible with SP3, I will not be reinstalling SP3.
